Check out this Topshop outfit I put together! An example of how to wear that pretty Spring dress, but still stay warm in the chilly winds. The floral dress was a wrap around style to create the low cut v-neck style & due to the pattern it only needed a plain top underneath. Black was the ideal choice because it goes with anything + finding a colour to suit not only all the colours on the dress but the overall brightness would have been a pain. The dark & bright shades contrast each other, which actually makes the colours more vivid & the patterns more defined. Whilst the main focus is the dress, by layering black underneath you are almost creating a backdrop for your frame. Essentially you are isolating the shade and this means the parts that are visible will have more of impact. The oversized floaty sleeves + v neck cut, teamed with the tight top + funnel neck finish, elongates the arms neck & torso - the black tights and chunky heeled boots do the same to the legs. Overall this helps to create a taller, slender, silhouette. Avoid layering with short sleeves, as this will make your arms look chopped in half due to the already short dress sleeves - the same will happen with your neck if you wear a lower cut top underneath. My only other warning if you are looking for a wrap around dress would be to select one that has extra fastenings, as well as the ties at the side. Spring Summer 2017 Key Trends

The decades of yesteryear are back. Everything in fashion feels so nostalgic at the moment. The 80’s and 90’s inspired looks are so on trend.

The 1980’s were a decade of power dressing. The blouse from this decade has made a comeback in 2017 with ruffles being a key trend this season. Seen on Joan Collins in Dynasty is all the rage again. The blouse and shirt is so chic this season with the statement sleeve making a well deserved come back.

Earrings are the must have accessory but you wont be wearing a pair. Just one statement earring is so on trend the bigger, the bolder the earrings the better.  The earrings in style this season would put Alexis Colby to shame.

Colours are so on trend this season with the micro floral pattern being so chic this summer. Block colours are back on trend again. Shocking pink will be everywhere this season. The pop art theme is running throughout everything with clothing even looking almost comic book with graphic and geometric prints on trend again as they were last spring summer season. The block colours almost feel very eighties again with that style running through them.

The oversized shoulders on jackets that emulate the shoulder pads of yesteryear will be everywhere. Drapes on dresses, volume at the shoulders on clothing. All making everything look ruffled and very much like crepe paper.

Sports parkas, sportswear are so trendy again with Versace, Stella McCartney and Joseph proud to be showcasing these pieces in block colour and statement fabrics from their fashion houses this spring summer.

The 1970’s are making a comeback with big, bold floral prints being very kitsch this summer. The tank top style jumper made famous by Frank Spencer. The style your dad probably wore is very chic this season in Vogue.

Jumpsuits that wouldn’t look out of place thirty years ago are so chic in 2017. There is an underlying repeated pattern of the styles that has been in, in 2017 and 2016 and that are very much the styles of the 1980’s. Whether it is denim or cotton this statement piece will be on the catwalk and in the heart of fashion for a long time yet.

Leggings again another key fashion of the 1980s and 1990s that you wore as a child are back on the catwalk this season. Louis Vuitton showcased a luxurious lace pair at Fashion week.

The hide and seek cut out on dresses and skirts is back. This style had a brief outing in the 1990’s but is back bigger and bolder in 2017. With chiffon material at the staple of this piece to reveal the skin for a sexy sophisticated style.

The trench coat that was in last summer is back again. No longer is the mac untrendy and associated with a French detective character wearing in it a film. It’s associated with fashion and is very trendy.

The colour yellow is back again and is everywhere particularly canary yellow. This shade previously appeared on our catwalks and everywhere in 2008. It is good to see it again in 2017.

Grab your boyfriend’s shirt and wear it as a dress because the masculine look is back. Whether you wear it with a pair of skinny jeans or as a shirtdress you will be on trend this season.
