I think what I love about tumblr is that it's asynchronous communication rather than instant, synchronous communication. Sometimes we need that space in between.

NaNoWriMo 2023
Day 10: Words written: 2110 (22155 total) Goal: 1667 (16670 total)
Milestones: Finally wrote enough of Katara's storyline to justify going back and mixing her scenes in with Zuko's to build usable chapter drafts! Also confused myself a lot, because 4 Zuko chapters + 4 Katara chapters somehow = more than 9 Ice & Smoke chapters.
Sneak peek below the cut:
“You two are late.”
This felt very familiar. Possibly because Ty Lee had been in this same tank thing just a week ago when Azula came to fetch her from the circus. That had to be part of it. But also, the way that Azula sat in the very center of the floor, dressed immaculately and lounging disinterestedly while she filed her nails to a point was exactly the sort of thing that Azula always seemed to do. She could manage to fill an entire room all on her own just by being her usual regal, intimidating self.
“It couldn’t be helped,” Mai answered. “We had to take a detour. I was not about to go through the main river crossing. Getting my robes wet is bad enough, but I refuse to deal with mud.”
“And I didn’t mind the mud, but I didn’t want to split up when Mai had the map. What if I’d gotten lost?”
Azula raised an eyebrow at them both before turning her attention back to her nails. “I’m sure the local frog squirrel population would have adopted you, Ty Lee. And frankly, I think a bit of mud would have helped your robes, Mai. At least that might have given them a splash of color.”

Gay Tension! At the Annual Work Mandated Gala
read it on the AO3 at https://archiveofourown.org/works/48867643
by 3musketears
Phoenix’s heart is pounding when Edgeworth lifts his hand, but then he hesitates. In that moment of pause, Phoenix sees years of pressure weighing him down. Miles cried over folding a bad paper crane when he still had the father he idolized to tell him it was okay. Then he was fighting to be good enough in every aspect of his life, not even to be accepted, but to avoid being rebuked.
It’s okay, Phoenix wants to say. Not as a platitude but an assertion. They’re not going to be very good dancers and that’s okay.
Phoenix shoves past his own fear, past that nagging voice telling him to accept rejection. If he puts himself out there to be judged, silly and trivial as his fears may be, then maybe he’ll show Edgeworth how to do that too.
“Can I have this dance?”
***
Maya wants to be Franziska's plus one to the annual Policeman's Ball, which would leave Edgeworth without someone to keep him company through an event he's been dreading. If only there was a spiky haired defense attorney with no life who could do it...

Today, the Church remembers St. Maximilian Kolbe, priest and martyr.
Ora pro nobis.
Maximilian Kolbe (8 January 1894 -
14 August 1941) was a Franciscan friar imprisoned by the National Socialist Gestapo at Auschwitz in 1941 because of his work as a Catholic publisher. He founded and and supervised the monastery of Niepokalanów near Warsaw, operating an amateur-radio station (SP3RN), and founding or running several other organizations and publications.
Because he was a priest, he was treated with particular savagery by the prison guards and given the dirtiest, heaviest work. He ministered to his fellow prisoners, encouraging them to forgive their persecutors and to overcome evil with good. He constantly sacrificed himself for others to the point where a doctor later testified, "In Auschwitz, I knew of no other similar case of such heroic love of neighbor."
After the outbreak of World War II, which started with the invasion of Poland by the National Socialist regime of Germany, Kolbe was one of the few brothers who chose to remain in the monastery, where he organized a temporary hospital. After the town was captured by the National Socialists, he was briefly arrested by them on 19 September 1939 but released on 8 December. He refused to sign the Deutsche Volksliste, which would have given him rights similar to those of German citizens in exchange for recognizing his German ancestry. Upon his release he continued work at his friary, where he and other friars provided shelter to refugees from Greater Poland, including 2,000 Jews whom he hid from German persecution in their friary in Niepokalanów. Kolbe also received permission to continue publishing religious works, though significantly reduced in scope. The monastery thus continued to act as a publishing house, issuing a number of anti-National Socialist publications.
On 17 February 1941, the monastery was shut down by the National Socialist authorities. That day Kolbe and four others were arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned in the Pawiak prison. On 28 May, he was transferred to Auschwitz as prisoner 16670.
Continuing to act as a priest, Kolbe was subjected to violent harassment, including beatings and lashings. Once, he was smuggled to a prison hospital by friendly inmates. Several months after his imprisonment, a prisoner escaped, and the guards gathered ten innocent prisoners to die in reprisal. When one of the selected men, Franciszek Gajowniczek, cried out, "My wife! My children!", Kolbe volunteered to take his place, and the guards accepted his offer. With the nine other condemned men he was stripped of all his clothing and placed in a starvation bunker. According to an eyewitness, who was an assistant janitor at that time, in his prison cell Kolbe led the prisoners in prayer. Each time the guards checked on him, he was standing or kneeling in the middle of the cell and looking calmly at those who entered. At the end of two weeks, he was one of four men still alive. Because they needed the bunker for more victims, these men were injected with a lethal dose of carbolic acid. Kolbe is said to have raised his left arm and calmly waited for the deadly injection. Their bodies were cremated the following day, August 15, the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.
In this icon, Maximilian wears the black Franciscan habit of the Conventual branch of the Order of Friars Minor. Over his arm he carries the jacket of his uniform in Auschwitz. The number on the jacket was the one assigned to him when he arrived, and the red triangle identifies him as a political prisoner. Franciszek Gajowniczek, the man whose place he took, survived the concentration camp and eventually returned to his family.
“No one in the world can change Truth. What we can do and should do is to seek truth and to serve it when we have found it. The real conflict is the inner conflict. Beyond armies of occupation and the hecatombs of extermination camps, there are two irreconcilable enemies in the depth of every soul: good and evil, sin and love. And what use are the victories on the battlefield if we ourselves are defeated in our innermost personal selves?”
Almighty God, by whose grace and power your holy martyr Maximillian triumphed over suffering and was faithful even to death: Grant us, who now remember him in thanksgiving, to be so faithful in our witness to you in this world, that we may receive with him the crown of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Prisoner 16670: “The Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century”
This is how Pope John Paul II described Saint Maximilian Kolbe at the martyr's canonization in 1982. After his mother lost her patience with her son’s immature behavior and asked “What will become of you?”, the young Maximilian turned in tearful prayer to the Holy Virgin with the same question. She appeared and asked if he was willing to accept either of the crowns of purity and martyrdom she offered him. Maximilian accepted both, thus setting the course of his godward life - a true soldier in God’s work and an embodiment of Christ in our times.
As a young Franciscan priest, Saint Maximilian spread the Catholic faith and warred boldly against the rising Nazi regime through the printed word and radio. His apostolic zeal even led him to Japan, where he formed a new monastery. Returning to his homeland of Poland, he sheltered thousands of refugee Jews in his friary. Such burning zeal did not escape the attention of the Gestapo, and in 1941 he was arrested and imprisoned. One guard, seeing the saint’s monastic habit and rosary, asked him if he believed in Christ. When he calmly replied, “I do,” the guard struck him. The guard repeated the question again and again, received the same answer, and continued to beat him.
Eventually deported to Auschwitz, Saint Maximilian - now prisoner 16670 - sacrificed his life for a fellow prisoner in an act of Christian charity that lives on in the memories of all Christians to this day. Saint Maximilian’s feast day is August 14th. Click the link below to read the full story of Saint Maximilian Kolbe’s glorious life, AND TO EVEN MEET THE MAN HE SAVED!

Frühstart, TradingInsights Donnerstag, 01. Februar 2024 Dax & S&P 50
Guten Morgen und Herzlich Willkommen zu TradingsInsights dem Frühstart bei LCW-Managment, der technischen Analyse der Finanzmärkte am Donnerstag 01. Februar 2024.

St Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Conventual Franciscan friar most famous for volunteering to die in place of a stranger at Auschwitz. On February 17, 1941, he was arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned in the Pawiak prison. On May 25, he was transferred to Auschwitz I as prisoner #16670. In July 1941, a man from Kolbe’s barracks vanished, prompting SS-Hauptsturmführer Karl Fritzsch, the deputy camp commander, to pick 10 men from the same barracks to be starved to death in Block 13 (notorious for torture) to deter further escape attempts. (The man who had disappeared was later found drowned in the camp latrine.) One of the selected men, Franciszek Gajowniczek, cried out, lamenting his family, and Kolbe volunteered to take his place. During the time in the cell, he led the men in songs and prayer. After three weeks of dehydration and starvation, only Kolbe and three others were still alive. Finally, he was murdered with an injection of carbolic acid on August 14, 1941. He was canonized by the Catholic Church as Saint Maximilian Kolbe on October 10, 1982, by Pope John Paul II, and declared a martyr of charity. He is the patron saint of drug addicts, political prisoners, families, journalists, prisoners and the pro-life movement. Pope John Paul II declared him the “The Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century.” Father Kolbe was beatified as a confessor by Pope Paul VI in 1971 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 10, 1982, in the presence of Franciszek Gajowniczek. Upon canonization, the Pope declared St. Maximilian Kolbe not a confessor, but a martyr. Although the canonization of St. Maximilian Kolbe is uncontroversial, his recognition as a martyr is, given that a Christian martyr is one who is killed in odium Fidei, and Kolbe wasn’t assassinated strictly out of hatred for his faith. He is one of ten 20th-century martyrs from across the world who are depicted in statues above the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey, London. https://www.instagram.com/p/ChPRbMxO0DN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
