1973 Dodge Monaco
On this date, August 7th, in 1980, "The Blues Brothers" was released.
"It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."
The film used 13 different cars bought at auction from the California Highway Patrol to depict the retired 1974 Mount Prospect, Illinois Dodge Monaco patrol car that would affectionately become known as The Bluesmobile. The vehicles were outfitted by the studio to do particular driving chores; some were customized for speed and others for jumps, depending on the scene. For the large car chases, filmmakers purchased 60 police cars at $400 each, and most were destroyed at the completion of the filming. More than 40 stunt drivers were hired, and the crew kept a 24-hour body shop to repair cars.
According to Dan Aykroyd, the horn-shaped loudspeaker atop the Bluesmobile was actually a duplicate of a massive Cold War-era air raid siren (CLM Model 92729DP) installed in the schoolyard at Our Lady of Annunciation where Aykroyd attended elementary school while growing up in Ottawa, Canada. The siren was manufactured by a Canadian company called CLM Industries, and Aykroyd specifically requested the same CLM model be used in the movie to portray the loudspeaker the characters affixed to the top of the Bluesmobile and used as a public address system.
Director John Landis has claimed that the portion of the final chase sequence beneath the elevated train tracks, which briefly showed a reading of 118 miles per hour on the car's speedometer, was actually filmed at that speed, a testament to the Monaco's police car heritage. He has also stated that he re-shot some of the scenes with pedestrians on the sidewalks, so viewers could see that the film had not been sped up to create the effect of speed.
For the scene when the Blues Brothers finally arrive at the Richard J. Daley Center, a mechanic took several months to rig the car to fall apart.
At the time of its release, "The Blues Brothers" held the world record for the most cars destroyed in one film until it was surpassed by a single car in its 1998 sequel. (Wikipedia)

1974 Dodge Monaco
The Bluesmobile is a 1974 Dodge Monaco sedan that was prominently featured in the 1980 Universal Pictures film The Blues Brothers. The car is described as a decommissioned Mount Prospect police car, purchased by Elwood Blues at an auction after he had traded a previous car (a 1968 Cadillac Sixty Special) for a microphone. The Bluesmobile is equipped with a "440 Magnum" engine and squad car package, an option offered by Dodge for the Monaco in 1974. It bears an Illinois license plate reading "BDR 529", a tribute to the Black Diamond Riders motorcycle club of Toronto, Canada. Dan Aykroyd, co-writer of the film, stated that he chose the 440 Dodge Monaco because he considered it to be the hottest car used by police during the 1970s.
"It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas". ~ Elwood Blues describing the Bluesmobile.

But really, blues brothers is one of the best comedy movies ever made. Written comedy is great, slapstick is great, exaggerated comedy is great. Its damn near the perfect comedy film. The chemistry of dan and john is unmatched. (Im also a big car nerd and i want the magic 1974 dodge monaco and if i ever get my hands on one, i will make a movie accurate replica car)
Absolutely agree 110%. Perfect movie. Favorite movie ever along with The Godfather. Everything is too good to be true. Literally nothing I would change. Except maybe Jake's towel falling off when he's leaving the sauna AHEM

“Oh Follow me Mam, It ain’t far from here. We’ll take my Cruiser…”
(The go up and Find Harold’s car. It was a Completely Rusted out 1974 Dodge Monaco. The paint job had Almost completely peeled off but you could still tell it was a cop car. Harold then opened the door for Birdie)
“Here you are mam…”
(One morning while Birdie’s just relaxing, enjoying peace and quiet until…
💥 BOOM!💥
There’s a large explosion at a Drug lab next door! Some Imps and sinners run in and try and grab some of the products until they hear a siren… A police Siren? Birdie could hear some of the sinners talking)
“Oh shit, it’s him! RUN!”
(Most of the Thieves run off except for one…)
“It’s hell! We don’t need to worry about the police anymore!”
(Then a cop car pulls up, it’s rusty and looks like it shouldn’t be running anymore but it is… then out steps a large man… he’s about 6’ft, wearing a Bloodied and burnt cop uniform from the 60s and kinda fat but that’s not the worst part, one half of his body looked normal while the other half had all the skin burnt off! When he spoke it was very gravely and he smelt like burnt flesh)
“Alright Boy… You dunn gone breakin the law in my jurisdiction now…”
(The cop then spits on the ground. The thieve looked confused)
“Why the fuck are you dressed up as a cop? This is Hell—”
(Before the robber could even finish his sentence there was a loud gunshot! The robber screams in pain and the Cop walks over to him, Baton in hand and he began to beat him to a pulp… You could hear the screams and the crunching sound from the Theive’s bones breaking… Eventually the cop stopped and adjusted his hat. He laughed heartedly)
“Son, you shoulda respected the damn LAW!”
(The cop then keeps laughing)
Birdie pokes her head out the front door of her shop. At some point she had gotten use to her neighbors being noisy. It honestly came in handy considering the things she did to people. It covered up the noise. This time though, they were interrupting her morning coffee, and she was going to have a bone to pick with whomever was responsible for this.
Birdie eyed the burning the remains of the nextdoor building. She couldn't care enough to worry about it spreading to her place. Her red eyes then move to burly sinner beating some sinner up with a...pipe? Shrugging, she wonders over, her boots clunking on the ground. She watches for a while as the man bludgeons the sinner on the ground.
Once he stops, she says something, her voice tinged with a southern accent.
"You know, they're gonna die of internal bleedin' if you leave em like that. They up for grabs, or you takin' em somewhere?"
She didn't even think to question why the man was dressed like a police officer or why he was spewing things about the law. She'd come across her fair share strange sinners over the years.

The Blues Brothers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDvIGZ-_au4&ab_channel=TheBluesBrothers
Jake Blues † - (chant)
Elwood Blues - (chant et harmonica)
Steve "The Colonel" Cropper - guitare solo et rythmique, (membre de Booker T. and the M.G.'sDonald")
Duck" Dunn † guitare basse, membre de Booker T. and the M.G.'s
"Blue" Lou Marini - saxophone (Saturday Night Live Band)
Matt "Guitar" Murphy † - guitare solo et rythmique
Alan "Mr. Fabulous" Rubin † - trompette (Saturday Night Live Band)
Paul ("The Shiv" Shaffer - piano
Merci beaucoup d’avoir lu !
