Literally he walks in— she’s asleep at TSJ’s side, direct parallel to him finding her at his side after his withdrawal— he wakes her, there’s this intense like “!!! You’re here!!!” thing between them, and then she goes to hug him and call him gege and he GETS UP AND LEAVES because he CANT FUCKING HANDLE THE FIRST THING SHE SAYS BEING GEGE.

She’s like ??? wtf why are you mad at me??? And he LEAVES THE ROOM— STILL HAVING NOT ACTUALLY HUGGED HER— and then she follows— still calling him gege— at which point he puts on the mask, repeats don’t call me gege, then says you’re so heartless you don’t even come to see me when you get better, the intensity gone so it sounds like he’s childishly petulantly jealous rather than INTENSELY AND VERY ADULTLY HURT, on account of the fact that his feelings are NOT what he felt when he was played by a precocious child actor.

So she cajoles and she soothes and she says gege gege gege until he pulls himself together enough to accept it again and be very nearly normal.

And then the rest of the episode is him being repeatedly hit over the head with the reality that she a) is completely in love with Tushan Jing/Ye Shiqi, (Xinyue and Fenglong are rather alarmed and distressed bc they had their perfect double marriage plot ready to go, but that’s neither here nor there)

and b) even if she weren’t in love with someone else, it certainly wouldn’t make her fall in love with him, as evidenced by the fact that she (blameless but oblivious!) sees no need to compromise about bringing her husband to stay by Cang Xuan’s side. “If you get married, how can you stay with me?” “Oh that won’t be a problem it will be him and I, and he will understand that I go with you, and he’ll go with me and then everything will be fine bam all childhood plans fulfilled!” Meanwhile Cang Xuan is about ten seconds from actually screaming because he has to give her NORMAL, DISINTERESTED advice about how Tushan Jing is too caught up in his family’s problems to disentangle himself, so she needs to think about this shit, and not the advice he wants to give, which is that well you could marry me. Or just stay. Don’t marry anyone else. And then everything would be fine.

I love this because it made me think of the scene in ep 3 when she is literally in the palm of his hand in Haishi City and he looks with dispassionate, clinical curiosity. This is such a contrast.

I literally started chuckling. Of course it’s gonna be painful. At this rate, they are running out of torture things to do to him; I guess they haven’t started chopping limbs off yet?

EEEE I love seeing her green. I will never not be feral about their souls being literally entwined! But also, that is such a metaphor for a person not being truly gone from the world while there is still someone who remembers and loves them - they themselves are the trace of that person in the universe.

It’s so helpful to have a boyfriend with insane pain tolerance.
