File:Jacob Jacobsz de Wet II  - James I, King of Scotland (1394-1437) - 1684-6
James I (late July 1394 – 21 February 1437) was King of Scotland from 1406 to 1437. The youngest of three sons, he was born in Dunfermline Abbey to King Robert III and his wife Annabella Drummond. His older brother David, Duke of Rothesay, died under suspicious circumstances while being detained by their uncle, Robert, Duke of Albany. His other brother, Robert, died young. Fears for James's safety grew through the winter of 1405/6 and plans were made to send him to France. In February 1406, James was forced to take refuge in the castle of the Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth after his escort was attacked by supporters of Archibald, 4th Earl of Douglas. He remained there until mid-March when he boarded a vessel bound for France. On 22 March English pirates captured the ship and delivered the prince to Henry IV of England. The ailing Robert III died on 4 April and the 11-year-old James, now the uncrowned King of Scotland, would not regain his freedom for another eighteen years.
James was educated well at the English Court where he developed respect for English methods of governance and for Henry V. The Scottish king, apparently willingly, joined Henry in his military campaign in France during 1420 – 1421. His cousin, Murdoch Stewart, Albany's son, who had been an English prisoner since 1402, was traded for Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland, in 1416. James had married Joan Beaufort, daughter of the Earl of Somerset, in February 1424 just before his release in April. The King's re-entry into Scottish affairs was not altogether popular since he had fought on behalf of Henry V in France and at times against Scottish forces. Noble families were now faced with paying increased taxes to cover the ransom repayments but would also have to provide family hostages as security. James, who excelled in sporting activities and appreciated literature and music, also held a strong desire to impose law and order on his subjects although he applied it selectively at times.
To secure his position, James launched pre-emptive attacks on some of his nobles beginning in 1425 with his close kinsmen, the Albany Stewarts, resulting in the execution of Duke Murdoch and his sons. In 1428 James detained Alexander, Lord of the Isles, while attending a parliament in Inverness. Archibald, 5th Earl of Douglas, was arrested in 1431, followed by George, Earl of March, in 1434. The plight of the ransom hostages held in England was ignored and the repayment money was diverted into the construction of Linlithgow Palace and other grandiose schemes. In August 1436, James failed in his siege of the English-held Roxburgh Castle and then faced an ineffective attempt by Sir Robert Graham to arrest him at a general council. James was assassinated at Perth on the night of 20/21 February 1437 in a failed coup by his uncle Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl. Queen Joan, although wounded, managed to evade the attackers and reached her son, now King James II, in Edinburgh Castle.
Jacob Jacobsz de Wet II (1641, Haarlem – 1697, Amsterdam), also known as James de Witt, was a Dutch Golden Age painter known for a series of 110 portraits of Scottish monarchs, many of them mythical, produced for the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh during the reign of Charles II.

#DegrassiOnThisDay
Lately I’ve been wanting to do a Degrassi re-watch, but I always struggle with where to start. Do I start with a recent season like S13, or should I go all the way back to Degrassi Junior High or TNG Season 1? Then today I was thinking about making a #DegrassiOnThisDay Twitter thread to share what episodes premiered on this date and how long ago. This got me thinking that I could also watch the episodes that premiered on this day. It would be a fun way to re-watch random episodes throughout the year from all different eras of Degrassi. I made a calendar of what episodes premiered when, and I thought I’d share it in case anyone else wants to participate.
How to read this:
Each date indicates which episodes premiered on that day and also the year (e.g. KODS Episode 108 premiered on January 2, 1983 and TNG Episode 609 and 610 premiered on January 2, 2007).
I used short form for each ‘era’ of Degrassi
KODS = The Kids of Degrassi Street
DJH – Degrassi Junior High
DH = Degrassi High
TNG = Degrassi: The Next Generation
DNC = Degrassi Next Class
For each episode, I indicated the very first date it aired. Most of the time this is also the Canadian airdate, but some episodes did premiere in the US first and in those cases I called this out. However Australia airing DNC S2 first is not included
For DNC, I indicated both the Netflix release date and the Family Channel TV premiere, so the episodes are spread out more
I also included the airdates of some of the Degrassi documentaries/specials from over the years

1826 Monday 6 March
6 3/4 11 3/4
Went into the stable - wrote a note to Mr. Oates the architect to ask him to value the annual rent of Northgate house and the premises including 6 days work of land - added a little (under the seal) to my letter to Mss Mc.L- [Maclean] bad her come -
'my aunt is much taken with your description of Mc.D- [Macdonald] Is she not, unless her health be very good, ten years too old - Do tell me honestly your own opinion - You know I am a novice in these matters. Give me any hint you can, as to the most comfortable way of fitting up a complete travelling carriage - I ask everybody, that my aunt may have all the comfort that everybody can think of' -
Sent off about 8 my letter (written yesterday) to 'Miss Maclean of Coll, 15 Hill Street Edinburgh and my note to Mr. Oates - Dressed - went out with William Keighley junior at 8 50/60 - pruning and cutting off dead branches in the hall-wood, etc. came in to breakfast at 10 - wound up the clocks - went out again at 10 50/60 -
William K- [Keighley] and I went to look at that glen between Pump and the late Jonathon Walsh's - 1/2 of it belongs to us - then went to Southholm - over looked all the woods and fences - and the whole course of the brook - gave Hemingway orders to lead stones for waring - told him he must pay up his whole rent - could make him no allowance any longer - if he could not do on the farm, would make it into 3 farms - then overlooked yewtrees wood and the fences - In returning cut out 15 firs and larches for railing out of Cowgate wood near Belvidere - sent William K- [Keighley] to the house (at 2 1/2) to get some beer - staid out with James Sykes and 1 or other near an hour, in spite of the rain, then William K- [Keighley] and I went into the Cunnery plantation - cut down 34 (all larches but 3 or 4) trees, to make room for chiefly beeches and three or four oaks and for railing, and came in at 5 3/4 -
Dressed - Dinner at 6 1/4 - paid Jackman and James S- [Sykes] tea and coffee at 8 - then near an hour settling accounts - Mosey and his man (the new railers from just above Sowden's at Sutcliffe wood bottom) came this morning for the 1st time railed off (single railing) the bottom of Lower brea Ing wood at 7d. [pence] a rood (we finding the nails) and then made out the day fastening young Charles Howorth's railing and chopping lower the stumps of trees that interfered with our walk which James S- [Sykes] and John Booth were continuing across the plantation or nursery as it used to be called below Northwood head field - Jackman and his sons working at Well Royde - William Green led him 2 stone posts etc. from Shepherd's, and led away brash from out of the Calf Croft -
White frost this morning - fine till about 1 then began to rain - some heavyish showers with highish wind during the rest of the day - I was out but did not get much wet - Barometer 2 3/4 degrees below changeable Fahrenheit 42° at 9 40/60 at which hour came up to bed - read from page 171 to 180 last no. [number] (65) Quarterly review - Good article on the last moments of Napoleon by Dr. Autommarchi - Napoleon's case entirely mistaken by him and O'Meara - not chronic hepatitis, chronic inflammation of the liver (not disease of the liver of any kind) but 'a most extensive cancerous ulcer of the stomach' of which disease Napoleon's father died - additional and unnecessary sufferings were occasioned by the mercury of O'Meara, and the antimony of Autommarchi - 'his death was totally independent of the climate of St. Helena, or of any cause within the controul of the English government' -
Wrote all the above of today, and had just done it at 11 - E..O. - William K- [Keighley] told me the little bit of Mr. Kershaw's ground at Northgate we must have was 52 yards, since the new street was opened, he had never asked less 20/. a yard for it but William K- [Keighley] thought it might be bought for 12/. a yard - the whole that I should like to have is 1369 yards more making altogether 1421 yards - my father and Marian dined here being kept by the rain - I did not see them, being out all the day -

Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184: Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat #1421
(By Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184) Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat #1421 Brought to you by ANN Highlighting the August 3367 Rhinoplasty The Gaming Authorities decided to give the 35 ton Keradon a new turn on the center stage. But unlike the March event, this time we were allowed to bring one aditional Mech from another model, -provided it massed 35 tons or less. On K9 they would have a regular 35 ton event instead. Well, at least this time those without Keradons could bring something to the mountains, so the number of aint vs aint fights (Where neither side have legal Mechs and the attacker always win) would probably be severly reduced. Of course, if someone insisted on bringing only 40+ ton Mechs to the tops, they would be soundly beaten by all, and could only win if the target had forgotten/ignored the restrictions as well. I considered my prospects to be somewhat worse than they had been in March. Back then my single Keradon had managed to stay on the slopes, but I suspected many of the opponents had improved their Keradons since then. And lets face it, even if I added a Novum, opponents with a higher licence bringing just one Novum (or other Mech) would fare much better than the last time when they had no legal Mechs. But that was a problem for later. To be fresh and alert some sleep were urgently needed: Setting up a two-Mech formation when I woke up should take almost no time. Wrong. As I rose and went over to the hangar, security was on high alert and had gotten into their heads that I might be a robot. I denied it, but was required to pass several time consuming tests. Finally they grudgingly allowed me into the hangar, but getting the two Mechs out of storage, equipping and arming them took more time than anticipated, and while I was working on it, the scramble started.. -And ended. So there was no participation from our side, and to get footage from the fighting several rounds of begging from friends who had been present was required. It turned out that those who showed up and did best in the event had been: Div 1 416+ (22 Commanders): Sherriff Leary Wretham, Odin`s secret chamber (53s) 2: Christine Mainer 3: Gary Muenzel 4: Makema Mathews 5: Bernard Johnson 6: Lewis Reed 7: Jeff Haas 8: Larry Vandervort 9: Were Wolf 10: Jay Fleharty Div 2 -415 (11 Commanders): Stroker Spot, Death Dealers (2m,59s) Div 3 -321 (12 Commanders): Chong Chin, Heroes (3h,7m) Div 4 -208 (15 Commanders): Brian Patenaude, Black Star Renegades (9h,43m) Div 5 -151 (14 Commanders): Brian Wilson, Smurf Platoon (1h,8m) Div 6 -121 (6 Commanders): Scott Eggers, Smurf Platoon (10h,39m) Div 7 -93 (19 Commanders): Worm, Murdermechs (27m,23s) Div 8 -63 (15 Commanders): Chuck Auld, Murdermech Micro (20s) Div 9 -35 (20 Commanders): Wulfrik MacGregor, Murdermech Micro (1m,13s) 1(S)+1(S)+2(G,S)+4(G,2S)+1(G)+1(S)+5(2S)+3(G,1S)+14(G,4S)= Four Golds, thirteen Silvers and fourteen Bronzes was awarded to Commanders who might have had only legal Mechs in their formations. Total Contestants: 134 Total medals claimed: 118 (of 135 possible) Compared to the previous (75 ton max) event, the number of contestants were reduced by thirty-two. This reduction, aided by some serious imbalance between the tops, resulted in seventeen unclaimed Bronzes from a total of four tops. (those were returned for resmelting after the award ceremony) The last half-hour saw five Golds change hands at least once, two of them decided less than a minute before the light flashed. Three other Golds were held for at least two hours. So we had some solid winners, but mostly contested Golds. Question is if the struggle for the rest of the prizes were equally fierce? To find out we take a look at the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event: .............Silvers......Bronzes Div 1 ....0 of 4.........7 of 10 Div 2 ....0 of 4.........4 of 6 Div 3 ....2 of 4.........4 of 7 Div 4 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10 Div 5 ....4 of 4.........9 of 9 Div 6 ....4 of 4.........1 of 1 Div 7 ....1 of 4.........5 of 10 Div 8 ....4 of 4.........8 of 10 Div 9 ....3 of 4.......10 of 10 We had three tops (K4, K5 and K6) without even a single successfull medal attack. At the other end of the scale was Mount Olympus, K2 and K7 where most of the medals found fresh holders. A total of fourteen Silvers(39%) and fifteen Bronzes(21%) changed hands, both a lot lower than the 56% turnover for the Golds. Both the Smurf Platoon (K5 + K6) and Murdermech Micro (K8 +K9) brought home a double Gold from this event. There were no unaligned winners, but we had two repeat winners: Sherriff Leary Wretham form Odin`s secret chamber on Mount Olympus as well as Brian Patenaude from Black Star Renegades on K4. Upcoming event: Wargs This time the Mech/tonnage event we get is Warg/55 tons. No Mechs massing above 55 tons will be allowed to fight on any of the tops. And on the eight highest tops the Warg packs is supposed to dominate, no more than one non-Warg will be legal there. Event ends January 24 between 0130 and 0200 New York Time

COMMUNITY CALENDAR: Week of March 31
EVENTS
Business owners need to keep an eye on the date as the deadline to file property tax renditions approaches on Monday.
Property tax renditions need to be filed with the business owner’s county appraisal district. A rendition is a listing of the taxable inventory, furniture and fixtures, machinery and equipment, vehicles and other property a business owned or managed as of Jan. 1. This listing is used by the appraisal district to value the business property.
If more than one appraisal district appraises a property, the property owner should file the rendition in each appraisal district office. An extension may be granted by the chief appraiser on written request. Businesses who fail to render property can be penalized 10 percent of the total amount of taxes due.

The 2019 Favorites And Breakout Picks For The American League
Welcome to our two-part guide to the 2019 MLB season through the lens of our MLB prediction model. In each division, we’ll outline the key teams in the division race, discuss the incoming players who will make the biggest difference and classify the tanking teams you should ignore on principle. Here is our preview of the American League (click here for the National League):
How Elo is forecasting the AL East race
Avg. Simulated Season Chance to… Team Elo Rating Wins Losses Run Diff. Make Playoffs Win Division Win World Series Yankees 1569 97 65 +147 82% 47% 13% Red Sox 1562 95 67 +131 76 39 9 Rays 1525 86 76 +46 42 12 3 Blue Jays 1482 75 87 -55 9 2 <1 Orioles 1421 60 102 -198 <1 <1 <1
Based on 100,000 simulations of the 2019 MLB season
Sources: Baseball prospectus, Fangraphs, Clay Davenport
The division race: The New York Yankees didn’t sign Manny Machado or Bryce Harper. But they didn’t need to: They have Aaron Hicks (4.8 wins above replacement1 last season) and young, burgeoning stars Gleyber Torres (2.4) and Miguel Andujar (2.5). While they will be without staff ace Luis Severino (5.1) for some time, our forecast likes them just a bit more than the defending World Series champion Red Sox. The Yankees’ position players set the single-season record for home runs last year and could threaten their own mark this year. And in a game increasingly decided by bullpens, the Yankees might have the best ever. The Boston Red Sox have the reigning AL MVP in Mookie Betts (10.6) and another MVP-caliber bat in J.D. Martinez (6.1), leading a lineup that could pass for an All-Star team. If David Price (3.4) picks up where he left off in the World Series (1.98 ERA in 13 innings) and returns to levels he pitched earlier in his career, he could give the Red Sox another dominant ace alongside annual Cy Young contender Chris Sale (6.5). Fellow starter Nathan Eovaldi (who had 1.9 WAR and his best season in the underlying skills) gives the Red Sox another high-ceiling arm. The Red Sox have had success getting more out of pitchers like Eovaldi, Joe Kelly and Matt Barnes, which gives reason to believe they can overcome the losses of Kelly and Craig Kimbrel to free agency. Not only do the Tampa Bay Rays have the top farm system in the American League, according to Baseball America, but they won 90 games a year ago with the second-youngest position player group (27.1 years) in the league and the youngest pitching staff (27.1). The Rays have quietly put together one of the more talented rosters in the game that includes reigning AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell (6.2) and underrated star Tommy Pham (3.7). The Rays are a postseason sleeper team.
The difference-makers: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. There’s nothing left for Vlad’s son to prove in the minor leagues. He hit .402 in Double-A last season and .381 across all levels. Most rate him as the game’s top prospect with elite bat-to-ball and power ability. The only thing that could slow him down is injury — and maybe the Blue Jays’ front office. He and fellow top 20 prospect Bo Bichette should be franchise cornerstones for an up-and-coming Blue Jays team. Once a highly touted prospect in Pittsburgh, Tyler Glasnow (0.8 WAR in 2018) came over to Tampa in the second half of last season in the Chris Archer deal. He’s always had command trouble but trimmed his walk rate in August while retaining his high strikeout rates. He has breakout potential if the Rays can help him optimize and harness his stuff. The Rays actually paid (gasp) for a talented free agent in Charlie Morton (3.2), who has an elite spin breaking ball and a high-velocity fastball. Morton, when healthy, has quietly emerged as a top-of-rotation talent. Top Rays pitching prospect Brent Honeywell, and his diverse pitch mix that includes a screwball, could be ready to help early in the season. New York landed the top arm available this winter in trading for James Paxton (3.3). Since his breakout 2017 season, Paxton ranks ranks sixth in the majors in strikeouts per nine innings (11.1)2 and 13th in wins above replacement per 200 innings (5.0). The Yankees also added elite reliever Adam Ottavino (2.3) — who actually began his dominant 2018 campaign in a Manhattan storefront — to an absolutely dominant bullpen that averaged 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings last season, a record.
Gone tanking: The Baltimore Orioles The Orioles could be historically poor, but take solace in this, Orioles fans: Your club would still probably win the International League.

The division race: Because of an elite starting rotation, because Francisco Lindor (7.7 WAR) and Jose Ramirez (7.9) — if they can stay healthy — have become superstars by tapping into their pull-side power, because they reside in one of the weakest divisions ever … the Cleveland Indians are still heavy favorites in the AL Central despite one of the more disappointing offseasons in baseball. Only the Orioles and Reds spent less than the Indians’ $2.5 million in free agency. While the Indians can perhaps do nothing and still win the AL Central, they’ve been outclassed in the ALDS in each of the last two years — and the gap between the Indians and the Houston/New York/Boston super teams is perhaps growing. While the Indians are still slated to finish with the fifth-best record in baseball and 11 games ahead of the Twins in our projections, there are questions about their lineup after trading catcher Yan Gomes (2.5) and losing left fielder Michaely Brantley (3.5) to Houston in free agency. The Minnesota Twins are trying to close the gap with the Indians. Byron Buxton’s (-0.4) spring has offered hope that he could begin to tap into his offensive potential, and Eddie Rosario (3.5) is quietly emerging as a star. But third-year general manager Derek Falvey prides himself on developing pitchers, and that’s where the Twins are attempting to make up the most ground. The Twins’ starting pitchers ranked ninth last season in AL ERA (4.48) and fielding-independent pitching (4.54). (The top four AL teams in ERA and FIP all reached the postseason.)
The difference-makers: The Twins signed Michael Pineda in December 2017 to a two-year deal despite knowing that he would miss all of 2018 as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. They hoped the wait would be worth it to enjoy his bat-missing ability: He ranked seventh in swinging strike percentage in 2015-17. Martin Perez and his velocity spike and new cutter also looks like a find for the Twins, and the club signed free-agent Marwin Gonzalez (2.0) to a favorable deal. White Sox uber prospect Eloy Jimenez was the best bat in the minors last year not named Guerrero. He slashed .355/.399/.597 in Triple-A 55 games as a 21-year-old. The 6-foot-4, right-handed hitting outfielder will likely begin the season in the majors after agreeing to a seven-year contract last week, ensuring that the White Sox don’t suppress his service time. Jimenez was acquired from the north side in the Jose Quintana deal; the Chicago Cubs could regret the deal for years.
Gone tanking: The Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox. While the White Sox’s collection of young talent might pay off down the road, they are unlikely to contend this season. The Royals have an even longer road ahead with no top 100 prospects, according to some analysts. The Tigers are also far from being relevant, but they hope they drafted a new ace and face of the franchise in Casey Mize, the No. 1 overall pick last June.

The Houston Astros remain the model franchise in MLB entering 2019. They are on the cutting edge of player development and have built a club that won the 2017 World Series, won 103 games a year ago and project to win 98 games this season, according to our model, all while maintaining a farm system that has ranked fifth or better by Baseball America in three of the past four years. The Astros might be the best team in the game, and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon: They’ve locked up Alex Bregman (7.2 WAR) to a long-term deal, they feature a young core of Carlos Correa (1.7) and Jose Altuve (5.0) in their primes, and they have more riches on the way in outfield prospect Kyle “Ted” Tucker. They’ve become masters of acquiring pitchers, often high-spin-rate arms, and getting more out of them than other teams, including Justin Verlander (6.5), Gerrit Cole (5.5) and Ryan Pressly (2.0). The Los Angeles Angels and Mike Trout (10.0) essentially agreed to a lifetime contract earlier in March. While Trout has never won a playoff game, the second act of the Trout era in Anaheim is looking more promising. The Angels’ farm system is improving, and Shohei Ohtani (3.9) gives the club a second legit superstar if and when he can pitch and hit again. There’s work to do, but the Angels might have the most enviable pair of players in the game. You may not have heard of Oakland A’s third baseman Matt Chapman (7.3), but the two-way star was sixth in WAR for all batters last season. The A’s had the fourth-most efficient offense in part because no team hit fewer ground balls. Getting the ball off the ground is the A’s latest hidden edge. The big question for the A’s is what kind of production they’ll get from a rotation that lacks dominant, ace-type arms. In their bullpen, they have one of the most impressive arms in baseball in Blake Treinen (3.9).
The difference-makers: Astros pitching prospect Josh James wasn’t even on prospect radars last spring, but by the end of the season, he had taken his 100-mph fastball and wipeout changeup to the majors. James is one reason that the Astros were probably comfortable in allowing starters Dallas Kuechel and Charlie Morton to depart. James will begin the year in the bullpen, but he could become an important part of the rotation. The Mariners might hasten their rebuild with the offseason signing of Yusei Kikuchi, one of the best pitchers in Japan over the past several seasons. Kikuchi has a swing-and-miss slider, and his fastball sits at 93 mph but can reach 98. The A’s acquired Jurickson Profar (2.5 WAR) from Texas, one of a number of lower-profile but potentially useful additions. Profar was once the top prospect in the game, but he has dealt with a number of injuries. Still, he’s been effective when on the field, posting a .793 on-base plus slugging last season.
Gone tanking: The Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers. Seattle GM Jerry Dipoto restocked a weak farm system with the trades of Paxton, Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz this offseason, but the Mariners have a long way to go to compete with the Astros. While the Rangers are exploring some innovative practices with Driveline Baseball, they have a team that will be challenged at the major league level and a system that lacks a prospect that projects to be a future difference-maker. It’s a long road from the bottom of the AL West to the top.
