Tobias and his Lovely Ladies

I'm super excited to share my first-ever commissioned fanart! Made by the incredibly talented and sweet @/artbyainna on Instagram. I love how Tobias goes from being a lady's man in one way to a lady's man in quite another in my HC for the couple. And I love how much happier he is with the latter. This is not meant to be received as an anonymous hate message. My deepest apologies if this hurts your feelings, but since your fellow Open Heart fandom friends won’t be honest with you, I felt I should help you out the way I would want someone to help me.

We see you, Jerz. I promise we know you exist. You’ve got our attention. You are so obnoxiously showy, how can we not? And no one seems to have the heart to tell you this.

Your desperation to be acknowledged and seen by others is worrisome. You post when you wake up; you post when you add a word to your work; you advertise for your series “Delaying the Inevitable” morning, noon, night. Jerz, it’s a bit much. No one walks around, talking about how great they are or how great their accomplishments are the way you do. That might not be your intention, but when you post things, like your most recent post about your Asks and how many requests you have, this is seen as gloating. I don’t know if you realize this, but when you post things like that, you might as well construct a giant neon sign that says, “Look at me! I am so popular!”

I’ve watched you for a few months now, and I know you and your friends are going to accuse me of jealousy. I’m not, but I understand why you would see me that way. But honestly, not many people would idolize someone who is tactless, brash, and selfish. This is how you come across to a lot of people. You might actually be a wonderful person. I would never know because you seem quite self-absorbed and a braggart. Are you familiar with the term “one-upper?”

I am going to give credit where credit is due: you have hustled your ass off and went straight for the jugular, making sure everyone knew your presence is valuable, including the more higher-rated writers. You can’t comment or reblog anything without marketing yourself and your own work. You clearly are your number 1 fan, and I think that’s great that you have so much confidence in yourself.

You’re probably thinking “What’s the point of this message?” Seriously congratulations to growing number of readers and your fans; congratulations on having such a high view of yourself; congratulations on networkinging with such confidence and zero Fs.

But this honest thirst to be the center of attention, I promise we see you, Jerz. We know you’re there. And how could we not? We know you are going to have the last word. We know that you are going to comment on any post related to Open Heart, especially if it’s about a thirst trap concerning Ethan or Tobias. You post every time you wake up, or when inspiration strikes, or when a certain food or song or movie reminds you of your couples.

You don’t have to share everything. This is not meant to be hateful, but I hope you become more aware of your actions so you can become a better person.

And I already know what you are going to say. I will unfollow. I truly enjoyed your stories.

I’ve sat on this. I wasn’t going to share because I want my blog to be a positive place. Plus, everyone has people who dislike them, so why give my haters porn? But, in the end, I need to say a few things (“getting the last word” Nonny?) and it’s important for people to know that such small and cowardly people lurk among us.

You admit you don’t know me, yet you sure act as if you do. I’m not quite sure how that works.

I am passionate. If I love something, I am enthusiastic to a fault and I give it my all, and I love our fandom. I love creating content, I love reading others’ works and building them up and, no, Nonny, when commenting or reblogging I don’t “always self-promote”. Sometimes I will discuss my work if it is relevant, usually with people I consider friends. I did find one reblog from the past week that some may have misconstrued. I deleted it and reached out to the author to apologize. I have not heard back from her, but I hope she understands there was no mal intent. I wouldn’t have batted an eyelash if she had done the same thing to me.

I am pretty self-aware. I know I can be annoying. I’m zealous and I overshare. There are personal reasons for that, but it’s who I am. Friends who do know me laughed at your assertations. They know I’m my own worst critic, I’m full of self-doubt, and I deal with crippling anxiety. They also know that being part of this “supportive” (for the most part) community has helped me. How kind of you to attempt to thwart that. What you know about me is nothing and your belief that you do speaks volumes to how highly you think of yourself. Isn’t that what you’re accusing me of?

Like every writer, I want people to read my work, and I love engaging with readers. But networking? Convincing “higher-rated writers” to like me? Girl, stop. This isn’t my job. I don’t get paid for this. This is fanfiction. It’s fun! Dear God, do you take it that seriously? Yes, I’ve become friends with people. People behind popular and small blogs, people who are readers. I assure you that building these friendships had nothing to do with networking. We got to know each other, like and care for each other, and we’ve been there to support each other when we need it most. It looks like some people find me likable, and I know how to be a friend. If you struggle with that, I suggest you look for the reason instead of attacking me.

You state you have “watched me for a few months now.” Yet my behavior is worrisome? It seems my post apologizing for having so many outstanding anons triggered you. You assumed I was trying to say “look at me I’m so popular”. I had to laugh. First off, popular? Look at my note count, it’s nothing to be jealous of. I posted it because the majority of requests sitting in my inbox are anons that I can’t reach out to personally or I would. My readers REALLY matter to me, and I don’t want anyone to think they’ve been forgotten. The fact that your mind goes to such a horrible place, about an admitted stranger, is pathetic. It speaks to who you are, not me.

Look, I’m not everyone’s cup of tea… and that’s OK. I’m sure you’re not either. That’s life. But you send this hate, and to be clear, it is hate, thinking you’re a better person? What have I done to hurt anyone in this fandom? Tell me. I’ll wait. I’ve never done anything as vile as you. Do you feel you can sit in judgment of me? That you have the moral superiority to tell me to be a better person when your actions already show what kind of person you are? The irony! If anyone needs reflection, it’s you.

I strongly suggest you think twice before doing something like this to anyone else in the future. I have been through enough in my life to let this roll off my back, but not everyone can. Some people could be terribly hurt, or harm themselves if they received something like this. Dear God, examine yourself.

Any of this feel like Orym’s guard background coming into play? The “We all have to be ready to kill another of us” isn’t an exact scan to “we all have to be ready to die to protect the one person”, but I think there’s some sort of corollary. Typically found family shit is more of a “we’ll all die rather than hurt each other” (except one or two that are willing to do what has to be done and all that) but like, guards have to be ready to die at any time. Orym said it himself, he went into his marriage “eyes open” about the possibility of dying on the job, about having to accept the reality that he very likely might lose his husband, and then he DID. Having another attack on his family- Orym is ready to lose the people he loves to do his job.

I could write for hours about this but I’ll make it quick, why haven’t I seen ANYONE tallking about the music in Goncharov?? we all know the clock symbolism but when you realize that Goncharov’s leitmotif is literally the ticking of a clock going from a major key to a minor key, you realize just how insane it all is. It nevers stops, always ending up in a minor, always counting down towards doom, inescapable, just like his fate and the fate of everyone around him

After my last post, it has come to my attention that I need to read Holes again. I remember enjoying it immensely, and it has such a fantastic (albeit strange) plot. I will definitely start after this weekend.

The Riddler likely wouldn’t see his father under the effects of scarecrows fear toxin

I always see in fan fiction where the riddler is under the effects of fear toxin he always sees his dad. Which to me is kinda overplayed and bland. I don’t think the riddler is scared of his dad, sure he hates him but he isn’t scared of him.

Edward is insanely selfish so I don’t even think he would really see anything, his world relies entirely on himself. Of course he has childhood trauma but it is very unlikely he would be scared of it. He is more likely angry about it.

I instead feel like his fears rely more on not being seen. He wants the attention he lacked from his childhood. He is constantly chasing a rush of adrenaline and the thrill of a game. Under the effects of fear toxin it would likely be a nightmare of not having anyone able to see him, akin to a ghost. Or quite literally nothing. Being trapped in a black void, no games no puzzles to be had. Nothing to stimulate his ever racing mind, just trapped with nobody but himself and his thoughts.

That being said Jon 100% gives Edward a taste of his toxin whenever Ed gets a bit too arrogant for his liking, just to knock him down a few pegs.

SM is definitely both genius AND insane for it lol

1) Have all members ever sang on one song?

Yes! NCT has come together three times so far to release collaborative albums with one song on each that has all members, the rest of the album is usually different NCT U groups and maybe a song from each fixed unit.

Black On Black - NCT 2018 (18 members at the time)

Resonance - NCT 2020 (23 members at the time)

Beautiful - NCT 2021 (still technically 23 members but only 21 participated in the album due to a member being on hiatus and a member filming a drama in China)

I believe we are supposed to get NCT 2023 this year. We are down to 20 members now so hopefully they will all be able to participate!

2) Does the NCT U lineup change every album or every song?

Every song! NCT U stands for NCT United. It is any combination of members from any unit that is not the regular fixed units! Here are some examples:

The 7th Sense: Taeyong (NCT 127), Ten (WayV), Doyoung (NCT 127), Jaehyun (NCT 127), and Mark (NCT 127/NCT Dream)

Baby Don’t Stop: Taeyong (NCT 127) and Ten (WayV)

Coming Home: Taeil (NCT 127), Doyoung (NCT 127), Jaehyun (NCT 127), and Haechan (NCT 127/NCT Dream)

Rain Day: Taeil (NCT 127), Kun (WayV), and Yangyang (WayV)

3) Are some members significantly less involved than others? Are some clearly in more projects than others?

Unfortunately yes. I feel like SM in general is pretty bad about favoring certain people. The number one person that came to mind for being less involved is Winwin. He has constantly gotten the short end of the stick since the very beginning. They literally used him for the teasers and concept videos before NCT even debuted, but when he debuted with NCT 127 he constantly got the least amount of lines. In 2019 he left NCT 127 and joined WayV where things got a little better but still not good. He’s still in NCT but now does a lot of solo promotions and acting and good for him honestly. Other members that come to mind for getting the short end are Taeil, Yuta, Kun, and Jungwoo.

As far as members being super involved, of course I have to talk about Mark and Haechan. Mark is known as a pro debuter. He has debuted officially FOUR times (NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and SuperM) and also has released two solo singles. Haechan is also in NCT 127/NCT Dream and has participated in NCT U. Because they’re in so many units they have pretty much worked nonstop since 2016. Like I don’t know if Mark has ever taken a break and Haechan only took a one month hiatus earlier this year due to health reasons.

4) Is wayv an nct unit like dream or 127 or does it work differently??

Yes, WayV is the Chinese subunit of NCT! They debuted with a Chinese version of NCT 127’s song Regular. They are under SM’s Chinese label, Label V, and do not have NCT in their name due to the tension between China and Korea. This way they could promote easier. But honestly nothing about their journey has been easy and SM needs to do better by them.

5) What is nct hollywood/ nct tokyo??? Are they even happening???

So NCT Hollywood and NCT Tokyo were supposed to be the next units of NCT. NCT Hollywood was supposed to be formed with a competition show, and NCT Tokyo was supposed to be NCT members Shotaro and Sungchan (members that debuted in 2020 with NCT U and then were never given fixed units), as well as three SM Rookies that were announced.

As far as I know now, NCT Hollywood isn’t happening and NCT Tokyo will be the last subunit. However people are pissed because it was announced that Shotaro and Sungchan have left NCT and will be debuting in a different boy group, the rookies won’t be a part of NCT Tokyo either, and the group will be formed by a competition show.

Long story short from most of this is that NCT and SM groups are wonderful, but SM itself has turned into a shit show that needs to get itself together and treat its idols better.

GGs Move in Schedule

Just wanna weigh in on the changes in the schedule, I see a lot of worried posts floating about. You gotta remember that to networks shows are products, they get stacked on the shelves like a supermarket does. Cheap and/or low-quality/or lesser known ones get hidden high up, or at the bottom. Expensive or well-known ones get places on eye-level, or easy to reach places. When the former starts getting more known and starts selling better, prices can go up, and its shelve-space moves to a better place as well. GG’s current slot is not one on eye-level, Sunday night at ten just isn’t. You know what is? Thursday’s at 9. That’s a huge promotion for a show. “But maybe they just try to bump the linear ratings, because it’s mid-tier now?’ It could be a component, but remember that shows are products. Networks sell commercials around certain shows, and ads cost more at 9 on Thursdays (30 seconds could cost up to 250.000 dollars, to give some perspective). It would be foolish to put a show on that slot that you don’t trust to deliver on the viewers, after all, that’s a promise you make to the people buying the ad-space. So why move? While GG’s linear ratings are decent, its streaming ratings are absolutely massive. As you can read in this article. Episode 4x01 scored ratings of 1.87 million in the 18-49 demographic (that the demographic everybody wants, it’s the most marketable) on first broadcasting. But in the following seven days it gained another 1.6 million in delayed and digital viewing, totaling it to almost 3.5 million. If you add in the digital platforms Hulu and NBC’s own platform it adds on 2 million more, getting it to 5.5 million in the first week after viewing. GG scores online the most – it has the ratings, just not solely on TV and not it it’s current slot. And let’s not forget that Good Girls dominated the Netflix streaming chart for Feb 15-21 (when the third season came on) with an astounding 1.08 billion minutes. That’s insane. It makes for a very marketable product, again. Olympics? The opening ceremony is on July 23rd, so it makes sense that the regular schedule has to be jumbled a bit with all the current shows going on. If you remember from early 2021, the initial air date for GG was supposed to be February 14th, but it got delayed to March 7th. They also had a bit of a delay in production around then, so it’s not surprising that we’re going to have 2x a double episode. After all, these schedules get planned well in advance, and the Olympics is an event we’ve known the date for for a while. The running productions like GG (or any other) could encounter some COVID-setback, pushing the schedule inwards like an accordion if they start later than intended. How about that hiatus? There’s an hiatus between May 16th and June 24th, which isn’t a surprise if you ask me. Currently Law & Order: SVU takes the Thursday slot, and it still has the finale on June 3rd, and Manifest (their lead-in) has a finale on June 10th. Maybe they want to spread that out a little? I can’t be completely sure, but I can imagine if SVU or Manifest has some production delay they might want to dam that in with a few more weeks in between? Another thing I saw is that NBC will cover a lot of golf (USGA) in May and June, which will probably be a factor in the change up in schedule as well (after all – product is purchased – the live broadcasting, so they have to broadcast it when it’s scheduled to). Honestly, I’m pretty excited about the move. Clearly NBC sees something positive in rescheduling GG to the Thursday 9PM slot, if they didn’t feel like it could land it’s an easy move to a later (like Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday 10PM, where current shows have their finale as well in the now-scheduled GG hiatus). I’d agree that it might be a bit of a gamble, but rescheduling kind of always is. You pick something with potential to draw a larger audience (after all, SVU has – on average – 2.5x GGs ratings live) and give it opportunity to grow. I can’t imagine they didn’t survey it – perhaps a large chunk of people said they’d watch it live if it was on an earlier time or other day – justifying its announced promotion. Could it still be cancelled? Well, can’t exactly look in NBCs head. But it kind of depends what this network values most. It’s hard to draw in a younger audience as a TV Network in these days, and GG certainly does that – the bulk of that is just not live/linear. Production-wise it’s a safe choice (Lets hope we don’t get another COVID-wave, but if we do) it’s shot on the Universal lot making it a very controlled environment. ok, so I think that what makes Dream act this way (iykyk) is how dreamwastaken became so big so quickly. and by quick I mean fucking lightning speed.

he didn't have enough time to learn enough about cc etiquette, especially in these three aspects: influence, boundaries and fanbase/stans/whatever you call it. I'll try to explain it:

• Influence: Does he know the influence he has? Like, when he hears that he is the myct with the largest fanbase, does he really process that? I remember he talked about not being able to control all of his fanbase and there's bad apples everywhere -- which is true, and that only like 1% of his fanbase breaks his boundaries (that include sending hate for him, harassing, doxing, etc. yk, basic twitter culture lol) but, honey, with your big ass fanbase, 1% is still a lot of people. As a content creator you *have* to be aware of that.

let's take the hbomb situation. First off, as a streamer, it's you that set the mood of the stream. Even if he was only messing around with his pals, even if they did say to do not send hate to hbomb, dt dunking on him created a toxic environment, which caused his fans being toxic towards hbomb and you know what happens next. Hell, when this happened, I was watching Tapl and he was watching them and he was crying laughing over them screaming bc they were just. so loud and so aggressive that it was kinda ??? Sirs, this is literally a Minecraft Stream lmaooo

my point is, that was not the road that dreamwastaken, 21M fans, should've taken. he don't condone his fans actions but he knows his fans are diehard and will always be on his side, he should be more careful before stating negative opinions, especially if its towards another person.

• Boundaries and Fanbase: He posted a list of his boundaries a while ago, idk if you know or seen it (btw please george copy your bestie for the love of god <3) but I'm not talking about those boundaries, I'm talking about the basic boundaries between cc and viewer. boundaries that, in my opinion, should exist between cc and viewer. I get that Dream is an open person, an oversharing type of open person if I may add, but I think he should take a step back regardless. When I heard that he was taking a time from twitter, I genuinely got so glad, not because he couldn't start any drama then, but because it would do so so good for his mental health. I'm not even that fond of him, it's just that for me, any cc taking a break or outright leaving twitter is a win for me. Aight, there's a lot to unpack here, so Imma try to only go into the points I have something to add to (here's what I talk about in each paragraph, if you want to jump to a specific point):

The “just a dude” argument, flipped

First, I agree that one of the many factors that has resulted in the current image Dream has set up for himself, the way his fanbase functions, the ways people hate on him, and the way the Dream brand functions, is the speed of his rise to fame. It's unique, and there are probably a hundred social/psychological angles that could be used to examine the exact effects of that speed upon all of these facets of the Dream Name; did rapid fame beget the rapid rise of unrighteous hatred, did those waves of hatred then instigate the rise of a surprisingly overdefensive fanbase, did that rapid fame get to his head and/or result in an inability to appropriately handle all the after-effects of rapid fame, etc.? That point you bring up, about how the speed of his rise to fame requires him to learn even more quickly, is so interesting to me. I think that maybe Dream expected to get pretty famous pretty quickly, hence the preparedness in regards to some mechanics of influencer fame- merchandise, business-building, networking, knowing how to manage his fanbase to best benefit him. But I don't think he expected to get this famous this quickly. This is all speculation of course, as are this entire post and your ask, but I think that he just couldn't anticipate having to learn how to handle enmasse controversy, waves of antis, or every Youtuber speculating/knowing about him; and yeah, that results in him having to learn all of these things very quickly, lest he allow his whole brand and fandom to fall apart.

Second, I disagree with the frequent argument that Dream's fanbase is only marginally toxic. Personally, I think that the circumstances of Dream's fame, his personality and management of his fanbase, and his brand of content have resulted in the very specific kind of stan that Dream stans are. I don't think this is simply a case of "all fandoms have a small percentage of assholes who take it too far;" rather, the nature of the community itself breeds the kind of mentality of "an asshole who takes it too far." I only even know this because I was a Dream fan (kinda a stan, I'm ngl). At one time, I watched every single Dreamwastaken & Dream Team video multiple times; I listened to the Manhunts on repeat, as though they were podcasts; I followed mostly smiletwt and dttwt accounts on mcyttwt; I had upwards of 10 tabs for AO3 DNF fics open on my phone at a time; I watched DNF and Dream Team Being A Family-esque compilations on repeat; I watched every George and Sapnap alt stream I possibly could; I went out of my way to defend Dream against Redditors and Twitter antis regarding the cheating scandal. For the latter half of 2020, and a couple months of 2021, I lived and breathed this part of the fandom; so when I say that Dream stans are a whole other breed than any other kind of mcyttwt stan, I say that because I used to be like that, too. I usually use parasocial very loosely or ironically, but Dream stans are genuinely one of the most parasocial fanbases I have ever seen or been a part of. The level of investment Dream stans have in this man's life, the lengths they will go to to defend him, the amount of psychonalysis and digging they do on his life and character, the amount of emotion he can evoke in them- it's taken to another level, man. This isn't just characteristic of a fraction of his fanbase; this is what the fanbase is like as a whole.

Third, I partially disagree with your take on the HBomb thing, but not in the way one might think? I actually empathize with the way they reacted much more than I thought I would, simply because I suspect I have RSD (also suspect I have ADHD, have for several months now) and I can see myself getting insanely frustrated because of something like that. Like yeah, it was "just a MC stream" or "just an MC game," but that's kinda disregarding the fact that something that might seem like "just a [insert inconsequential thing]" to a rational mind might have a major emotional consequence/take a major emotional toll on someone with RSD, or really anyone who gets easily impatient/angry about video games (Sapnap reminds me of many of my friends, in that way). The issues I, personally, had with the way they handled the HBomb situation is that these are simply explanations and reasons for my empathy; they are not excuses. I have no excuse when I get irrationally angry about something inconsequential in my own life, for a couple of reasons. One, because I am an adult and I need to learn how to handle my reactions and manage my own anger. Two, because as someone with many mental problems, it is my responsibility to learn coping mechanisms to ensure my own emotional stability and livelihood; this includes learning whatever I need to handle RSD- whether that be isolating myself from others when I know I will become violently/passionately angry about something, creating and sustaining a support system that can get me through bouts of extreme emotion, finding healthy emotional outlets for my negative emotions that won't harm myself or others, or a combination thereof. I don't think what they said about HBomb post-MCC was an irreversibly horrible thing, or anything. I think there were errors committed by two men who should be fully capable of foreseeing and preventing those errors, but I don't unconditionally hate Dream or Sapnap for the post-MCC stream or comments. I just wish they had made amends quickly, publicly, and sufficiently, because the greatest consequences from the whole thing weren't even from those two criticizing HBomb themselves; they were from the waves of backlash because of their immense influence on the MCYT fandom, which could've been prevented, if they had acted maturedly and responsibly after the stream.

Fourth, you’re right, that he doesn’t seem to condone his fans’ behavior. I detest the frequent anti argument that one of the reasons Dream should be criticized is because he explicitly uses his fanbase to attack others, or something of the sort. Personally, I think he created his fanbase in a very specific way and interacts with them in such a way so as to benefit him as much as possible, yes, but he never actually tells his fanbase to go and yell at or harrass anyone. Still, there is a significant difference between not condoning something and condemning something. It might seem unfair, and it might be annoying of me to say this, but I truly think that someone with this large a fanbase, especially one as overzealous as Dream’s, needs to be condemned every single time it goes on some kind of rampage/harrassment campaign. Either that, or Dream needs to make a definitive, permanent statement against any kind of harrassment of others on his behalf. I know he’ll occassionally make the odd tweet or serious stream addressing something his fanbase did, but one of the many reasons his fanbase keeps doing the same damn thing is because he’s so lukewarm and spotty about this condemnation. A fanbase like his needs to be given explicit guidance and boundaries for the numerous things they do in his defense- harrassing/doxing antis, harrassing people who criticize him who aren’t antis (respectful criticism, other CCs, other MCYT stans, etc.), harrassing the people he critcizes (i.e., HBomb), speculating about his personal life (his relationship with his gf, his mental health/ADHD, his romantic life, his childhood, etc.), and speculating about his relationships with his friends and colleagues. My personal ideology is that, if you have significant influence over someone or a group of people, you are at least somewhat responsible for the things those people do or don’t do, if it at all relates back to you. I’m so fucking tired of the argument that CCs aren’t responsible for what their fans do. Obviously they aren’t responsible for every single one of their fans, and obviously they can’t fully control their fans at the end of the day. But I think there are certain things that reach such a level of extremity that does make those CCs responsible. This can be measured by either scale or intensity; that is to say, if a CC’s fanbase does things on an extremely large scale, or one person from/a fraction of the fanbase does something really extreme, then the CC is made all the more responsible. Another CC I’ve always had trouble discussing with other people on this subject is Pewdiepie, in particular, about the extremists in his fanbase. Because the things a small handful of his fans have done in reference to him and/or in his name were so fucking extreme, I thought Pewdiepie had to take at least some responsibilty. Along a similar vein, because the things Dream’s general fanbase does are so widespread and on such a massive scale, Dream has to take at least some responsibility.

Fifth, okay. Hmmm. I want to tackle this point you made about the ableism he faces in some criticism of him carefully and with empathy, but not coddling. One, I do think a lot of the criticism he receives for the ways he handles criticism (post-cheating Tweets, reactions to John Swan, post-MCC HBomb stream, etc.), disregard his RSD and can be oftentimes ableist. I’ve actually encountered people irl who criticize this aspect of Dream’s character, and have had to explain to them their disregard for how ADHD/RSD affect neurodivergent people’s reactions to criticism. But - and this is a big, and very controversial but - I think mentally ill/disordered people can 100% leverage their mental illness/disorders for the sake of manipulation. This is actually something I’ve learned from a psychiatrist, regarding the ways people I know and I handle our anxiety and depression. This manipulation can be unwitting or intentional, but it is entirely possible, and the possibility shouldn’t be entirely dismissed as ableist. Living with a mental illness or disorder that others know about/that you are very public about puts you in an interesting position to receive frequent sympathy, empathy, and/or pity. I’m not saying that empathy for Dream having ADHD/RSD is entirely unjustified; on the contrary, I have frequently expressed how I can relate to his ADHD symptoms and have defended him for expressing those symptoms, both on mcytblr and in real life. I am saying that Dream fans tend to use his ADHD as a kind of shield for a lot of criticism levied against him, including the supposition that he could be manipulating his fanbase to defend him because of his public expressions of RSD. So yes, my theory is that Dream knows how to levy every aspect of his life for his personal gain and for the growth of his brand, and that includes his ADHD. I think he has courage for his openess about his ADHD, I think his openness has contributed to the rise in awareness of mental health and empathy for neurodivergent people within Gen Z, and I think at least some of his expressions of RSD publicly/online weren’t intentionally made public. All that being said, I also think he has to know just how much his fanbase cares about defending him for his ADHD, and I think he has to know that some of the things he does related to his neurodivergence endear him to his audience, in a coddling, baby-ing, mildly ableist sorta way. Maybe this is all incredibly presumptuous of me. Of course, I can never know the real intentions behind any Dream video, Tweet, or stream. Maybe I’m just projecting, because I can see myself doing just this, if I had the maturity I had circa 2018-2019. Idfk know, man.

Sixth, I actually agree with you here, people probably do get more mad at his fanbase than him. Dream puts out content pretty seldomly, considering the frequency of content output for other Youtubers/streamers in his field/at his brand size. And yet, he has received masses of criticism. Considering that the things Dream himself does/says do not entirely correlate with the amount of criticism he receives, I think it’s a logical assumption that a lot of that criticism actually goes back to the size of his presence online, rather than the man himself. That is to say, because of the massive community he’s amassed, the exponential growth of his fanbase, their presence on every single social media site and in virtually every single Internet space/fandom, and the size of his metaphysical presence in his fields, Dream is much bigger than the man himself, so the criticism he receives will, at least in part, be a direct or indirect result of all these other aspects of the Dream brand. Something I don’t think many Dream fans/stans, or even most MCYT fans in general, understand, is that Dream isn’t just “one guy” in the eyes of the Internet- at least, not anymore. He hasn’t been for nearly a year. Like Pewdiepie, Mr. Beast, and other CCs who have amassed similar levels of fame and wealth via Internet content creation, Dream is a brand now, and most people will treat him as such. He isn’t just some uwu soft boy playing Minecraft anymore. He is on a whole other level from any other MCYT in his friend circle or colleague interaction bubble. His words will never again live in a vaccum or private bubble, his friend circle will never again be under anything less than intense scrutiny, his past actions will never again be simple mistakes or silly errors, his words will never again be casual tweets or streams for laughs among a couple thousand followers. Dream’s name represents something much bigger than just the one man. As such, all aspects of his brand, including his fanbase, will tie back to him and, ultimately, to any general criticism of him.

I’m not saying I like any of this, and I actually think the evolution of influencers from people to a marketable brand with similar mechanisms, responsibilities, and liabilities as a corporation is some kind of late capitalism nightmare fuel; I’m just stating my own observations and theories as to why so much anti-Dream criticism seems to be directed at his fanbase, rather than him.

Seventh, he’s just a guy, you’re right, but I think a lot of the antis on Tumblr understand this more than you know. As I’ve seen it, the sentiment among much of the “DSMP stans DNI” crowd seems to be that of “Dream/other MCYTs are such ‘bad’ people, so why do their fans stick to these mediocre, racist men, when there are so many better people to watch/better content to consume?” We know this argument is flawed for many of the obvious reasons - the conflation of all MCYTs’ actions regardless of individual identity, the equating of a CC’s fanbase’s morality to that of the CC they enjoy watching, the exxageration of any error MCYT CCs have committed as bigotry/racism, the fundamental misunderstanding and misinformation that led antis to believe this exxageration of the facts, etc. But I want to focus on the general, underlying sentiment of, “why not watch someone better, when your creator is problematic?” Sometimes, I ask this of Dream stans. Yes, being mildly ignorant, getting involved in the scandals Dream has, and being a right-leaning/libertarian centrist in the recent past all seem like harmless things, all things considered. One could say Dream isn’t nearly as bad as many antis who are misinformed seem to believe, and that there are much worse CCs Dream stans could be watching and creating fan content for. But I think what Tumblr antis wonder is, aren’t there also much better MCYTs/CCs people could be watching and stanning? Because he’s just some guy, right? Is his content truly so exceptional or is he really so exceptional a person, that people have to stick by him, despite the things that spike up regarding his current or past actions? I think that’s what made me finally decide to stop watching Dream. I realized he was just Some Guy. The Dream Team was a comforting dynamic to indulge in, DNF was a cute ship to read and speculate about, and Manhunts were fun videos to watch; however, once the Reddit posts came out and I read them in-depth, the cost-benefit analysis tipped over to the “not worth it” side for me. I realized Dream’s content, while fun and comforting, was not entirely unique, and wasn’t worth sticking around for, given what I then knew about his past political leanings. If he is just Some Guy, then there are a hundred more like him out there. There a hundred more ships, a hundred more found family dynamics, a hundred more entertaining and skilled Minecraft players. So while I agree with you on the point of people being allowed to love him regardless because he is just a guy, at the end of the day, I think that, if we are to believe that sentiment or use that argument in such a manner, we should also understand the flip side- that, if he is just some guy, why is it worth sticking around? To that I say, maybe because people just enjoy the simple things they enjoy.

Hi!! Thank you so so much 🥰

Applying abroad is a long (and frustrating) process and I’d love to make a longer post about it once all my decisions are out and I’m in a better position to give advice! But here’s how I would break it down initially:

1. Decide which countries you’d like to apply to: Consider cost of attendance, scholarships, climate, where you’d like to work after grad, language, work culture, what the general vibe is, if you have family there, etc.

I applied to the UK, US, and Canada. I have a lot of friends who also did Singapore.

2. Make a rough list of colleges (~30?): Similar criteria as above but also what’s good for your subject, job placement, teacher to student ratio, living situation, etc.

Here’s a very (!!) good resource on choosing colleges for the US, the college essay guy is honestly brilliant for free resources for US apps.

Some countries only let you apply to a certain number of colleges, so also consider that.

(Also you should definitely reduce this list eventually - anything around 10-15 is above average and good enough, above 20 is usually insane. I applied to 21 only because I applied to three different countries and 2021 has been a very bad application year - but doing so many colleges most definitely killed me so pls be wiser than I was)

3. If you’re in grade 9-11 - look at what these colleges want and start building your profile accordingly.

This includes extracurriculars, tests you may have to take, some colleges want you to have awards, read certain books, etc.

Online communities such as r/ApplyingToCollege on Reddit for the US, and the student room for the UK, can be extremely helpful! You can also find a lot of videos on youtube where people address their ECs etc.

With the US it’s very easy to be intimidated by all the prep and profile building people do but please stay true to what you enjoy!! Just push yourself outside your comfort zone.

4. If you’re in grade 12 - create a timeline of the application process along with deadlines & what all you’ll be required to do.

Again - r/A2C is brilliant!!

If it’s possible for you - get a counselor! It’s so much easier to manage deadlines/make decisions etc when you have someone experienced. To be honest applying to college is a massive and tedious process that takes months but I hope this gives you a good rough idea of where to start.

I’d love to answer any specific questions that you have!! Also this is a good starter post, esp. for the US but it isn’t international specific.

Factors I think international students must esp. consider are:

- cost of attendance & application, unis abroad are outrageously expensive for international students compared to home students

- acceptance rates, much lower for international students than home students

- how easy is it to work there after uni? some countries kick you out as soon as you’re done w schooling which isn’t ideal

and yeah!! I’m sure I’m missing out on a lot but I hope that helps.

Melting Under Blue Skies | Luke Patterson X Reader

English isn’t my first language, so please excuse any mistakes.

Warnings: You might cringe a bit of how sweet this is? I don’t know, just be warned. Also, Luke and (Y/N) being karaoke enthusiasts and enjoying embarrassing their friends.

Characters: Alive!Luke/Alive!fem!reader, Julie, Flynn, Alex, Reggie, Willie. Ray is mentioned.

Modern AU (I guess? It’s settled in 2020 and the boys aren’t ghosts).

Word Count: 3,8K words.

It definitely wasn't a surprise for (Y/N) (Y/L/N) when she heard that Julie Molina had joined a band as their lead singer - Julie and The Phantoms. (Y/N) knew that would happen eventually, Jules was insanely talented and it was clear that she was meant for it - greatness.

The girl had been a close friend to the Molina girl since they were very young, but, unfortunately, they did drift apart a bit after (Y/N) moved from Los Feliz High School. They still hanged out whenever they could, but it didn't happen as often as it used to. Even so, the girl was thrilled to hear that Julie was in a band, and Julie was more than excited to introduce her to the boys.

Chaotic was a good word to describe them, but it was a good kind of it. They were very welcoming to (Y/N) and she thought that, overall, they were a fun group to be around. However, it wasn't like she clicked with them as soon as they met.

Julie even created a group chat so they all could talk and get to know each other. (Y/N) did enjoy the memes they shared and the puppy videos that Reggie eventually sent in the group, but she couldn't say that she had a real connection with any of them.

It took her a while, but Luke was the first one to actually become close to her. All it took was a question.

That said question wasn't even directed at him, not exactly. (Y/N) asked in the chatroom if anyone was up for going out and grabbing some ice cream with her. The issue was that it was already past 1 am and those who weren't sleeping didn't appreciate the idea.

However, Luke did. Apparently, he had had a disagreement with his folks and wanted to go out and clear his head for a while. It was a bit awkward at first, since they didn't know each other well, but spending those few hours together without their other friends was enough for them to bond more than they had in the past month.

It became quite a routine for them to do that, to hang out around the city during the night whenever one of them felt stressed and wanted to vent out. It was just easy for them to open up to each other - even if neither of them were usually good at talking about their problems, since they would rather not worry anyone.

The growing friendship was noticeable to anyone around them and, honestly, Julie couldn't be happier seeing that her two dear friends hit off so easily. Soon enough, (Y/N) and Luke also became each other's best friend.

The turning point in their friendship happened at a party. Well, it wasn't exactly a party, it felt more like a meeting - and it wasn't even related to the band. It was something to do with Ray's job. Of course that when the Molina girl sensed that the gathering would probably be tedious, she invited her friends to come along.

There were no other words for it, the party was boring. However, they had promised Julie they would stay for an hour at least. Luke had to keep reminding (Y/N) of that every time she groaned in discontentment, earning a few chuckles and a pat on her head from him.

He couldn't deny it, though. He wanted to leave just as much as any of them did.

Reggie was apparently in charge of eating all the food from their table. Alex had invited a boy he'd recently started going out with, a nice lad called Willie; and he was thankful that he did it, since talking to Willie was the only entertaining thing about that place. Luke was feeling uneasy, not being the biggest fan of having to stay seated and quiet on his place. He was trying not to let his nerves get to him, only fidgeting with his hands, as (Y/N) was resting her head on his shoulder, equally bored.

That was when her eyes found it.

"Luke." (Y/N) raised her head from his shoulder, eyes widening slightly. That was enough to pique Luke's interest. "Do my eyes deceive me or is that really what I think it is?"

Following her gaze, the boy saw what caught her attention. "Oh my God." he straightened himself in the chair. "They have a karaoke machine."

If you were part of their squad, you'd probably know that Luke Patterson and (Y/N) (Y/L/N) were karaoke enthusiasts and would never miss a chance to sing and perform together. Sometimes they would even get Reggie to sing with them, but he was the only one to join the duo at karaoke nights. That's because they could get a bit too excited and lost in the moment.

"Guys, can't we have just one nice normal evening?" Alex pleaded. They were plus ones at that party and he really wasn't in the mood of being kicked out of there. "Besides, we don't even know these people, Julie was the one who told us to come."

"Why are you worrying so much, then?" Luke turned to him, a smirk quickly making it's way to his face. "We are never going to see these people again."

All it took was the wink Luke threw at her direction for (Y/N) to understand that he would be down for it if she was. Oh, finally something to make that night interesting.

"Do you want to join us, Reg?" (Y/N) chuckled as the boy turned to her confusedly, mouth full of meatballs. She shook her head, letting him go back to his eating. "Willie?"

Alex widened his eyes at her invitation, not wanting them to scare his potentially next boyfriend off. Although a smirk made it's way to his lips, Willie declined it. "I think I'll pass."

Luke stood up, offering his hand to the girl. "Let's give them a show, (Y/N)."

She gladly accepted it, intertwining her hands with his as he pulled her along. Willie laughed as he noticed the slight bounce in the girl's step. "I like your friends."

i have a Very Jewish Take on how Dean and Cas’s love for each other actually for real invented free will and this will maybe interest like 3 people but here we go:

so, at my seminary, i took this really incredible class called Striving for the Divine where we talked about Human-Divine relationship through a deep analysis of the first few chapters of Genesis, and a lot of what we worked on in the class was coming to thorough, communal understandings of certain key terms

we spent a lot of time trying to define the hebrew word for good; “טוב” , and the conclusion we came to is that ‘Good’, in the context of Creation, was simply anything that is exactly as envisioned by the Creator. ‘Good’ is the result being an exact match of the plan, so “רע”, ‘Bad’ , without any moral dimension necessarily tacked on, is when it isn’t - the gap between the vision and the object, the space between idea and reality - that is ‘Bad’. if you’ve ever tried to make any kind of art you know what i mean.

of course, that space is also where possibility exists, where collaboration can happen, where the unexpected or unknown can emerge, where freedom is found

the first time ‘Bad’ is even mentioned in the text is in reference to the Tree of Knowledge, and even then it is only the potential of it

its not until the Fruit is eaten, and shared, that that space even exists

now, supernatural has this angry, xtian-raised white man idea of the Divine as an absent father or controlling yet lazy creator that neither I, nor I think Judaism as a whole, subscribes to BUT

Contrary to popular belief Blue isn’t his favourite colour. Blue has a special place in his heart but his favourite colour is Grey, originally it was because his elderly neighbour had a grey cat that he would play with when he was young and the neighbour would let him hang out at their place while Sally was out but then he met Annabeth and now it’s because he’s a simp and could spend hours staring at her eyes.

He was really close with said neighbour and when they died (During the summer before BotL) He was devastated and went to their funeral, He was actually in their will and he got to keep a few things of theirs(I’ll probably write a oneshot of this)

Has played Minecraft since it first came out and gets really excited whenever a new update comes out.

He got Annabeth into it because of the building and now they play together whenever they feel like de-stressing.
