TBR TAKEDOWN: GOODREADS, WEEK 5b
Heartstone (Heartstone #1) by Elle Katharine White
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm trying to trim down my tbr list(s) and I'm asking for your help! Descriptions and more info under the cut. Please reblog and add your thoughts!
* * * * * *
A debut historical fantasy that recasts Jane Austen’s beloved Pride & Prejudice in an imaginative world of wyverns, dragons, and the warriors who fight alongside them against the monsters that threaten the kingdom: gryphons, direwolves, lamias, banshees, and lindworms.
They say a Rider in possession of a good blade must be in want of a monster to slay—and Merybourne Manor has plenty of monsters.
Passionate, headstrong Aliza Bentaine knows this all too well; she’s already lost one sister to the invading gryphons. So when Lord Merybourne hires a band of Riders to hunt down the horde, Aliza is relieved her home will soon be safe again.
Her relief is short-lived. With the arrival of the haughty and handsome dragonrider, Alastair Daired, Aliza expects a battle; what she doesn’t expect is a romantic clash of wills, pitting words and wit against the pride of an ancient house. Nor does she anticipate the mystery that follows them from Merybourne Manor, its roots running deep as the foundations of the kingdom itself, where something old and dreadful slumbers . . . something far more sinister than gryphons.
It’s a war Aliza is ill-prepared to wage, on a battlefield she’s never known before: one spanning kingdoms, class lines, and the curious nature of her own heart.
Date added: 2017
Goodreads: 3.79
Storygraph: 3.78
PRO:
Alternate history! Historical fantasy! Dragons!
Entire series is available from the library in my preferred format (audiobook)
CON:
YA or maybe not?
Sometimes things inspired by P&P are bad. Frequently.

~Astro Observation part II
8th House Synastry : Daisy Jones and The Six
Daisy Jones & Billy Dunne
Tumblr media
📌Don't Steal My Work!! The rights to Astro content and Ideas created by and belonging to @queenbeza
There Are Spoilers , You've Been Warned❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕
📌Don't Be A Dick, Credit my work and others as well❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕❗️
SO.....
I just finished watching Daisy Jones & The Six and noticed similarities to 8th house synastry that I wanted to share to Astrotumblr. I recognized even in 8th house synastry that I've had with friends, family, and unrequited loves can be an intense transformative repeating cycle , if you're unable to acknowledge where all parties stand in a relationship. So, Very Plutonian.
*I just found out the series is based on a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid and now I'm curious to know, if there were any major changes made to the series vs the book.
Anyways,
8th house themes to me:
Transformation, Inheritance, Death, Rebirth, taxes, married couples, intimacy, Unspoken, mirrors, truth, subconscious & conscious, base comforts, gifts, reciprocity, true value, war, Scorpio, magnets, our obsessions, Mars, vulnerabilities, armor and weapons used to defend, The Aftermath or conclusion to a legal battle/divorce/separation.
How do these themes tie into Daisy Jones & The Six:
I think Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne represent a plutonian/8th house couple that recognize their mirroring selves and are constantly pulled towards another like magnets, but unable to fullfill their romantic desires because of their vices and life commitments.
Billy married Camilla his teen sweetheart.
He cheats on Camilla and has an alcohol addiction.( his alcohol addiction stems from failure in life, music career, to being a new father, and his absent father in childhood, who so happened to be a deadbeat drunk)🤔🙃
His ego and pride prevent him and rest of the band from reaching their highest potential because the fear of his shadow. ( Chiron in Leo, Chiron in 2nd, Chiron 3rd, Apollo placements)
Daisy comes from an emotionally neglectful household and resentful mother, which also inspires her to write her music and join The Six( Moon in 8th, Cancer in 8th, Moon, Gemini in 8th, Mercury in 12th house).
Daisy strikes it out on her own, meets Simone Jackson, Teddy Price, and eventually The Six.
Daisy and Billy are attracted to each other because they can relate to addiction, the need to fill their emptiness with substance abuse, and acknowledge their vulnerability with each other. They feel whole when they're together, but this isn't enough to keep them from destroying themselves and the band.

I'm ranking all of my Apple Watch bands because it's my blog, I'm bored, and I want to.
The Contenders:
(The Normies)
White Silicone Buckle Band
(Product) Red Silicone Buckle Band
Cloud Blue Sport Loop Band (S)
Silver Stainless Steel Milanese Loop Band (†)
Black Unity Knitted Solo Loop Band
(The Pride Collection)
2018 Pride Woven Nylon Buckle Band (LE, †)
2019 Pride Sport Loop Band (LE, †)
2020 Pride Silicone Buckle Band (LE, †)
2021 Pride Knitted Solo Loop Band (†)
2022 Pride Sport Loop Band
2023 Pride Silicone Buckle Band
LE: Limited Edition (This band was Limited Edition at its time of release.) †: Discontinued (This band has been discontinued by Apple, for now.) S: Seasonal (This band is currently on sale, but is "Seasonal." When Apple reveals their next Season's collection of colors, this band will be pulled from sale. It will not be know if the band will return or be discontinued until next year when the same season debuts again.)
#11 - 2018 Pride Woven Nylon Buckle Band
Tumblr media
This band is (unfortunately) the worst of the worst. It will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first Pride Band I bought after coming out. In fact, I much prefer the design of the 2017 Pride Band, but the reason I don't have it is because I hadn't come out when the Band was released, so I couldn't buy it. Regardless, both bands were Apple's now (thankfully) discontinued Nylon Buckle design. The fabric is scratchy and not really comfortable to wear for long duration of time. On top of that, unlike the Sport Loop which has pretty durable and hydrophobic fabric, the Nylon Buckle had neither of these. The fabric was weak. It easily frayed if not treated delicately, and the hole that you latched the buckle into could easily stretch out. The loop that secures the excess band is also 100% Nylon Fabric, and it by far feels like the most fragile part of this band. In addition, because the fabric basically wicked liquids into it, this band stained super easily. The white fabric also made this significantly more noticeable. Overall, the design is fine (they get much worse in later years), but the scratchy fabric, poor durability, and easy discoloration make this the worst Watch band I own. It sits in its box, and that's where it will stay because not only do I not want to swear this band, but I am too afraid to wear it, for fear of destroying it. Good riddance to the Nylon Buckle Watch bands. May they rest in piss.
#10 - 2023 Pride Silicone Buckle Band
Tumblr media
The only reason this band is placed above the Nylon Band is because it has durability on its side. Everything else? Awful. The Silicone Buckle Bands (while iconic) are suffocating. They are not breathable in the slightest. As a result, they build up grime and body nastiness very easily. This, by itself, isn't a problem since the all-silicon design of them makes the very easily to clean without fear of destroying them. However. This band is one of the ugliest I have. There is one that I consider uglier... but this one is placed lower because of how low effort it is. I mean, this is supposed to be a pride band? This sucks ass. I'd rather just wear a white silicone band (which I own, and as you can see, it ranked higher than this one). The "sprinkle" gradient wouldn't even be that bad... if it was done properly. Since the band tucks under itself, however, a lot of the colors are actually obscured from view. As a result, irl, this band looks like it only consists of Orange, Green, Yellow, and Blue. That's not pride. That's a sports team or some shit, and the "sprinkles" design doesn't even look that good. It looks lazy. The polished button piece with "Designed with Pride in California" engraved onto it is a really nice touch, but it doesn't come close to outweighing just how lazy this band's design feels.
#9 - 2022 Pride Sport Loop Band
Tumblr media
You'll notice (unlike the other images on this post) that this band is pictured backwards. That's because of it's cool "Pride" lettering. This band, admittedly, is very cool looking. The colors are... somewhat close, and the "Pride" word written out in Apple's iconic "Hello" font is a very nice touch. In fact, it's unique to this bad. No other Sport Loop has lettering like this. The dual-tone-ness of the band is also really nice. Overall, this is among my favorite Watch band designs. So, where does it fall flat? A few places. Firstly, the colors. They're mostly right (and they're certainly better than some of Apple's Pride bands), but they're not right. They tried to integrate the pastel pink and pastel blue stripes of the trans pride flag into the regular pride flag. The pastel blue is fine, but the pink between the orange and yellow is horrible. Also, the brown and black stripes being separated on opposite sides of the band was... a choice. I don't hate this design... it just feels busy and overthought. Where this band earns it's #9 spot... is its durability. The Sport Loop bands are more durable than the Nylon Buckle bands (and the Knitted Solo Bands), but they simply can't hold their own to good old silicone. As a result white fabric is this things Achilles heel. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on it, I would be able to wear this band for extended periods of time, and I was right. I think I got about two weeks of wear out this band before it noticeably started turning gray. I didn't want to ruin it, so I cleared it with OxiClean the best I could, and it's lived in its box ever since. It's a beautiful, comfortable Watch that I'm terrified to wear because if you sneeze in the wrong direction it turns gray.
#8 - 2021 Pride Knitted Solo Loop Band
Tumblr media
I love Apple's Knitted Solo Loop bands. I just absolutely adore them, so for this one to be this low... it has some issues. In fact, you may even be able to guess one my major gripes with this band. Before that, however, let's talk positive. This is THE most comfortable-to-wear Apple Watch band you can buy. The elastic fit is comfortable, but never tight. The fabric is so soft. The durability also isn't too bad. From my experience, the bands haven't really stretched all that much. They have a little, but not enough to make them unwearable. I've also recently had one where the fabric starts wearing down enough to show the elastic bands underneath, but I've had that band for years, so... it gets a decent grade for being fabric and lasting that long. That's about it for the good, though. On the down side... this band is fucking ugly. The weaving pattern of this band cannot handle the number of colors in the Progress Pride flag. It simply cannot. This is a mess, and it's ugly. Apple replaced this band in 2024, and the replacement is still ugly. Secondly, staining. The pastel blue, pink, and white suck up stains like it's their job. This was Apple's first attempt at explicitly including the trans flag's color's into their band, and... while I'm appreciative of the effort... those colors are so fucking sustainable it's unreal. This band (despite not wearing it for too long) is one of two (alongside the Nylon Buckle Band) that I managed to permanently stain, even though I cleaned them to the best of my ability. Lastly, the price. I'm not talking about the price for other bands because they're like $50. That would be a lot... if they didn't last as long as they did. The Sport Loops have surprisingly good durability for fabric bands, and the "Silicone" bands are actually made of Fluoroelastomer which is a very premium, high-durability "rubber." The Knitted Solo Loops, however... are just a small layer of fabric coating elastic wires, woven into a pattern. They're not fancy... and yet Apple charges $100. That is insane. There's a reason I only own two, and don't wear one of them, That shit is insane. The bands are comfortable, but with their durability limits and stainability... are they $100 comfortable? No. No they are not.
#7 - White Silicone Buckle Band
Tumblr media
A classic. Apple's iconic white silicone buckle band. This band has come as the default for almost every silver aluminum Apple Watch there is (up until recently). This band came with my Series 4 Watch, and I still have it. It's a classic. The white color is a bit boring, but it is Silicone, so at least it's easy to clean and stain-resistant. Overall this band has the same shortcomings of other silicone bands: not breathable and gets kinda nasty quickly, but that's about it. It's placing #7 not because it's bad, but because there's simply bands I like more. It's a good "average" band, so it's a shame is has to place at #7.
#6 - (Product) Red Silicone Buckle Band
Tumblr media
Another classic. Apple's iconic silicone buckle design with their also iconic Product Red collaboration. In addition to this band's beautiful vivid red coloring, a portion of its proceeds go to the Product Red foundation which donates to vaccinate people in third-world countries from HIV/AIDS. Its shortcomings are the same as its predecessor (gets nasty fast and not breathable), but it's, again, a good "average" band with a small bonus of a beautiful color and putting some of your $50 towards a good cause.
#5 - Silver Stainless Steel Milanese Loop Band
Tumblr media
This is the only non-Solo Loop band I have that costs $100. Unlike the Knitted Solo Loops, however, this band feels its price. It's absolutely stunning, and the chain mail-like mesh of stainless steel loops is beautiful. The magnetic "latch" on this is so seamless. I only wear this watch band for special occasions when I'm dressing up, but I can't imagine the durability would be bad on this. It's stainless steel, for fuck's sake. Overall, I have zero qualms about the design of this band. It's simply elegant and beautiful. It is placed #5 because I simply have bands I favor more. Also, the stainless steel construction makes this band slightly uncomfortable to wear. The chain mail loops will pinch and rip out any arm hairs you have, and part where the magnet is can uncomfortable dig in and scratch your arm. Also, while not factored into my rating, it is a concern: This is the fancier version of the Sport Loop band. However, unlike the Sport Loop band which cannot have it's band removed from the bottom connector on the watch, this band can. It's actually surprisingly easy. Therefore, if you were careless when taking off/putting on this band, there is a non-zero chance that the Milanese mesh could slip out of the lower hardware, which would mean the tiny lower hardware could easily get lot, rendering your $100 Watch band useless. It's not that big of a deal, but still something to watch out for.
#4 - 2019 Pride Sport Loop Band
Tumblr media
After a three-band break, we finally return to my Pride Collection. This band ranks highly for all of the pluses of the Sport Loop design: It's comfortable, with surprisingly durability for a fabric band. While the lighter colors can stain, I've never had too bad of an issue with it on this band. This band was my first experience with Apple's Sport Loop Bands, and after wearing the Nylon Buckle Band for a year, this one finally taught me that fabric bands don't have to be torturous. The red plastic hardware on this band is peculiar, but in an interesting way. Overall, this band has all the pros and cons as every other Sport Loop band, with the subtraction of staining and the addition of one thing: Colors. The Pride flag is simple. It's beautiful. As we've establish... Apple isn't the best are taking the colors of the Pride flag and making something inspired by them. This band, while not terrible by a long shot, is too red. This band's color story is the equivalent of the section of the alphabet that goes "LMNOP" that people always blast through. There are 8 stripes on this band... and 5 of them are warm-toned. Plus the red plastic hardware on the ends of the band. The dual tone reds and yellows were simply a choice I disagree with. I'm also not fond of the green being more of a lime, and the blue more of a cyan. The colors could be worse, but I feel like this band would be simply perfect is Apple had just left the Pride flag's colors alone.
#3 - 2020 Pride Silicone Buckle Band
Tumblr media
Speaking of leaving the pride flag alone, Apple finally got the memo (before losing it again in 2021) in 2020. The 2020 Apple Watch band (as well as it's 2020 Nike Pride band which I don't have) were peak Apple Watch Pride design. This is my final and favorite Pride band. Despite it's shortcomings are a silicone band... it makes up for everything else by being absolutely perfect. The colors are simple, yet they're somehow invigorated by that pastel hue over them. The Pride message is simple and obvious without being overthought. This is a Pride band. Plain and simple... However... things aren't as simple as they seem. Do you see the slight waviness of the lines where the color meet? That isn't photo compress weirdness or a poor concept render. Those are actually on the Watch band. Why? In addition to being a cool design element that adds some excitement to the band, those bands also signify something more: This is the only Apple Watch Silicone Buckle Band to be made of 100% recycled Apple Watch bands. Each color you see on this band was once apart of a single-color band which Apple cut up and spliced together to made this Limited Edition Pride band. The band itself is perfect. The design is perfect. The construction is perfect, and the story is perfect. This was my #2 favorite for a long time, only being dethroned recently. The new Pride Silicone Buckle band is a far cry from the perfection that the 2020 Pride band embodied.
#2 - Cloud Blue Sport Loop Band
Tumblr media
This is my newest band. With my Series 4 finally not getting updates anymore, for Christmas 2024, I splurged and finally upgraded to a Series 10. Wanting a carbon neutral spec one, I was left with the fabric bands. I was also stuck with the default configurations since I got the thing off Amazon for $90 off during Black Friday. I'm not complaining, though. Specifically because I love the Sport Loop Band, and I love Apple's Cloud Blue color. I am obsessed with this borderline white pastel blue. It's beautiful on this band, and it's beautiful on the (knockoff) Apple Silicone phone case that I have. Cloud Blue is by far my favorite Color Apple has ever released on their official accessories. While I do have concerns about the color in the future, in-person, the Blue is just gray enough that I think it might be able to hide staining and discoloration over time. This band has all the usual pros and cons of Sport Loop bands, but it's in one of my favorite Apple colors. The pros of the Sport Loop plus the Cloud Blue color (plus some recency bias) put this beautiful band at #2 for catching my eye and matching my watch band with my phone case.
#1 - Black Unity Knitted Solo Loop
Tumblr media
At the top of the list is my other Knitted Solo Band: Apple's Black Unity one. This band overcomes (almost) all of the shortcomings of the Pride 2021 Knitted Solo Loop. These combined with perfect comfort that the Solo bands have rockets this band to #1. I wore this band for years before I got my Series 10 and started using the #2 band. Everything about his band is perfection. The design is simply yet beautiful. The black is darker than Apple's regular black Knitted Solo Band, and the flecks of color create a starry night vibe. The color prevents the band from being too boring, while the simplicity of the black keeps it grounded. The dark color also hides stains and discoloration perfectly. I've never discolored this band after years of wear. The only flaw in this band is its durability. I've worn this band for so long that on the underside (where my wrist lays on my desk) the fabric coating of the elastic wires has started to wear away and reveal the clear elastic underneath. For $100 I expect better, but multiple years isn't too bad either. If I ever start staining the #2 band and want to stop wearing it, the Black Unity Knitted Solo Loop will be the one I go back to. I love this band, and it's the only one I've worn out and actually considered replacing with another one of itself. The comfort, the practicality, the design is all perfect. I love this band, and I'd say it's probably the Knitted Solo Band since it's probably the most resistant to staining and discoloration. 10/10. I love this band, and I'm sad it's starting to wear out.

On this day…Lt. Col. Robert G. "Gray" Sowers on Thursday morning, January 11, 1968.
He was flying with 39-year-old Capt. David E. Fruehauf on his third flight in the Blackbird. The Blackbird would be flying under the radio callsign of “Aspen 21. Fruehauf was a native of Buffalo, New York, and had over 2,000 flight hours logged.
The pair briefed the flight plan, inspected the plane, and took off from Beale at 12:35 in the afternoon on what was planned to be a four hour flight.
A gentle left turn was then made to a heading of 280 degrees for a couple of minutes, followed by another left turn to 196 degrees and a descent into a refueling area near Lakeview VORTAC. But as the second turn was being prepped for, the left engine’s generator failed, some 37 minutes after the flight began.
SR-71 route "Busy Police #3" - UNCLASSIFIEDSowers and Fruehauf went to the emergency procedures checklist and accomplished the appropriate items. Sowers instructed Fruehauf to manually turn south towards Beale while he initiated a change to the astro-inertial navigation system to provide course
Sowers and Fruehauf continued straight ahead on the established course, maintaining their altitude with the existing engine throttle settings. They minimized all electrical requirements to conserve battery power.
About fifteen miles after the second generator failed, Aspen 21 began a shallow descent with both throttles slightly retarded and passed over Oroville, California, about 25 nautical miles north of Beale, at an altitude of roughly 10,000 feet.
A few moments later, the landing gear was lowered, causing the plane to slow to the needed 175-knots airspeed. This caused the plane’s nose to raise and created an angle of attack – the difference between the plane’s direction of travel and the mean chord line of its wings – of 10 degrees. The fuel shifted in the tanks to cause air to be sucked into the fuel boost pumps. The cavitated fuel flow forced the right engine began to lose power and flame out.
Out of Options...GET OUT!
But, being a unique, B-model, SR-71 posed a unique situation. In an ejection from a stock SR-71A, the Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO) in the back seat will eject first, followed shortly thereafter by the pilot. In the trainers, there is no RSO; the instructor sits in the back seat.
At 3,000 feet and some 8 miles from Beale AFB, Fruehauf complied with Sowers’ order and ejected. An instant later, Sowers followed his student into the sky via a Lockheed SR-1 ejection seat. After landing on the ground and removing his helmet and survival kit, Fruehauf found Sowers already on the ground, smoking a cigarette. My Dad told me that during test flight before they had to wear pressure suits that Gray used to smoke cigarettes in the cockpit but good for him he lived to be 92 go figure.😀both men were fine after the ejection and went on to have second careers. the result of the crash of 957 was that half of the trainer SR-71’s were now gone. SR 71 trainer the “C” model was later manufactured.
”Capt. David E. Fruehauf Fruehauf continued in the Air Force and eventually retired, settling in central Tennessee. In 2017, he was featured in a television commercial from Jack Daniels, showcasing residents of Lynchburg, Tennessee, as a resident who once “ejected from a SR-71 Blackbird and lived to tell about it.“ He can be spotted at the 0:28 mark, and aired during Super Bowl
Robert “Gray” Sowers retired from the Air Force, and became was the chief pilot for the country singer, Charlie Pride for 15 years. He saved the lives of all the band members by landing their critically damaged plane following a mid air collision caused by another plane.
Sowers died on December 1st, 2018, at his home in Tucson, Arizona. He was 92 years old. my Dad, Richard “Butch” Sheffield was crewed with Sowers at the very beginning of the SR 71 program in 1966. My Dad died eight days after his good friend Gray did.~Linda Sheffield Miller

a timeline of rabbits, according to my own headcanons and extensive viewing of every spg video on youtube ever. mostly done for my own reference, but i'm always open to infodumping about timeline stuff, so details and explanations of each design below the cut!
1896: this design was taken from the comic, red core specifically.
1950: referenced from various 2008-2012 makeup designs. the ponytail was taken from older art on bunny's deviantart. she has green eyes to match with the spine as his twin.
rabbit's core explodes in 1950, splitting the timeline between prime (our universe) and omega (a parallel universe where spg stopped making music in 2009)
prime 2012: our own rabbit, complete with her red bandana. after giving one of her eyes to the suspender man, she has one blue eye. she decorates and paints her oxidation as artistic expression.
prime 2014: new to her physical transition and filled with conflicting feelings about what it means to be "human," rabbit decides to lean into her namesake and designs herself a bunny ear headpiece.
prime 2015: she chooses to look more human after all, and chooses a black wig that she plays around with dying different colors.
prime 2016: the bunny ears are back, and she's upgraded to impossium plating for most of her outer panels. she picks a dark pink as her (mostly) permanent wig color.
omega 2012: after her core explosion, this rabbit loses the majority of her blue matter and her creativity leaves with it. no longer able to play music or create art, she doesn't take part in the band her siblings form in 2008. they quickly fizzle out without her spark there. in 2012, she still has her dark hair and her oxidation is allowed to spread freely, because she can't paint it herself.
omega 2014: new to her physical transition, rabbit decides to simply swap around some plating and chooses a longer wig. she doesn't have the same thoughts as prime rabbit concerning humanity, and no creativity to design a cool bunny ear headpiece.
omega 2018: after a visit from her prime counterpart in 2017, omega rabbit feels her spark returning. she chooses to build her new model to resemble her prime self. instead of pink, she chooses blue hair, filled with pride that her blue matter is replenished and she can play music again.

i know i already posted this but, i finished and the ending is important.
so the first paragraph is biography. second is the good things hes already done and the third is what he can do better...i hope im not judge by what i finished with.
Wilbur Soot is an english musician and Minecraft Youtuber/Streamer. Popular for his part in the “Dream smp” and his position in the indie rock band “Lovejoy”, With 1,622,433 Followers and 1,212,540 monthly listeners on spotify. But before that, he had his own channel of music, was a former member of a channel called “Soot House”, and is the creator of the infamous “Editor Wilbur ARG”. It was Wilbur's presence as Lead editor and Co-Founder in 2017 in the comedy channel “Soot House” that began his rise to fame. His music career started in 2018, writing comedy songs, his first EP in 2019 being 13 minutes (four tracks/songs) long called “Maybe I was Boring”. The most impactful thing(s) Wilbur has done, would be in my opinion, His release of “Your City Gave Me Asthma” and supporting and creating several Fundraisers for multiple occasions and events. The main Fundraisers would be Stand Up To Cancer, The Sarcoma Foundation of America, and The WilburSoot Pride Fundraiser. These fundraisers are now over, having been able to successfully raise and distribute the money to those in need. “Jubilee Line” from the album “Your City Gave Me Asthma” is about all the pollution in the London underground transit system and how many take their lives and are ignored by the many commuters. He said in a Twitch stream once, “after experiencing people take their lives on the London underground only to receive disgruntled groans by commuters who will now be late for whatever it is they’re going to, one becomes quite jaded to the human condition in general. I guess this last line was me putting blame on the city rather than those commuters or the poor people who committed suicide.”
For things he can do better, is just be himself. I feel like he has provided enough and to want more from someone like himself, it would be selfish.  He already makes so many people smile, his music makes so many people happy, he’s donated to so many causes, why would we ask for more? We know nothing of how fame affects him, of how he feels… and by not asking more, we are respecting him. Grade me what you may, but I stand by what I believe.

Billy Strings Live Show Review: 5/24, Allstate Arena, Rosemont
Tumblr media
From left to right: Jarrod Walker, Royal Masat, Billy Strings, Billy Failing, Alex Hargreaves
BY JORDAN MAINZER
I would have been shocked to see the Allstate Arena full for some traditional bluegrass music. I wasn't surprised one lick to see it packed to the brim for Billy Strings. The prodigious guitar player competes in the bluegrass category at the Grammys--perhaps an American Roots nod here or a Country nod there, depending on the song and whether he's collaborating with anybody--but his brand of old-time string music is something more progressive and modern than what you associate with bluegrass. Not to say he doesn't have chops: If there was every anybody raised to appreciated music of the Appalachians, it's Strings, whose mother married amateur bluegrass musician Terry Barber when Strings was two years old. It was Barber who showed strings the likes of Bill Monroe and Doc Watson. Yet, it was Strings himself, a child of the early Internet age, who discovered rock and metal. Though his recorded music isn't loud, and his live performances aren't necessarily heavy, they exude the raw spirit of bluegrass, the virtuosity of rock and roll, and the jaw-dropping skill of both.
Tumblr media
Walker, Masat, Strings, Failing, & Hargreaves
Having never seen Strings before, I didn't know what to expect last Friday at Allstate Arena. Walking in and scanning the tie dye-laden fans, it was clear he had a diehard following with a definite overlap with jam band culture. When he and his band took the stage (mandolinist Jarrod Walker, bassist Royal Masat, banjoist Billy Failing, fiddler Alex Hargreaves), I immediately understood why. Their performance of "Fire Line", a standout cut from 2017's Turmoil & Tinfoil, started out expected enough, Strings' breathtaking picking leading the way, but quickly gave way to something almost resembling improvisational jazz, with fiddle solos and guitar plucks sprinkled between the rhythms. Strings then put his complex pedal board to work to make his acoustic guitar distort like an electric guitar, a clear distinction from earlier in the song where he made it sound like, well, a banjo. That is, this was more Pink Floyd than Earl Scruggs.
Tumblr media
Walker, Masat, Strings, Failing, & Hargreaves
And in the same way a few of the non-aggressive electronic music heads have embraced the loose ends of the Grateful Dead and Phish, I could see why they, too, might appreciate a Billy Strings concert. The way Strings intertwines traditional tunes and covers within his original material, often segueing between songs, is akin to a DJ set. During "Long Forgotten Dream", a highlight from Strings' 2019 breakout album Home, at one point, after a long period of ambiance with Strings' subtle guitars wincing above the mostly quiet band, the song's main refrain returned to flashing rainbow lights, the crowd going nuts like the beat had just dropped. Of course, Strings and his band are much more fun to watch than a DJ: Call me crazy, but at one point during a cover of Failing's "So Many Miles", he was picking so fast it looked like there was wind blowing his red mane.
Tumblr media
Walker, Masat, Strings, Failing, Hargreaves, & Terry Barber
And for those bluegrass traditionalists, Friday treated them to an encore of Barber himself coming out to join the band, huddled around a microphone, to cover a couple Monroe classics and, fittingly, Charley Pride's "On the Southbound". "Well I woke up this morning when the cold Chicago wind / Blew my newspaper blanket off my back," sang Strings, of course hoping for that thing to happen where you name the city you're playing in or near and the crowd cheers. It didn't matter not only because the crowd was cheering anyway, but because many of them were already avid Strings followers, along for the journey from city to city, from song to song.

— Tamino for De Limburger, May 2017 (x) (Original Dutch text)
The new sweetheart of Flanders
ANTWERP BY KIM NOACH
The 20-year-old singer-songwriter Tamino is conquering musical hearts in his homeland Belgium in record time. Performances at Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop and his first EP rocket to the top position of iTunes. The talent can be heard on Sunday at Mama's Pride in Geleen.
My dear, Tamino sings to you in his high falsetto, grant me one last dance…Dear, please, I'm on fire…With these words singer-songwriter Tamino sings in his debut single Habibi (Arabic for sweetheart) directly to the hearts of music lovers in Belgium.
With the song, Tamino's musical career took off in record time last year: sold-out performances in the small hall of pop temple AB Brussels, a prestigious Belgian pop award lands on his mantelpiece and this festival season, performances at Rock Werchter and Pukkelpop will follow, among others. The Netherlands is also about to be conquered. But judge for yourself on Sunday with a first introduction at Mama's Pride in Geleen. The success of the young singer certainly has to do with his special voice. Seemingly effortlessly, he switches from a deep crooner's moan to a towering falsetto. This vocal cord acrobatics earned him the predicate 'the Belgian Jeff Buckley'. But comparisons with Elliott Smith and Radiohead singer Thom Yorke have also been made by pop connoisseurs. Big shoes to fill for an up-and-coming talent of just 20 years old. Tamino remains calm about it. Having just finished a mini-concert in Antwerp, he says - in a Flemish modest way - that he is especially flattered when fans compare him to big names in the music business. But in the end he wants to be Tamino above all. And just sing his songs. What does the public do with that? Well, who is he to say anything about that?
To melt His songs are beautiful listening songs with guitar that Tamino (partly) composed from his Amsterdam room last year. He follows a course at the conservatory in the capital. He has temporarily stopped his studies in order to be able to attend all performances and interviews. “Very strange,” he says when it comes to his ever-growing popularity. “I don't fully understand it yet. It would be nice if I could live off my music at some point. That is not self-evident for every artist.”
To melt With his dark curls, full eyelashes, 'pirate' earring and shy smile, singer-songwriter Tamino is sure to melt many hearts. His looks are the result of his Belgian mother and his Egyptian father. His Belgian mother named her son after Prince Tamino from Mozart's opera Die Zauberflöte.
It is the Arabic roots that also influence him musically, as can be heard in some melody lines on his nameless EP. And at home he not only plucks the guitar, but also the oud, the Arabic lute, and listens to Egyptian music. This in combination with Western music by Thom Yorke, Eels, but also Soundgarden and the Belgian noise band Steak Number Eight. What does he hope for next Sunday? "Come on..." There's a pause.
"That I am able to give everything and people know how to appreciate it."

Page 226-227
[Page 226 has a photograph of Eddie and Steve with text next to it. They’re in a cozy living room on a couch together. Eddie is sprawled against over the couch, arms thrown over the back. Eddie still has his long hair, now streaked with gray, his laugh lines are permanent and he smiles easily. His style is much the same, he has a cut off band shirt and black jeans with chains, his arms filled with bracelets. Steve is leaning against his side with a soft smile. Steve is wearing a big sweater and glasses, which had become necessary in his 30s. His hair is shorter now and he dyes it, highlights throughout.]
Eddie & Steve Munson
Jonathan Byers, 2017
.
Eddie and Steve are both retired, though Eddie still appears on talk shows and sometimes plays with Corroded Coffin. They share their house with Robin and Rose as well as the many kids they foster. Steve has always wanted a big family and Eddie spend some time in the system. Kids of their own weren’t in the cards, but they have found their own way. The two are the last stop for many before they age out of the system. Eddie and Steve pride themselves on giving them a good start for the rest of their lives, many of them staying until they can support themselves.
.
[On Page 227 is a photograph of Robin and Rose in the same room as that of Eddie and Steve with text next to it. Robin now has an undercut and her hair is bright green as she grins brightly into the camera as she holds Rose close. Rose is still a fat lady in a beautiful floral dress. Her long red hair is up in a ponytail and she has an elaborate flower themed make up look on. Robin’s patterned button up matches Rose’s dress and is loosely tucked into light gray dress pants which are held up by suspenders.]
Robin & Rose Munson
Jonathan Byers, 2017
.
Robin works as a linguist, translating books, while Rose works as a librarian. They help Eddie and Steve with the kids, but mostly occupy an aunt like function in their lives. The two of them mostly use their spare time to travel the world or drown in the work of their garden. Their kale is a hit at the local farmers market and they are prominent figures in the local community. Along with Eddie and Steve, they volunteer at the local shelter and help host queer events.

headcanon stuff, categorised, (some) to be expanded.
GENERAL:
shoes? begone. but you knew this, it's one of the quick ways to identify mtn
he smokes weed lol
mtn has his own plant that he grows for personal reasons. he doesn't share. also good luck finding it lmao he hid it well
sober vs high mtn is hard to distinguish. the only tells are a few more stifled laughs than his usual (very occasional) ones, more intense munchies, and bloodshot eyes in human form
he also has a garden that he works on and maintains
that garden is his pride and joy and he will not have your shenanigans in there, you try it and this 8'9 monstrosity will toss you out like a ragdoll
some of his plants have names.
he can and has killed. he's a ghoul bro, what do you want from him
^ clarification: he almost only kills in self-defence. and protecting his cryptid identity to outsiders of the ministry
his adhd is mostly in the form of object permanence; sometimes he just forgets where he puts things, and especially if they aren't in their usual designated spot. he also tends to hyperfocus on the things he likes the most - aka drumming, gardening, and cooking. he doesn't mean to ignore you, he's just wrapped up in his hobbies
he's not easy to anger. he's very, aha, grounded. he gets a tad irritated if you mess with his stuff (stop messing with his cymbals smh) but he doesn't snap - it's more like an eye roll before he swats you away
since he didn't really join the band until roughly may-june 2017 (after ivy had filled the gap between pebble and mountain), mtn had plenty of time to just. hone his skills. since he was always going to be drummer, he'd practice whenever he was free
(he also knows guitar, but he much prefers drums)
RITUALS / STAGE PRESENCE:
oh, you think he is not one to join in shenanigans? he is. it doesn't take much encouragement from swiss and sodo (and sometimes the other ghouls) for him to tag along with them, like in the sweet home alabama moment
on tour, mtn makes the band some sandwiches so they can get a bit of energy back in their post-rituals. they're not anything fancy but food is food
mtn always has, like, 3 bottles of water when they're on-stage. he loses a lot of water because he's drenched in sweat by the end
after some time being in the band, mtn has learned that he should not be yeeting his drumsticks at terminal velocity to the crowd at the end, lest he get someone hurt. he knows better now. he only tosses them when he wants to get one further away from the barricade
mtn doesn't go out of his way to be the centre of attention, and doesn't mind being in his drumkit cage for the majority of a ritual. that being said...
when he IS the centre of attention, he makes the most of it. those drums are getting an absolute beating with a solo and he'll make it known why he's the drummer for the band
IN THE MINISTRY:
he's a PHENOMENAL cook and i won't take criticism on this
when he's making a meal for himself, it varies between a restaurant quality meal complete with a side dish... or a sandwich. depends on his effort
he rarely goes out of his way to do this for others
he's definitely not head chef or anything, but he's a valuable addition in the kitchen because he strives for perfectionism. the food must be done Just Right. he's also probably one of the best people to ask if you have specific requirements, just make sure he writes it down
mtn has a sorta menace metre that fills the more he has to act responsible for the other ghouls. it eases during rituals because he can be a little chaotic on-stage, but if he's at the ministry for extended periods, it's a ticking time bomb. once it's filled, don't be surprised to see this cryptid hunched over at the end of a hallway with eyes glowing and haunting any of the sisters that come past
(sometimes the cardinals / papas too)
he used to spook a lot of kids when he first joined the ministry (especially when he wasn't in his more humanoid form), but they soon learned that he's not that scary when you get to know him
