Well duh!
here's nothing Taylor Swift fans love more than an Easter egg. Give them a hint of a secret message, a conspiracy theory, or something to decode and Swifties are all over it.
So, it's no surprise, as they (we) anxiously await the announcement of international tour dates, that they would take matters into their own hands and try to determine where Swift might be playing next once she completes her current U.S. performances.
What is the likelihood of a Vancouver show? Let's break it down:
Seattle vs. Vancouver
Taylor Swift has been on five international tours; her current Eras tour is her sixth. Of her five previous tours, she came to Vancouver for three of them: Speak Now, Red, and 1989.
Swift skipped Vancouver during the Fearless tour, her first ever, and the Reputation Stadium tour, but she did play multiple other Canadian cities and Seattle.
ts1989fanatic:
Actually this is factually incorrect, for reputation she played two nights in Toronto that’s it.
Was Vancouver left off the list because she was already playing Seattle? Perhaps. There were already some artists who will either play Vancouver or Seattle for their west coast shows.
Swift played Vancouver during the Speak Now and Red tours and skipped Seattle but she played both during 1989. So overall it's hard to tell if we can bank on a Vancouver show given that the Eras tour is coming to Seattle.
Swift had another scheduled concert tour, Lover Fest, that was cancelled due to COVID and Canada wasn't included in any of the dates announced back in September 2019. Lover Fest included four U.S. shows, seven European shows, and one show in Brazil.
Does Canada count as "international"?
ts1989fanatic:
Hell yes it does, we are a separate country from the US, we have borders and everything. And a lot of us can’t afford to travel to the US or Toronto.
Additionally, previous Vancouver tour dates weren't necessarily considered part of the international tour. In some cases, Canadian shows were announced at the same time as the U.S. dates as part of a North American leg.
ts1989fanatic:
We damn well should be considered part of the international tour.
For Red and 1989 (the last time Swift performed in Vancouver) the Canadian shows were performed concurrently with the U.S. ones based on proximity.
However, Swift also performed significantly fewer shows in the last two tours. Reputation had 53 shows, only six of which were outside of North America and Canadian fans are adamant that Swift won't neglect her fans north of the border.
ts1989fanatic:
I wish I was as certain of this as some, but I honestly don’t know.
Would BC Place be booked already?
BC Place is the largest venue in Vancouver (capacity 54,500) and the one that Swift performed at on her last two visits. Still, its size doesn't come close to the capacity of some of the arenas she has performed at so far during the Eras tour. For example, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa holds 75,000 and NRG Stadium in Houston holds 72,220 fans.
ts1989fanatic:
So add more dates, instead of one night make it two or three like most US cities.
If Swift was to come to Vancouver BC Place is the only logical venue choice and would be booked by now (which means if she is coming someone is walking around Vancouver with a very big secret).
Swiftie super fans online believe that she is performing in the U.K. and Australia based on arena bookings and if we look at the BC Place calendar there are a few gaps in October where Swift could easily fit in a show or two. Some fans think she's more likely to visit in mid to late 2024 and BC Place has yet to reveal next year's calendar of events.
ts1989fanatic:
I could live with October or even 2024 so long as she’s here.
Why haven't the dates been announced yet?
ts1989fanatic:
That’s the billion $ question.
Many fans are begging to be put out of their misery: Is Taylor Swift coming to Canada or isn't she?
ts1989fanatic:
That’s the second billion $ question
International fans were promised an announcement in early 2023 (the initial dates were announced in November 2022) but the Ticketmaster disaster and subsequent hearing may have altered that plan and it's likely that the Taylor Nation team is strategizing how best to accommodate the demand.
ts1989fanatic:
Well how about @taylorswift or @taylornation put us out of our collective misery.

AA7 Speculation Post: One Year Later
here we go again.
A year and a day ago, I made a speculation post about if/when we’d ever be seeing AA7. Obviously, my claim that AA7 would be announced in September 2020 did not turn out to be true, but later that year we did get a leaked calendar containing information on the new ports for Chronicles, and also plans for a new aa7, which I summarized in this post.
Now that we have Chronicles we can verify that the leaks contained legitimate information (as if a statement from Capcom saying they were hacked wasn’t legitimate enough). So that leaves us with one key question: is AA7 still happening? If so, when can we expect it? As well, what other information from the leaked calendar can we consider, especially with early sales data on Chronicles? In addition, what are the implications of this new survey on Chronicles from Capcom?
All of that will be discussed under the cut so that this doesn’t take up too much space.
Revisiting The Calendar
Once again, here is a rough translation of the calendar that was present in the leaks:
As a note, in this post, I’ll be referring to our new games as “Chronicles” to prevent this from being blocked by people avoiding spoilers.
So: this original calendar, generated before the pandemic, had Chronicles releasing in Q1 of FY2021 - and it’s also important to note that in Japan, each fiscal year starts in April 1st, so FY2021 is actually April-June 2021. This shows that Chronicles was pushed back about a quarter from their expected release date. However, Chronicles was a port of already existing games, therefore somewhat less work was needed on them - upscaling models and textures, adding in some new features like autoplay and story mode, and of course, the English translation and voicework were needed, which is still a lot of course, but less compared to development on an entirely new game. In addition to that, the pandemic hit AA7 in its early development stage, assuming this schedule was still being followed by the time the pandemic hit. That could cause more delays than expected.
So the original plan was for AA7 to be released in Q3 of 2021, which corresponds to October-December, aligning with the 20th anniversary of the series in October. While it’s a desirable goal, it’s quite likely the pandemic pushed it back at least a quarter, if not more, if not cancelled it entirely. ... haha.
We’ll only know the fate of AA7 for certain when it’s announced. Which it is possible it may never be. However, I have two theories for, if AA7 is getting an announcement, when it will be:
1) Sometime during September 2021, either in the leadup to or during Tokyo Game Show this year. These are for the same reasons as I outlined in my initial speculation post. It’s a popular time for Ace Attorney game announcements, after all. TGS, according to what I can find, will be held online this year from September 30th to October 3rd. If Capcom announces AA7 earlier in September through Famitsu, like they did with AA6 for example, then we can expect to get some information during TGS...
2) Sometime during a 20th Anniversary Event, possibly in October 2021. I’m assuming AA is planning something for the 20th anniversary - Chronicles wasn’t really marketed as a 20th anniversary release, for instance. If they can’t release a new game for the 20th anniversary (which at this rate, seems unlikely, as we’re about two months out from that with no word about it) then an announcement would be just as good at generating hype for it.
Naturally, if we reach this time next year with absolutely no news on AA7, it’s probably safe to say it’s been cancelled or at least delayed so severely that anything we currently know about it isn’t worth much.
There’s one more point of interest on the calendar: reconsidering the porting of 456. I feel that this depends heavily on how well the Chronicles ports are doing; if it’s not financially viable to keep porting games, then why bother? So, let’s take a look at that.
The Success of Chronicles
As I write this, it’s about two and a half weeks since the release of Chronicles worldwide. So... how did the games do? It’s a bit hard to tell, especially as I am not a game marketer and don’t know the expectations for Chronicles. What is obvious is that, if Chronicles does much better than expected, porting 456 and possibly even the investigations games seems likely. (If Chronicles, indeed, does especially well in the West, than a porting of the investigations games and localization of investigations 2 after ten years could very well be possible.) If Chronicles does absolutely terribly, it damages the chances of porting, and possibly of continuing the series. If it does terribly especially in the West, where the games are essentially new, it could damage the chances of any new games being localized at all.
So, a lot is riding on this, and I don’t know enough to tell how well it did. Here’s what I have found, however:
Nintendo Enthusiast reports on Famitsu sales of Switch games, and overall thinks it’s not doing so great. Chronicles ranks third on the list of Switch sales in its first week, with 14,460 units sold, over 4000 less than NEO: The World Ends With You, which was released on July 27th. Keep in mind that Chronicles was released in Japan on July 29th, which is two days later, and that these are only Japanese sales (where they’ve had Chronicles for years on both mobile and 3DS) and only Switch sales, where NEO:TWEWY is currently only available on Switch and PS4 (Chronicles has the additional platform of Steam, where there could be many more sales). In the next week, Chronicles ranked 22 overall, with NEO:TWEWY at 23, though of course they’re still a little less than 4000 units behind NEO:TWEWY overall. Slightly closing the gap, I guess.
How about overseas data, then? ... It’s hard to tell. I can find this report from gamespot which discusses the top 20 games sold in the US in July, and Chronicles is not on the list, while NEO:TWEWY is at 16. However, they don’t give any number for the units sold, and it seems that they aren’t considering digital sales for a lot of them, so it’s hard to tell how much of a hit that is.
However, let’s go back to Japanese sales for a bit, and look at the 2019 Trilogy re-release for a comparison against Chronicles. Allegedly, combined Switch and PS4 sales in the first week of the trilogy’s release only amounted to about 8000 units, a little more than half that of Chronicles’ Switch sales. It’s also important to note that the 2019 trilogy ended up being the only ace attorney game to sell over a million copies. Ace Attorney is not a big series; I’m sure Capcom takes this into account when considering sales data, especially for ports. If Chronicles does end up doing better than the trilogy overall, it’s definitely looking good for ports and especially so for Chronicles.
However, there’s more to this than just sales data.
The Survey
Capcom now has a user survey for Chronicles, which you can answer even if you’re partway through the first game. I believe it’s only open until September 30 2021, so if you think you can finish the game before then, I’d recommend filling it out once you’re done so that you can give the best feedback.
It asks you a bunch of questions like what platform you bought it on, why you bought it, your expectations, and all sorts of detailed questions on the various mechanics, difficulty and enjoyment of the trials and investigations, satisfaction of visuals, plot, characters, music, and even free response sections for what you liked and disliked about the game. It’s a very detailed survey that’s pretty long but I think is worth filling out. At the end they ask you to fill out some demographic questions (such as age, gender (male, female, other), country, what kind of things you like to spend money on, and what kind of games you like, what platforms you have to play games on). But what’s possibly the most interesting question is this:
“If a new [Chronicles] game is released in the future, do you think you would buy it?”
This means that, depending on the answers to the survey, they could very well decide to work on a third game to Chronicles.
This has huge implications for the future of the series. I’ll probably make a separate post on plot-related stuff later, but for now... let’s talk about logistics.
In my initial AA7 speculation post I said I highly doubted that they would ever make another Chronicles game. I also said that they probably never would be localized, so, guess who’s a clown now.
Right now the AA series is in a bit of a dry period, with no new games having been released in the last four years. As well, with Yamazaki (the director of the investigations games and AA5/6) having left Capcom, the next director of the mainline games is completely unknown. As described in this video, the main reason Chronicles ever came about was because Capcom went ahead with mainline AA5 before Takumi could come back from the Layton crossover. Now, since 2017, we don’t really know what Takumi is working on. It’s possible he’s gone back to mainline to work on AA7 (though of course, there is absolutely no evidence suggesting that he has, so definitely don’t take that as any sort of confirmation).
However, if we do get a Chronicles 3, it’s quite likely Takumi would return to work on that, as he directed the previous two games. In addition, if Chronicles ends up being such a success to completely eclipse mainline (from what I’ve heard, though I have no serious proof, Resolve is considered as highly rated as T&T by many Japanese fans) then the series could permanently go down the road of writing more Chronicles games, leaving mainline stagnant (which, let’s be real, it’s already stagnating). The success of that is uncertain considering how neatly our current Chronicles duology wraps up, but... we’ll have to see how things unfold in the future.
For now, I highly recommend filling out the survey to give your input to the series’ future directions. Maybe mention that you want localized investigations 2 somewhere in the free response section because uhh I forgot to do it in mine. do that for me.
TL;DR
Main takeaways from this post are:
- I personally expect an AA7 announcement either during TGS or a 20th anniversary event
- If Chronicles does extremely well, then 456 ports are likely to happen, and I personally speculate investigations ports (along with localized investigations 2) will as well.
- Fill out this Chronicles survey before September 30th to give your input on the games and possibly the future direction of the series. I recommend completing the games before you do, but if you think you won’t before September 30th, you can fill it out at any time.
- We Very Well May Get Another Chronicles Game. Who saw that coming. Not me.
Thanks if you read through all of this, let’s hope September/October doesn’t leave me looking like a fool again.

How Dare the Taliban Ban Only One Gender From School?? LA Is Banning Both
Children have until January to get vaccinated or they can't attend schools their parents pay for
— Kerry McDonald | September 22, 2021 | Anti-Empire
The Los Angeles public schools opened last month with some of the strictest coronavirus control measures in the country. Students and staff are required to wear masks inside and outside, participate in weekly virus testing, and obey social distancing protocols. District staff are also required to get the COVID-19 shot, and now all Los Angeles public school students ages 12 and over are forced to get the vaccine.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles school board voted to pass the student vaccine mandate, with one board member stating: “So I do not see this as your choice or my choice or about my great nieces and nephews and grandchildren or your children. I see this as a community necessity to protect the children under 12 who cannot be vaccinated.”
Los Angeles public school students have until the end of the calendar year to get fully vaccinated, unless they participate in extracurricular activities which requires full vaccination by October 31st. If they don’t comply, students will be pushed into a district-run online learning program. In 2015, California eliminated its religious vaccine exemption and now only recognizes medical exemptions for schoolchildren.
Some parents expressed outrage over the student vaccine mandate. Board Vice President Nick Melvoin told The New York Times that more than half of the emails he received when the student vaccine mandate was first proposed were from people who were against the mandate.
During the public comment section of Thursday’s school board meeting, Diana Guillen who is a parent of a local student and leads the District English Learner Advisory Committee, spoke out in opposition of the mandate: “This decision should be made by parents, not by you. We know if our children need the vaccine or not. It’s like you’re taking away our rights to care for our children,” she said. National polls show many parents are reluctant to vaccinate their children for COVID-19, and the majority of parents oppose school COVID-19 vaccine mandates for students.
In supporting the Los Angeles mandate, Melvoin said that a “medical and scientific consensus has emerged that the best way to protect everyone in our schools and communities is for all those who are eligible to get vaccinated.”
But there is not a “medical and scientific consensus” on the decision to vaccinate healthy children for COVID-19.
Last week, a scientific advisory panel in the UK warned against vaccinating children ages 12 to 15 with the COVID-19 shot. [And that is after the one guy who in a previous JCVI vote warned against vaccinating 16 and 17-year olds was purged. Mind you the UK government then started injecting children aged 12 to 15 despite JCVI’s opinion. (So much about being “guided by science.”)] The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) recommended the shot for children with certain underlying conditions, but suggested that the potential risks of the shot for healthy children outweigh the benefits of vaccination for this young cohort.
“There are uncertainties about the long-term implications of (myocarditis), and that makes the risk-benefit balance for these children really quite tight and much tighter than we would be comfortable to make the recommendation,” JCVI member Adam Finn told Reuters.
A new medical preprint analyzed data on the risk of a cardiac adverse event (CAE) in children who received the COVID-19 vaccine compared with children who were hospitalized due to natural infection with the virus. The researchers conclude that the vaccine risk is higher, especially for young boys. So The researchers state: “For boys 12-17 without medical comorbidities, the likelihood of post vaccination dose two CAE is 162.2 and 94.0/million respectively. This incidence exceeds their expected 120-day COVID-19 hospitalization rate at both moderate (August 21, 2021 rates) and high COVID-19 hospitalization incidence.”
Leading physicians, such as Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford University, say this paper’s findings show that from a public health perspective, “personal decision making” about COVID-19 vaccines for children is “better than universal vax.”
In the coming weeks, more school districts may follow Los Angeles’s lead in mandating student COVID-19 vaccines. Parents will have some tough choices to make, and some may decide to remove their children from their district for homeschooling and other private education options. Last year, public school enrollment fell an average of 3% nationwide, as parents removed their children from local schools or delayed school entry for young children. The US homeschooling rate doubled in 2020 to over five million students, or more than 11 percent of the overall school-age population.
There are signs that families are choosing to opt out of district schooling this year at record rates, and they have more education options available to them than ever before.
Los Angeles in particular, home to the second largest school district in the US, had the state’s largest public school enrollment drop in 2020, falling by 4.76%.
With new public school mandates that anger many parents, along with many more schooling alternatives sprouting by the day, school districts across the country could continue to see plummeting enrollment this academic year and beyond.

Bungie Weekly Update - 8/8/19
This week at Bungie, we’re preparing for a mass migration of Guardians.
youtube
This fall, the launch of Shadowkeep and New Light will deliver some bold new ways for you to manage your Guardian lifestyle. Between now and launch, we’ll have plenty of time to talk about your impending freedom to control how you look and fight. Right now, let’s focus on the ways we’ll be able to decide where you'll play.
Two important updates just went live with this article:
www.bungie.net/pcmove
This is a resource for players who have been playing Destiny 2 on PC and will be moving with us to our new home on Steam. In keeping with the announcement from last week about our new launch window, Destiny 2 will arrive on Steam for the first time on October 1. Before that happens, on August 20, you’ll be invited to begin the process of linking your PC player accounts for a smooth transition of your Guardians and all your game purchases.
www.bungie.net/crosssave
This is a resource for players who know they’ll be playing Destiny 2 in more than one place this Fall. Cross Save will finally let us unify our adventures across many platforms. The launch of Cross Save is planned for August 21. Before that happens, check out the new information we’re serving up about how it will work and what you'll be able to bring with you. If you’ve been nurturing Guardians on more than one account, you’ll have some choices to make.
PAVING THE ROAD TO LAUNCH
Players of Destiny have a lot of questions about Shadowkeep. We wouldn’t have it any other way, because we have a lot to tell you between now and launch. This is more than a Moon mission. We’re kicking off a whole new year of play, with some interesting evolutions for the experience. Without assigning exact dates to each moment, here is a sequence of events (in the order they will occur) that will broaden your understanding of what you’ll be playing in October:
'Director's Cut' with Luke Smith
Armor Customization Preview livestream
More Shadowkeep details at gamescom
Cross Save launch
How Seasons will change in D2Y3
PVP reveal for Shadowkeep
An invitation to the Crucible at PAX
And the rest will be packed into the last mile, during September. Those are the big-ticket items that we plan to cover in depth, but it’s not the full list of everything we’ll talk about. We’ll hear from Luke a number of times as we tackle these topics, beginning early next week. Thanks for going on the journey with us.
Watch this space.
=======
MOD SQUAD
Many of you have asked us to elaborate on what we’ve referred to as “Armor 2.0.”
Next week, we’ll do just that – and we’ll do it live!
Armor Customization Preview Livestream
-or-
Building a Better Monster Killing Machine
August 14, 2019 – 10AM Pacific
www.twitch.tv/bungie
www.youtube.com/bungie
www.mixer.com/bungie
Tune in wherever you feel most at home to watch three developers from Bungie build their ideal Titan, Hunter, or Warlock. They’ll apply Mods, Artifacts, and Ornaments to build their own version of the perfect monster killing machine. Then we’ll test those builds in the new Sandbox.
=======
BOSS HOGG
Solstice of Heroes is live!
For a limited time, you’re all invited to visit the European Aerial Zone – think of it as a summer vacation with some fabulous loot as your souvenir. Have you tricked out your dress uniform yet? One of the mission parameters is to defeat 100 Minibosses. Some of you have expressed that this is a few too many Boss Fights. Upon further analysis, we have agreed.
The total expectation is being revised down, from 100 to 50. The change goes live next week. If you have been struggling to hit this milestone, help is on the way. If you already hit it, please go easy on your fellow Guardians who pleaded for mercy.
Now we come to the part where I pass the mic to our Player Support Team to provide a more in-depth tactical briefing on how we deploy bits to your video game machine.
=======
PLAYER SUPPORT REPORT
On the Bungie.net #Help forum, an intrepid band of problem solvers are devoted to bringing order out of chaos. They chase the answers to your toughest questions. They fight for a world in which everyone can play, unfettered by error codes or confusion. They are the Player Support Team and they are flanked by the Mentors sworn to reinforce them in battle.
This is their report.
Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.5.2.1
Next Tuesday, August 13, we’re deploying Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.5.2.1 to players. Please see below for the full deployment schedule:
Monday, August 12:
10:00 AM PDT (1700 UTC): Destiny 2 background maintenance will begin. No downtime is expected.
2:00 PM PDT (2100 UTC): Destiny 2 background maintenance is expected to conclude.
Tuesday, August 13:
9:00 AM PDT (1600 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance will begin.
9:45 AM PDT (1645 UTC): Destiny 2 will be brought offline. All players will be returned to the title screen.
10:00 AM PDT (1700 UTC): Destiny 2 will be brought back online. Hotfix 2.5.2.1 will begin rolling out across all platforms and regions.
11:00 AM PDT (1800 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance is expected to conclude.
Following the recent announcement that Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will launch on October 1, 2019, Hotfix 2.5.2.1 brings with it some changes to the game experience that will allow us to extend the content calendar for Season of Opulence. Additionally, we’re taking this opportunity to refine the grind for Solstice of Heroes, which you can read more about below.
For live updates on this hotfix as it rolls out to players, follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed on help.bungie.net.
Solstice of Heroes: 100 Mini Bosses
For next week’s hotfix, we re-evaluated the objective requirements for unlocking the Majestic Solstice armor sets. Specifically among these objectives, we believe the 100 Mini Boss challenge has the most room for improvement. Here are the changes we’re making:
This objective is being scaled down from 100 Mini Bosses defeated to 50
Completing the final boss round contributes an additional 5 points of progress
If you’ve already earned points toward this objective, you’ll find your progress intact once Hotfix 2.5.2.1 is deployed. Happy hunting.
Known Issues Callout: Granted Emblems in Collections
Last week we distributed the Prismatic Inferno and Wolves Unleashed emblems to the Postmasters of eligible players in Destiny 2. Since then, we have worked to make players aware of a known issue where these emblems do not appear in the Collection.
Next week, with the deployment of Hotfix 2.5.2.1, these emblems will correctly appear in the Emblem Collection and can be reclaimed by players who own them. For the full Hotfix 2.5.2.1 patch notes as soon as they are available, players should stay tuned to our Updates page.
Retiring Refer-a-Friend
With the upcoming launch of Cross Save, we’re making significant changes to how Bungie.net identifies player licenses in Destiny 2.
As a result of these changes, Refer-a-Friend will no longer be available following the launch of Cross Save on August 21, 2019. Until then, all players who wish to participate in Refer-a-Friend should do so as soon as possible.
For veteran players looking for the right opportunity to make Guardians out of their closest friends after Refer-a-Friend goes away, Destiny 2: New Light launches later this year and is free for all players on all available platforms.

Wrestle Kingdom 14 Night Two - January 5, 2020; Featured Shows for 2020: G1 Climax 30 to be Held in September & October, Two Osaka-Jo Hall Shows, Sakura Genesis Returns to Schedule, No KOPW in 2020?
The second part of the historic two-night Wrestle Kingdom 14 has come and gone, and... yeah, there’s a lot here. You know where you can watch it and how much to pay for it. Let’s get right to it.
- January 5, 2020, Tokyo Dome (NJPWWorld, FITE TV)
NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship Gauntlet Match: EVIL, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables d. Togi Makabe, Toru Yano [CHAOS] & Ryusuke Taguchi © and Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI & Robbie Eagles [CHAOS] and Taichi, El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru [SZKG] and Bad Luck Fale, Yujiro Takahashi & Chase Owens [Bullet Club] (Shingo > Taguchi, Made In Japan, 6:08) - Order Of Eliminations: - CHAOS > Bullet Club - CHAOS > SZKG - LIJ > CHAOS - LIJ > MVP - Makabe/Yano/Taguchi fail their 5th defense - EVIL/Shingo/BUSHI are the 20th champions

NEVER Openweight Championship: Hirooki Goto [CHAOS] d. KENTA [Bullet Club] © (GTR, 16:12) - KENTA fails his 3rd defense - Goto is the 28th champion
Jay White [Bullet Club] d. Kota Ibushi (Blade Runner, 24:58)
Chris Jericho [FREE] d. Hiroshi Tanahashi (Walls of Jericho, 22:24)
IWGP Heavyweight & IWGP Intercontinental Championships Double Gold Dash: Tetsuya Naito [Los Ingobernables] © d. Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS] © (Destino, 35:37) - Okada fails his 6th defense - Naito succeeds his 1st defense - Naito is the 70th IWGP Heavyweight Champion and first Double Champion
Sometimes, you do need to tranquilo, and we learned that lesson here tonight, with this main event. This wasn’t just Naito winning the Double Gold Dash that he talked about all of 2019, and was the main driver of. This wasn’t just Naito winning in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom, and beating Okada at the third time of asking at the Dome at that. This was the culmination of a six year long storyline with Naito, that started with a fan vote that saw his earned WK main event be taken from him; that saw him be rejected by the fans and fall into Los Ingobernables along with two other friends in CMLL who had also been rejected by the fans of their company. That saw Naito and Los Ingobernables de Japon become one of the hottest acts in all of wrestling, to the point of being the only NJPW wrestler to get pre-match chants his way. That saw him get his Dome main event, but then lost at the final hurdle. And now, two years after coming up short in G1 Climax, being saddled with a title belt that he despised, but now accepts, and a lot of online angst from his fans, Naito is an IWGP Heavyweight Champion at the Tokyo Dome, and the first to hold both title belts.
So naturally, KENTA attacks him during the LIJ Roll Call. Because NJPW booking has whomever loses to Goto at WK fail upwards. Which is a damn shame for Goto, because his match was really quite good, and he always delivers at Wrestle Kingdom. It’s the other 11 months out of the year that the booking makes him look like a chump. Just let Goto club mofos in 2020 and see how far he comes along. KENTA meanwhile helps remake Bullet Club as the top rudo faction in the company, along with Jay White. His match with Ibushi was GOOD... until the last five minutes or so. And then we get the needless ref bumps and fuck finishes and interference. Really took me out of the match honestly.
Jon Moxley retains the IWGP US Heavyweight title, meaning not only was Juice Robinson denied also being a Double Champion, but also that Moxley looks to be sticking around in some capacity. Also sticking around, is Minoru Suzuki, who despite all the talk (including from this blog, ahem) that he may be done in NJPW and would be coming to NOAH tonight, appeared after Moxley’s match, with a full “Kaze Ni Nare” entrance, and laid him right out. I am completely psyched for a Moxley v. Suzuki feud, and never been so glad to be wrong about something I’ve written about. This is the type of quality pairing the fans have been clamoring for.
SANADA is the only member of LIJ to not have any kind of title belt. Hmmm.
Jushin Thunder Liger’s final match was something to behold, and words cannot do justice the emotions behind this. Post-match, he gave a quick speech to the Tokyo Dome crowd, thanking them for 31 years of support. Backstage, the creator of the original Jushin Liger comic, Go Nagai, was there to greet him, as well as Daichi Hashimoto, current BJW wrestler, and the son of the late Shinya Hashimoto. In the meantime, the teamup between Hiromu and Ryu Lee (in his debut as Ryu Lee) didn’t last, and Hiromu offers the first challenge for the IWGP Juniorheavyweight title to Ryu Lee.
One interesting aspect of this was Ryu Lee came wearing the ROH World Television title, which got no mention on the Japanese commentary, and from all accounts one mention followed by awkward silence on the English. Contrast that with numerous mentions of AEW and their title belt, which Jericho wore to the match. However, Jericho still won, so there will be no challenge by Hiroshi Tanahashi for that title anytime soon. Jericho did say backstage (out of character?) that he wants AEW and NJPW to work together more in the future. So stay tuned for that.
All in all, a very satisfying two days. The attendance was listed for tonight as 30,063, a nearly 10,000 person drop, however this is still hardly a failure, given the sell-out last night. A very successful weekend for NJPW and the Tokyo Dome. I do have to wonder if Ibushi v. Naito would have popped the number more, however. We will discuss that on the Podcast soon, probably later this week.
Looking to the future, NJPW announced select major show dates, with some very interesting listings. First off, they will run both Dominion AND The New Beginning In Osaka at Osaka-jo Hall this year. Wrestling Dontaku is once again a two-day event.
Sakura Genesis returns to the NJPW calendar this year, on 3/31/2020 from Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan. The BOSJ Final will be on 6/6/2020 at Tokyo Ota Ward Gymnasium, rather than at Ryogoku like last year.
The biggest news here is G1 Climax 30 will be getting moved to the autumn rather than July/August this year. This is totally to do with the Olympics being in Tokyo this summer, and the lack of availability of arenas during that time. It will be interesting to see G1 so late in the year, however, with the Finals at Ryogoku on 10/16/2020 - 10/18/2020. The other upshot here is with this move, there does not appear to be a King Of Pro Wrestling event on the cards for this year, as the G1 30 Finals will take place during that usual time, unless they run it at another time this year. The Olympics are making things very interesting for NJPW.
I will list the shows soon in an Upcoming NJPW Events pot coming real soon.
Tomorrow is New Year Dash!!, which is a secret card, bar the retirement ceremony for Jushin Thunder Liger. I may not hold it together for that. We are also still awaiting the announcement for the cards for Fantasticamania, and The New Beginning, tho the latter will depend on New Year Dash!! to some extent.
Hope everyone enjoyed this Wrestle Kingdom weekend, and we move on to the future.

Three Speed October 2019 is coming! (Sept 27-Nov 3)
Hello, friends of Three Speeds! After taking a break for 2018, the Three Speed October Challenge is on for 2019!
The premise is simple: Ride your three speed during the month of October! Here are the basic stipulations of this challenge:
Ride a three speed bicycle
Three times a week
At least three miles (5 km) each trip
For at least three weeks during the duration of the challenge
During a five-week period that centers around the month of October
And those of you who successfully complete the challenge will qualify to get something! If you are not already a member, successful completion of the challenge will qualify for a discounted SoTS membership.
For 2019, the Three Speed October Challenge will run from Friday September 27th to Sunday November 3rd. All times local.
You can find all the tl;dr rules here.
While the basics of the event remain the same, there are some tweaks and revisions to the 2019 Challenge:
Starting with the 2019 challenge, you do not have to follow a traditional calendar week. It just has to be a seven day period. For example, if you started your first ride on a Wednesday, your week ends on the following Tuesday. But most importantly, weeks cannot overlap. So if you start one week on a Wednesday, your next “week” can’t start until at least the following Wednesday. You just need to fill up three non-overlapping “weeks” during the duration of the challenge. (And yes, there can be gaps. The weeks don’t have to butt up against each other.) The first full week you can do is Friday September 27 through Thursday October 3rd. The last full week you can do is Monday October 28th through Sunday November 3rd.
The final weekend of the challenge, Friday November 1st through Sunday November 3rd, is designated as a Make-Up Weekend. During this “make up weekend” can only do one ride and one ride only to make up for a missed one for any previous “biffed” week. So you’ll still need to ride two rides during a previous week. Please note you can still do part of a regular week during this time too, if your final week happens during November 1-3.
In the past I allowed the possibility of doing two rides in a day. Since I made the calendar more flexible, I’m taking that away. So, you need to ride three separate and distinct trips in a week, each ride on a different day.
The prize pack for this year will consist of my new Three Speed October design that you see above. There are stickers, and there will be patches! These will be awarded to those who successfully complete the challenge. (Please note that there is a fee for getting the stickers/patches.)
And starting in 2019, there will be some bonus prizes! What can you do to get these bonus prizes? Well, I’ll be awarding one for each of the following:
Longest single ride. This one is pretty straightforward. (Must be contained to a 24 hour period.) If two or more people tie, see tie-breakers in item four below.
Best write up of your ride(s). Make them interesting!
Best photo. Must include in photo a bike you rode. If you are posting pics here to tumbr, or to Instagram/flickr, tag them with #threespeedoct2019 and make sure I know about them!
Most bikes used during the challenge. The maximum amount you can do is nine, one for each ride. (Sorry, you can’t switch out bikes during a ride to get more bikes in.) If two or more people tie, tiebreakers will include, in this order: “Naked” hub gear bikes will win over any bike with an attached derailleur (like a Brompton.) (Note: this does not include derailleurs used strictly as a chain tensioner.) Pure three speed hub gear bikes will win over four or five speed hubs. Age of bikes, i.e. older bikes win over newer.
If you are mailing in your Challenge Reports, a prize for most interesting package!
And what is the prize pack for 2019? Take a gander at this years design (above)! It will be available in both patch and sticker form. These prize packs will cost between $5 and $20, depending.
*****
Okay! You want to do this? Please fill out the Google Form here. Once you fill in this form, you’ll get the submission forms emailed to you! These Submission Forms will be sent after October 4, 2019.
The deadline for reporting your rides for the Challenge is 11:59 PM Pacific Time on Friday November 15 2019.
Don’t want to fill out online forms? You can submit reports via Post! If you want to do this, please get in touch first. You can email me at [email protected] Or send me a letter or postcard to:
