I felt strongly compelled to write this and it's been in the works for literal months now. A Shu drabble of the WGP race in Porto Corsa. WoC styled, retelling of a canon scene (with flavor)
This isn't actually a gift but I think we all know who's the reason this got made lol
Trigger warning and general caution for car crash depictions and injuries.
-
Crueler thoughts would have warned him it was only a matter of time. Suspicions were already in the air, hesitation and doubt permeating like a fog. Miguel had gone through it first-tread already, and he'd been told how sudden it was. Like he'd just gotten struck by lightning, it happened that quickly. Crueler thoughts should have told him, 'this was inevitable'. The risk was present.
He felt perfectly fine. Everything was performing exceptionally well, fine-tuned for this competition. He checked his gauge, the needle pushing into 198mph. Not his max, but he was also closing in on another turn soon. Nothing felt out of the ordinary. Others had had worse luck, but surely, he would not be one of them. He chose, as they all did, to ignore the signs of that possible risk, despite the last race in Tokyo. A freak coincidence, at best.
The landscape was breathtaking. Uncovered sunlight sparkled over the ocean waves in the distance, the bridge and surrounding city bathed in warm light. If he had the time to, after the competition, he'd love to travel back here to truly enjoy the scenery, to take it all in.
But he had a race to win, first. He pressed into his focus, narrowing his eyes down the stretch of bridge laid out before him. He's got this, surely.
It all happened so fast.
Shrapnel and burnt rubber clinked under his tires; someone had crashed here just before. Almost as soon as the thought was upon him, his engine felt...strange. Wrong. Something was tight and pinching, there was this burn spreading through his fuselage. He took in a sharp breath, and something under the hood blew.
The explosion was sudden, and strong enough to knock Shu off his line, tires steering around shakily to reclaim it. He skidded into a loose drift, trying to avoid either wall of the bridge.
And then something slammed into him on the other side, launching him forward again. He felt his tires come off the ground, and panic flooded his systems. There wasn't enough inertia to completely flip him, as the object behind him kept going. His front tires hit the asphalt, and his back ones hung awkwardly over the hood of a fellow racer - the one who'd lost control and run into him.
The two skidded down the bridge, Shu stuck at an odd angle and turned nearly a hundred and eighty degrees on the track. He noticed the third racecar before he could do anything about it. A black car - Max, was it? - slammed in between the two, breaking them apart. Shu's breath hitched in his throat as he clenched his teeth. The world was starting to spin.
Just as the impact started to slow and fade, another one ramped them up, and another. He was pushed further down the road, with nowhere else to go, clinging to the ground in the hopes he and no one around him would go careening into the abyss.
Finally, as though it would never come, their frames came to rest. Engines rumbled around him, some idling, some severely ill and garbled. His own, among the latter.
He could scarcely keep his eyes open. Everything hurt. Especially within his engine, where something burned and ached like a horrible acid. He felt like he'd be sick, if he weren't so close to passing out first. Everything was blurry, swaying around out of focus. Focus...
If he could just focus, over this blare of sirens...

man, new cars are really just absurdly fast?
but as with many things, its a matter of technological escalation.
take for example, rallying in the 1970s, which was all just RWD machines with carburettors. now if you were to introduce a dead stock, base model toyota 86 and let it compete, even with an auto box, it would take an easy minute off the finishing times of competition prepped cars.
the one that always blows my mind is how fast modern turbo charged cars are. like the porsche 959 held the top speed record for a production car in 1986 by going 198mph. these days you can buy one of many 4 door luxury sedans that can hit over 200mph.
fuel injection, engine design, gearbox design and largely tyre quality has come an insanely long way from even 10 years ago so next person to say “cars used to be so much faster back in the 80s/90s” you can laugh at their awfully flowing 2JZs and cruise away in your B58 with half the boost.

F1 schedule: How to Watch the Miami Grand Prix
Photo by Clive Mason - Formula 1/Formula 1 via Getty Images
F1’s arrival in Florida could be a landmark moment for the sport’s growth in America.
Exactly when a sport “arrives” in America isn’t binary, but a gradual process with pivotal moments of public awareness. Where Formula 1 currently sits on its trajectory in the States is debatable, but the direction the series is headed is undeniable.
After missing out on the 2020 F1 schedule due to COVID restrictions, over 400,000 fans flocked to the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, TX last fall. Part of that spike in interest has been thanks to Netflix’s Drive to Survive series, which is credited anytime a team principal, driver, or reporter discusses F1’s growth in recent years. The next seminal moment in the sport’s relationship with America lands this weekend with the debut of the Miami Grand Prix.
Part of a ten-year deal, Miami marks the first time in nearly four decades the US has hosted two F1 races in the same season and becomes the 11th American circuit to host a Grand Prix. Tickets sold out almost immediately with reports of a few hundred thousand on the waiting list. To echo that level of demand, on the latest F1 Nation Podcast, McLaren CEO Zak Brown stated that he had “never seen this much attention in [his] 20 years in the sport, the number of hospitality and appearance requests, celebrity guests and sponsorship interest.”
Most everyone in the series believes that Sunday will mark the next stage of America’s discovery of Formula 1. TV ratings are steadily improving on ESPN, and Miami could easily land in the top five highest-rated F1 races in US history. With the next TV deal currently being shopped around and a new Las Vegas Grand Prix down the famous Strip coming in 2023, it’s a great time to be an American F1 fan.
The Season So Far
A new set of regulations has seen Ferrari jump into the top spot, while the middle of the grid is at its most competitive point in years. Current Championship leader Charles Leclerc and 2020 title winner Max Verstappen have traded wins in the open four rounds of the season. Ferrari’s Leclerc enters the Miami weekend with a 27-point advantage. Meanwhile, Mercedes, winners of the last eight Constructors’ Titles, continue to struggle with their new 2022 car. Lewis Hamilton sits 7th in the standings after finishing 13th in Australia last time out.
The Circuit:

Miami International Autodrome
The 19-turn Miami International Autodrome winds through the Miami Gardens and around Hard Rock Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins. There are three straights and three DRS (Drag Reduction System) zones which should provide plenty of overtaking opportunities. The 3.36-mile circuit (5.412km) is expected to have a top speed of 198mph, making it one of the fastest tracks in F1. Both Valtteri Bottas and Pierre Gasly gave the circuit positive reviews after spending time in the simulator this week. We should be in for a very smooth surface that is designed to provide a high level of grip.
And if a brand new F1 circuit in Miami wasn’t enough, the promotion team has gone above and beyond to make this an event unlike any other on the calendar. The track starts by encircling the NFL stadium from the start/finish line through Turn 4. Passing by the Fountains and through the chicane brings the drivers into the mock Marnia complete with yachts and the visual effect of water. After a long, winding, and extremely fast section heading into Turn 11, we find The Beach which will feature two levels of cabanas, two resort-style pools, and a 24,000 square foot beach. This race will certainly have the Miami vibe.

For those without cable looking to watch the Miami Grand Prix weekend, you can subscribe to F1TV directly to catch every race, qualifying, and practice session throughout the 2022 season.
DraftKings Sportsbook is offering odds on the race. Just like the season thus, far there is a two-car battle at the top. Max Verstappen is a slight favorite at +100, followed by Charles Leclerc (+125). Their teammates are currently set at +1200 for Sergio Perez and +1600 for Carlos Sainz. Farther back is seven-time Champion Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris (both at +4000) and the new Mercedes driver George Russell at +6000.
What to Watch For
With limited time in the track simulators, how will the drivers adapt to a brand new circuit?
Mercedes and Ferrari are rumored to be bringing upgrades to their cars. Will that push Ferrari to the front once more after seeing Red Bull dominate at Imola? And have Mercedes finally found a solution to their porpoising issues to give Lewis Hamilton a chance to fight at the front?
How might rain impact Qualifying and the Grand Prix? Right now the weather forecast predicts clear skies for Friday’s practice sessions and Saturday’s qualifying runs, but there continues to be a chance of potential rain Sunday afternoon during the race.
We’ve seen a much more balanced and competitive midfield so far this season, with 18 drivers already scoring points. Alpine, Alfa Romeo, and Haas all have a car in the top ten. Which midfield team will be the quickest on a brand new circuit?
And after closing the Championship gap on Charles Leclerc last week in Italy, can Max dominate the weekend once again to pull himself and Red Bull right into the top of the standings?
It all kicks off Friday afternoon as Formula 1 welcomes in the brand new Miami Grand Prix.
Before you head out, check out the F1 drivers attempting to guess the city attached to various NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS & NHL teams. There are a lot of Boston guesses.

v10 plus
v10 plus The troublesome second collection. Audi staggered every one of us in 2007 when it propelled the first R8. We considered how an organization with an inconsistent quick vehicle history and no genuine games auto experience would pull off a mid-engined Porsche 911 opponent, however some way or another it did. The first R8 improved and better with age, coming full circle in the brilliant V10+.
v10 plus This is the new form. The general shape is quickly commonplace, yet the front and backsides presently flaunt a forceful, precise frame that works more successfully face to face than it does on the page. So, for my tastes the first's pretty effortlessness has been lost.
Video Review
Motor, transmission and 0-60mph time
There is no V8 choice. This V10+ sits at the highest point of a two-show line-up, propped up by the V10. Power begins at 533bhp and ascends to 602bhp – real supercar domain. The two renditions convey crest control at 8250rpm, which is really wild for such a major ten-chamber unit, however they'll really turn on to 8700rpm before the limiter tolls in to stop the cylinders pounding themselves through the glass motor cover.
Pinnacle torque in the V10 is 398lb ft, ascending to 413lb ft in the V10+ (both create crest torque at 6500rpm). Drive goes to each of the four wheels by means of a seven-speed twin-grip gearbox, which has been changed to convey snappier gearshifts.
The astute four-wheel drive framework can redirect 100 percent of torque to either pivot, while a restricted slip differential further allots drive between the back wheels.
62mph flashes by in 3.2 seconds in the V10+, while the V10 requires another two-tenths. Top velocities are 205mph and 198mph separately.

Specialized features
The fundamental structure is presently an aluminum/carbonfibre half and half. The back bulkhead and transmission burrow are carbonfibre – the designers just utilized it where quality was required only one way – which has lessened weight by 15 percent and increment inflexibility by 40 percent contrasted with the first R8's shell. Audi claims the general weight sparing over the past model is 'up to 50kg', which we won't consider excessively important. At any rate it isn't heavier.
The motor, imparted to the widespread Lamborghini Huracan, would now be able to close off five of its chambers when cruising to spare fuel. There's likewise a drifting capacity joined into the transmission for a similar reason.
Attractive variable dampers are discretionary, as is Dynamic Steering. The last uses a variable proportion rack to offer light, brisk directing at low speeds and enhanced dependability at higher paces. As we'll discover, that is no beneficial thing.
Notwithstanding the well-known Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual driving modes, there is currently another switchable execution mode – standard on the V10+, an additional on the V10. It spins through Dry, Wet and Snow settings to change the level of dependability control intercession relying upon the street conditions.
Picture 17 of 76Audi R8 V10 - Wheel
Picture 17 of 76
What's it jump at the chance to drive?
With everything turned directly down, the R8 V10+ is an accommodating, supple and generally calm machine. For whatever length of time that you needn't bother with back seats there's no reason the R8 couldn't be a day by day driver. Turn everything up, however, and it truly transforms into a real supercar.
The drivetrain is staggering – the motor is fiercely responsive and it revs with genuine force in the upper scopes, while the gearbox is momentary. It positions among the simple best for instantaneousness and is one of the real zones of enhancement over the old vehicle. It's a pity a greater amount of the serrated, hard-edged fumes bark doesn't discover its way into the lodge, yet here is a motor with the character and fervor we expect of a supercar.
The Dynamic Steering feels entirely great a score or two once again from the cutoff and it's relentlessly exact. The weighting is entirely characteristic, as well, so the front pivot reacts with an anticipated promptness. Everything feels pleasantly strong.
At that point you push somewhat harder, solicit excessively from the front tires and the nose starts to wash wide… .with no sign from the rudder that the tires were going to give up. It's disappointing that the variable framework burglarizes the vehicle of that layer of association since it generally feels so sure on its way into a zenith.
There's packs of body control and great flexibility – in spite of the fact that the firmer damper mode is probably going to be excessively for the UK's most separated byways – and the body rolls sufficiently only in corners to tell you how hard the skeleton is functioning.
The four-wheel drive framework works so successfully that not a solitary pull is wasted. That gives the impression of the R8 being totally secured and disobediently non-movable. Push somewhat harder and you'll reveal a window of low and medium speed understeer – a significant extensive one, it must be said – and by and by you need to push on considerably further to find the R8's energetic side.
On the track it'll really cut some genuinely genuine shapes, yet you truly do require a good measure of room and an insignificant measure of creative ability to get it to unstick itself and wake up out and about. All things considered, I wasn't expecting armfuls of restorative bolt and billows of tire smoke from the new R8. Be that as it may, in the old model, you could play with the undercarriage equalization and feel it squirming around a little at superbly sensible velocities. It was something that made it so much fun.
Picture 15 of 76Audi R8 V10 RWS - Starter catch
Picture 15 of 76
So to crush your way through the understeer window and make it move around you need to back the auto in on the brakes, at that point apply the power rapidly. It will then begin to discover its way not far off in a fun, connecting way, however the old auto would do as such without requesting such an extensive amount the driver. Some of the time, advance doesn't generally feel like advancement.
There's no uncertainty the R8 is truly fast and appropriately arranged, however the discretionary Dynamic Steering costs it a portion of the freshness of the old auto and that more effective four-wheel drive framework has made the vehicle less expressive.
Adversaries
The standard of the opposition in this segment is genuinely great. The Porsche 911 Turbo S is the quintessential regular supercar, however it comes up short on the R8's character and it just wakes up out and about when you separate your mind from whatever is left of your sensory system.
Mercedes' AMG GT S coordinates the R8 for kerbside advance and it offers a tasteful, including driving knowledge. It's our present pioneer in this class, which may yet change when it meets the R8.

Roma
