Engine oil: Comparison and opinion to choose the best
You are not unaware that we do not put any motor oil in his vehicle to do the levels and to empty if you do not go through a garage. Needless to say.

Engine oil: all our advices

Check the oil level
Turn the engine off on a flat surface for at least five minutes (best to wait for the car to be downright cold), pull out the dipstick, and then slide it back into place after wiping it off. Remember that excessive oil consumption may indicate significant engine wear or leakage. Nevertheless, modern mechanics can consume up to one liter every thousand kilometers.
Choosing the right engine oil
Intensive or city use
Given the constraints (heating) and performance required if you drive a lot in town, prefer a semi-synthetic or synthetic oil. It protects your engine more, both cold and hot. Disadvantage: it costs twice as much as a conventional lubricant.
Road use

Know your Engine oil grade
Do you know what grading of oil like 0W20 or 10W40 means? Various grades of engine oils are 0W20, 0W30, 10W30, 10W40etc., it looks confusing, right? Let’s break it down and have close look at the grading. But first, we need to know what type of oil to be used?
There are 3 basic types of oils:
1. Mineral Engine Oil:
Petroleum products are used to make mineral oils and it is preferred for the older models of vehicles. Low oxidation stability is the main characteristic of Mineral oils due to which it needs to be changed frequently. As it is not the best quality oil for vehicles, it is very cheaper than other types of oils.
2. Synthetic Engine Oil:
Synthetic oils are best suited for high-performance engines as it is made up by mixing several synthetic components. Using synthetic oils, you don’t need to bother about changing oil for a longer time period as its life is longer than mineral oil. For example, mineral oil runs for 3k to 5k km on the other hand Synthetic oil can go for 12k to 15k km. For the best protection for Indian driving conditions, synthetic engine oils are proven best.
3. Semi-Synthetic Engine Oil:
We can say that semi-synthetic engine oil is a mixture of both mineral oil and synthetic oil. It means it lies between mineral and synthetic oil. Its life span is about 7k to 10k km. It gives the benefits of both, better performance than mineral oil and a better price than synthetic oil.
Now, let’s come to the point we left at starting… Grade.
We usually see on the packs of our engine oils something like 5W30 or 10W40 is written.
What does that actually mean?
This grade is based on the viscosity.
Engine oil is graded by keeping its viscosity in mind which is notated as “XW-XX”.
Let’s understand with an example, let’s take 10W40,
Here 10 stand for the rating of oil at cold temperature. It denotes that the oil has the maximum viscosity of 10W at the low temperature. Here the letter”W” stands for the winter not weight.
The 40 in grade denotes its viscosity at high temperatures. When the temperature gets high the viscosity of oils goes down. Always keep in mind that, the lower the no. the thinner the oil: For example, 30 oil is thinner than 40 oil at high temperature.
Now let’s answer a question that:
What are the different grades of engine oils?
1. 0W40: In the Indian market, this grade is considered as the best performance oil. Its performance is most efficient in both cold and hot climate as it is having the lowest sludge. For modern-day petrol and diesel car engines it is ideal grade oil.
2. 5W40: For diesel cars, this oil is considered as best. It can perform almost the same as 0W40 but not in cold climate conditions. As we all know diesel cars take a longer time to start when it is in cold weather.
3. 10W30 or 5W30: For petrol engines, these are the ideal oil grades. They give good fuel efficiency and are very cost-effective. They have a low viscosity which works best with modern petrol-driven engines.
4. 10W40: This is very cost-effective and very suitable for the Indian climate. Mineral and semi-synthetic variants are available in this grade. It gives a very efficient performance too.
5. 15W40 or 20W50: Usually they are recommended for older engines. Oils of these grades are quite thicker than other grades of oils.
