you sign a rookie and put him in a shitbox because you're saving the development budget for next year. the car next year still sucks but he's steadily improving, has great battles on field while of course also doing mistakes. you start undermining him in the media and give him a public ultimatum for a contract extension. you drop him the day before the final race weekend starts, where seats in all other motorsport competitions are filled up and he has no chance of racing full time the next year. he does donuts after his final race in your team colors when his close friend-mentor is retiring. you tell him off for it.

Two-time grand prix winner Tambay dies aged 73 | 2022 F1 season

Two-time grand prix winner Patrick Tambay, who replaced Gilles Villeneuve at Ferrari in 1982, has died, his family announced on Sunday. The French former Formula 1 and sportscar racer Tambay had lived with Parkinson’s disease in the later years of his life but died over the weekend aged 73. Tambay raced in Formula 1 between 1977 and 1986 in a career that spanned 114 grand prix starts from 123 races entered. After making his early grand prix starts with Surtees and Theodore in 1977, Tambay was signed by McLaren for the 1978 and 1979 seasons before missing out the 1980 season. Tambay returned to Formula 1 with Theodore for 1981 but disappeared from the grid again in 1982. However, following the sudden death of Ferrari driver Gilles Villeneuve in practice for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix, Ferrari called in Tambay to step into Villeneuve’s vacant seat. Four races later, he secured victory in the German Grand Prix and two more podiums, earning a drive alongside fellow Frenchman Rene Arnoux for 1983. Tambay took an emotional second career win at the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, but was ultimately replaced by Michele Alboreto at Ferrari for 1984. Tambay moved to Renault for the next two seasons, taking three podium finishes and one pole position. His final season in F1 came with Haas (founded by Carl Haas) in 1986. After his racing career, Tambay picked up a microphone to commentate on Formula 1 for French television. MAMS: Sikeresen zárult a magyar bajnokság IV. fordulója a horvátországi Grobnikban

Augusztus 9-11. között rendezték a Magyar Bajnokság IV. fordulóját a horvátországi Grobnik pályán. Az esemény izgalmas versenyeket és emlékezetes pillanatokat hozott a motorsport szerelmeseinek. A Magyar Motorsport Szövetség (MAMS) Gyorsasági Szakága 2024-ben pénzdíjas bajnokságot szervezett, amelynek legutóbbi állomása a Grobnik versenypálya volt. A hétvége során a pilóták fantasztikus teljesítményt nyújtottak az egyedi karakterisztikájú versenypályán. Az időjárás kedvező volt, ami lehetővé tette, hogy minden futamot száraz pályán rendezzenek meg. A versenyzők között szoros küzdelmek alakultak ki, ami hatással volt a magyar bajnokság pontversenyére. Egyes kategóriákban az utolsó forduló előtt szorosabb a pontverseny, így az V. fordulóban minden egyes megszerzett pont kulcsfontosságú lehet a bajnoki cím szempontjából. A hétvége legsikeresebb Magyar Kupa résztvevője 600-as kategóriában Kun Csaba lett. Jelenleg a 600-as kupa pontállást vezeti, Grobnikban mindkét Magyar Kupa Futamot megnyerte. Ez az első éve 600-as motoron, korábban a 300-as sorozatban versenyzett. „Nagyon jól éreztem magam az egész hétvégén, minden rendben ment. Sikerült a motor beállításokat már a csütörtöki szabad edzéseken eltalálni, pénteken még finomíttattunk az áttételen, hiszen erre a pályára nagyon nehéz eltalálni, mivel szinte minden második kanyar eszméletlenül tempós.” – árulta el Csaba. „Szombaton már magabiztosan keltünk fel, de már az adrenalin az egekbe volt hiszen korán reggel időmérő volt. Összeállt teljesen a kép, a pálya, a motor, minden rendben ment és a szokásos SC-X gumi keverékkel mentem egész hétvégén, ami mindig beválik.” - mondta el a hétvége egyik legeredményesebb magyar résztvevője. „A versenyen csak a saját tempómat motoroztam, nem kockáztattam semmit, nem mentem bele hülyeségbe, ez volt a cél és meg is lett az eredménye! BMW Motorrad presents the new S 1000 XR

BMW Motorrad is introducing the new S 1000 XR, an enhanced version of the successful long-distance sports bike and multiple test winner. Increased engine power, improved ergonomics, design refinements, and expanded standard features define the model's upgrades.

The reworked in-line 4-cylinder engine now delivers even more impressive performance, with a flow-optimised geometry for the intake channels and a power output of 125 kW (170 hp). The new S 1000 XR still shares its in-line 4-cylinder engine with the S 1000 RR, providing a smooth and powerful torque delivery and a harmonious power characteristic that contributes to excellent rideability. Compared to the predecessor model, the engine power has been increased by 4 kW (5 hp) to now 125 kW (170 hp) at an unchanged nominal engine speed of 11,000 rpm. The main reasons for the performance increase are a flow-optimised geometry of the intake channels and a customised mapping. The maximum torque generated is still 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm.

Improved ergonomics thanks to new seat and even sportier rear section. In order to provide even more freedom of movement, especially during high-performance riding on country roads and race tracks, the seat of the long-distance sports bike has been completely redesigned. It now offers an extra 10 mm of seat height (850 mm) and provides more space for the buttocks by increasing the usable length and width of the seat, allowing for better adjustment of the seating position depending on the riding conditions. The improved ergonomics make it easier for riders to manoeuvre the S 1000 XR on the road or on the race track, providing even better control. A total of three different seat heights are available. The new S 1000 XR also benefits from redesigned elements in its design. The rear section now features new side panels and air intakes inspired by motorsports, giving it a more dynamic look. Additionally, the radiator trim now has a textured surface, and the previously black-coloured “beak” fender is now painted in body colour.

Extended range of standard equipment and new optional extras / Original BMW Motorrad Accessories. The new S 1000 XR comes with an expanded standard equipment list. As part of the standard equipment, Headlight Pro provides additional safety during night-time rides with its adaptive turning light. The rider benefits from improved road illumination in corners.  The package also includes Daytime Running Lights (DRL) for better vehicle recognition during the day. Keyless Ride and a 12 Ah capacity battery are now standard features. Additionally, the new BMW S 1000 XR is equipped with a USB charging option as standard. Other updates include the availability of the E-Call feature in the USA, the option to equip the S 1000 XR with the optional M GPS Laptrigger, and the availability of M Carbon wheels as a new optional extra or as Original BMW Motorcycle accessories.

Three new attractive colour options. Three new colour options reflect the dynamic character of the new BMW S 1000 XR. • Blackstorm metallic • Gravityblue metallic • Lightwhite solid paint/Motorsport (in conjunction with the M package and M seat).

The key innovations of the new BMW S 1000 XR: • Engine power has been increased by 4 kW (5 hp) to now 125 kW (170 hp) at 11,000 rpm (previously 121 kW (165 hp)). • The intake channels have been modified. • The optimised Shift Assistant Pro ensures even higher precision when shifting. • Improved ergonomics and freedom of movement with a redesigned seat (850 mm seat height instead of the previous 840 mm). • The spring strut has been optimised to provide a more sensitive and comfortable ride. • The rear section has a new, sportier design with new side panels and air intakes inspired by motorsports. • The handlebar clamp has been redesigned. • The front “beak” is now painted in the body colour. • The radiator cover has a new, textured surface. • New battery with 12 Ah capacity instead of the previous 9 Ah. • M Carbon wheels available as optional equipment or Original BMW Motorrad Accessories. • Keyless Ride is standard. • USB charging port is standard. • Headlight Pro is standard. • E-Call now also available for the USA. • Use of the M GPS Laptrigger is possible. • New colour options: Blackstorm metallic, Gravityblue metallic and Lightwhite solid paint/Motorsport.

Corvette C8.Rs Adorned in Special Mobil 1 Livery for 12 Hours of Sebring

Corvette Racing has unveiled a pair of one-off liveries for its two C8.R models that will be participating in this weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring. The No. 3 car will be driven by the latest Rolex 24 winners Jordan Taylor, Antonio Garcia, and Nicky Catsburg. The No. 4 car will feature Tommy Milner, Nick Tandy, and Alexander Sims who replaces recently-retired Marcel Fassler. The exclusive gray, white, and red livery deviates from the team’s traditional bright yellow colorway for this weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship classic. It is for Sebring only and meant to be a representation of Chevrolet and Mobil 1 celebrating 25 years of their technical partnership. 

Factory Corvettes have only raced a handful of times without their signature yellow coat. The first time was the 1999 debut season where two Corvette C5-Rs ran in silver and black Goodwrench liveries. The most recent instance was at the 2018 FIA WEC 6 Hours of Shanghai when a Corvette C7.R sported special silver Redline livery. The silver, red, and black-themed ensemble was intended to promote the launch of the automaker’s then-new line of Redline Edition vehicles in China and, just like this new Sebring livery, was only applied to the car for that one race. 

The livery is a fitting tribute to the fuel partner for an event that Corvette Racing and Mobil 1 have won 11 times together since 2002. Plans for the Corvette Racing program started back in 1996 with its engine and track testing beginning the following year. Every single lap and dyno session since then has been with Mobil 1 oil and lubricant. Engineers from the ExxonMobil brand would analyze samples taken from each Corvette Racing entry following an event and use that data to improve the racing products and those available to the consumer public. 

“Mobil 1 has been a key technology partner since the beginning of the Corvette Racing program,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President, Performance and Motorsports. “Together, we have competed, learned and won in the most challenging and extreme track conditions around the world to deliver performance, durability and efficiency. We are proud to run Mobil 1 in Corvettes on the track and on the road.”

Together, this remarkable partnership between Corvette and Mobil 1 has seen 114 wins around the world, including a 1-2 GT Le Mans (GTLM) finish in the Rolex 24 At Daytona which opened the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

Alexander Smolyar had taken pole, Maloney alongside him on the front row and Stanek and Martins on the second. Leclerc started fifth, while a crash during qualifying had put Hadjar well back in 16th. Maloney snatched the lead on the first lap, relegating Smolyar to second with Martins behind him. Meanwhile Bearman and Leclerc went two-wide, nearly colliding. Eventually Leclerc relented, tucking in behind Bearman after the Roggia chicane. David Vidales, enduring a miserable final weekend of the year, made lap one contact with Rafael Villagomez, both of their races ending in the gravel on the entry to the first Lesmo, prompting a Safety Car to be immediately called. The race restarted on lap four, Maloney taking a very early restart and almost managing to break the tow to Smolyar. However, Smolyar out-braked Maloney into turn one, barely holding onto it through the first chicane and allowing Martins through past first Maloney and then into the lead. On lap seven, Martins was shown a black-and-white flag as a final warning for weaving on the straight. Maloney managed to take the lead via a DRS pass just befor a turn one cluster that narrowly avoided seeing any cars retire on lap nine. Stanek and Leclerc ended up having to weave around the runoff after squeezing Smolyar, who began dropping down the order with what he reported as broken suspension. Bearman moved up to third and Martins made the wise choice to avoid taking damage, losing the race lead but keeping the championship advantage. Martins did not resist a move from Bearman too hard, on lap 12. Although holding on to third meant he was safe from Bearman, he had to finish fourth in order to win the title if Bearman moved into the win. Bearman attempted a pass for the lead on lap 16 but Maloney defended, with Bearman being forced to take the shortcut through the chicane and stay behind. Shortly after, a Safety Car was called after Kush Maini and Brad Benavides crashed out of the second Lesmo, both cars ending up on the grass and in the wall on the inside. There was a red flag called with five laps to go, in order to clear Maini and Benavides’ cars. During the red flag, Martins was issued a five-second time penalty for four track limits violations, putting his championship seemingly under threat for the final four laps. However, shortly afterwards, the race director announced that the race would not be resumed. Confusion reigned in the pit lane as neither Martins, his team or the other drivers were aware how the championship would be decided. Eventually, Johnny Edgar and William Alatalo also received five-second time penalties for track limit violations. Alatalo had been initially promoted to third by Martins’ penalty, his own penalty subsequently putting Jak Crawford on the podium and Martins back to fourth. Maloney won the race, Bearman second, Crawford third and Martins fourth. Consequently, Martins takes the title with a lead of five points over Maloney, seven from Bearman. Maloney takes second in the 2022 championship, Bearman third, Hadjar settling for fourth after collecting two points for ninth place. MAMS: Remek hangulat, kiváló egyéni teljesítmények a Magyar kupában

Június 14-16. között rendezték az MBH Befektetési Bank Gyorsasági Országos Bajnokság és Magyar Kupa II. fordulóját. A Magyar Motorsport Szövetség (MAMS) Gyorsasági Szakága 2024-ben pénzdíjas bajnokságot szervezett, amelynek legutóbbi állomása a Pannónia-Ring volt. Nagyszámú érdeklődő és szurkoló vett részt az MBH Befektetési Bank Gyorsasági Országos Bajnokság és Magyar Kupa II. fordulóján. Az Ostffyasszonyfán működő Pannónia-Ringen az 50-150 m-ig terjedő bukózónák és a környezeti adottságok miatt ennél is hosszabb kicsúszási lehetőségek garantálják a biztonságos versenyt, továbbá a legmodernebb infrastruktúra áll a versenyzők és a nézők rendelkezésére. A június 14–16. között lezajlódott versenyen, optimális időjárási körülmények között, elképesztő küzdelemben, egyedülálló eredmények is születtek. A hétvége legsikeresebb versenyzője 600-as kategóriában Kecskés Bence volt. „Az Alpok Adria sorozat mindig is a kedvenceim közé tartozott, nagyon örülök, hogy idén a Magyar Bajnokság teljes egészében együtt fut vele. Az olasz szövetség tagjaival régóta együtt dolgozom, hiszen CIV juniorban öt évet versenyeztem, és ismerjük egymást. A Pannónia ringen átépítették az első kanyart és emiatt az utána jövő kanyarok dinamikája is változott, ami előnyére vált a pályának - gyorsabb lett. Az előző hétvégi versenyen megszabták ennek a határait azért egy festett vonallal, amire viszont szükség is volt, így maradt elég lendület benne, de nem lehetett túlzásokba esni, a biztonságot növelték ezzel a "rajzolással". Egyik kedvenc itthoni pályám, és örültem, hogy volt időm ott versenyezni a hétvégén” – árulta el a magyar gyorsasági motorsport egyik legnagyobb reménysége. „A motorom hét elején még technikai hibával küzdött, a gyorsváltóval szenvedtünk a szakági edzésnap előtt, így az eső miatt is a hétfői napot elengedve a szerelőkig vittük, akik megoldották a dolgot hétvégére. Egy beállítási hiba okozta a problémát. A versenyhétvége alatt a boxban Lengyel Ákos volt a szakmai irányító, köszönöm neki és édesapámnak, akire büszke vagyok, mert ha lassan is, de mindig precízen összerakja a motort. És anyukámnak is köszönöm, akivel hozzátettünk még egy jótékonysági eseményt a hétvégéhez, a Szív Bajnokai Alapítvánnyal karöltve plüssállatokat gyűjtöttünk egy kórháznak és a gyerekek is kilátogattak hozzánk. Soha nem voltak még motorversenyen, nagyon élvezték az ott töltött időt és felszabadultan örültek a számukra nem átlagos látnivalónak” – mondta el az erős nemzetközi bajnokságban, a FIM JuniorGP-ben versenyző pilóta. „Az OB-n szeretnék még indulni, ha a versenybeosztások engedik akkor szeretnék ott lenni még egy fordulón legalább. Nem tudom min változtatnék, Németh Andris mindig szuperül, szívből szervezi ezeket az eseményeket, és örülök, hogy az MBH bank ezzel a kis hozzájárulással is támogatja az eredményes motorversenyzést, sokat számít, hogy a költségekhez ennyivel hozzájárulnak. Köszönöm a szakág és minden motorsportért dolgozó ember munkáját és hozzáértését” – fejezte be a forduló értékelését Bence, aki nemzetközi szinten csupán egyetlen lépésre van a MotoGP és World Superbike sorozatoktól.
