WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?

To me Jesus is love personified.  When I think about what he’s done for me; dying for me, my sins, just the fact that when he was on earth he showed us what it means to be compassionate & to really be loving to others & just seeing what he’s done in my own life, I know that I am loved.  After years of really not understanding what that meant, just knowing that there’s someone who loves me unconditionally, it really means a lot to know that I serve a God who is love.

HOW DID YOU BECOME CONVICTED JESUS IS THE REAL DEAL, THAT IS WHO HE SAID HE WAS?

Ok so I have two parts. So the first one is, I remember back in 2000 when my father kind of walked out of my family’s life & we were in such a bad situation at that time.  We all knew the Lord, we all new Jesus, I knew him from a child growing up.  I can honestly tell you that looking back, I don’t know how we made it through.  When I really think about it, I can attest to the fact that he [Jesus] was there for us, in many ways.  When he said “I will never leave you or forsake you,” that verse really became real to me.  Just looking back at every moment where we had a lack, he made up the difference.  Every time I felt as if I didn’t really know what to do, he always provided & always made a way.  And so that really cemented my understanding of who he was as a provider.  The Lord really keeps & satisfies, even in the midst of hardship.  

And the second thing is, I remember watching The Passion of the Christ for the first time in movie theaters.  And movie that really broke me.  Like I said, I was saved at a young age & I knew Jesus.  But, to see what he actually did, on that magnitude that was never filmed before, it really hit home; the sacrifice that he really made for me.  And so I really was convicted at that point to really understand that he is was who he said he was.  That he really came to die for our sins.  And he committed to that for us.  

WHY DO PEOPLE NEED JESUS?

People need Jesus because people are lost & people are in sin & people need a way out.  And Jesus is the only answer.  We were all born in sin & shaped in iniquity.  We were all basically on our way to hell.  We didn’t do anything other than be born to be sinners because of what Adam did in the beginning.  But, Jesus made a way by dying for our sins & rising again so that we can have eternal life if we can accept the truth of the Gospel, that he came to die for our sins & cleanse us.  I feel like many of us feel like we can do without him, but in the end, it doesn’t really matter what your life looks like.  We are all sinners.  And until you believe in Jesus you will not be able to see Heaven, you will not be able to see Jesus, you will not be able to claim eternal life.  And so we need Jesus.  We need salvation.  We need the Lord & savior.  There is really no way around that.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING ABOUT JEUSUS YOU WISH EVERYONE UNDERSTOOD OR KNEW ABOUT JESUS?

That he really, really loves you.  You know we’re living in a world where love can often times be transactional or we only love those who love us because it’s easy.  And Jesus when he came to earth & died for us, while we were yet sinners he died for us.  And that’s love.  To really love someone & sacrifice for someone knowing they don’t want you, knowing that they don’t know you exist or even care; that magnitude of love, that magnitude of compassion where he sat with sinners & ate with them no matter who criticized & who said a bunch of evil things about him because of it.  He made sure to note to us that his love was completely going across the board.  There’s really no condition behind his love.  He is absolutely love personified.  There’s nothing you can ever do to make him stop loving you.  Nothing you can ever do.  The Bible says that all are called to repentance.  There’s nothing you can ever do to make yourself not good enough to come to God because he will always accept you.  I think that’s the beauty of God himself because God is love.  His very essence is love.  And Jesus is love.  His compassion that he has for us.  Just knowing that he can identify with our own needs, our own struggles because he went through it when he was here on earth.  So he knows & understands what we go through.  And knowing that everything that we do he knows about & he still loves us anyway.  I think that is something I really want to stress to people because we’re living in a world where it’s just easy to just push someone to the side.  It’s just easy to abandon someone for not believing in your principles.  Or to even feel as if you’re not wanted for whatever reason.  But there is a God in Heaven, there’s Jesus, his son, who is the very epitome of everything that love stands for.  That’s what I really, really want people to understand.

100 PROJECTS

I am inherently a lazy person. I have a million ideas in my head (and my notes app) but zero evidence of them in the real world. I have made several attempts in the past to rectify this to no avail. This time will probably be no different but here it goes anyway:

The idea is to work on and ideally finish a 100 projects before 2019 ends in 147 days.

The areas I'm looking to work at so far are:

Writing : Blog, TV writing, Screenwriting, Game writing, Novel writing, Short stories, Mini Poetry books, Songwriting.

Computer Vision : Implementing some basic applications in the field like Facial Recognition and Object Tracking.

UI/UX : Mockups and prototypes for mobile apps and websites.

Graphic Design : Reimagined posters for movies, tv shows, album covers etc, anything else I can think of.

Artificial Intelligence : Projects that will need to done as a part of my AI course in Fall and any other ideas I come up with.

Machine Learning : Projects that will need to done as a part of my AI course in Fall and any other ideas I come up with.

Mobile Application Development : Some basic apps for any of the other projects I create along the way.

Website Development : Some basic website for any of the other projects I create along the way. A portfolio website.

Graphics : Projects that will need to done as a part of my AI course in Fall and any other ideas I come up with.

Animation : Small projects that can be made by following tutorials. Maybe one short story based on a writing project if time permits.

Game Design/Development : Basic games by following along with tutorials. Games based on original ideas if time permits.

Language : Be able to carry on a conversation in a language I don't know right now. This one is a bit vague right now.

This is definitely overambitious but as long as I can complete atleast 25 projects I am calling it a success. The main goal is to develop a habit of working on projects and finding this thing called discipline along the way.

Anyone else interested in jumping along on this insane bandwagon is welcome. I would love to see other people rocking this challenge. It will be a good motivator to not quit myself!

#100Projects

Last Saturday I had the chance to shoot a charity flag football event #100Projects “Tackling the Digital Divide” thrown by my good friend Myrtis, creator of #100Projects and hosted by XFL wide receiver of the Washington Defenders, AJ Hendy. I also donated 30 shirts towards the event and the cause; providing learning tablets and laptops to underprivileged DC public school kids.

Virtual learning is hard enough when you have a working laptop but for more than 30% of city kids don’t even have that and this event was thrown to help bridge that gap. It takes a village and it was great seeing my friends come together and do this for a great cause! S/O to the #100Projects team and all my guys for coming out in that heat and playing for the kids despite covid and everything else going on in the world these days.

WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?

Jesus is an example to me of what love looks like, of what leadership looks like, of what faith looks like.  I really couldn’t be where I am today without Jesus’s guidance, love, everything.  I really don’t know what more to say, you know, it’s just the ultimate love, ultimate sacrifice, ultimate healer, redeemer & just amazingness.  He’s just a perfect gift of love.  

HOW DID YOU BECOME CONVICTED JESUS IS THE REAL DEAL, THAT IS WHO HE SAID HE WAS?

Mmmm, yah there’s, there’s something about the name Jesus.  I grew up in church & I always knew that Jesus was this great person, but sometimes you kind of think that he’s some myth, made up character or something like that. For me the real deal came a few years ago when I was in Baltimore, Maryland & it was an actual, this was the first time I actually, well maybe not the first time, but I had an actual spiritual attack on my life.  And I felt like someone was trying to kill me, in the spiritual realm.  And I know it may sound a little far fetched, or whatever the case may be, but I… I was wide awake, but I felt like the darkness came over me & I felt like my hands being bound & my legs being bound while I was in bed, my mouth being covered.  I felt like I started to suffocate.  And I heard like this voice talking gibberish in my ear & it, it was a crazy experience. And I felt like I couldn’t breath.  And I started to fight for my life & I’m wiggling & I’m going crazy & not even out loud because again I felt like my mouth was being covered, but in my mind I screamed out the name “Jesus”.  And in that instant, everything that I felt was fighting me, vanished.  And the room literally went from dark to light in that moment.  I was gasping for air, I was crying & it was literally like maybe 5, 6 in the morning & I turned over in bed & a thought came into my mind to “call your sister.”  My sister at that time was in Connecticut.  So I called my sister up & I said “hey you’re not gonna believe what happened, I don’t know what I just experienced, but I heard these voices in my head & I felt like somebody was trying to suffocate me, I felt like something crazy.  I explained more to her & she said “Carl, I heard those same exact voices.”  And I said “What?  What happened?”  She said “I felt like I heard somebody, yelling or chanting in my ear & I felt this dark presence in my room.”  And she said “I cast you out in the name of Jesus.”  And everything vanished for her too.  So in the same exact moment, my sister & I heard the same exact voices & we did the same exact thing, we called on the name of Jesus & immediately those voices, the presence, the attacks disappeared. That’s how I know, there is no name, there is nothing greater than the name of Jesus.

WHY DO PEOPLE NEED JESUS?

Oh man!  People need Jesus because you need a good moral example in your life of what to do, what not to do.  There’s a lot of people that are lost & they don’t even know that they’re lost.  Some people just go about their life causin’ harm to people or just existing, you know, but Jesus is who provides a life worth living for you, provides understanding, provides love & guidance as I mentioned before.  You know so this is someone who, if you don’t have Jesus in your life you will think maybe man is the reason why your emotions are the way that they are or other people have the power to change your day, change your mood or whatever the case may be.  But man didn’t give you joy, man can’t take it away.  Jesus is the reason that you’re able to fill your heart with joy, & all the greatness that’s within you can be, can be enhanced if you have Jesus in your life.  

WHAT IS THE ONE THING ABOUT JEUSUS YOU WISH EVERYONE UNDERSTOOD OR KNEW?

Hmmm, I think everyone knows, well I hope that everyone knows that Jesus died for you.  But he died in order to give you life & he died in order for you to understand that love is greater than all things.  Death couldn’t even hold Jesus down & that’s because of the love that was within him.  And one of the key messages, the key phrases, the key things that he was always stressing is that love conquers all.

WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?

Jesus is my savior, Jesus is my big brother, Jesus is my best friend, Jesus is my redeemer, my helper, my comforter, Jesus is everything to me, everything I ever wanted, everything I ever needed.  But the things that I don’t even know that I need that have some unexplained void in my heart, he is the one to fill that need.  That’s who Jesus is to me, Jesus is my everything, my life.

HOW DID YOU BECOME CONVICTED JESUS IS THE REAL DEAL, THAT IS WHO HE SAID HE WAS?

I think growing up, growing up in church we were taught Jesus is the way, the truth & the life, that he died on the cross for my sins,,,like I knew this, but personally as I grew older that wasn’t a reality for me because I was kind of livening off my parent’s faith, so I would always question, I would always look at what’s happening around me.  And it’s like seeing other people drink water, but unless you drink that water yourself, you can’t really relate.  If you see it, you know it’s real, you have eyes that aren’t lying to you, you see that this person is drinking water & that they’re experiencing water it’s great, it tastes good, but if I never that same glass I can’t fully relate, I can’t fully deeply understand how that water tastes.  And it’s funny how Jesus, one of his characteristics, he’s labeled as the living water.  The Bible talks about taste & see that the Lord is good, so I guess that deep down I was yearning for that taste & I didn’t know that I was.  So to kind of give an understanding of when Jesus became real to me or when who he said he was became a reality to my life was at the age of 19 when I was like down on threads, hanging on threads in life, I was in distress, distraught, just far gone & like church was just church.  I was going to church just to warm up a seat, like I wasn’t really living it.  I was in the world, so I was smoking, drinking, running the streets, gangs, so on so forth.  This one particular day, I was inebriated at the time, but very conscious & I was experiencing so much conviction of my life & I was just weighed down & distressed & distraught & so filled with anxiety & I just felt condemned, I felt like yo I’m never gonna make it, I’m going to die & loose my soul, go to hell, like I’m not making it to heaven.  It was just like all of these thoughts at one moment.  And because of how I was feeling, it made me want to go home.  I was at school at the time, I left to go home.  I remember going home, I walk into the house, my mom is in the kitchen & I would usually, I was accustomed to say good afternoon, I said nothing to her, I literally couldn’t speak.  I went, something drew me into my bedroom & I went straight into my bedroom, I fell on my bed & the Bible happened to be right by my bed & immediately I just grabbed it & I just opened it.  I didn’t turn to a specific page, I didn’t look for a specific book, chapter, nothing, I just grabbed the Bible & opened it in a sense of like tell me something!  You know what I mean & as soon as I opened it, the first words that jumped out at me from the page were do not be afraid for I will never leave you or forsake you.  Immediately as I read those words, everything I was feeling, everything, the noise the thoughts, everything went away like that /snaps fingers/ & it was replaced with love, compassion, a peace a joy.  I felt love, for the first time I felt Jesus, for the first time he made himself real to me.  This was the first time I that tasted God & my view of God from being this judge that wants to condemn the world for their sins, that wants to condemn me for my sins, immediately that changed to him being a father.  No father would turn away his children if he came back saying Daddy I’m sorry.  That was the moment when I was running, not knowing where I was running to, but I was running & I turned a corner & I bumped chests with him.  And oh I fell in his arms & I felt his love & from that day forward I knew Jesus was real 100%.  Like no one could change it, no one could take that away from me.  That was a concrete & endearing experience that I had, that I kept to myself for 3 over years, I didn’t tell anyone about it because it was that dear to me.  Like you Jesus is real!  And from that day forward in knowing that he’s real, that he’d revealed himself to me, it finally planted in me a desire to change.  Of course I wanted to change before, like I know what I’m doing is wrong, but I couldn’t stop.  But this time I experienced his love & it was a different type of desire to where like I don’t want to hurt him.  I really want to stop these things because I don’t want to hurt God. Not, not like I really want to stop these things because I know it’s wrong but not it’s I want to stop these things because I don’t want to hurt Jesus.  And that was the desire I had now, encountering him at the age of 19.

WHY DO PEOPLE NEED JESUS?

To state the obvious, we’re all sinners, including myself, we’re all sinners we all fall short of the glory of God.  No one man is good, no one has ever lived up & fulfilled the law.  No one has ever lived up to the righteous requirements in which the law needed in order to be fulfilled, we all fall short.  So we have a record, everyone has a record.  Everyone’s record varies in length, but the fact is you have a record if you sin once you can’t undo that wrong in your life.  I’ll that that obvious we need Jesus because the Bible states that the wages of sin is death.  So there is a cost, there’s a penalty for sin.  Something, a price has to be paid for sin & the cost unfortunately is death & the idea is it’s either you pay for your own sin or you allow someone else to pay for you.  Regardless to what, there’s a payment & unfortunately no one else on earth was perfect, without flaw, without blemish to be able to pay the price for everyone else.  So God himself had to step into time & take on human flesh & blood to be able to pay the price himself & die for us.  This is why we need Jesus ‘cause without Jesus we’re lost, without Jesus we’re hopeless, without Jesus we have to pay for our own sins.  Sin has left us to doom.  Jesus brings hope, Jesus brings a way out.  Aside from our own sin people need Jesus because people need love.  Love is, love is, it’s recorded that love is the most powerful force in the universe.  The Bible teaches that God is love.  Men are pursuing & looking for love, but they’re running from God.  So there’s a disconnect from the true love that man’s heart need, there’s a void that each heart has that needs to be filled & Jesus is the only one who can fill this void.  Jesus is the only one who can produce that love.  That deep satisfaction of a soul, of a heart that nothing else can fill.  Drugs can’t fill it, money can’t fill it, fame can’t fill it, success, a spouse, a family, it will forever be empty.  It’s like falling through a hole that it can’t fit in.  There’s a God shaped hole in everyone’s heart that’s only fit for God & no one else.  And this is where Jesus steps in.  Without that you’re going to there will always be a sense of, like something’s missing.  People need Jesus because with or without him life will still be hard.  So it’s either do life on your own or you have a helper in this life, to comfort you, to take care of you, to wrap you in his arms, to reassure you, to affirm you & just let you know that you can make it.  That’s who Jesus is.  Yes we have friends, we have family, we have people of sorts that can play those roles in minor places, but they’re not with you 24/7.  When you’re alone whose there?  Who can you talk to? Jesus is the only one.  People need Jesus, he is of high necessity to man, the most important thing that man needs is Jesus.  And I could go on & on & on, the countless ways that he fulfills the needs of our lives, but his word said it best; I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life, no one comes to the father but through me.  We need life.  We need a way.  Without a way we’re wandering.  Without the truth we’re left with lies.  We need Jesus.  I need Jesus.  You need Jesus.  People need Jesus.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING ABOUT JEUSUS YOU WISH EVERYONE UNDERSTOOD OR KNEW?

I would say the one thing, a verse a John 3:16 &17 comes to my mind; for God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.  Now the following verse, verse 17 says but God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.  So from that verse, the one thing that I would want everyone to know, to understand about Jesus is he came to save that which are lost.  He came for the broken hearted.  He came for the downcast.  He came for those who are desolate in their hearts.  Jesus came to save.  Nothing about Jesus, nothing about his character, nothing about his purpose his plan falls under the line of condemnation, him condemning us.  No, no, no, no, no.  Jesus was driven from a place of love, from a place of love Jesus humbled himself & came into this world for you and for me.  To die on the cross for our sins, to save us from Hell, from the penalty of sin, to save us from the misery of life & all that sin brings with it.  He came to save not to condemn.  So that’s the one thing I that would want people to truly understand about Jesus.  He’s a savior.  That’s it.

100 Projects : Update

I've been thinking. It might be easier to get more projects done if I set a focus for each week. Keep in mind this is all just a big experiment for me to try and figure out ways to overcome my procrastination, build discipline, and to somehow magically put the things in my brain out into the world.

With this in mind, I think I'm going to dedicate this week to Design. Graphic, UI/UX, and Interaction design to be specific. I've found a bunch of courses on Coursera. I'm going to watch those videos and read the resources when it feels to hard to *do*. The one rule is that I can't just watch/read though. I have to make as well. Not daily. But make something before the week ends. Maybe jot down a bunch of ideas as well.
