My Taekook timeline thoughts

I'mma try this. Let me preface by saying I'm baby Army, coming up to a year. I pick stuff up fast and I have ADHD so I hyperfixate and deep dive but there's definitely stuff I don't know/am still trying to figure out. I ALSO got exposed to a lot of rumour and speculation without much foundation early on so I'm trying to remove that from my thinking.

2013-2014

Tae is instrumental in bringing Jungkook out of himself. They're CLEARLY close. Initial puppy love vibes.

2014-2015

This always feels to me that the attraction is strongest/most obvious on Jungkook's side. I don't think it's one-sided but Jungkook wears his heart in his EYES and Taehyung finds it easier to centre himself, perhaps. 2015-2017

Jungkook is what, 18-20 at this point, Taehyung 20-22? (my maths is appalling. I think that's right) and they seem to have exactly the kind of relationship that two young guys figuring themselves out have ie; DRAMATIC.

Sweet and clingy and lots of eyes and touching. Doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility that kissing/whatever might have occurred. They're young and besotted. But it also seems to be a time of some pretty intense down moments like whatever the heck happened around Tokyo.

If you think about the Inkigayo video where JK seems a little bit stroppy with Tae for not being there sooner - well, devolve his emotional maturity by 6 or 7 years. I know people say JK doesn't like when he's not getting attention and it's supported by some clips, I feel. Like the slight drama with Bogum. I can imagine this combined with scary queer feelings combined with *SPECULATION INCOMING* being seperated on camera*, against their natural instinct to be close, would create a pressure cooker of Feels which would only ever come out in drama.

Also: Stigma is released in this time, Namjoon says Tae has his own story about it. I have wondered if Stigma might have been related to HYYH but I don't think the storyline bled into the songs, did they? Please correct me if I'm wrong there.

*side note: Dispatch threat to reveal a same sex couple then Dispatch suddenly getting BTS exclusives is an intriguing theory but I think even if it's nonsense or about a different group, I imagine it would create nervous ripples throughout various agencies? Maybe seperating Taekook was precaution? I don't know. Just a thought.

2018

It's well known JK and Tae were having some of their worst times during 2018 and disbandment talks. What intrigues me is that Jin says JK isolated himself and didn't talk to the members.

But Yoongi sends Tae and JK the supportive text message and Tae says he and JK read the messages together and cried. JK is isolated and not talking to other members but he's with Tae at this point? Interesting.

(I don't know if anyone else gets this but there seems to be a kind of implied "Well except V" in a lot of these stories. JK in his 2023 Sirius interview "I didn't really get a chance to see the members this year." and yet he's with Tae on a number of confirmed occasions and maybe other unconfirmed? Almost like Tae is aside from the collective members when it comes to JK.)

I feel like intentions might have been set here and some kind of commitment made, though I'm not sure it's a "together" commitment. Just an undetermined milestone of things getting much heavier than they were. An admission, a mutual understanding, a commitment to stop the drama... I don't know.

2019-2021

Golden Disk Awards 2020. Grammys 2020. Atomix. That's all. :)

Oh I suppose we have BTS: ITS1 filmed in 2020 and as we all know, Tae and JK have been awkward for a while and the only way Jungkook wants to be near Tae is if Jimin tricks him into going. 🙄

They just seem real sweet and close these years. No particular dramas between the two of them are cropping up for me, correct me if I'm wrong. JK has his tattooist nonsense which just feels like a silly storm in a dumb teacup. Still being seperated and forced to pretend they barely like each other in lives but that's just Bighit Streisand Effecting themselves. 😇

If not 2018 then something in here feels like it might have been the actual commitment.

2022 onwards

Demonstrable time spent together. Confirmed private time where JK hangs out with Tae's friends. Unconfirmed time too. WHATEVER WAS IN THE WATER FOR DREAM PREMIERE. Obviously Jennie weirdness in late '22, early '23 but that feels so much like a press stunt that I just J-Hope side eye it.

I once looked up if there was any telltale signs of fanservice when I was newborn army and so confused. A lot of the response was just "if it looks gay, it's fanservice." LOL but one person replied, paraphrased, "Disregard stages, photoshoots, some of the promotional lives, anything under direct agency management. Consider whether they actually interact privately where nobody is." and I feel like that kind of sums up Taekook since 2022 when BTS are on hiatus and they're still in each other's orbit.

2023

If they're not a couple, they're in love and don't know it. That's a joke. Don't come for me.

Lets see what 2024 onwards brings!

I've just been watching in the soop and I just finished the episode with Taekook's awkward date night. To this day I still don't understand it. The common explanations and reasons by taekookers I've seen for it just don't really make sense to me. What are the chances they had indeed drifted apart at that time? Why was it necessary to make a big deal out of their relationship supposedly not being as close? It seems completely uneeded and just drew more attention to them. They where shown being close and spending time with each other in the episodes prior to the date anyway. That's why I wonder if there's truth to it.

To this question I would say, go watch all the taekook content from between Sept 2019 and June 2020 (when SOOP was filmed) and you see consistent content that would suggest that they are at least friendly and close.

The only time there was perhaps a distance was when JK had to self-isolate over a covid test.

You have to understand that BigHit up until this point had side-lined Taekook through cuts and edits. I have speculated that when the new contract came into effect there was an agreement to relax this side-lining.

So BH had to do something to explain the previous 3 years. Out of all the chats in Soop, Taekook's was clearly the most "staged". Now I do think some of the conversations were really, but it's clear something is off.

Most of the misdirection does not come from Taekook, but from BH editors adding commentary subtitles to push a narrative that they had not been close since they were trainees.

Why wasn't Tae given a to camera soap box like JK was

To me they used Tae's clear depression, where it's likely that symbolic distance occurs not a literal one. Long term couples sometimes experience periods where they can't communicate with each other etc. I feel this is what Taekook were talking about, but BH spun it make it seem like an actual distance between them occurred.

What is most interesting about SOOP 1 is that after this episode they are times when I feel like I'm watching a couple on holiday with 5 friends.

Tae practiced his English while Jk encouraged and helped him since he had trouble with it. Jk even knew Tae’s speech and Tae kept repeating after him:

I have never seen JK more snapier with anyone than he is with Taehyung. He is critical of Taehyung's work, doesn't shy away from raising his voice, hits him when Taehyung makes mistake, become a brat, ignore him, rolls his eyes, demand things from him, take him for granted, you name any bratty behaviour he might have done that with Taehyung. Other members see parts of these behaviours towards them, not a whole picture. Then you see him pouting when he can't get close to Taehyung, doesn't leave an opportunity not to compliment him, supports and encourages Taehyung and his work, walking dictionary of Taehyung's whereabouts, indulges Taehyung and his demands, follows him through his eyes, shares the most awesome telepathic connect, have star struck eyes looking at his bae, shows his bias. You see all these extreme behaviour is for Taehyung, not in bits and pieces but as a full package. You can be disrespectful towards your hyungs if you are super close to them. He is a child and a man with Taehyung. This makes me think they are real. Not one part of the spectrum but the whole rainbow.

Do you have your fav moments of JK being a brat with Taehyung and him indulging Kookie in return?

Yes yes yes to Jungkook simultaneously being the freest with both his annoyance and his adoration with Taehyung!  I agree that this is one of the things that really makes the possibility of them being a couple seem likely to me.

At first I wasn’t sure I’d be able to come up with favorite moments for this, but they’re actually popping into my head pretty easily.

I think the most obvious example is the time from a V Live with Taekook, Jin, and Jimin several years ago, when Jimin brings up the fact that Jungkook had scolded Taehyung at rehearsal earlier that day.  It easily could have been a tense moment, but instead, Taehyung was all about it lol, he encouraged Jungkook to talk about it and clearly thought it was funny and kind of cute.

I’ve also noticed and agree that in general he is really critical of Taehyung’s work, like I don’t know if it’s that he feels a sense of connection to him, so he feels at some level like Tae’s work reflects on his own, but there are a lot of examples of him scolding Tae for messing things up, or just holding him to a high standard.  One is during the Dynamite MV shoot when Tae missed the cue for his pose and Jungkook got annoyed with him and smacked his shoulder.

I don’t know if I would say Tae usually indulges him necessarily in those moments, but he does seem to listen to him and try to improve, like when he wasn’t understanding the jacket thing during the rehearsal for their Grammy performance recently.  Jungkook was frustrated and trying to explain, and instead of getting annoyed back, Taehyung just kept trying to understand and do his best.

Peak Jungkook-being-a-brat-to-Taehyung behavior is, I think, the 2019 to 2020 New Year’s V Live.  I don’t know what was going on there, but Jungkook was pouting when Taehyung talked about going on a healing trip by himself, snapping at Tae to tell him what he wanted to say wasn’t important -- and yet Taehyung looked so fond through the whole thing.  When Jungkook essentially told him to shut up (not that aggressively, obviously, but still, it was noticeably snippy), he just did it, and yet continued to make heart eyes at Jungkook through the whole live.

Bonus: An example of the opposite would be the post-AMAs group V Live when Jungkook was clearly feeling a bit on edge after the way everything had happened.  He basically fully yelled at Yoongi to stop talking over him, but when Tae did the same thing two seconds later, he just shut right up and listened to him talk lol.

Like you said, he’s brattier with Taehyung, but he’s also sweeter and more indulgent.  I think the way I’ve described it before is that his sharp edges are sharper with Taehyung, but his softer bits are that much softer too, and to me, it definitely seems like further evidence that they’re extremely close, because we’re the fullest versions of ourselves with the people who know us best and love us most.

haha i won't write you my full essay because i know it will make a lot of people angry... i can tell you the abbreviated version. i became a baby army in early 2019, right before bwl and i discovered them through youtube. i tried hard not to ship because i've been around kpop for years and i know what shipping is and how manipulative those analysis videos etc can be. anyway, somehow i was still dragged into it because youtube algorithms and what not, and also i still did read some of what other fans said about their relationships. anyway i looked into them for a few months trying to see if there was something there through original content and some compilation videos. lets just say i don't know why some of the "moments" they choose for taekook are even considered taekook moments when some of them actually prove the complete opposite. anyway the more i watch, the more i realise they're not it. and yes i do have specific incidences that i can list but i won't for the sake of both of our sanities and your ask box. when tae said the "get our of your imagination" in 2019, that was the last straw for me. it was really a fork in the road, either you take it at face value and realise tae doesn't actually like being shipped with jungkook that way. or you do some amazing mental gymnastics. and trust me, my imagination is way better than some of the taekookers and i came up with much better explanations than they have. but again i won't go into details. but for me, reality is reality. you can't really twist it and even if i wish most adamantly for them to be real, i cannot speak it into existence.

interestingly right after that, we got quite a bit of taekook content through muster japan and then grammies 2020 and GDA 2020. didn't really change my mind though. lets just say by the time taekook vlive and in the soop 1 came around, it was more just confirmation of what i've thought for months by then rather than a surprise like it was for a lot of people.

Lol at “ARMYs getting calmer/accepting/not judging”.

I have something to say about your perception of ARMY after spending ~2 years in the fandom but we’ll get to that later. (I’m guessing you’re from Dynamite era, but wouldn’t that make you at least pre-school ARMY by now? How do these terms work?)

I think it’s a bad idea to try to use reactions to Tae’s smoking pics as a gauge for how “ARMYs” behaviors have evolved, because many things about the reveal on Saturday/Sunday/Monday were unique and not comparable to any other previous ‘scandal’ for the boys. My personal opinion is that nothing about ARMYs reaction to those pics was unusual at all - contrary to perhaps popular opinion, the core of the fandom has largely treated BTS members as independent adults who can drink, smoke, fuck, eat/diet within reason, lol.

Here are some things that influenced dominant reactions:

The Grammys: A lot of ARMYs were focused on the Grammys and knew that as this is k-pop, there would be someone who would try to create controversy from any angle. So (1) ARMYs were mostly distracted with the Grammys, (2) they were also prepared to not let anything sour this moment for the boys.

The source: As Tae’s pics were obviously taken by a sassaeng, it was easy to discourage spreading it or giving it much attention on that basis alone.

Tae’s smoking is old news: A lot of people in the fandom have known for a long time that Tae vapes and smokes. It’s been all over Korean forums for years, and on the international side, well…

Both photos showing Tae’s vape pens are from 2019 and the first time I saw a mention of him smoking an actual cigarette was in 2020. So this is something a lot of ARMYs knew but didn’t think was a big deal and either downplayed or ignored.

Solo stans were occupied, but opposing fandoms were not: I’m not sure if you notice, but the people who typically freak out about controversies for BTS members are usually from other fandoms or multis/mantis with overlaps with BTS solo stans. This is something that happened in 2019 with jikook’s 'controversies’ with women (Jimin in the Paris pub and Jungkook casually backhugging a woman). It was Exols, blinks, and a few multis that were moots with Tae akgaes / solo stans that were in GCs that started the hashtags and created all the noise. Also in late 2021 with Tae’s 'controversy’ of visiting a museum where a woman he knows happened to be present, it was jikook akgaes / solo stans and shippers that spread those photos along with hate and sensationalist language. And with Jimin’s 'controversy’, also in late 2021, of another woman who happened to be in LA while the boys were there, this happened literally two weeks after Jimin akgaes had stirred up controversy for Tae (the museum photos), so it was no surprise when ARMYs noticed it was mostly Tae akgaes and taekook shippers spreading the rumors for Jimin. In every case, people from other fandoms and multis were at the center of that mess. The very same thing happened with Tae’s smoking pics, except in this case, solo stans were also largely pre-occupied with the Grammys. They were too busy screenshotting 'locals’ praising their idols and otherwise just drumming up hype. The people who wanted to create a scandal out of those pics were obvious and on Sunday you could search up “Tae smoking” on twitter and see tweets from blinks with 30K likes and everyone from Onces to Stays to Shawols to NCTzens in the quotes hyping it up lmao. It would’ve gained traction if solo stans weren’t also busy, but they were, so by Monday ARMYs had gotten some of the primary accounts suspended.

Now, about solo stans, these are the people who are extremely sensitive to the perception of their preferred idol. These are the people now trying to say the pics are edited, saying that Tae doesn’t and can’t possibly smoke, and otherwise reaching all the way past Timbuktu to preserve his 'pure’ image. A lot of ARMYs, by contrast, were reminding people (from other fandoms who thought there was a scandal here) that Taehyung is a 26 year old man in a country where roughly 40% of men smoke. It’s primarily solos and diet solos who are committed to keeping the 'idol images’ for their faves, though this particular scandal is kinda weird because a lot of idols are known smokers.

One other factor I can’t ignore is the subject: Tae - I’m under no illusions that if it was Jungkook or Jimin caught smoking, it would have been a bigger deal. Taehyung has the most solo stans out of all the members, so this also controls for the sort of negative news that gains traction for him, but also the sort that gains traction for members considered to be his competition by his solos i.e. Jimin and Jungkook.

There are more diet solo stans who are masquerading as ARMYs, than the fandom is willing to admit (to its own detriment) and I think Taehyung in particular has a lot of fans like this. Anyone going 'I hate company stans’ or is a hardcore Taekook shipper, is someone I’d put in that category.

I’d say BTS has been outgrowing their 'idol image’ since 2018 when they started to assert themselves more as artists who cannot be pigeonholed into the k-pop category, and they've also done this in more subtle ways such as how Jimin first got tattoos that were still considered to be taboo, followed by Jungkook who got a full sleeve of tattoos in the following years. Again, it was solo stans and people from other fandoms who tried to make those things a scandal, but the core of the fandom supported BTS members in all these choices. Jin is practically 30 years old, and (because of the pandemic) BTS members spent the longest time they’ve lived apart for the first time in 2020 and 2021 which allowed them time to personally explore all sorts of things (Jimin and Namjoon’s weverse interviews come to mind), and I’m curious to see if we’ll have more individuality in their new album that’s supposed to signify a 'new era’. A lot of older ARMYs are still the core of the fanbase, are growing up with the band as well, and have generally always treated the boys as people who have agency and can make their own choices.

You mentioned BTS dating and how the fandom could respond to that but that’s a whole can of worms that probably deserves its own post. (Cause I’ve seen some major delulus who really think they have a chance with these guys from the most unexpected parts of the fandom). Yeah the free meal is a given. Using the utilities for free, too (Tae at the virtual golfing). That's all I know about those things, tho... No idea about the money but it doesn't even go to them lolll I mean, it surely comes back around to their pockets, but it's the company who gets these deals and it's the company who gets paid, that money is transferred to Hybe's bank account, not to Jeon Jungkook Kim Taehyung Jung Hoseok's bank accounts. Eventually, a little fraction of it will go to their pockets. And it wasn't only the pics, Hobi's video was really good, too. I think I saw Fox news or something like that tweet about it too. I'm also side-eyeing JK's choice of fit btw. He's been wearing balenciaga since 2019 and people have talked about him having a deal the same they were suspicious of Jimin having his Chanel deal, and in this outing Jungkook is the only one wearing a brand so obviously.

I think it would've gotten lots of attention with other BTS members, too, simply because they are BTS. BUT... no everyone in BTS uses instagram the same. Vhopekook are the ones who from the start have used instagram "well". Imagine asking Jimin to post pictures sponsoring something 😭😭😭😭 the man doesn't even sponsor himself. They still got two more weeks left in Vegas, tho. Maybe Jimin and the rest will sponsor other events/hotels/restaurants, but right now it makes sense that it was vhopekook. Taekook were really really highlighted during the Grammys perfomance, too. I don't know if everything is related, but just throwing it out there.

Memories 2019 was jikook fest. I think memories 2020(if we even get one due to covid) will be very tk focused, because they’ve been spending a lot of time together since September, growing close again after their friendship started to grow distance. Idk, I just feel like Jungkook is focusing a lot on Tae recently compared to Jimin, this isn’t me over reacting, there’s so much tk content than usual. I get these kinds of questions a lot, and often when I do, I find I usually do not know how to go about answering it...

These concerns you raise are shipper problems lol and honestly I'm not that kind of shipper? Lmho. I'm more into alt shipping which means I place more value on the quality of Jikook's interactions, as little as those moments may be, than who BigHit decides on as their star ship for a season.

And often when I get into another ship, it's mostly because I am interested in how that ship affects the dynamics of Jikook.

I am curious to know what BigHit does with memories 2020 as well. Mostly because I believe they dumped all their Jikook 'intimate' moments on us in memories 2019 to try and neutralize the alleged brewing scandal revolving around Jikook since Rosebowl and the me too movement that hit the Kpop industry which set of this whole chain reaction with the impromptu vacation and the subsequent Jikook -involved with girls scandal' -allegedly. Bighit don't sue me please. Lol.

But ever since those moments happened, I had a feeling BigHit was moving to normalize Jikook's intimacy to throw sniffers off Jikook's metaphorical queer butts while simultaneously putting a leash around their necks in order to control and prevent any future such occurrence where Jikook's secret could be outed resulting in a potential scandal.

It is why I said I felt BigHit had been moving to mangae Jikook, presenting them as more of a brand than a ship within BTS.

I don't think they would want to go out of their way to specifically highlight Tae kook in memories 2020 simply because they are not trying to cover up any Tae Kook secrets or to normalize Tae kook's intimacy- because Tae kook isn't real. If we see more of Taekook or any other ship in memories it would be because they gave BigHit moments- memorable moments, which is what Memories is about no?

The objective of memories is to showcase moments that BigHit feels is iconic, memorable, beautiful and a reflection of the bond between BTS. That's what memories is.

And the fact they kept highlighting Jikook in Rosebowl should tell you the kinds of moments they consider iconic- JK nibbling Jimin"s ear believe it or not is super Iconic.

I keep saying BigHit bangs on the intimacy of the boys. Which means very often they are where the intimacy is. If Jikook is giving them beautiful iconic moments they can cash they will serve us Jikook. If Taekook, VMin, Sope, or Namjin does that too they will serve us them- it's business nothing personal really.

So it's not a question of whether they are showcasing Taekook over Jikook or Jikook over any other ship.

BigHit values the quality of the interactions between these boys which is why they invest so much in it and go through so much trouble to produce content like Soop or Rookie king which focuses on healing and repairing the boys' bond from time to time.

I mean have you seen Tiny Tan or BT21? Have you seen the level of animated love and connection they generate between these fictional versions of the boys? That's the level of love and closeness they want from the boys in real time for their own marketing agenda.

Jikook is often their go to because their intimacy and bond is not contrived or convoluted or riddled with high tensions and Jikook themselves are more than happy to perform and display their bond and give us iconic moments for the cameras. Listen, Jikook is real in spite of all of these things you mention honestly. Jungkook and Jimin are having bomb sex and doing the gay whether BigHit highlights another ship over them or not, whether come December JK wishes Jin or Tae a happy birthday, whether JK kisses another member's calf or sits on Tae's laps and bounce up and down, and whether Jimin throws himself at RM or not.

I really do not have a problem with the way they both choose to interact with the other members within the group. I just observe those interactions and allow it to inform me on their individual personalities, their state of mind, their emotional maturity levels, whether or not they are growing as individuals, whether or not they are both expressing themselves the way they want to within their dynamic etc. It's their love journey not my fantasy. I support them, I don't ship them.

And I gotta ask, what is it to you if BigHit highlights Taekook in the next DVD? Would that hurt you? Taekook are a part of BTS too and talents within the agency that BigHit have a moral and legal obligation to promote and market just as they promote and market Jikook you know?

I think you should try to understand Tae kook's dynamics for what it is because believe me Tae Kook give better insight into Jikook in the Vminkook's dynamics.

These two episodes were shot sometime during the On era when Jikook were not together together as I've been saying since the onset of my blogs. These episodes are not proof that something is wrong with Jikook now. They just show that something was wrong with Jikook then...

For those of us who don't have twitter, could you briefly explain what's going on with taekook supposedly being sabotaged? I keep hearing about lots of drama going on with them on twitter. It would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Some Korean Brian solo stans created a secret and highly toxic forum on the website DC Inside. There's also a similar Japanese site as well involved.

On this website these stan plotted over several yes to discredit, and debase mostly JK. Mainly spreading rumours. They call JK "That Bastard" or "slut" a lot it seems.

Allegedly, they created and pretended to OT7 accounts that subtly promoted up Brian and not other members, particularly JK. They even posed as Taekookers and JK/V solo stans to so seeds of hate both in that ship and towards Brian.

They try to pit sides othe fandom against each other. With JK side always.

They've spread fake rumours about JK, nd appears to have been involved in creating additional allegations during JK's 2019 dating scandal and the 2020 Itaewon event during Covid, to make it seem was than it actually was.

Secondary to this, they also targeted Tae and more recently Suga.

It's suggested the whole Gurumi plot to spread dating rumour on Tae and Jennie last year came from this group. With the help of HYBE staff who were in the group providing information and photos.

It's rumoured they leaked the smoking photo of Tae at the Grammys.

Some on the site call Tae "Bald", some call Hobi "Lado" which is supposed to be derogatory too.

The plotted are plotting to hamper JK, Tae and Suga's solo releases/tour. Mocked Suga's album sales.

They admit to insulting members on their social media, weverse and on Lives.
