Những mẫu ôtô bán chạy nhất toàn cầu 2020

Ở mỗi quốc gia và vùng lãnh thổ đều có "ông vua" doanh số, trong đó quán quân ở cả Mỹ và Canada đều là Ford F-series.

Theo dữ liệu từ trang Best Selling Cars Blog, trang duy nhất tổng hợp doanh số ôtô tại hơn 175 thị trường trên khắp thế giới, những quán quân thường không gây ngạc nhiên. Nhưng vẫn có một số sản phẩm đặc biệt trong 30 mẫu xe bán chạy nhất tại những thị trường lớn nhất thế giới.

Bảng xếp hạng dưới đây gồm 30 quốc gia và vùng lãnh thổ, xếp theo doanh số của mẫu xe bán chạy nhất trong 2020. Trong đó, Việt Nam đứng thứ 19, với mẫu Toyota Vios bán chạy nhất trong 2020.

1. Mỹ - Ford F-series (787.372 xe)

Mỹ vẫn là thị trường xe mới lớn thứ hai thế giới, với 14,67 triệu xe bán trong 2020. F-series chiếm vị trí đầu bảng tại thị trường nội địa kể từ 1981, tức suốt 39 năm liên tiếp.

So với doanh số 2019, số xe F-series bán được trong 2020 giảm 100.000 chiếc, và mẫu bán tải của Ford cũng phải chia bớt thị phần cho các đối thủ của Toyota và Chevrolet, nhưng vẫn giữ ngôi quán quân.

2. Trung Quốc - Nissan Sylphy (542.725)

Sylphy chiếm vị trí cao nhất ở Trung Quốc, hạ bệ Toyota Corolla, với hơn 540.000 xe bán ra. Dù thấp hơn doanh số của Corolla trong 2019, nhưng Trung Quốc cũng giống nhiều thị trường khác trên thế giới, khi doanh số ôtô mới giảm trong 2020. Thậm chí Corolla còn tụt xuống vị trí thứ tư, sau cả Volkswagen Lavida và Haval H6.

Cụ thể, doanh số ôtô của Trung Quốc trong 2020 giảm 1,9% so với 2019, đạt 20,19 triệu xe bán ra, và vẫn là thị trường lớn nhất thế giới.

3. Ấn Độ - Maruti Suzuki Swift (160.765)

Ấn Độ là thị trường lớn thứ năm thế giới trong 2020, với tổng cộng 2,43 triệu xe bán ra. Hãng nội địa Maruti chiếm một "lát bánh" lớn với thị phần bằng đúng một nửa số xe mới bán ra, trong đó mẫu Swift thành công nhất.

Doanh số trên của Maruti trong 2020 thực tế giảm nhẹ so với 2019, nhưng bối cảnh toàn thị trường cũng giảm 19,1% so với cùng kỳ năm trước.

4. Thái Lan - Isuzuk D-Max (160.328)

Toyota giữ vững vị thế ở thị trường Thái Lan, với 30,8% thị phần. Nhưng mẫu xe lắp ráp tại chính quốc gia này, Isuzu D-Max mới là xe bán chạy nhất và chiếm 20% số xe đăng ký trong 2020. Vị trí thứ hai thuộc về Toyota Hilux, với 16,4%.

Tổng doanh số ở Thái Lan giảm 21,4% trong 2020, với 792.146 xe bán ra. Tuy nhiên, từ cuối 2020, đà tăng đang trở lại và dự báo tiếp tục trong 2021.

5. Nhật Bản - Toyota Yaris (151.766)

Trong 2020, gần 4,6 triệu xe mới bán tại Nhật Bản, giảm 11,5% so với 2019. Toyota chứng tỏ vị thế khi hạn chế mức giảm ở 6%, trong khi đối thủ Honda giảm 14,3%.

Yaris cũng làm rất tốt với vị trí quán quân doanh số, hạ bệ Honda N-Box. Điều này cũng khiến Honda trượt xuống vị trí thứ ba, sau Suzuki, ngay tại thị trường nội địa.

6. Hàn Quốc - Hyundai Grandeur (145.463)

Hàn Quốc là một trong số ít thị trường tận hưởng mức tăng doanh số xe mới trong 2020. Tổng cộng gần 1,9 triệu xe bán ra.

Doanh số tốt nhất thuộc về Grandeur và sản phẩm này giúp Hyundai giữ vững ngôi vương ở thị trường nội địa, dù doanh số của hãng giảm 1,1%. Kia tăng 6,3% và đứng vị trí thứ hai, trong khi Genesis - cũng thuộc Hyundai - tăng 5,8% và chiếm số 3.

7. Đức - Volkswagen Golf (136.324)

Golf không chỉ chiếm đỉnh bảng doanh số trong 2020 mà còn giúp Volkswagen lập kỷ lục với tổng số 2,92 xe bán ra. Hãng Đức còn có hai sản phẩm khác trong Top 3, là Passat và Tiguan.

Passat tăng thị phần, với 2,7% tại Đức. Trong khi đó, Tiguan đang bị chính một sản phẩm khác cùng nhà, mẫu xe điện I.D. 3 đe dọa vị trí, khi đã bị vượt mặt trong tháng 12/2020.

8. Brazil - Chevrolet Onix (135.351)

Thị trường Brazil bán được tổng cộng 1,95 triệu xe mới trong 2020 và Chevrolet Onix là xe được mua nhiều nhất. Vị trí này của Onix không thay đổi từ 2014 dù doanh số trong 2020 giảm 26,6%.

9. Canada - Ford F-series (128.649)

Thị trường xe mới ở Canada giảm 19,7% trong 2020 so với 2019, nhưng không ngăn được Ford, General Motors (GM), Toyota, Hyundai-Kia tăng thị phần. Đây cũng là bộ tứ bán được nhiều xe nhất Canada.

Không chỉ ở Mỹ, Ford F-series chứng tỏ sự thu hút đối với khách hàng ở Canada, với 26 năm liên tiếp giữ ngôi quán quân.

10. Nga - Lada Granta (126.112)

Lada giảm doanh số 21,5% tại thị trường nội địa trong 2020, cũng giống phần lớn các đối thủ. Toàn thị trường ở quốc gia Đông Âu bán được gần 1,6 triệu xe trong 2020 và tiếp tục đà giảm kể từ 2017.

Một trong số ít hãng xe tăng trưởng ở Nga là Skoda, cùng một số hãng xe Trung Quốc, như Haval, Geely và Chery. Tuy nhiên, những hãng xe bán được nhiều sau Lada là Kia và Hyundai.

Toyota Corolla Hatchback et Spyker Laviolette

Au départ, je l’avoue, je n’ai jamais été un grand fan de la Toyota Corolla. Non pas que le véhicule ne soit pas fiable ou confortable ou économique. C’est que, tout simplement comme je l’ai vécu dans le passé, la Corolla est, à mes yeux, à l’industrie automobile actuelle, aussi excitante que la Ford Tempo-MercuryTopaz pouvait l’être aux années quatre-vingt. D’ailleurs, je ne me souviens pas d’avoir conduit une Tempo de presse au cours de ma carrière autre qu’un modèle V6 qui m’avait été confié pour aller au concours annuel de l’AJAC il y a belle lurette de cela. Ma propre mère possédait une Tempo et je ne me souviens pas de l’avoir conduite, si je l’ai déjà fait.

En vérité, cette année, j’aurais aimé évaluer la version Hybride de la Corolla par curiosité technique. C’est un peu par accident que je me suis donc retrouvé avec la Corolla Hatchback (à hayon) dont il est question dans ce reportage. Cette fois, au moins, la voiture m’a plu dès le premier coup d’œil. Car il faut l’avouer, la Corolla Hatchback est très jolie ! Et ce n’est seulement moi qui le dit. Plusieurs observateurs que j’ai rencontrés en ont eu la même opinion!

Incidemment, malgré la grande ressemblance avec la Scion/Corolla iM de 2019, cette nouvelle Corolla est…nouvelle à tous les points de vue. Plus longue, plus large avec un intérieur plus vaste et un tableau de bord redessiné que la iM, elle possède un moteur plus puissant, plus économique (selon Toyota) et surtout, elle repose sur la plus récente architecture TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) du constructeur.

Comme d’habitude, je vous laisse juger de vous-même l’esthétique de cette voiture. Je vous fais remarquer que la version qui m’a été confiée affichait l’option Nightshade reconnaissable aux ornementations et jantes peintes en noir. Cette option inclut également divers accessoires dont il sera question plus loin.

Autre remarque encourageante, l’intérieur de cette auto compacte est agréable à l’œil, lui aussi! Au départ, malgré un design quand même conventionnel, le tableau de bord est bien dessiné et ses commandes sont bien disposées sauf celles de la radio que j’ai souvent confondues avec celles du chauffage. Mais je suis persuadé qu’après un certain usage, on réussit à les distinguer par instinct. L’écran de la caméra de marche arrière est bien en évidence sur la planche de bord mais n’y cherchez pas le système de navigation. Pour profiter d’un tel accessoire, il faut brancher à cette Toyota son téléphone intelligent (la version Nightshade vient avec Apple CarPlay et Android Auto). Le volant tient bien en main et surtout, il n’est pas surchargé de commandes.

Les sièges avant sont bien mais les places arrière sont relativement serrées. Pas de problème pour les enfants mais plus difficile pour les adultes! Le coffre, par contre, est très petit. Ça irait pour deux passagers mais qu’avec de petites valises ou sacs souples! En soulevant le panneau du plancher, on y découvre un pneu de secours, petit mais encombrant. Si Toyota fait disparaître ce pneu et les accessoires du cric, on y récupérera cet espace. Mais il faudra alors remplacer les pneus par des «Run Flat». Et ce n’est pas nécessairement ce que l’on voudrait pour le confort.

En ce qui a trait à la mécanique, ma Corolla Nightshade était mue par le quatre cylindres de 2,0 litres de 169 chevaux de Toyota combiné à une boîte auto à variation continue (CVT) qui transmettait la puissance aux roues avant (pas de traction intégrale, ici). Le reste est plutôt conventionnel encore une fois avec une direction assistée électrique, des freins à disque aux quatre roues (avec le frein de stationnement électrique automatique), des suspensions avant à jambes MacPherson et des tiges multiples à l’arrière. Notons toutefois l’usage de pneus Dunlop Sport à taille basse plus performants.

Sur la route

Si mes premières impressions furent positives, celles de conduite furent un peu plus modestes. La Corolla Hatchback affiche un look relativement sportif qui devrait plaire à une clientèle plus jeune. Il ne reste plus à Toyota qu’à en créer une véritable version «sportive». Le moteur de 2,0 litres à l’aise dans cette caisse mais j’aurais voulu un peu plus. Il peut permettre des accélérations de 0 à 100 km/h autour des neuf secondes. Toutefois, pour vraiment en profiter, une boîte manuelle (disponible) serait plus appropriée (je sais, la Corolla est plus populaire avec l’automatique mais…). Néanmoins, la CVT qui équipait ma voiture d’essai pouvait se manier manuellement tant par le levier central que par les palettes au volant. Mais là encore…

La conduite régulière de cette Toyota devrait plaire aux conducteurs plus sages quoique la visibilité arrière ne soit pas toujours facile vu l’angle du toit. Mais si on cherche à tirer plus de performance de cette auto, on notera que la direction est un peu lente et qu’elle ne transmet pas beaucoup les sensations de la route. Toutefois, les pneus Dunlop mentionnés plus haut peuvent venir en aide à une conduite plus «sportive». Et peut-être un échappement légèrement plus «audible»?

La Corolla Hatchback doit se mesurer à une concurrence plutôt vive, surtout au Québec où ce genre d’auto est toujours populaire. Parmi les autos auxquelles elle doit se mesurer, plusieurs analystes mentionnent la Mazda3 à hayon (je trouve que la Corolla Hatchback est plus jolie vue de l’arrière) et la plus pimpante Volkswagen Golf. Toutefois, la Corolla Hatchback vaut la peine d’être considérée ne serait-ce que pour la bonne réputation des produits de la marque.

En ce qui a trait à la consommation, ma semaine au volant de cette Corolla s’est soldée par une moyenne de 7,45 l./100 km (d’essence régulière) alors que l’ordinateur de bord affichait….7,3 ! Le prix de base de cette auto est de 22 050 $ mais les options qui équipaient ma voiture d’essai Nightshade ajoutaient 4440 $ à la facture (sièges avant chauffants, radio satellite XM, moniteur d’angles morts, emblèmes noirs, aileron arrière, jantes noires de 18 pouces et j’en passe), en plus de 131,40 $ d’écofrais et de taxe pour la climatisation et 1645 $ de frais de transport et préparation ce qui a résulté en un prix final de 28 266,40 $ plus taxes, bien sûr.

Il y a une dizaine d’années de cela, M. Stephen Beatty, alors un des directeurs généraux de Toyota Canada, s’était donné comme défi de ME faire aimer les Corolla. Je ne sais pas si les gens qui dirigent Toyota Canada aujourd’hui sont encore en contact avec M. Beatty mais si ça leur est possible, dites-lui qu’il a gagné sa cause! Il ne leur reste plus, maintenant, qu’à un créer une version légèrement plus sportive (pour bien aller avec le look de l’auto) ou d’en produire certains accessoires TRD que les acheteurs pourraient lui ajouter!

Balade en Spyker, une voiture unique au Canada

Non seulement suis-je un chroniqueur automobile bien impliqué dans le domaine des automobiles (mordu de courses, collectionneur de livres et de miniatures, participant et visiteur de diverses activités automobile) mais je me tiens aussi avec plusieurs amis qui sont de vrais mordus de l’auto. Parmi ceux-là, il y a le collectionneur lavallois Yves-Luc Perreault qui possède une intéressante collection d’autos incluant une Thunderbird de la dernière génération, une Fisker (dont il a déjà été question dans ce blogue), une Smart électrique et j’en passe. Toutefois, sa pièce de résistance, c’est une superbe Spyker C8 Laviolette, une auto qu’il dit unique au Canada (du moins au moment de l’achat). Moins d’une soixantaine de ces voitures ont été produites vers 2009 et elles sont toutes de véritables œuvres d’art plus que des «supercars».

Yves prend un soin jaloux de cette merveilleuse auto d’origine hollandaise (la compagnie originale est disparue à la fin des années vingt pour revenir en 1999 ayant même participé au Championnat de Formule Un à l’époque puis repartir tout récemment). L’auto ne «sort» pas très souvent mais, lorsqu’il fait beau, très beau, Yves m’appelle pour une courte balade pour «dégourdir» la Spyker. C’est ce que nous avons fait dans les rues de Laval samedi dernier, juste le temps de se rendre dans le Vieux Saint-Vincent-de-Paul pour prendre quelques photos.

Comme je l’ai écrit plus haut, cette Spyker n’est pas nécessairement un «supercar». Toutefois, son moteur V8 central (que l’on n’atteint pas facilement car il n’y a pas de capot pour ce faire) est un V8 Audi avec boîte manuelle qui ne se fait pas prier pour des accélérations convaincantes. Malgré que l’habitacle semble étroit, on y est bien à l’aise…une fois à l’intérieur. Car il faut enjamber le très large seuil de portière pour y prendre place. Regardez bien les glaces latérales. Elles me rappellent celles des Subaru SVT de l’époque. Une chance qu’il y a la climatisation.

C’était la deuxième fois que je montais dans une Spyker. La première fois, c’était en Espagne, au circuit privé Ascari (ça passe bien dans une conversation, n’est-ce pas?) dans une version Spyder. Je prépare donc un article plus approfondi sur cette auto dans un autre site Internet (derrièrelevolant.net) où je publie certains textes moins axés sur les voitures courantes, plus sur l’histoire de l’auto ou sur des sujets inusités. Je vous invite à y jeter un coup d’œil au cours des prochaines semaines.

J’ai photographié cette «malheureuse» Ford (Mainline, peut-être) dans cet état délabré chez un garagiste de Montréal près de la Petit Italie. Regardez-la bien, elle ne semble pas rouillée (ce qui est étonnant vu son âge) et ses chromes sont encore brillants. Elle ne semble pas avoir de dommages non plus. J’espère qu’elle est là pour y être reconstruite. Je suis bien d’accord avec vous, cette berline n’est pas une grande voiture de collection. Elle n’a peut-être pas une grande valeur commerciale. Mais mérite-t-elle vraiment un sort aussi misérable? J’espère qu’on la retapera éventuellement, ne serait-ce que superficiellement!

VW Golf SportWagen and Alltrack bow out after 2019 If you want a Golf SportWagen, now’s the time to get yours. Volkswagen Canada has confirmed the 2019 model will be the last sold in Canada, as the company shifts its production focus to building a new compact SUV. A Volkswagen Canada spokesperson confirmed the Golf family is “transitioning from the seventh to the eighth generation,” but while timing and availability of the new models has yet to be determined, there will be a full 2020 model year of the Golf, GTI and e-Golf. The factory is also allotting extra production of the 2019 Golf R, SportWagen and Alltrack, with the goal of having these models available at dealerships through most of the 2020 calendar year. In the U.S., it’s possible the base Golf will be dropped, according to publication Motor1, with only the next-generation GTI and Golf R available there. The Alltrack and SportWagen are also in jeopardy south of the border. In 2018, the GTI outsold the base Golf hatchback by almost three to one in the U.S., with only 6,642 base hatchbacks finding new homes. The Golf does much better here, selling more than 17,000 copies last year. Our Volkswagen Canada rep also said the company “will introduce successor models as they become available,” which could possibly mean that while the SportWagen and Alltrack are going away, there’s a chance they could also eventually be coming

Coronavirus Takes Down Geneva, 2020’s Biggest Auto Show

The 2020 Geneva Motor Show got the hook early Friday in the wake of the Swiss government’s concerns about coronavirus and a ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people. The show’s first events were scheduled for Sunday, with media days beginning Monday, and public days from March 5-15. As of Thursday, show organizers had been reassuring exhibitors, the media, and the public that the show was definitely going ahead.

Geneva draws about 600,000 to its annual, early March dates. While other major shows draw a million visitors, Geneva has been important because it’s not seen as the host country’s show, the way Frankfurt, Tokyo, and Detroit are seen highlighting German, Japanese, and American cars.

The immediate issue is keeping the public safe, dealing with coronavirus (also called COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2), and its implications. Current research suggests coronavirus is fatal in 2 percent of cases while influenza is fatal in about 0.1 percent of cases – 20 per thousand infected versus 1 per thousand. What’s not known is what percentage of the population might be afflicted; with the flu, it’s about 8 percent, but can vary depending on the strain that season.

The cancellation of the Geneva show will amplify the discussion about the financial health of auto shows in general. The public days give potential buyers a chance to see cars. That’s when the automaker staffs are for the most part departed, leaving the regional dealer associations to staff the booths. There’s an open question about how effective shows are now at luring serious prospects when they can learn so much online. If automakers skip the shows, the dealer groups wind up shouldering more of the cost of the booth space.

Finally, there’s the interaction of automakers, media, analysts, and academics. The LA Auto Show, Nov. 20-29 this year, again has a conference and showcase focusing on green cars and the environment, called Automobility LA, that has been well received. Detroit countered with Automobili-D but it didn’t get quite the response. It’s also a time for automakers and suppliers to talk on background about future plans, and for job-seekers to pass around business cards.

The cancellation hit so quickly that Geneva’s media page was still offering credential information Friday morning.

All through the week, show organizers had said game on, but they urged automakers and media to be screened if they had concerns about being infected. At the same time, automakers had been pulling top executives from the show, which meant canceled briefings for analysts and media. And some organized media trips supported by automakers had been canceled as well. For small companies and individuals who bought non-refundable airline tickets and reserved hotels, that money is lost.

By midday European time Friday, the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) landing page carried a brief note:

The 90th edition of the GIMS, which was supposed to welcome the media from next Monday and the general public from 5 to 15 March 2020, will now finally not take place. This is an injunction decision of the Federal Council of 28 February 2020 that no events with more than 1,000 people are allowed to take place until 15 March 2020.

2019’s Top Rides: Part 1

With 2020 quickly approaching I decided to take a look back at a few of my best rides this year. Happily there were a few surprises along the way, vehicles that I thought were mediocre at best turned out to be hidden jewels. Here’s part one of three that will follow in the weeks to come.

Kia Sedona SXL - a minivan limousine?

It’s with a heavy heart that I have to announce that one of the most interesting vans in recent years, has been discontinued. I’m talking about the SXL trim line of Kia’s Sedona. What makes the SXL so different? Kia has or should I say had stepped out of the box with how to use all that space behind the driver’s seat. It took away from the soccer mom persona that has destroyed the minivan craze and instilled a luxurious second row set of captain’s chairs that can easily have the Sedona do double duty as your company’s limo when not shuttling the family around. Oh there’s still plenty of cargo room (33.9 cu.ft. behind the third row and 77.6 cu.ft. with the third row stowed) but that’s not the Sedona’s strong point. And yes there have been other minivans with captain’s seats in the second row but none as manipulative.

I spent my week behind the wheel of my tester playing tour guide to my three cousins, visiting Montreal, Quebec City and everything in between, and there was always a battle as to who would get the captain’s chairs in the back and who would ride shotgun. Not that the front seats aren’t comfortable, on the contrary, I felt as fresh after a four hour drive as when I started. In fact if anything, comfort is the Sedona’s strong point. Not only are the seats stuffed with enough material that you can easily forget you’re in a car, the ride is pleasantly soft enough to cushion you from most of Quebec’s potholes and expansion joints.

Regardless of trim, power is supplied by the GDI 3.3L V6 developing 276 horses with 248 lb-ft of torque mated to an all-new 8-speed automatic that makes the power delivery to the front wheels seamless. The old 6-speed is gone and the new automatic is a welcomed addition, increasing fuel economy, and adding to the quietness of the Sedona that you’d be hard pressed to find in another minivan.

There were enough charging outlets for all our cell phones, from the wireless pad for cousin’s phone to the USB ports for my Android. During the five days on the road my cousin needed to keep in touch with his office, often riding in the back where his iPad got its own charging outlet. The new rear-seat entertainment system however got little use. My cousin also got a kick out of setting the climate control and starting the car with his phone each morning from the comfort of our motel room.

While the world runs to suvs and crossovers to carry a platoon of people from point A to point B, none offers the comfort and ride of the Sedona minivan. With dealers clearing their lots of 2019 models there might still be a chance to get your limo.

Chevrolet Spark 1LT: the people’s car of the new millennium

Shortly after my ride with the Beetle, (see: A Fond Farewell elsewhere on this page) I began to ponder the last time that Volkswagen offered a true affordable car. The Golf City came to mind but even that was a while ago. A quick check of VW Canada’s website and the most affordable car is the Jetta at a very reasonable twenty-one grand. The Beetle on the other hand starts at 25 grand. I wouldn’t exactly call that a car priced for the masses.

Enter Chevrolet’s Spark, a handsomely designed four-door hatchback that’s easy to get in and out of thanks to its tall stature. With the base LS model, equipped with a manual transmission coming in at just under ten thousand dollars (12 grand in Quebec) it brings affordable driving to the public. Now THAT’S a people’s car. And no it’s not electric, which is the most common question I was asked during my tenor with it. Nor does it feel cheap. Unlike some off shore econo boxes, Chevrolet has packed the Spark with goodies. Even the base car gets the 7-inch infotainment screen features 4G LTE Wi-Fi and handles Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, electronic stability control and a rear vision camera.

My 4-door 1LT (Can they not come out with better trim line names? Remember Biscayne, Bel Air and Impala?) came in at $15,895 which included cool 15-inch aluminum wheels, and traction control. In the cockpit I got power windows, cruise control, two USB ports, six speakers for listening to the sat radio, to name just a few of the features. You also get the ability to enable a second phone to receive incoming calls as well as voice command pass-through to phone.

But if you want Low Speed Automatic Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure, Rear Park Assist you’ll have to fork out $21,045 for the top of the line 2LT at which point the Spark gets pricey for its size.

Regular readers know I’m a big proponent of fun cars, and the Spark delivers in spades. It may not be the most powerful car in the category and I would have loved to have tried the 6-speed manual version over the optional CVT automatic. Some may pooh pooh the Spark for not having enough guts (98 horses and 94 lb-ft) under the hood from the 1.4L four, but hey I’m not buying a muscle car but a miserly runabout. I managed to get 6.6L/100kms with mostly highway driving.

While front seat passengers get better than average head, leg and hip room rear seat occupants may find it a bit on the tight side and is best reserved for the tykes. Likewise the trunk space is on the small side and with the seat backs not folding flat, cargo room is limited.

Whether you’re looking for a second, or third car or just want a simple ride to commute during the week and then head out to the cottage on weekends the Spark is sure to please.
