the gorgug-porter conversation is interesting to me because like. yea for the overwhelming majority of the conversation porter’s being shitty & trying to fit gorgug into a box that gorgug just does not fit into by trying to make gorgug’s relationship with his rage more focused on the aggression aspect of it. but then there’s also this specific thing that brennan brought up again in the ap, which is that gorgug’s relationship with his rage is wholly “this is a tool i use to protect my friends.” which isn’t a bad thing! but that’s his Whole relationship with it, & gorgug seems to place next to no value on his rage in relationship to himself. which is problematic, because it’s first & foremost his rage.

being raised in a household with a sort of toxic positivity largely meant that, whether or not it was his parents’ intention, gorgug internalized the message that more traditionally “negative” emotions such as anger are the wrong response to something. part of the reason he prioritizes his artificing is probably because it’s “fixing” things. in comparison to being a barbarian, which gorgug associates with “breaking” things. good vs. bad behavior, in his eyes.

it’s a totally unacceptable bar to measure a 16 y/o by, but i do think part of porter’s reasoning for not letting gorgug multiclass is him recognizing that gorgug generally does not value anger as a valid emotional response to something, at the very least for himself. & that directly conflicts with what being a barbarian is, because whether you like it or not, that rage is what fuels you. but again, barring a kid from pursuing something they deeply care about in part (not entirely, porter has a lot of more bullshit reasons) because of their fundamental values & world outlook is crazy.

so yes, 98% of porter’s reasoning is pretty shitty, immature, rife with a toxic view that there’s only one proper way to access rage, & generally not a good thing to do as a teacher, but also within that reasoning is the 2% of ‘there is a fundamental part of yourself that you only value if you can use it to take care of other people & you need to accept that as something that can take care of you, too.’ but that’s something to discuss with a therapist or a guidance counselor, not something that should hugely impact gorgug’s academic future.

I think the reason why I can't fully sink into the popular interpretation of most KaiNess is like... yeah I love a manipulative blondie and a round-eyed partner who's obsessed with him and thinks he hung the moon, and yeah sure the idea of them being genuinely abusive and unhealthy is fun and games.

But I think if you buy too deep into that, you'd forget Ness's ego in the process, right? Ness follows Kaiser, passes to him, gives him his reading glasses and lowers his head to him because it obviously makes him feel good about himself. Kaiser choosing Ness was deliberate and the best option on hand at the time, but Ness's POV of it is already written in the pages: to believe in Kaiser, believe in the impossible, is to affirm that magic is a sustainable source of motivation in his world. It's so that Ness, a stubborn genius-type who's been shown to waver in a pinch, doesn't have to question his own beliefs when Kaiser is there.

But seeing as BLLK's whole theme of change and evolution and throwing away parts of yourself that don't serve your purpose, I look forward to seeing what else KNSH has in store for Ness and KINS. Half the fun of it is seeing what he establishes as canon- just so long Ness doesn't get the Yukimiya treatment of course.

i’m not looking to start flame wars here but i feel like a good chunk of the criticism people have about avery’s pov in prague is that she’s too horny for jameson compared to previous books and while i respect and acknowledge that criticism i feel like it fails to account for the fact that avery is a simple human girl, alone in a foreign city with her boyfriend who came up with a whole intricate game just for her. and also most teenage boys are afflicted with chronic horny disease and sometimes it’s contagious. especially under the circumstances i mentioned before. and while we may not have a ton of textual evidence of avery’s hornyjail thoughts, we have plenty of that from jameson (in regards to avery.) again, horny disease can be contagious. it’s not avery’s fault she’s sick 💔

I think we don’t talk enough how Oda specifically pointed out that both mihawk and crocodile are similar, both suffered betrayal and are distrusting. I like cross guild but there’s something so beautiful about two extremely distrusting similar man finally finding comfort and trust in one another. I need them to bond over this. In a way all of cross guild members got betrayed. they got hurt and now have therapy group, it’s beautiful.

ALRIGHT buggy is half betrayed, his “backstabber” is still happy to see him lmao. Which is hilarious if something truly awful happened to the rest

Okay, but this is actually SO funny because I imagine Mihawk and Crocodile being super tragic about their experiences and Buggy being all dramatic about his and going "wow we have ALL suffered so much WE are in so much pain" and you have his boyfriends looking at him with deadpanned faces like "dear, I don't know how to tell you this, but breaking up with your childhood best friend is not as traumatic as you think" and Buggy actually gasps in the loudest of ways because how could he say that??????????? He has daddy issues and had a rough break up with his BFF, nobody suffers more than adult men going through teenage girl issues

Thinking about One Lousy Kiss... Anita vs Anni.

One lousy kiss. One lousy kiss used to mean so much to Jesper that it defined him. (Sidenote, do you ever think about the parallel between nobody knowing Jesper and Anni kissed, and since she's gone there's no one to corroborate it, now it's just a memory that only lives in Jesper's head VS Khan's lie at the beginning about kissing Målin...)

Anyway. He must've kissed Anita countless times, right? She was his girlfriend for 4 years! Yet none of the intimacy he shared with Anita (I know, I know, barf) meant anything to Jesper.

The suitcase scene fucking destroys me, when she realises he just has his life neatly folded and tucked away underneath the bed, ready to leave at any time. It was there long before you, he says. The worst part is, I think Jesper says this as a kindness. Like, don't feel bad - this has nothing to do with you. He doesn't even realise how truly horrifying that is, but Anita does: "as if I didn't exist at all." Yeah. This has nothing to do with you. You're supposed to be my life partner, but you left no mark on my life. I didn't let you. I never saw you as an equal (you weren't). This has nothing to do with you. Shudder.

He also thinks he's being kind/fair to her when he gives her his properties, because - like giving Khan an expensive shirt - that's all he has to offer: monetary value. No sympathy, empathy, or genuine remorse.

Even in the end, when he has what seems to be a little breakdown mourning Tereesz, building a black tomb for his friend's gun (just like the black box he kept his previous memorabilia, the scrunchie, in), all he has to express his grief with is cold, hard cash.

sometimes I wonder if people in this fandom ever read the source material because some of the takes I see on here are genuinely the opposite of how people are characterized. no, two-bit would not take over for darry if anything happened to him, no dally isn't secretly soft he's mean and has a cruel streak and genuinely only cares about his friends, no steve doesn't hate ponyboy he's just rough and closed off and pony is jealous of him, the only rivalry they have exists in ponyboy's head. yes, ponyboy is an unreliable narrator, he's fourteen. no ponyboy is not a spineless, tearful baby he's a teenager who canonically hates being coddled, what's not clicking?
