My Left Foot (1989). Christy Brown, born with cerebral palsy, learns to paint and write with his only controllable limb - his left foot.

It's pretty hard to argue that Daniel Day-Lewis is a once-in-a-generation talent, and My Left Foot is, in many ways, a chance for him to showcase that. He's alternately tender, funny, furious and focused in this richly drawn portrait of the life of Christy Brown, an artist and author with profound cerebral palsy. With a limited range of movement and speech, Day-Lewis beautifully explores the vastness of the human experience, and you really feel like you know Christy by the end of it. 

That said, I wasn't quite as moved by this as I expected? In some ways, it even feels like a TV movie, which feels a product of the production values, often uninspired cinematography (although it does have its moments), and limited use of a very good supporting cast. I don't know, it just didn't quite work for me. 7/10.
