Daylight - Lover

Daylight was originally the title track for Lover, a concept Album for the 13th year of Taylor's career, when she turned 30. It was first long planned and mentioned in the liner notes of Red.

The song has many references to Red and was possibly started by 2012, while Taylor was still dating Harry, but finished for the album release. Harry references the song in the opening of Fine Line in Golden, Fine Line's 'Daylight' is track 5 and released it on Taylors 30th Birthday.

Lyrics

My love was as cruel as the cities I lived in Everyone looked worse in the light There are so many lines that I've crossed unforgiven I'll tell you the truth, but never goodbye

Taylor is reflecting on the journey to through relationships to this point and choices she regrets. Matured from her view in Red where the other person wronged her Taylor now acknowledged everyone looks worse in the light.

She promises to be truthful but never say goodbye to her muse. This could read as telling all her secrets, or it could also be talking about being in an open relationship. Like So it Goes Taylor won't let him go.

I don't wanna look at anything else now that I saw you I don't wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you I've been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night And now I see daylight, I only see daylight

The chorus repeats the theme of the album, finding the one true love. Sleeping in a 20-year dark night is interesting and there are a few possibilities:

Knowing the song was part of a long term album plan from when she was 22 it may refer to her age when the song was started

20 is a Haylor theme

Luck of the draw only draws the unlucky And so I became the butt of the joke I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked Clearing the air, I breathed in the smoke Maybe you ran with the wolves and refused to settle down Maybe I've stormed out of every single room in this town Threw out our cloaks and our daggers because it's morning now It's brighter now, now

Taylor talks more about her journey to find this love. She references Reputation where she was unlucky, the world turned on her. Including clearing the air (posting about the Kanye phone call) she breathed in the smoke.

My interpretation of wounding the good, trusting the wicked is wounding Harry by trusting Calvin Harris. This is played out in Exile/Woman. Did Something Bad is similar within the Rep period.

Maybe you ran with the wolves and refused to settle down refers to Harry's time with One Direction and womaniser image in that time. One direction also have a song called Wolves where wolves come out at night and come for your heart. Meet me in the Hallway has a similar lyric "I walked the streets all day / Running with the thieves"

Finally Taylor talks of storming out of every room, referring to drama she has had in the industry. There is a similar lyric to throwing out cloaks and daggers to live in peace in Long Story Short "At the golden gates they once held the keys to / When I dropped my sword / I threw it in the bushes and knocked on your door"

And I can still see it all (In my mind) All of you, all of me (Intertwined) I once believed love would be (Black and white) But it's golden (Golden) And I can still see it all (In my head) Back and forth from New York (Sneaking in your bed) I once believed love would be (Burning red) But it's golden Like daylight, like daylight Like daylight, daylight

Taylor sings about being tangled in Wildest dreams, but here intertwined speaks to a longer time.

The next lyrics of love being B&W, Golden are interesting, in out of the woods and Illicit Affairs has described her love with Harry as in screaming colour/colours she can't see with anyone else. But here it is golden, Golden is the opening track to Fine Line Harry released 3 months later on Taylor’s 30th, referencing this line.

Back and forth from NY and sneaking in your bed, is a reference to Harry, they did go back and forth physically with excessive travel from them both and in terms of a relationship. They did sneak to see each other during the 1989 era after breaking up and possibly after.

This verse is a reference to red, Harry was the muse for several Red tracks including the closing Begin Again. This verse also references another Red song Starlight with 'Like daylight' vs "Like we're made of starlight". Starlight is about this photo of Ethel and Bobby Kennedy, another. While CK did fall between TS dating HS, Taylor is referencing the romantaised lasting love here, this reference is what indicates this song may have been started long ago.

This lyric is about letting go of fears, grudges and fights and moving on. This lyric and Lover/Fine Line being released around Taylors 30th birthday make me think she intended to make changes in how her (possibly open) relationship was viewed, but we know what happened after with re-records and the pandemic. The Folklore album lets us know her thoughts were still with this calamitous love.

Bondi is a longtime Trump loyalist

She backed conservative agenda as Florida’s AG

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Within hours of former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., bowing out of his nomination for attorney general, President-elect Donald Trump named former Florida Attorney General and longtime Trump ally Pam Bondi to take Gaetz’s place as his nominee for the country’s top law enforcement position.

'Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families,' Trump said in a statement.

'Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country.'

Bondi, 59, previously served as one of Trump’s defense attorneys during his first impeachment trial.

Trump had talked about bringing Bondi into his first administration, and there was speculation at the time that he might make her attorney general to replace Jeff Sessions in 2018.

Unlike most of Trump’s other, more controversial Cabinet picks for his second term, Bondi has experience in the office she has been nominated for, having served as Florida’s attorney general for eight years under Gov. Rick Scott.

Bondi, a fourth-generation Floridian received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1987 from the University of Florida and a law degree in 1990 from Stetson Law School.

She worked as a prosecutor in Hillsborough County’s 13th Judicial Circuit for nearly 20 years before running for state attorney general.

She won in 2010 and became the first woman in Florida history to hold the office.

During her time in office, Bondi led an unsuccessful multistate lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act, led a statewide effort to eliminate 'pill mills,' pulled the state into a lawsuit against President Barack Obama’s immigration policy, defended Florida’s same-sex marriage ban (although she has said she was simply upholding the Constitution), co-authored a presidential report on the opioid crisis, and worked with multiple agencies and legislators for programs and laws to fight fentanyl trafficking.

Bondi’s connections with Trump

Bondi has long been a Trump supporter.

September 2013:

A spokesperson for Bondi announced that her office was considering joining a lawsuit against Trump after receiving nearly two dozen complaints about Trump University.

Within a week, Bondi’s reelection PAC And Justice for All received a $25,000 donation from the Donald J. Trump Foundation.

Bondi declined to join the lawsuit.

Both she and Trump denied there was a quid pro quo and a state prosecutor cleared them, although the IRS later fined Trump for violating political contribution laws.

When a New York state court ordered the foundation shut down in 2019, this contribution was listed as one of the misuses of it.

July 2016:

Bondi led a 'lock her up' chant against Trump’s opponent Hillary Clinton during her speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

2019:

After leaving office, Bondi became a lobbyist for Ballard Partners, where Trump’s campaign manager and incoming chief of staff Susie Wiles was a partner.

November 2019:

Bondi joined Trump’s defense team during his first impeachment trial, when he was accused of abusing his power by withholding military aid from Ukraine to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to announce an investigation into then-former Vice President Joe Biden.

The Republican-majority Senate acquitted Trump of the charges.

August 2020:

In her Republican National Convention speech, Bondi repeated the unsubstantiated allegations that President Joe Biden withheld U.S. aid to Ukraine unless they fired a prosecutor investigating a company where Biden’s son Hunter served on the board of directors and said the Biden family was corrupt.

November 2020:

Bondi supported, without evidence, Trump’s claims after the election that there had been large-scale voter fraud.

December 2020:

Trump appointed Bondi to the board of trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, one of several prestigious positions he awarded to loyal supporters after his defeat.

November 2023:

Bondi was named chair of the Florida branch of the America First Policy Institute, a think tank created to promote Trump’s public policy agenda.

The nonprofit has produced a transition guide for Trump’s new term, with many similar suggestions to the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 that Trump sought to distance himself from after elements of it proved too extreme for voters.

The chair of the AFPI is former pro wrestling executive Linda McMahon, who has been named Trump’s nominee for secretary of education.

May 2024:

Bondi was one of the Republicans who showed up in support at Trump’s hush money trial in New York, USA TODAY reported.

Who Is Pam Bondi, Trump’s Replacement Pick for Matt Gaetz?

NY State Senator Jessica Ramos Torches AOC For Being Unreachable: ‘It Would be Nice if You Breathed Our Air’

Progressive New York State Senator Jessica Ramos called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Twitter for her lack of presence in her constituency, asserting that the Congresswoman is becoming out of touch.

Ramos is the Chair of the New York Senate Committee on Labor and serves the 13th district of the state, of which portions overlap with Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional district.

The series of tweets took place after a medical student posted that health policy academics were denied a meeting with Ocasio-Cortez’s staff:

The congresswoman replied in an apologetic manner claiming that what was described is “not representative of me nor my values.” She encouraged the sender to connect with her to remedy the issue.

Ramos then began a string of criticisms of Ocasio-Cortez in response to the two tweets above. The state lawmaker called her out for her absence, arguing that it is felt throughout her constituency.

When another person tweeted in response questioning Ramos’s credibility, she dug in further saying that her absence is “an indisputable fact.”

Journalist Errol Louis joined the discussion responding to the thread that the public feud between the lawmakers “suggests private diplomacy has failed,” to which Ramos replied, “That’s correct.”

The state senator claimed that she has not been able to reach Ocasio-Cortez in months, saying that she “gave up texting her a while back,” asking “what else is it I’m supposed to do?”

Ramos continued to reply to many others continuing to criticize Ocasio-Cortez, writing, “I believe what I see and hear on my streets and in my office building :),” and that she just wants her “congressional representative to be around and do their job in the community.”

According to the New York Post, a spokesperson for Ocasio-Cortez claimed that their office did not have any record of the meeting being discussed. The spokesperson additionally said that they will continue to look into the incident.

I have a problem with "Let's connect and DM over Twitter to discuss this" tbh but overall this whole thing isn't a good look at all and I've mentioned before how she's seen her numbers drop in her district and how she's not winning allies or friends really.

The doctor stepped out of the TARDIS, rubbing her hands together “C’mon gang, let’s get a shift on. Lots to see, lots to do.” She said taking the lead and walking ahead. The victorian streets were cobblestone, and covered in mud, “Doc, I thought the victorian era was supposed to be more, I don’t know? Glamorous.” Graham sighed

“Oi! This is real history, you can’t believe everything you see in movies. They’re more historically inaccurate than you’d think,” The doctor snapped jokingly

“Then why’s she wearing jeans?” Ryan asked, gesturing towards you. The entire group turned to look at you. 

“Another time traveller probably. I’m not the only one knocking about time and space. She’s definitely not a time agent because she would be dressed era appropriate, so I assume she’s just passing through,” She rambled. Whilst she talked about the intricacies of the time agency you approached them. 

“You do understand it is rude to talk about someone, and not include them, regardless, of how well you know someone, Doctor, Ryan, Graham, Yaz,” You interrupted

“Who are you? Sorry, time travel, you should know what it’s like, nothings ever in the right order. Especially with people,” A confused expression fixed on her face

“Oh, of course, that makes sense. It’s all coming together,” You said glaring at the vortex manipulator and sticking your hand out to her “My name’s (Y/N). (Y/N) (L/N).”

“That’s a lovely name. A really lovely name,” The doctor said smiling widely, Ryan and Yaz chuckling at her.

“You’ll see me again,” You said kissing her on the cheek “That’ll make more sense eventually, I promise,”

“Do you happen to know an archeologist by any chance?”

“I think I know the one you’re referring to. We happen to be friends I’ll have you know,” You blinked staring off into the distance for a second “Well, if you haven't met me yet, I should get going,” You said tapping the travel device and slamming your hand down against it. You vanished.

“Well that definitely was one of the more confusing interactions we’ve had,” Yaz frowned. Electricity fizzed and you reappeared behind them, “Sorry, sorry,” You said making them jump “Doctor, when you see me next, give me this, it’ll make sense to her, maybe. Anyway, onwards,”  You handed her a heavy ring as you spoke, ”I’ve always wanted to die on a foreign planet.” And before she could respond, you vanished into thin air once again.

“How- How did she do that?” Graham asked “And what did she mean? Die on a foriegn planet,”

“Vortex manipulator, nasty way to time travel, bad for the kidneys,” She frowned “as for the death bit, I don’t know,”

It’d been 3 months since the doctor had met you. She had tried to search for you and found nothing. She’d bored the fam to death rambling about time and the way it worked and who you could be and things she’d done to try to track you down. Nothing seemed to work, at one point they’d tried to stage an intervention which did not help as it merely gave her a platform to theorise. Until one day they arrived on Earth. 

“Right gang, this is an abandoned building, middle of London. 3 hours to get some stuff done before we set off again,” the doctor said as she pushed the door open. The building outside the doors was definitely not abandoned. It looked like an office, floor to ceiling windows and a beautiful view of London outwards, a desk opposite them. 

“Are you sure you’re right? This looks awfully officey for an abandoned building,” Ryan commented with a frown. The room was large, there were a variety of chairs placed around the room, along with a few futuristic looking lights

“No, it’s definitely Earth the gravity feels right,” The doctor answered, she licked her finger and lifted it into the air, “It’s earth, middle of London, Wednesday and it’s 11:02am,” She said a smug smile framing her face, wiping her finger on Yaz despite her protests. A door opened, you stepped out looking younger than the version in the victorian street, dressed in a suit, the opposite to how you were in the street.

“Hello, you’re the doctor, and I presume these are your companions? Assistants? Friends? Whatever you call them now,” You said extending a hand out to the timelord

“Yes, I am and yes they’re friends,” She said taking it “So you’re (Y/N) (L/N) then? What is this place?”

“Yes I am. It’s my office, I’ll explain on the tour, follow me, this way,” You said taking the lead and exiting the room

“We can’t tell her about what we saw, it runs the risk of collapsing reality or potentially ruining a fixed point, which is very, very bad, specifically 4 suitcase fulls and a bus journey full of bad,” The doctor explained in a hushed whisper to the other three

“But what if we could save her? Stop her from believing she’ll die on another planet?” Yaz asked empathetic as always

“Look, we can’t, I’ve tried that before and it ends up worse, we can’t do that. We can’t choose who lives and who dies,” She said glaring at all of them before snapping back to her usual sunny disposition and following you out of the room, the others trailing behind

“We always knew you would visit us at one point, it was inevitable given what we deal with,” You stated

“What is this place? Is this some kind of database an information hub? Why didn’t it show up on TARDIS scanners?” She asked, her list of questions increasing

“Formally, rehabilitation of former time travelers and people who come into contact with aliens. Informally, cleaning up after the Doctor. We’re The Bad Wolf Institute, formerly known as The Trenzalore institute, but Captain Harkness insisted we change it, after an old friend of yours, I believe” 

The doctor froze in her tracks “Sorry? The Bad Wolf institute?”

“Yes, Jack was very insistent, pitched it to Me and she seemed to like the concept. The meeting of human and alien so to speak,” 

“Did you just refer to yourself in the third person and first person?” Yaz mumbled

“No, Lady Me founded the institute and is formally the director of it, however, when she is away with one of your former friends or running trap street, I become acting director,” You explained opening a door and ushering them inside “She did claim she was trying to protect the world from you. She kept her word Doctor.” Inside the room was sectioned off areas of ground and a locked cabinet. “Vortex manipulators,” You answered the moment the doctor opened her mouth to ask “Called in a favour from Jack and Torchwood, he owed us after the 456 issue, but we took care of it. Use them to jump planets and time, smooth over any damage you’ve done, better us than the time agents, you know what they’re like.”

“Isn’t that a violation of time having them in the 21st century considering they were invented in the 51st century?”

“Yes, however, we’re erased from future narratives, we’re ghosts in the future, barely echos of echos,” 

The doctor stopped suddenly, “How can I trust you? Hm? How do I know you aren’t lying? You could be a trap, a trick,” 

“I can pull out a file on any former companion and read it to you.  Amy, Rory, Jack, Martha, Clara, Rose, Harry, Donna, Jamie, pick a name and we’ll find it,” Your tone was neutral, but your face wasn’t harsh. 

“Too general, anyone from U.N.I.T can do that, I need something more specific,”

“I was the rep assigned to Amelia and Rory Williams, the Ponds. Visited her, 1946, New York, made some connections for her. Hooked up with an adoption agency, her and Rory adopted a son. She also repeatedly referred to you as raggedy man, and told me you used to eat fishfingers and custard which is something we didn’t have on file. We didn’t add it, you’re allowed some secrets, old man, no matter how vile it sounds,” A smile gracing for face at the last words

“Sorry? You used to be a man?” Graham asked. You chuckled at that, the formal facade finally slipping.

“Yes? That’s what you take away from that Graham? I believe you, no one other than her calls me that.” The doctor nodded at you, pulling the weighted silver ring from one of her many coat pockets “Oh before I forget, someone told me to give you this. They said it was important.”

You examined the ring for a second, a small chuckle escaped you “This was my mother’s, it went missing not long after she died. Never found it, searched the whole house, nothing,” You explained, slipping it on to your finger. “Thank you, I presume it was me then. My future must be in safe hands.”

“How did you- How did you work that out?” Ryan asked 

“Time travel, it’s weird,”

“Want to come with us?” The doctor said unexpectedly

“Not especially. I have an institute to look after while Me runs Trap street, ask me again one day and I might just say yes,” You sighed a small wink directed towards her at the end of your sentence “Leave the TARDIS here as long as you’d like, no harm will come to it here.”

February 18th - March 14th

We got some snow on the February 17th, which Gae promptly cleaned up on the 18th.

I got up telemark skiing with my old friend Dan on 19th at Loveland, where we found some deep snow on the north side of the tunnel. I’m thankful Dan is ok skiing with someone so much slower than the “tele-animal” he is:-)  Gae continues enjoying church over Zoom each week, and Rob, Stacy and I join her for Toastmasters every other week.

There is a picnic table just across the street from us in a little park area along the Highline Canal, which Gae noticed was losing it’s paint.

Gae decided to spruce up the table with some new paint... ready for a picnic.

Our girl Nala continued to slow down with the developing bone cancer in her leg, which caused us increasing angst over time.

Gae spends as much time as possible, as close as possible, every day.

Gae and I tried cross country skiing on the 25th after a 10 inch dump over night.

We were thankful someone else had already broken trail, but still struggled with snow sticking to our skis when they got wet from the inch of slush beneath the snow.

A lady in the retirement complex showed up looking for her dog on March 2nd, who we’d found once before running our neighborhood.

Gae went out looking for it, falling solidly in some mud during the search... I could only smile when I came home from hitting a bucket of balls when I saw her clothes on the front stoop.

I got up skiing with my friend James on March 5th, enjoying the 40 degree temps, 5 inches of new snow, and frequent breaks that allowed me to ski more of the day.

Kipp and Deb got outside for a workout on the 6th, with Nala volunteering to count reps.

Nala got to the point where she struggled to walk and slept most of the day by the 9th.

We got this nice picture of Rob on his deck in New Orleans from Ben on the 9th too.

We took Nala in on the 10th to have her put to sleep. She wouldn’t eat in the morning... a sure sign she’d reached the point of too much pain. Two days shy of being with us for 8 months, and a horribly sad finish for our wonderful dog.

We took a walk around Bible Park on March 11th, with the lingering eye-bags from our loss.

We took another walk on the 13th to pick up a replacement plug for Gae’s bedside table lamp.

We were surprised at the dozens of Robins along the canal trail.

On the last day of early voting in Graham, North Carolina, a racially diverse group of about 200 people participated in the non-partisan “I Am Change” march to the polls, a peaceful rally encouraging people to vote. Most of them never made it there.

The rally was issued “a permit to use county property at the historic courthouse as a rally location.” At first, the march had a police escort. At one point, however, “the marchers held a moment of silence in the street in honor of George Floyd.” Apparently the local police didn’t take kindly to that.

“After the moment of silence concluded, law enforcement told people to clear the road. Then, deputies and police officers used pepper spray on the crowd and began arresting people. ... The crowd then moved to the courthouse where speeches were being given. But before the speeches concluded, Alamance County sheriff’s deputies began dismantling the sound system and telling the crowd to disperse. George Floyd’s niece was slated to speak at the event, but the speeches were disrupted before she got a chance at the microphone. Deputies and officers again used pepper spray to force people off the courthouse property.”

The police issued an official statement confirming the use of pepper spray but denying that “any member of the Graham Police Department” had ever directly sprayed “any participant in the march with chemical irritants.” The police also defended their use of pepper spray to terminate the rally prematurely, claiming: “the assembly reached a level of conduct that led to the rally being deemed unsafe and unlawful by unified command.”

Among those whom the police “deemed unsafe and unlawful” were young children, an elderly disabled woman, and a Democrat candidate for Congress:

“Melanie Mitchell said her 5-year-old and 11-year-old daughters were pepper-sprayed just after the moment of silence. She said Graham police approached the crowd assembled in the street and told them to move onto the sidewalk and soon began spraying pepper spray toward the ground. Mitchell’s 5-year-old took off running, she said. Both kids threw up.”

“Veronica Holman said her 3-year-old great-nephew also threw up after being pepper-sprayed. They had been sitting on a brick wall across the street from the courthouse, she said. ‘They didn’t warn us or anything,’ she said. ‘We were just sitting on the wall.’”

“Another video posted on social media showed a woman in a motorized wheelchair reacting to pepper spray that was released about 10 feet from her.”

“Scott Huffman, who is challenging Republican Rep. Ted Budd in North Carolina’s 13th District in the U.S. House of Representatives ... said he was affected by the pepper spray that was deployed.”

At least twelve people were arrested and jailed, including the event organizer, Reverend Greg Drumwright of the Citadel Church (who happens to be African-American). The police also arrested the campaign manager for Dreama Caldwell, Democratic candidate for county commissioner, and “many activists associated with the group People for Change.”

Oh, and one more fellow: Alamance News reporter Tomas Murawski, who was covering the march. According to the newspaper’s publisher, Tom Boney Jr.:

“Murawksi was taking photos on the street when he was arrested. ‘When I spoke to him on the street, while he was in police custody, he said they ordered them to move out of the road way,’ Boney said in an interview with the N&O. ‘He was doing so, while still taking photos, but apparently not fast enough for [the police].’

“Murawski was charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer, Boney said, adding that the reporter was being accused of pulling away from an officer. The reporter, however, was adamant he was not resisting the officer, Boney said. A video of the incident shows no sign that the reporter was resisting.”
