this + how everyone talked about dean getting worse and worse with the mark and how he was such a liability and yada yada without any evidence. like i'm not trying to stick up for lucifer here but chuck argues 1) lucifer was too weak to fight the mark and 2) it just fed off his inherent evil anyway. point 1 is made about dean several times and point 2 is a fear dean has about himself. chuck is saying this in front of dean (confirming his secret fears) and sam (making sam feel like he was right the whole time). that's some complex manipulation.
