1. Harry Potter

2. Superman

Just like any superhero, Superman has been embodied by many actors. From Christopher Reeve in the 80s, to Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, there have been many famous adaptations for the big screen in the last century. There’s a total of eight Superman films (including Batman v Superman and Justice League), all promising a fun adventure watching the man in blue tights fly through the sky, fight off iconic supervillains, and save the day.

The caped vigilante is one of the greatest DC heroes on Earth, and his movies are some of the best on the planet (if you’re ignoring the worst movie sequel, Quest for Peace). So, if you’ve yet to tuck into the long legacy of Superman movies, now’s the right time.

3. Marvel Cinematic Universe

Films: 32 Hours to Binge-Watch: 60+h

These movies can be watched in any order, but try to stick to the correct MCU timeline if you truly want to understand what’s going on. Tuck into some Iron Man action, swing through New York with Spider-Man, or have a laugh with Ant-Man. This franchise is so addictive (and occasionally silly), you’ll be begging for more by the end…if there even is one (more MCU movies are on their way!).

The MCU isn’t exactly easy to summarize – there are over 30 movies to date! But if you like watching powerful superheroes get together to fight the bad guys, you’ll be satisfied. From the Earth-defending Avengers to the space-cruising Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel films have a lot of action to give, but also a lot of heart. The MCU might also be the best there is out there for visual entertainment!

Synopsis of my project:

Several decades ago in the early 21st century, an asteroid reshaped the world and also reshaped how the nations cooperate through a merger of multiple government agencies that creates the Terra Firma Coalition and has become the global governing force on the planet. The asteroid unknowingly becomes a beacon that attracts a few other alien civilizations that declare Earth as the “center of the universe” and the coalition grows stronger than ever…

On the dawn of the 22nd century, a Powerful alien race described as oversized sea pigs called the Auzidyne Order is conquering this world and have perverted half of the world’s declining population against the TFC and war eventually breaks out. Our unknown protagonist named Tabby is a recent guardian sent immediately on a mission to infiltrate an enemy refinery on behalf a disgraced TFC executive, but this is where she gets in on the details, or rather the details show her that she’s much more than just a soldier on the frontline. She will find a transfigurator that proves something unusual and otherworldly in her genetics that can allow her to control… time. And that makes her a target in the eyes of the Auzidyne Order and by the TFC. But it also appears that the reclusive Paradigm Queen of the Auzidyne Order named Alexandra knows much more about the asteroid that crashed into Earth and it concerns the history and origin of the Order, plus how it relates to people like Tabby and where the predestined rock originated from…

Below are what I consider the primary characters. I’ve given each character a number plus a letter that indicates what species they are and for the time being, whose side they’re on: either it’s the TFC or the Auzidyne Order. If they truly have a side to choose…

Relations and notes?

For Auzidynes, Queens mean female and subjects mean male. Queens distinctively have dual brains while subjects have one. Alexandra is the Paradigm of the Auzidyne Order of have species and humans, which means ruler. Malevolence, Vermicula and Verdant are generals of different departments. Malevolence is the general of Power hypnosis and distribution, the cruelest of them all. Vermicula is blind but is the general of bio-weaponry. Verdant is a strategist that commands human forces against the TFC.

Can we say the Mia and Phoenix are rivals? Sure but why aren’t they in the Auzidyne Order anymore? How did Phoenix become a Supersoldier?

Jordan appears much later in the storyline but plays a rather enormous role, no pun intended. She holding a holographic projection of Vesperia to the Vesperian chieftain herself named Nevaeh? But why?

Jayson is Nevaeh’s son and although Beri is in the TFC, she’s Svr. Fidelis’s guard, she adores Jayson so much.

Tabby is the main protagonist and co-guardian alongside Ezekiel over Amaryllis (guardians as in protectors, why would an engineer like Amaryllis need two guardians?). Also the reptilian avatar of Tabby is unveiling itself as well as her capabilities, which looks like a clock?

Gordon is a technician and estranged spouse of Amaryllis. Mariballe is Amaryllis’s sister, who is curious of what’s happening with Tabby but Mariballe is the guardian of Anemone, who is the TFC universal leader of all races. Why is she looking at Ezekiel like that?

I’d say the most curious characters are Malleus the preacher and Oliver, the Auzidyne standing above him. Malleus doesn’t appear intimidated but… doesn’t really trust Oliver either.

There’ll be a post-3rd season group picture followed by post-series finale group picture depending on the storyline progression and how it concerns my in real life situations.

Durante a última semana do mês do orgulho, a Riot PC Cafe decidiu preparar atividades especiais para seus frequentadores. Começando pela melhor parte, durante esse período, terão cupons de desconto disponíveis para a utilização dos computadores do local, ajudando no bolso de quem já é cliente assíduo ou para aqueles que querem ir pela primeira vez conhecer a casa. The Spectacle of Nature: Maria Sibylla Merian’s Insects

This week we are highlighting German-born naturalist and artist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717) whose direct observations of insects led to new insights about metamorphosis. Merian was born in Frankfurt to an artistic family. Her father was Mathias Merian, a prominent publisher and artist who died in 1650 when Maria was 3 years old. A year later, Maria’s mother Johanna Sybilla Heyne remarried Jacob Marrel, a still life painter, who encouraged Maria’s artistic pursuits and taught her copperplate engraving alongside his male pupils. Throughout her life, Maria was fascinated by insects. She would study caterpillars and document their life cycles through drawings. When Maria was 18 years old, she married Johann Graffe, a former apprentice of her stepfather. They moved to Nuremberg and had two daughters, Johanna Helena and Dorothea Maria.

While in Nuremberg, Maria Sibylla Merian made money by selling watercolors and giving artistic lessons in embroidery and painting to wealthy young women. Between 1675 to 1680, she published her books of flowers Blumenbuch in three parts. They were meant to be pattern-design model books for embroidery. Merian published her first scientific book in two parts in 1679 and 1683, Der Raupen wunderbare Verwandlung und sonderbare Blumennahrung (“Caterpillars, Their Wondrous Transformation and Peculiar Nourishment from Flowers”), which served as an important precursor to her landmark work Metamorphosis.

In 1685, Merian left her marriage and entered the spiritual Labadist community in the Netherlands with her daughters and mother. While living with the Labadists, Merian continued to study plants, insects, and frogs. Eventually she withdrew from the community and moved to Amsterdam with her daughters and officially divorced her husband. In the progressive city of Amsterdam, Merian and her daughters were able to open their own studio and work as independent artists. Amsterdam was also the center of world trade at the time due to the endeavors of the Dutch East India Company, and there were numerous natural history cabinets in the city to study from.

In 1699, the 52-year-old Merian, accompanied by her daughter Dorothea, set off on a scientific expedition to the Dutch colony of Suriname in South America. Maria and Dorothea explored the rain forest and directly observed the stages of metamorphosis of insects. The trip only lasted two years because Merian contracted malaria and returned to Amsterdam in 1701 with Dorothea. The two women brought back a wealth of sketches, paintings, observational notes, and specimens.

In 1705, Maria Sibylla Merian published her groundbreaking work Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium. The book was issued in a folio edition of 60 copperplate engravings available in both black-and-white, and hand-colored by the author at extra cost. Merian depicted the metamorphosis of insects by depicting their life cycles and placing them on their food plants in a naturalistic way. Merian died in 1717, and four editions of Metamorphosis were published after her death.

Unfortunately we do not have any of Maria Sibylla Merian’s books here in UW-Milwaukee Special Collections. These images come from UW-Madison Special Collections copy of Der Raupen wunderbare Verwandelung und sonderbare Blumen-Nahrung. I also included images of Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium from USC Special Collections from my experience at California Rare Book School. The Maria Sibylla Merian Society has a great guide to online versions of Merian’s work.

I want my characters to wear gorgeous circlets and tiaras but most of my characters are men and in a similar 17h century setting where, I might be wrong, but it seems to me kings or princes had almost stopped to wear crowns or coronets (except at coronations, duh).

Do you see my problem??? I need people in circlets for the AESTHETIC!

They did stop it unfortunately. There is nothing sexier than anybody in a crown but yes, they stopped because it was just too ostentatious. And besides, if you were a male member of the Royal family people knew who you were with out you telling them.

Stillness before the bells

Beautiful façade and bells Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Dubrovnik. This of 17h Century stone church is nestled in the heart of the city quarter which bears the church’s name. It is early Baroque Period and was built over the ruins of the early medieval church of St John.
