Our 11 plus curriculum is structured so that it is completely adaptable, allowing us to create a programme that meets your child’s individual needs. It’s all about identifying your child’s current level of mastery and stretching and challenging from that point. Verbal reasoning a core subject within both the CEM and GL based 11 plus tests. Verbal reasoning is the ability to comprehend and reason using concepts expressed through words. Verbal Reasoning requires very good English skills, a good understanding of grammar and a wide vocabulary.

Most GL 11+ exams are either Standard Format (where answers are written in spaces next to the question) or Multiple Choice (where answers are marked in a separate answer book). The length of test papers varies, although 45 minutes is the most common exam time.

CEM papers are mixed, with one exam combining English and verbal reasoning and another combining Maths and non-verbal reasoning. Standard Format, Multiple Choice, or a combination may be used depending on school/region. In addition, the paper may quickly flit between a short Maths section, a longer problem solving exercise, then some logic puzzles. Timings will be allocated to each section, and children will need to carefully manage the time they spend on each section. In CEM exams, there will typically be more questions than are likely to be answered in the time allocated, and the weighting of each subject for your child’s final mark will be unknown before the exam.

CEM Set 4 - Papers A and B  | CEM - 11 Plus | CEM Mock Practice Exams -  Papers written and prepared in house by professionals, tutors and experts in the field of 11 plus (unlike many other exams you may come across which have been outsourced to people who do not possess the knowledge required for 11 plus). Our papers are tailored to specific examining boards (CEM and CSSE etc) as apposed to being generic papers containing every question type, and reflect the real exams as closely as possible. Immediately after the exam, we spend time with the candidates going through the most challenging topics from the exam. £175.00 - This is a 4-day course where we cover all 11 plus topics and cover work for year 4 and year 5. This course is just as suitable for students doing general Maths and English tuition. During these sessions we go through papers, do quizzes and other interactive activities to make the learning experience enjoyable. Sessions run Monday to Thursday, 10am to 1pm. Spaces are limited so please book in advance.

The 11+ exam is about testing your child’s aptitude and the importance of a well-rounded education cannot be stressed enough. We at RTG have the experience to prepare your child for the 11 plus exams. We encourage wider reading and building vocabulary as part of our English 11 plus tutoring.

Book 5 provides further practice material for the topics covered in book 2. All questions come with a mark scheme and a self-assessment.

This book provides further practise of the topics taught in Verbal Reasoning Book 1 including 50 questions per each topic with an example to help. Each topic finishes with self-assessment from the child reflecting on their confidence with each topic that is then recorded in the final pages of the book in the form of a tally chart for parents to check at a glance. (This book is an extension of VR book 1 which teaches how to tackle the topics within the books and we highly recommend the completion of Book 1 before beginning the further practise in book 4.)

If you are thinking of applying to a Grammar School or an independent school for your child, you will have to start preparing your child for the highly competitive 11 plus exams. The 11+ exams are the first major hurdle that children face in their academic careers.  It is an exam for selective entry into secondary schools that students sit in Year 6, for entrance into Year 7. It is not a compulsory test but it continues to be used by Grammar Schools and some Independent Schools.
