to the adult person that reblogged this saying that white phosphorus is relatively harmless... while it can be a smoke screen what sets it apart from other smoke screen mixtures like CSA and HC is that it is explicitly an incendiary. it's not even classified a chemical weapon (under the CWC); it is an incendiary munition. white phosphorus can also be coated with protective layers and exist in soil and water as contaminants. not only that but it's being released in residential and civilian areas across gaza and southern lebanon, not in the field as a smoke screen.

according to Wael Al-Dahdouh from Al Jazeera (sourced from this twt thread) Israel is bombing the areas of Zaitoun and Tal al-Hawa. They are targeting residential buildings in heavily populated neighbourhoods using white phosphorus bombs. (not quoted because i don't know if this is a quote or is paraphrased.)

this isn't just about white phosphorus. they're being bombed and tortured and murdered for god's sake but if you want to see for yourself the effects of wp specifically then look into "fajullah white phosphorus" from iraq in 2004 and see the countless injuries and birth defects over generations (trigger warning for horrific and gorey images.)

use your head, and continue to disagree if you want, but it's about the genocide in general. continue to spread information. im not discouraging people from having doubts or wanting to fact check but for the love of god do not generalise things like this. this is in no way in attack of the person, i do not know you or what you think nor do i particularly care to. i just wanted to give my input.

i don't think people understand the extent of the horror happening in palestine right now. "death" means nothing to people because of desensitisation so let me just tell you what white phosphorus is. it's being used in israeli munitions and has been and will continue to be fired across gaza and the palestinian borders.

white phosphorus burns when it comes into contact with oxygen (at nearly 800°C or 1500°F. the human body can withstand ~50°C for reference.) the air you breathe in ignites and it is near impossible extinguish. it sticks to clothing and skin and is very difficult to remove because it will continue to ignite in air. it burns flesh up to the bone and even past the bone because it penetrates tissue and is absorbed VERY easily. if you inhale it it'll destroy your respiratory tract and lungs. it can cause failure in multiple organs including the liver, kidneys and heart. it is being released in one of the most densely populated places on earth.

the only way to treat someone exposed to white phosphorus is to submerge them in saline or water and to pick out the substance with forceps, and when you undress a wound the substance can re-ignite. this is just ONE weapon that is being used to kill palestinian people right now. palestine does not have access to medical care, humanitarian aid, power, or internet. their hospitals are being bombed. gaza is one of the most densely populated places in the world with over 50% of the population being children. many children are the sole survivors of their families. there are videos of children experiencing panic attacks and symptoms of ptsd. the fact that israel has committed war crimes in plain sight means that we can only imagine what will happen to the palestinians in complete darkness.

israel has and will continue to deny this. your interests and fandom will still be here, you will wake up tomorrow morning and see your friends and family, but an entire nation of people are being wiped off the map. being silent is being complacent. reblog, spread information, tell people in real life, attend protests, sign petitions, call your government offices, at the very least be angry and upset and horrified because once you become numb and indifferent and hopeless the oppressors will have already won.

what's happening right now is more than a genocide and once it becomes a part of history we'll wonder how the world let this happen. genocides have been part of all nations. just because it is far away does not mean you don't have to be concerned. the fact that YOUR governments and YOUR idols and the people around YOU are supporting the mass eradication of an entire group of people should scare you. it shouldn't make you feel anything less than sick and angry and disgusted. DO something about it, no matter how small you feel your voice is, because palestinians no longer have one.

How to leave job without upsetting employer?

Quick story time: So! A few years ago my financial situation wasn't the best, and I had been recently traded away to a different atom, so I was really in need of a job! I would have taken practically anything if it paid decently. One very dodgy interview later, and I had landed myself a job- unfortunately, as I should have gathered from the interview, my employer was full of absolute shit.

Not going into any details as to how full of shit they were, but it should be saying enough if I'm asking for advice on how to resign from my job without making my employer go ballistic. Working with my employer's taken a big toll on my mental state and I fear that if I stay a moment longer I'm going to be charged for murder.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

I feel like I haven’t seen anything about what’s happening in Bangladesh within my circle of tumblr so a little geography for everyone!! Disclaimer i am not the most educated this is mostly what I’ve heard from family and different news sources please do do your own research as well!!

Summary: There was an internet blackout orchestrated by the government as a result of student protests (peaceful protests might I add) these protests were met with brutality over 200 lives lost (officially) and over 20000 injured

Why are they protesting?

30% of government jobs (some of the most high paying and sought after jobs in bangladesh) are reserved for relatives of people who fought in 1971 (when they fought for independence)

Why is this a problem?

The way of deciding whether you are in this bracket or not is very corrupt, students can work as hard as possible yet once they graduate there is a limited number of jobs to apply to. Spots they worked towards are essentially reserved despite the efforts put in.

What happened as a result of the protests?

Injustice to put it short. Student protesters were attacked and beaten taking lives and injuring others. Students are also being attacked within university halls and dorms. On top of this there was a nationwide internet blackout which cut off peoples communication to family abroad, which also limited news coverage. For a country like Bangladesh it wouldn’t be unheard of for something like this to not reach many areas of the world but the blackout is just contributing to it

What’s happening now?

As of now and my knowledge internet is back up however social media is limited without a VPN. Given the age range affected social media would be their way of speaking out.

It’s terrifying how much is going in to silence a groups fight for freedom in the name of “honouring” veterans. Parents and relatives have spent so much into putting their children into good education yet the government isn’t even giving them the opportunity to try.

More than 20,000 murdered, more than 50,000 injured, majority of homes destroyed, hospitals turned into mass graves, mosques and ancient churches bombed, universities and schools destroyed… after 80 days. I don’t want to imagine what this becomes if weeks of this turn to years.

20000 is the number of the Gazan Health Ministry. Because of the weapon used, the way they are used and the fact that many shouhada cannot be identified or are still under the rubbles, because the health care system collapsed… for all those reasons military experts think the number is way higher. Over a month ago military experts were saying between 20000 and 30000 Palestinian were killed and they explained that the weapon used makes 4 times as many wounded. The total estimation of shouhada and wounded people a month ago was therefore almost double of the current official number. So I’m expecting the final number to be so much more horrible than what we are hearing now…

That being said I refuse to lose hope. I will always mourn for the shouhada (Allah yarhmoum) but I am convinced that Palestine will be free in our lifetime. I refuse to believe otherwise. I just hope it will happen soon and the number of shouhada won’t keep growing.
