I want to be able to discuss transmisogyny, both to be able to defend myself against it and to help other transfems suffering from it. But if the person talking about it goes out of their way to frame trans men as inherently more privileged than women, or dismiss transandrophobia, then- i have to be weary.

How can I trust that you're being accurate about the bigotry you experience, when you are being dismissive of the bigotry fellow trans people experience?

Truth is that transmasc people suffer a unique blend of transphobia, one that insists they are women and then enacts misogyny upon them based on that assertion. This is transandrophobia. Why shouldn't transmasc people be able to use this label to correctly identify their struggles, as we transfem people use transmisogyny to correctly identify ours?

I was talking about this on a call the other day but one of my favorite things about Sea of Thieves is that the characters are allowed to be ugly and so wildly diverse. Even the skeletons are diverse and have compelling and fun designs.

Note that when I say ugly I don’t mean that as a bad thing - I’m a firm believer that ugly doesn’t have to be a bad word, just the same as fat doesn’t have to be. Nobody’s perfect and that’s beautiful etc etc, when I say ugly I mean “not conventionally attractive” and it’s something I wholeheartedly appreciate

Like. Player pirates are randomly generated, which can be frustrating but at the end of the day it’s refreshing to not be able to sit and put together the perfect pirate. There will always be little scars or nicks or features you didn’t choose to place there, but they’re your pirates’ features. Just a couple days ago I realized my pirate has a snake bite on her cheek, and I LOVE that it’s there, though I never would have considered it for her had I been given the option to build her from scratch.

The NPCs, too, are diverse, and allowed to be flawed, and ugly. With their crooked or missing teeth and imperfect proportions and scars and asymmetrical faces - Rare could have very easily chosen to make every last NPC a perfectly pretty face fit for a magazine, and they chose not to. It makes the characters feel a little more real, more like they’re people - I can’t tell you how often I sit and examine the models of NPCs to look at every little detail and just appreciate how imperfect they are.

And like previously stated - and perhaps the thing I appreciate the most - even the skeleton characters are widely varied. Rathbone moves with a hunched posture that hides the fact his frame is fairly small, Grimm is tall and wide in that way that Sea of Thieves builds their fat characters, one of Chi’s horns is growing from her eye socket and she’s lankier than Ruth’s sturdy frame, Horatio has arms that are just a little too long, so on and so forth.

Just… Sure, I don’t by any means love Rare as a company, but the character design we see in Sea of Thieves is some of the best I’ve ever seen. I have a lot of love for this pirate game and the amount of love the design team put into every single character they offer us

also ive been playing more hades. my stance remains as i said before: for me the only downfall is seriously how the designs lack any variety when it comes to being unique on their own. literally variations to face and body shapes and like even just DIFFERENT NOSES and expressions would do it so much wonder (as well as getting rid of those ashy darker skins like. ok)

for the rest its a whole lot of fun. like its FUN to play, the rng is fun, the dialogues and personalities are entertaining to me too! the character design only has that singular downfall. lol

As a long-time shopper in both aisles, unfortunately the grass is not very green over in the men's either lmao.

Your waist is 30 inches? Okay, well, our 30 inches aren't your tape measure's 30 inches. Also, we've perfected the technique of making trousers that are too tight for movement but that also fall off. You're welcome. Also, do you have legs shorter or longer than our standard inseam length for that waist? Fuck you, trip over your own trousers/enjoy your cold ankles.

Or take shirts. Your chest is 40 inches so you're a 40, right? Well, yes, sort of. But your shoulders are now too broad or too narrow, you're fat, and you've got too thick/thin a neck so ties won't sit right. Some shirts are sized by neck! So you're a 16.5 neck size. Now it's falling off you because you've got a broad neck on a slight frame. Go down a size and you're choking.

The answer is, just like with women's clothing, to find the one shop that has a pattern block you fit and hope they don't change it. Which they probably will.

Sure, there are usually okay pockets. But that's the only bit of proper, unalloyed green. Solidarity across the clothing aisles, folks.
