petrichor | 2.8k words | oneshot | 18trip // kafkae

Pitter, Patter. Pitter, Patter. Pitter, Patter.
Water droplets stain the glass windows in Kafka’s hospital room. The never-ending quiet yet simultaneously loud downpour slowly but surely came to a halt. The boy, surely not older than ten years old, remains in his bed motionlessly, quietly watching each drop fall from their own place.
Each and every drop eventually slid down the glass. Some took time to do so, others fell easily as fast as they would be replaced. Every single one. Without fail, these raindrops would leave their resting place and without a doubt, fall flat onto the concrete outside.
It was a calming sight, Kafka thought. He could watch them forever if he didn’t get so bored of it so quickly. He had lost interest in less than five minutes, resuming to be alone with his own thoughts. As if being left with what plagues his mind was any better. Thinking about it only made his head hurt.
Someday, would he be like these drops, too?
Would he, without realizing it—fall to his death without anyone else sparing him a glance? His life hangs upon a thin line between life and death, after all. One day, he could simply collapse and everything he had lived for would be over in an instant. All of his joys and sadness were soon forgotten by the masses. How would his father feel? Sure, he wasn’t as close to him as he was with his mother and all—he’s still family regardless.
Pitter, Patter. Pitter, Patter. Pitter, Patter.
The rain had finally stopped. A shame, he loved it too.
It was during this time that he had remembered something a friend, perhaps his closest one, said… He said that when the rain stops, they’d go on an adventure together. Kafka wonders—if that boy, Hamasaki Kaede, still remembers? It happened a few days ago, and knowing how children, especially at his age, are forgetful… He wouldn’t put too much faith into it.
So Kafka sighs and lets his hospital bed confine him there for how long… Who knows? He’s partially given up.
Seems like Kaede-chan won’t be visiting today anyway, so why bother? Although he would check the rooftop garden of the hospital first to see if he was there. He always did, and without fail, he’d find him.
Keeping that in mind, Kafka, who had not felt the prick of the IV drip’s needle in his veins in a while, was free. Thus, he got up and left his room without a word to Sakujiro. He’d be furious for sure, but that comes after he’s met Kaede.
The journey to the rooftop all by himself proved itself to be an adventure too. That if, and only if you could call it one. Kafka stumbled a few times and found it difficult to take the stairs… Weird how he had resulted in using it in order to not be caught. Still, it was exhilarating! The thrill of the feeling of not being seen by anyone, how he had snuck into an elevator when it was loading people. Sure, it got crowded, but no one seemed to care! All of them had their personal businesses and could not be bothered to even look in his direction. Something as simple as that… wasn’t it fun?
At last, he had reached the rooftop. The smell of rain, its puddles and the dew left on the leaves of the plants—how he longed for the world beyond the hospital walls. Naturally, as he had expected, he too would be there…
“Ah, Kafka…! Why are you here?” Kaede, who had been carrying an umbrella, now folded into its shape when not opened, rushes to his side almost immediately.
“Mm… It stopped raining, so I guess I thought I could go out for a while…” Kafka makes an excuse, embarrassed that he had been caught in the act. The act of ‘playing it cool ‘til Kaede-chan arrives to play’, of course! He couldn’t have guessed that Kaede would be stopping by when the downpour is still on the rise.
“Momiji was busy packing up with Pops for our next trip so uh— I kinda got bored of doing that and well, wouldn’t you know it? I’m here all of a sudden, haha!” Kaede simply also makes an excuse. So carefree and light, he sure is.
The boy, still in his pajamas and cardigan, puffs up his cheeks in annoyance, “Not very funny when you ditched Momiji-chan alone. Meanie.”
“She’ll understand~ Don’t worry ‘bout it.”
“Still…”
“Kafka.” Kaede mouths as he walks closer and closer.
He takes his hand in the other’s, quietly interlocking their fingers together.
“Isn’t it about time I fulfill what I promised you the other day?”
Full of hope, the younger boy asks, “You remembered…?”
“How could I forget? You were so happy about it that I couldn’t get it off my mind even if I wanted to!” Kaede exclaims.
“So, Kafka.” He pauses, to make sure he holds the other’s hands tightly. Kafka’s hands were cold but he quickly warmed them up with his own. “Let’s go on an adventure right now, you and me!”
His smile, one of which Kafka thought was the best in the world, shines the brightest amongst the flowers in this garden. It’s like the rays of sunlight, peeking through the thick clouds brought by rain. He loved that smile.
He wanted to bask in its light forever.
“Mhm…! Let’s!”
—
Sneaking out into the garden is one thing, but Kafka has never, not once in his short life on earth ever dared to go out of the hospital. But Kaede-chan told him it’ll be okay, so he believed him. He trusts him with his life, so even if this adventure of theirs ends in failure, he’s sure that he won’t regret it. Not now, not ever.
Now that’s out of the way, how on earth did they even do that?
Simple: security was lacking. You’d think that the hospital where the 0th ward’s mayor’s son is confined would have top security? No way! Well, they sure did up their security after this incident, so it went well somehow?
It went too well that it was suspicious, Kafka thought at the time. In the end, all that worrying would only hinder his time together with Kaede, so he completely forgot about it.
(Despite their measures, Karigane Sakujiro, of course, was secretly tailing them from behind.)
“Kaede-chan, where are we going?” “I’ve got a plan, no worries! But it would be bad if we don’t return as soon as we can… ”
“Y-Yeah… It’s also a bit late in the afternoon now.” A bit after 3pm, Kafka guesses. A few minutes of walking later, they had finally made it into town.
HAMA is busy with the hustle and bustle as ever. Speedy cars drive through the roads. The children are walking home from school or playing. Any older student and citizen appeared as if they were having fun under the blue sky, where the sun shines the brightest. The water puddles left by the rain had begun to evaporate, making each step less of a risk. Kaede was thankful for it, if it meant he wouldn’t be slipping and falling on his butt.
“Ah, Kafka. Don’t let go of my hand, ‘kay? Um, I don’t want you getting lost…” He warned, gripping his freezing hand tighter.
“Hehe, we’ve already gone this far, Kaede-chan. I won’t get lost, don’t worry.” The boy returned the gesture. “...Your hands are warm.”
“Maybe that’s just the way it is? Momiji said the same thing.”
Kaede runs through his bag with his free hand, eventually picking out a magazine-like book, strung together messily and held up by sewn in strings. “I made a guide book for today! Sorry it doesn’t look like the best…” This guidebook is very clearly handmade and drawn, with tiny pictures accompanying the walls of text talking about which places are which.
“I don’t care if it doesn’t look ‘the best’... Kaede-chan made it for me, and that’s what makes it special.”
‘You… really put a lot of thought into this, didn’t you?’
(Sakujiro could feel himself holding back his tears while tailing them. Quietly, of course.)
The pair of boys pass by a shop that sold taiyaki, the kind that comes out piping hot and made to order by the vendor. Both of them got a whiff of the smell of red bean paste, custard, and chocolate fillings from the store.
“Kaede-chan, that’s…!” Kafka points out the drawing in the guidebook he carried in his arms. “Taiyaki! You wanna get some?” Smiling, Kafka said the plain obvious, “Mhm…! I mean, they’re shaped like fish…”
“Here goes Mr. Fisherman…” Kaede muses. “Fine, I’ll go snag two for us. What flavor do you want?”
“Uh, red bean paste.” “Aye-aye sir! Then I’ll get a different one in case you don’t like how it tastes.”
Kaede seamlessly communicates with the old lady running the shop. He even manages to introduce Kafka to her, as his friend that rarely went to explore their city. The sweet old lady was charmed by their appearances, and put in extra filling with no questions asked. The runaways thank her for her time and sit down at a nearby bench to eat.
“Well, is it good?” “It’s sweet, and fluffy and…!” “Really? Lemme have a bite!”
He pouts in annoyance. “Kaede-chan, no faaaair. You have your own. Hmph.”
“Eh? Then, at least lemme wipe that away. You’ve got something on your face.” Kaede mentions, brushing away the remaining paste at the corner of his friend’s lips. This sudden causes him to blush red, then scarf down the rest of the pastry, only hearing laughter from the older kid.
Well, at the very least, Kafka scored a point there.
“Kaede-chan, you dummy.”
After finishing their snacks, they had somehow wandered into… Chinatown? 4th Ward, if Kafka was remembering things right.
“Woah, the sights have changed in an instant…” “That’s HAMA’s Chinatown for you. It’s real pretty here. Here, you wanna take pics? I brought my DigiCam!”
“Eh… Um… Like this…?” He strikes a pose, well not really as it’d been a lopsided peace sign.
“Yeah, like that. 3, 2, 1, welcome to HAMA!”
“W-Welcome to HAMA…!”
The kids proceed to get meat buns and siumai afterward. Next it was stopping by this small shopping street in the same area where everyone knew each other. A place where everyone seemed to laugh and get along so well. The vendors and locals were more than eager to welcome them into their humble stores. It was nice, that sort of thing. This is ‘hospitality’, isn’t it?
All of the exhaustion from walking and strolling around left them tired. After a bit of a rest, the boys found themselves climbing a tall flight of stairs, extending itself up to the sky. At the very least, that was how it seemed to two young children. It led up to the Landmark Tower, where they decided to go even further, into their sky garden, one that reminds Kafka of the one in the hospital, only that he thinks that the view from there was a lot prettier.
“You know, Kafka, when I was doing my research, well it was school related but… I thought I could spot your hospital room from here. It’s kinda silly, isn’t it?”
“Mm, not really. But um, I think it’s over there,” He points at it. Needless to say, he was completely right?! One look from the binoculars they had set up could confirm it but it was still far away and all…
“Seriously?! You can see it?!”
“Yep.” Kafka nods. “But knowing you did your best is enough, hehe…”
At some point in time, Kaede would take Kafka down to the main port in the 0th ward. It was nearing the peak of summer, and the heat had only died down due to the rain earlier… Yet the smell of it lingers amongst its surroundings.
Kaede leaned on the railings with a satisfied look on his face.
“We’re finally here at our last stop. Look, look, the sunset’s happening…!”
The blazing sun turns its surrounding sky orange, while the purple and blue hues of the dark night chases behind it. If it wasn’t enough, the sun’s reflection on the sea waters dye it with its own color, creating an extraordinary view. It’s overpowering—that smell of the sea.
“It’s pretty.”
“Right?! The view from this area is juuuust right, I think. It’s open enough to see the waters stretch far out as the eye can see!”
In a soft, almost inaudible whisper, Kafka inches closer to Kaede to say, “...Thank you.”
“About this? You’re more than welcome! Seeing you so happy today also made me really happy.” The older one replied with a matching sheepish smile.
“Mm, Kaede-chan, on this guidebook you made… What was the ‘made-up’ company you made up called again?”
“Oh, that? It’s called ‘Hama Tours’...! I can tell you more when we return— Oh crap, we really should—!”
In the end, they never really made it back before the sun had fully set, did they? They ended up on the rooftop of that building where the nice lady who sold tasty bentos allowed them to climb up and take in the nightly sights of HAMA. For some reason, the two talked all about building Hama Tours for real when they got older. Not that Kaede actually took it too seriously, he’d never had the funds to actually do that…
At least one of them did, look at what the future is now.
(Yes, Sakujiro did manage to pick them both up from that rooftop and take them back to the hospital before Rihito found out.)
(He sure did nearly collapse when he did find out about it though. The siblings thought it was kind of funny.)
—
In the present day…
“Chief-chan~ look, look. The rain’s stopped.” Kafka looks out of the window and turns to the direction of where Kaede’s cubicle, now the Chief of Hama Tours, was located.
“Mm? Yeah, it did.” He also turns to look, acknowledges it and returns to his own paperwork. “Soooo?” “So what…? Don’t leave me hanging here…”
Kafka pouted, “It’s July 1st.”
“Ah.” Kaede remembers. He remembers it too well. “Uh, happy great escape adventure anniversary…?”
“That’s not what I… Alright, forget it!”
“Can you not sulk during office hours? Fine, let’s go to the rooftop after work.” Kaede lets out an exasperated sigh.
He completes his work in a jiffy, mostly concerning Day2’s lesson plans, then heads onto the rooftop by himself to wait for Kafka. (They both had clocked out early, it seems.) It did not take much time for him to show up, calm and collected.
“It’s been over a decade since then, huh, Kafka?” Kaede smiles, handing him a bottle of juice he had bought earlier in case they were about to lose track of time while they were here.
“Mm, yeah. I still won’t forget about when you messed up your Mandarin for a bit back there in Chinatown.”
“Hey now.” It was Kaede’s turn to sulk and pout.
“Hehe.” Kafka opened, “Since then, when we talked about opening Hama Tours for ourselves, I’ve always thought of turning that dream, no matter how childish it was, into reality. Plus I knew it also had to be based here, in this very building where it was ‘born’. Was that selfish of me?”
“I don’t think it is. In fact, when I got the address for the office, I thought that it might’ve been a prank or some other thing.”
“I won’t ever do that sort of a prank you know~” Kafka sits down next to Kaede, resting his head on the other’s shoulder. Kaede didn’t particularly mind, Kafka had been clingy since he was a kid so this sort of thing is something he was used to.
“Even in this area, the sunset in HAMA is really pretty.”
“So uh… Um… Chief—no, Kaede-chan.” His breathing hitches, and for a moment, his heartbeats almost stopped. The red tinting of his cheeks were concealed by the setting sun. “Mm? I’m listening.” “Uh, when you have the time… Can we go on an adventure like that again? Just the two of us.”
Kaede takes hold of his childhood friend’s hand.
“Sure. Anytime.”

April-May 2024 joseimuke mobile game blitz postmortem:
Tokyo Debunker's existence still makes me want to pull my hair out and my friends keep seeing ads for it or even JOB LISTINGS FROM ITS COMPANY and they send these to me because I'm an avowed Tokyo Debunker hater so I feel like it's haunting me. I wish literally any other game had gotten the translation attention that it did. I want to scream
Stellarum of the Fragile Star, uh... Exists... And apparently their terms explicitly outlaw fantranslation which is wack (why not do what every other game does and let it exist in a gray zone? You can still C&D translations even if you don't outlaw them? Why cut the possibility off like that?) so I have no intent of trying it either way
18trip fandom ended up treating my friend who was translating for it so terribly that I kind of just have no interest in engaging with this one outside my friend's translations specifically. Consider me a very casual fan
Break My Case managed to fuckign GET me. The story and characters are sooo good. The dynamics between the characters really do absolutely hit that grounded, relatable feeling they were going for and it makes me feel like all these blorbos are my best friends for real. Also I love puzzle. I outlined a fic for bremai this morning I think I live here now
Ride Kamens I did not even end up engaging with because I watched a bunch of Kamen Rider to prepare for it and realized that the things I love about Kamen Rider are absolutely not the things I like about joseimuke games so I stopped caring about ride kamens. I keep hearing good things though, this is in the "maybe someday" category

is it gay to go on a date with your singing partner? | 2.5k words | oneshot | 18trip // taokina
kinari seems to be bothered by something during karaoke practice. and tao notices. (he always does.)
“I think this is a good place to end practice today.”
“Yes, I surmise so as well. Our harmonization has gone up by 0.99% today. Not a terrible result.”
Tao places down the mic right where it rightfully belongs, Kinari ends up doing the same as well. It’s a routine during vocal practice at karaoke at this point, given how frequent this event happens mostly during their off days. Tao cannot count how many times on both of his hands’ fingers this exchange has gone.
Time and again, it would be the same thing repeating. The two of them would spend around three hours in one of the karaoke booths, singing. At times they’d give advice and point where the other is lacking out. Simply as that.
The drinks they bought earlier were barely touched. Droplets slide down the glass, slightly sparkling under the artificial lights that illuminate the room. Tao shrugs his shoulders, then downs the drink, a glass of cola that’s now been diluted by the melting ice, in one swig.
“That was rather impressive.” Kinari praises, eyes curving up a little. By a miniscule point, even.
“Haaaah… Not really, just thought it’d be a waste if we leave without consuming these.” Tao defends himself, wiping away at the residual liquid by his lips. “You… don’t really need to drink that, right…?”
The android nods, yet still takes the other glass and does the same thing the Tao did anyway.
“Where does all of that liquid go…?”
“I can eject it out of the system in the human restrooms.”
“Ehhhh, ‘that so?”
The pair begin to prepare to make their exit out of the booth, making sure their time spent within was paid, and whatnot. Checking on their belongings, if there were any forgotten items and whatnot. Thanks to Kinari’s scanning or something, it was done in a jiffy, and they both leave the establishment right after paying.
Still, there was something weighing on Tao’s mind.
Something was off. He knows so. That, compared with his innate observational ability that Chihiro has commented on multiple times before, he should be able to put his finger on what was bothering him for the past few hours.
“...*sigh*...”
There it was.
Kinari lets out his about, maybe 5th? sigh during the entirety and even after that practice session. Truth be told, Kinari simultaneously was both difficult and easy to read. According to Tao, of course. Somewhat unpredictable at times, but definitely not on Kuguri’s level. Again, basing on Tao’s own observations. His words, not the poor narrator’s.
See, the thing about Kinari, even though it is more often than not that he was expressionless, or that because of his metal body that he seemed to be stiff in action, speech and whatnot… He still displayed copious amounts of micro-reactions and comments primarily directed to himself as if thinking out loud.
Oftentimes, Tao would hear him murmuring his own observations to himself. At other times, Kinari would be as still as a mouse, likely internally sorting out the data he’s collected. This time, it’s sort of a blur—a mix of those other two times. Not only does Kinari look visibly troubled by how his brow arches a little too closely knit with each other, or how many times he had sighed during the ordeal, or how he almost missed his cues at some parts during their practice, or—
Wait, maybe that’s it? Could it be related to singing? This has happened before their First Tour, so…
‘But his singing was pretty stable, could it be something else unrelated?’ No use speculating. When the two of them reached the train station, almost absent-mindedly due to both of their minds being occupied by their own thoughts—neither of them had noticed where they were. Though, when Kinari finally snaps out of it, he’d also be first to point it out.
“...It appears that I have made a fatal error.” He mutters. “Let’s turn back, Tao.”
“Huh?” Tao’s consciousness returns from the train of thought running in his brain. He glances at the surrounding area, immediately understanding his main vocal partner’s words, then nods. “Yeah. I didn’t notice either. Don’t worry about it, Kinari.”
As they both make their way to the bus stop, Tao begins to mull over what approach he should take so he could get the other to talk about his conflict. Better late than never, considering it might also affect their performances. That, and he’s quite concerned, too.
(After all, Kinari acted a bit strangely before and during his Feature Tour. He reverted back to a ‘normal’ state soon after, who knows what happened then.)
“Uh, Kinari, sorry if I’m overstepping my bounds a bit here—” He opens his mouth, and finally so. Kinari turns towards him, tilting his head a little. “Are you.. feeling well? You’ve just been a bit out of it today…” Their eyes met each other’s. Tao’s done for, isn’t he? He can’t particularly hide anything from Kinari, not when he has that handy biometric scan function.
“Are you worried?” He asks.
“Is… it that obvious?” Tao returns a question for an answer. Kinari spills, as if to take the other too literally, “Your heart rate has been steadily rising for 5 minutes and 49 seconds since we left the station. Further records show that since we left the karaoke booth—” “Ah, hey, I get it already—! Um, so… If there’s anything bothering you… I… Uh… Wanted to know if there’s something I could do…” His voice was loud and clear at first, gradually descending into quietness as he spoke further. By the end of it, he had completely whispered all of his words, and was barely even heard anymore.
The android appears to be mildly shocked, then perplexed, putting up his hand to his chin to think about it. (Was it Tao’s imagination or did he see him smile from the corner of his field of vision?) Thankfully, if there was one thing the seasoned gamer knew, is that this guy is extremely honest. To the point where he’d even question whether or not he has his own secrets or not.
A few minutes of pondering come to pass, and Kinari opens his mouth then.
“...I still cannot seem to properly express what I want to in my singing.” He admits, expression mildly sullen.
Bullseye. Right on the mark. A clean hit, even.
“It has become a hindrance, as though it is possible I’ve gone into a ‘slump’ where I cannot improve on what I lack,” Kinari appends, a 6th sigh of the day escapes him as soon as he finishes talking.
“That again, huh? You’re saying you can’t sense any improvement from yourself or something similar.” “Precisely as such. I do not know if this is because of the ‘error’ I experience occasionally or a different matter, but as it stands, I appear to be feeling some sense of ‘dissatisfaction’ pertaining to my singing function.” He pauses to turn to the other party. “I apologize for causing you worry, Tao, but it should be alright so long as I do not hold Ev3ns’ idol activities back.”
“Right…”
It was now Tao’s turn to think. He’s clearly bothered by his lack of expressiveness. Even if he has improved in the past few weeks, bit by bit, there was that air of impatience that Kinari also displayed back in Tottori remaining. It’s not something one can rid of, erased entirely, and to that extent, perhaps he might just need to cool off?
Admittedly, he had his own moments like that too, like when he couldn’t get past certain levels in games… Or if he’s stuck on a certain part of a roguelike RPG. Yep, game analogies definitely make this a whole lot easier.
“Say, Kinari, do you have enough battery to last the entire day?”
A question makes itself known in the air.
“I still have about 60% remaining. Today’s practice did not take much.” An almost instantaneous reply.
“Okay… Then wanna kill some time at the nearest arcade?”
—/—
Yep, maybe it was a mistake to bring Kinari out of everyone in HAMA Tours to the arcade. The same retro one he’s gone to with the Chief before. To be fair, he’s only ever seen the guy go at it on the crane game machines, and that was during his birthday more than a week ago. Not only was Tao utterly destroyed in the shooting games, he was defeated multiple times in a row! Oh, it was definitely on this time.
Kinouchi Tao, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Chrono, losing? Absolutely unthinkable! He must find a strategy to outsmart his opponent and posthaste!
(When was the last time he had fought with someone similarly at an arcade? Ah, he can’t remember. Although, he can clearly remember his defeated expression, sulky and upset—cheeks puffed up and repeatedly challenging him to another round. Unable to resist that person’s complaining, he distinctly recalls their group of three going for ice cream right after…
The way that guy’s mood flipped back to being all sunshine and no rain once he was satisfied, it seared into the back of his mind.)
“Another round, Tao?” This Kinari throws a jab at him, pointing the controller gun at the opposing party, as if to provoke him further.
Thus, by then some adrenaline rush had kicked in, Tao muses, “I won’t lose this time for sure…!”
…Only to lose that very round right after his strong declaration.
How could this be? He was sure of his abilities! How is it possible that he only faced defeat in the face of—well, he literally did have the face of an old friend… That aside, who knew that Kinari was this good?! Should he ask him out more to practice with…? Besting him in a match would make for a fine achievement, he thinks. No wait, isn’t this more like…
‘Ghk… Is that asshole taking revenge on me from the grave?! Is that it?!’
Uh, yeah sure, whatever makes you feel better.
“Should I have gone easier on Tao, I wonder?” Kinari’s thoughts slip out loud.
Tao sends a glare his way, “Don’t even think about it.”
“Understood. Then, I’ll give it my all in the following matches.” He decides to sit next to the other while clutching the remaining spare tokens in his hands. Kinari contemplates over what to do with them, but ultimately cannot come to a proper conclusion. Tapping the other’s shoulder, he catches his attention and gestures for him to put out his palm. Only then did he silently pass over the leftover coins.
He reasons, “I do not know what else to do with them, so go ahead and use them as you please.”
Tao receives the tokens with gratitude, his gaze traveling over to the crane games filled with numerous plushie designs. Some were stuffed animals, some were clearly in the visage of anime or manga characters… In fact, where has he seen this brown haired one before…? Doesn’t matter, he points at the section with his index finger. “I think I’ll go for one or two rounds of those. You can take the spoils, I’ve got no room anyway.”
Yeah, not when your roommate has TuRyStA merch all over and you have game consoles decking all of the shelves. Oops, that slipped. Plus, the android was in severe need of more stuff all things considered. Kinari’s iridescent, glass-like eyes seem to light up, “Might I make the suggestion of taking one of those character plushies back? I owe Kurama-sama a favor for the other day.”
Tao sat up from the bench, stretching as a way to finally lock in on the new target, “Yeah? Alright, which one…?”
It took two attempts. Two. Light work for someone as good as Tao. Well, a win is a win, no point in comparing himself to the kappa merch haul Kinari did. Alas, the nui was now in their hands, and one can almost imagine how Ushio would react to this.
“...Thank you.”
“No problem. Next? We’ve got two more attempts.”
At this point, Kinari has no actual follow up ideas. Feeling as though putting the burden on the other might be a bit much, he scans the surrounding machines if there is anything of interest. He eventually landed on a crane game with decently sizable prize plushies inside.
“Whichever one of them seems good. I don’t particularly have any preferences.”
“Mm, ‘kay. Guess I’ll go for…”
The coin was inserted through the slot in a jiffy, and the crane hook made its first move. First to the right, then to the left, a little forward, until it reached what appears to be a safe spot for the hook to dive down and claim the item as a prize. The android observes all of this happening, as he was the one doing the lifting prior, watching is a different story.
Quite an entertaining sight to behold, he notes.
In a single and first attempt, the white cat plushie was now in Kinari’s arms. “...It’s scented.” He comments, taking a whiff of the mild vanilla scenting on the plush toy.
Plan… successful? What Tao wanted was to at least temporarily have him relax from the things that have been bothering him, so the psychological damage from losing several matches in a row was worth it. At least he hoped so. And he looks happy enough, with how he hugs the toy close, almost burying his entire face into it. It’s… really cute.
Huh, what? No way. While that’s true, he’s never actually thought of him that way…? Could be just him finally understanding how Chihiro feels about the guy. Yeah, that’s probably it.
“You seem happy, at least. That’s good.”
“Mhm,” Kinari nods, now displaying another one of his smiles, this time the kind that’s as gentle and fitting his demeanor. “Tao, come closer? It will not take longer than a second.” He requests, setting down the cat plushie to the arcade bench.
“Yeah? What’s—”
Chu.
A lower than average temperature made contact with the skin on Tao’s cheeks. That was barely a kiss, nor a peck, even. But the sudden contact and the someone who did it caused the temperature in that area to rise. There was an indescribable heat all over his body now. Embarrassment? Or something else entirely? He didn’t know, he just wanted to get rid of his stupid red-stained cheeks and ears now!
Kinari says nonchalantly, “Thank you. For today. It was fun.”
“A-Ah yeah… Just don’t do this the next time? People might get the wrong idea. Where did you even learn this…?”
“Chihiro and Kuguri are quite physically affectionate individuals, so therefore I tried to emulate…” Confused, Kinari tries to give the other person the proper reasoning behind his actions.
Tao exhales, covering his face with both hands, “Yeah, please don’t do this again. And especially don’t get influenced by them.”
‘...Did I make a miscalculation?’

About This Blog
ao3feed-18trip is an automated blog meant to repost links and story summaries for new published works from the TWST AO3 tag. The fics are formatted and posted automatically to this blog by an IFTTT app.
However, due to the fact that the previous Tumblr Legacy format was revised, the blog’s moderator will instead manually edit the reposts of the links and summaries, as well as tag them appropriately before posting.
Please be aware that the content shared here may not align with the moderator’s values. The Archive can contain disturbing material, and exposure to such content in the main tag may be triggering for some individuals.
As such, the moderator cannot guarantee that this page is safe for minors. If you wish to avoid such content, feel free to unfollow or block this blog.
Finally, the moderator would like to reiterate that, at its core, this blog ultimately only aims to update and keep track of fanfics added to the 18TRIP tag, as there is currently a scarcity in 18TRIP fanfiction.
That would be all. HAMA Nice Trip!

I (16M) am a fan of PatiBato. Surely, you all know what PatiBato is, right. It’s a shounen manga series about youth, rivalry, and friendship where aspiring patissiers duke it out with each other through pastry making competitions. It’s a must-read, I assure you. It’s just the best series there is! Especially since it has Chiyoda Reito, the LOML, the one who made me realize what it means to be alive— …And yes, my beloved Reito is related to this post btw…because I met someone who looks exactly like him IRL. Insane, isn’t it?

Sure, they don’t get along, but Ushio likes to think that he’d be a better fake boyfriend than Akuta. He’s read enough BL to know exactly what to say to have someone like Nanaki swooning, even if it is a little cringe-worthy.
Or, the classic Christmas fake dating fic.
