2020 BMW IX3 ELECTRIC SUV REVEALED

BMW has revealed the first of a flurry of new EVs that it is set to launch over the next few years. Unsurprisingly, the car-maker has begun this onslaught with the BMW iX3, an electric derivative of the BMW X3. How to Price a 2020 Lincoln Corsair Luxury SUV Beyond $60,000 (and a Similar Audi, BMW, or Mercedes)

Lincoln is currently riding high off a strong one-two SUV punch, having successfully launched the redesigned full-size Navigator last year and seeing critical approval of the resurrected mid-size Aviator model. Now the American luxury brand has turned its attention to the compact SUV formerly known as the MKC. All-new for 2020, that crossover now goes by the cool-sounding “Corsair” name and, based on our first impressions, is an altogether more competitive product than the MKC it replaces. It’s also a hell of a lot more expensive when fully loaded—like, more-than-its-competitors expensive.

To see show you how much more money it’ll take to buy a top-end 2020 Corsair versus an equivalent 2019 MKC, we hit Lincoln’s online Corsair configurator and threw every available option at it. It’s worth noting that the Corsair is currently offered in only Standard and Reserve trim levels, while the old MKC could be had in Standard, Select, Reserve, and bougie Black Label trims. Since we were aiming for maximum cost here, that meant lining up a 2019 MKC Black Label against the 2020 Corsair Reserve. With every available option, the Corsair stickers for nearly $10,000 more than the similarly loaded MKC. Here’s how:

We skipped right past the entry-level Corsair Standard, which is priced reasonably for the segment (at $37,585 to start) for the fancier Reserve trim, which starts at $44,270. In addition to the Standard’s list of, ahem, standard equipment (heated, power-adjustable front seats; a 4G LTE data connection with onboard Wi-Fi; LED exterior lighting; and a full complement of active safety gear), the Reserve brings extras like navigation, 19-inch wheels, and a super-swank Revelo audio system.

To that one must opt for the available 280-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, which replaces the base 250-hp 2.0-liter engine and adds $6740 to the bottom line. That’s a lot of cheese, mostly because the engine requires adding all-wheel drive and the Reserve I package and its ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, heated steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, self-parking feature, adaptive cruise control, collision warning, and a 360-degree parking camera.

But wait, there’s more! What you really need is the $11,540 Reserve II package, which adds to the Reserve I stuff an adaptive suspension system (which in our experience delivers a pillowy ride quality and secure handling on twisty roads) and leather-wrapped front seats with 14 additional power-operated adjustments. Maximum cost requires you to also select the $1,600 Reserve Appearance Package, the $600 Beyond Blue Interior Package (blue-colored everything inside!), $1,700 head-up display (which is actually quite large and useful), and $695 Flight Blue paint (gotta match the interior). Going all-in on the option sheet results in nearly $17,000 in extras, elevating the 2020 Lincoln Corsair Reserve’s sticker price to a dizzying $61,255.

That’s a lot of money for not a lotta Lincoln (it’s only a compact SUV!). Sure, Lincoln’s styling and quality continue to improve, and the gap between it and European rivals is closing. Based on our first drive in the 2020 Corsair, the crossover is mostly lovely and deserving of its more aspirational pricing (the car we evaluated was just over $60,000, too). Only one hitch: The Corsair now costs more than a similarly loaded four-cylinder Audi Q5, BMW X3, or Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, all of which are priced around $55,000. And while Lincoln doesn’t offer a larger or more powerful engine option beyond the Corsair’s 280-hp 2.3-liter four, its European competitors do. In fact, you can buy the 349-hp Audi SQ5, 382-hp BMW X3 M40i, or 362-hp Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 for the same money you’d spend on this Corsair. Forget a one-two punch—Lincoln’s SUVs are now swinging for the gut.

2019 Lincoln MKC Review – After a redesign of the Continental, Navigator and MKZ models, the Lincoln manufacturer has decided to make some improvements to its entry-level crossover known as the Lincoln MKC. This is a compact crossover SUV that will soon join the market as Lincoln MKC 2019. It was presented at the LA Auto Show in 2017 and is expected to enter the showrooms later this year.

The Lincoln MKC is an attractive and well-equipped luxury crossover. It offers a quality and modern cabin, although the rear seats are a bit tight, at least for the larger passengers. The 2019 model year has undergone a mid-cycle update, which means that the MKC will now bring many interesting changes. The most noticeable improvement will be visible on the front panel, including a new grill. Security will finally be enhanced with more standard features and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will finally be available. The new MKC will be available in four trim levels. These will include the Premiere Base, Select, Reserve, and Black Range-topping levels. Its main competitors in the market will be the Mercedes-Benz GLC Class, the BMW X3, the Lexus RX, the Infiniti QX50 and the Acura RDX.

2019 Lincoln MKC Design

The biggest change of the new 2019 Lincoln MKC will be its exterior design. The front and rear fairings will be updated. The most notable improvement is a new rectangular chrome grille that was introduced in the Lincoln Navigator. The headlights will also be slightly revised. The rear will also feature a small adjustment and there will be more chrome details and redesigned taillights.

Speaking of the interior of the 2019 Lincoln MKC, the automaker has not done great jobs. He will continue to be calm, comfortable and well equipped. However, there will be changes given the technology. The board will have the same 8.0-inch touchscreen with Sync3, but this time it will have the standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Other standard features include an electric tailgate, dual zone climate control, rear view camera, 9-speaker stereo system, keyless ignition and heated seats. In regards to security, MKC will now receive more standard systems. These will include automatic emergency braking, frontal collision warning, airbags, etc. In addition, neutral monitors, lane change warning and active parking assistance will be optional.

In the engine department, this time there will be no changes. The 2019 Lincoln MKC will acquire the equal engines because of the modern model. The base is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that will produce 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The second option is a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine with 4 cylinders. This unit will be able to develop 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. In addition, there will be a choice between a front-wheel drive and an AWD configuration. Its towing capacity will reach up to 3,000 pounds.

Video: 2019 BMW X5 M50d Review by What Car? Explains All

The guys from What Car? decided to take a closer look at the new BMW X5. Since they are based in the UK and still in the EU, they had access to a diesel-powered model, as most of Europe still relies heavily on compression-ignition mills. Just like me, last year, they had an Alpine White BMW X5 M50d available for testing purposes and they were impressed with its performance, as expected.

The thing about this ‘turbo monster’, as I ended up calling, it is that it’s absolutely baffling when it comes to delivering outstanding performance with incredible fuel consumption figures. A car with a 3-liter diesel engine shouldn’t be able to push out 400 HP and sip so little fuel at the same time. The four turbos mounted to the B57S engine sure help in that regard as they also do when it comes to pedal response and the general feeling of the car.

However, it’s not all good news when it comes to the new X5, as the guys explain. It’s less practical by comparison to its main rivals. The boot is particularly small, behind the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 while the smaller BMW X3 is just shy of its capacity. As for fitting two extra seats in the back, since luggage space is already limited, you might want to reconsider that option and maybe go for the bigger BMW X7 if you plan on carrying more than five adult at a time.

Other downsides include comfort, as it looks like even in its most comfortable configuration, riding on air bags, the X5 is still rougher round the edges than the Q7. Go for an M Sport model and things get worse in that regard but better when driving fast. As for the costs, the X5 once again sits above the Q7 and XC90 but is cheaper to run than a Land Rover, for example. This is one rather good and detailed review of the X5 and if you’re looking at one right now, it could provide useful insight.

The Audi SQ5 Is Sporty, Sumptuous, and Strong

A sport-tuned crossover wearing 21-inch low-profile summer tires has no right to ride as creamily as does Audi’s second-generation high-performance SQ5. But smooth and refined the SQ5 most assuredly is—as I discovered mere minutes after climbing behind its leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel. This is a busy segment of the market, bursting with the likes of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the Porsche Macan, the BMW X3, and the Jaguar F-Pace, to name just a few. Even among such impressive competition, though, the SQ5 has a lot to show for itself.

My Matador Red test car was a 2018 model but the 2019 carries over essentially unchanged aside from a new Premium base trim level that joins the Premium Plus and Prestige models. (Specs and pricing will be for 2019 models.) My example was a sumptuously appointed Prestige, which commands a $9,700 over the Premium. For that sum you get a color head-up display, a Bang & Olufsen surround-sound audio system, Audi MMI navigation, Audi’s virtual cockpit, and much more. Among the other options on board: $500 carbon-fiber interior trim, the $595 paint, the $3,000 S Sport package (adaptive air suspension, red calipers, torque-vectoring rear differential), Nappa leather upholstery for $1,000, Dynamic Steering for $1,150, and 21-inch wheels with 255/40 summer rubber for another grand. My car also had an $1,800 Driver Assistance package that brought a bunch of active safety goodies, most of which were made standard on 2019 Premium Plus and/or Prestige models. The final tally to get a 2019 like mine? $70,340, not an insignificant amount for something this size.

But climb aboard and the SQ5 welcomes you into a stylish atmosphere full of pleasing shapes and rich materials, including fine, diamond-stitched quilted leather and crisp brushed-aluminum trim. The general feeling of quality is all but unsurpassed. This is a delicious—that’s the word—environment in which to hit the road. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features of the comprehensive infotainment system, but the real star is the Virtual Cockpit, which beams a full-color, photo-realistic Google Earth map display onto a large screen directly behind the wheel. It looks great and works beautifully, also allowing you to configure the main gauges (speedo, tach) as you like them. A large rotary knob and an accompanying touchpad on the central console make navigating the MMI multimedia interface totally painless. Audi has smartly avoided doing away with buttons and switches altogether, using a simple dials-and-tabs interface for controlling the climate-control system, plus additional buttons for operating various systems intuitively. Even seemingly unimportant details—such as, say, how smoothly the central display screen rolls through SiriusXM radio stations—combine to enhance the driving experience. The is one well-thought-out cockpit.

Space-wise, the gen-two SQ5 is roomier than its predecessor, but you wouldn’t call it “big” inside. Rear-seat leg- and shoulder room step up a notch, but you’ll trade some spaciousness to enjoy the Audi’s tidy exterior dimensions. The cargo area behind the second row is adequate for groceries or bags for a getaway, but there are roomier options in this class. I’d say most performance-minded shoppers considering the SQ5 will be fine with its interior volume and its prioritization of sportiness over size.

With three settings selectable at the touch of a button, the M-specific suspension’s electronically controlled dampers enable both excellent everyday comfort and extremely direct contact with the road, with low wheel and body movements. The bespoke kinematics and elastokinematics of the M-specific suspension – with its double-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle – deliver precise wheel location and directional stability. Composed to also deliver precisely controllable on-limit handling, the chassis technology package rounds off with M-specific steering (including M Servotronic and variable ratio) and powerful M compound brakes. Among the other items on the standard specification list are 20-inch M light-alloy wheels.

Like the damper control systems and M xDrive modes, the engine and transmission characteristics and steering set-up can be adjusted at the touch of a button. The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system allows controlled wheel slip in M Dynamic Mode and, needless to say, can also be switched off. Plus, the content shown in the optional Head-Up Display can be specified via the iDrive menu. The driver can store two overall set-up options – configured as desired from the above parameters – in the iDrive menu and select them as and when required using the two M buttons on the steering wheel.

M-specific design features optimise the supply of cooling air for the BMW X3 M, BMW X4 M and Competition models, as well as their aerodynamics. On the BMW X4 M and BMW X4 M Competition, these elements are joined by a CFRP rear spoiler.

Among the items fitted as standard in the BMW X3 M, BMW X4 M and Competition models are LED headlights, the hi-fi speaker system and the ConnectedDrive navigation package including the Navigation system Professional. The options list for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 provides further scope for individualisation and includes cutting-edge driver assistance systems and the digital services from BMW Connected and BMW ConnectedDrive.
