Round 1 - Set 27
Left: Conveying the Child's Coffin (A Child's Funeral) 1879 by Albert Edelfelt
Description: Painting: It's a bright, beautiful day on a serene lake. On the foreground, taking up most of the painting, is a rowboat, carrying a family in funeral clothes, as well as a small coffin. There are adults, men, women, and next to the coffin, a lone child, gazing sadly into the water. The sunlight does not reach their faces.
Propaganda: It's a bright, beautiful day. And yet.
Propaganda 2: I think it is interesting how this art parallels in composition the painting "Going to the Christening" from 1880 by the same artist - life and death, two sides of one coin.
Conveying the Child's Coffin (A Child's Funeral) 1879 by Albert Edelfelt. Oil on canvas. The art is 120 × 204 cm. Currently at the Finnish National Gallery (link to the artwork in the online gallery here). The art was photographed by Hannu Pakarinen.
Right: Going to the Christening 1880 by Albert Edelfelt
Propaganda: painting of a bright sunny day on a lake. On the foreground, taking up most of the painting, is a rowboat, carrying a family, 3 adult women, 2 adult men, a baby held by one of the women and a child. The child holds a bouquet of flowers and gazes into the water.
Propaganda: On its own Conveying the Child's Coffin packs more of a punch but I get dizzy thinking about how this paralleling piece of art was made After the funeral one.
Going to the Christening 1808 by Albert Edelfelt. Oil on canvas. The art is 73 x 100 cm. Accessed through Wikipedia Commons (link to the site here).
