British India Currency Bank Notes
Tumblr media
British Indian Currency Bank Notes refer to the historical currency Notes that were used in India during British colonial rule. These Notes were issued by the British East India Company and later by the British Raj, which was the British administration in India from 1858 to 1947. In British and Indian culture or history, there isn't a specific Currency Noted that fits the description. There have been various Notes issued by the British government or the Royal Mint that Commemorate India or its historical figures.
We have a wide range Collections of British Indian Currency Bank Notes like 1 Rupee, Ten Rupees, George-VI Rare 100RS Note, 10 Rupees Bank Note, King George V, 5 Rupees Bank Note, King George V, 2 Rupees Bank Note, Queen Elizabeth Notes, Queen Victoria Currency Note, Fancy British India Currency Notes, Rare British India Currency Notes and Many more Collections of British India Currency Notes.

Hi! Are you familiar with the Aberdeen Bestiary? It's from 1200 and similar to the Ashmole Bestiary. There's a really high-quality scan available online (you'll find it easily via google). It's also transcribed, translated and has a good index. A few highlights are e.g. the cat licking its "backside" (p23v), the "owl" (p50r) and an incredible Adam and Eve picture (p93v). But there's more to explore, including sketches and notes. Highly recommend!
This is an excellent rec! Shoutout to the University of Aberdeen for having by far the best & most navigable website I’ve seen in this field. The Aberdeen Bestiary project is, like, disarmingly straightforward to use and I love that they have transcriptions as well as translations and commentary on the physical construction of the manuscript :) Also, there’s a section on the digitization process that’s just neat from a practical standpoint.
They’ve got a stricter than average copyright policy, so I won’t post any samples, but it’s worth checking out! I recommend the “uses of gemstones” section starting at fol.100r for some quality rock magic.

Pennsylvania Dutch
Fifty-two discoveries from the BiblioPhilly project, No. 44/52
South Netherlands Book of Hours (The Hawley Hours), Lancaster, Franklin & Marshall College, Shadek-Fackenthal Library, Misc. Ms. 146, fol. 13r (with detail)
Part of the joy of the BiblioPhilly project is that it encompasses institutions of all kinds and sizes, from large and well-known repositories of Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts like the Free Library of Philadelphia, right down to smaller institutions that have just a single such codex in their collections. This is case for Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The College’s Shadek-Fackenthal Library houses this North Netherlandish Book of Hours of circa 1470, which I assumed was effectively unknown in the scholarship on Dutch manuscript illumination, since it only came to the College in 1988 as a gift of Elaine Hawley (widow of the novelist Cameron Hawley) and is therefore absent from the Seymour de Ricci census of Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts in the United States and its Supplement.1 There is also no mention of the Franklin & Marshall book in the catalogue of the landmark exhibition of Dutch manuscripts held at the Morgan Library & Museum in 1990, which did however include many examples of the genre held in other North American libraries.2 The manuscript is also not present (as of yet) in the otherwise amazingly comprehensive Luxury Bound corpus of manuscripts illustrated in the Netherlands (1400-1550).
Misc. Ms. 146, fol. 1r and fol. 51r
The book begins with an unillustrated calendar (fols. 1r-12v) before continuing with the Hours of the Virgin (fols. 13r-50r), which is introduced by a historiated initial featuring the Virgin and Child and a full border containing angels, the only figurative decoration in the book. The figurative decoration appeared to me to be attributable to the workshop of the Masters of the Zwolle Bible, who decorated many devotional and liturgical books for the Utrecht market in the second half of the fifteenth century. Other major sections are introduced by large illuminated initials featuring expansive areas of gold and foliate bar borders typical of Dutch book illustration of the mid-fifteenth century: the Hours of the Cross (fols. 51r-73v), Hours of the Holy Spirit (fols. 74r-98v), and Hours the Holy Wisdom (fols. 100r-121r), as well as the Penitential Psalms, Litany, and Prayers (fols. 122r-140v) and Office of the Dead (fols. 142r-178r). The textual subdivisions within each section are marked by illuminated initials and bar borders with flourishes.
Misc. Ms. 146, fol. 74r and fol. 100r
As it turns out, the Franklin & Marshall manuscript was not entirely unknown to the wider world. In fact, it had previously been digitized as part of the Digital Library of Illuminated Manuscrits. a regional project initiated by Lehigh University in 2005. In some ways, this was an early prototype for the Bibliotheca Philadelphiensis project, and indeed we were able to re-use the high quality imaging from this previous project when integrating the manuscript into the OPenn repository for BiblioPhilly, which obviously meant not only a time savings but, from a conservation perspective, less stress on the binding and less potential for inadvertent damage. In any case, as I discovered, the manuscript’s relatively early presence online meant that it was discoverable to specialist scholars. It is mentioned, illustrated, and included in a table of page ornament styles in an article published in 2017 by Remi van Schaïk and Jildou Bijlstra in the Historisch Jaarboek Groningen, a regional journal dedicated to the cultural heritage of Groningen and the surrounding area.3 There, the manuscript is placed within its proper context and compared to other books of hours with very similar border and initial decoration that can be attributed to the Zwolle group. Though the article maintains the dating of ca. 1450 for the Franklin and Marshall manuscript – a date which had been assigned rather cursorily in the description made of the book by the dealer Lawrence Witten in July 1988, when it was gifted to the college by Hawley – the comparisons suggested by van Schaïk and Bijlstrain make clear that we are dealing with a book produced around 1470.
A further breakthrough would be finding the previous whereabouts of the so-called Hawley Hours, which I have endeavored to do using the Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts, to no avail. An ownership note written in pencil, in French, on verso of first upper flyleaf reads “11, Ex de M. de La Grange, no. 9.” and also includes a brief mention of the manuscript’s missing leaves. This may provide a link to the book’s earlier presence in a French collection, but since “de La Grange” is a common surname in France, further research is needed on this front.

Friend: Hey! What are your plans after two months when the 10th Board exams are over. Me: I got no clue. What about you? Friend: My cousin lives in Nagpur and he is preparing for IIT and he told me to come to Nagpur and study for it too. Me: What's IIT? Friend: IIT is like a prestigious college. It's a really amazing place. (Teacher heard us and joined the conversation) Teacher: Yeah you both should definitely try it. You have to give JEE exam for it. Students prepare for that exam in 11th and 12th. Me: Sounds really good. I'm in. After two months, we'll go to Nagpur and see what we can do. For other people, luck is when they find a 100Rs note lying on the road or when they win a lottery or when some interviewer asks them an easy question in their interview. For me? Well........ Luck. Luck. Luck. Luck came in my life only this once. The conversation that I just wrote was the single point in my life where my life just turned upside down completely. I mean one random single conversation man! I can't believe it myself. It's been 6 years since that. The way my life turned... It was freaking amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A little-known Guide for the Renaissance Merchant
Fifty-two discoveries from the BiblioPhilly project, No. 23/52
Giorgio di Lorenzo Chiarini, Libro che tracta di marcantie et usanze di paesi, Tuscany (Florence?), 1481, scribe: Lodovicho Bertini, Philadelphia, Temple University Libraries, Special Collections Research Center, (SPC) MSS BH 007 COCH, fol. 9r
The cache of Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts housed at Temple University Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center includes an overlooked source for our understanding of Renaissance economics: a rare manuscript copy of the commercial manual in Italian known as the Libro che tracta di marcantie et usanze di paesi or Book concerning the Trade and Customs of Various Places (MSS BH 007 COCH). This finely written manuscript represents a genre of text essential to the Renaissance merchant. In addition to learning the elements of mathematics and geometry (represented in items like the University of Pennsylvania’s LJS 27 and LJS 488), those who traded in the interconnected Mediterranean world of the fifteenth century needed to be well-informed about the types of goods available in a large number of cities, as well as the units of measure and coinage used, their denominations, and their exchange rates with major domestic currencies. Thus, the manuscript at Temple contains well-organized information for converting weights, measures, and money across Western Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Caucasus, with major sections devoted to the trading capitals of Florence, Venice, and Genoa.
Briefly described in the Supplement to De Ricci’s Census,1 and again in an issue of the hard-to-find Temple University Library Bulletin in 1954, the manuscript seems to have escaped the notice of economic historians. The authors of the Supplement understood that the book was related to the much earlier merchant’s manual, Francesco Balducci Pegolotti’s La pratica della mercatura,2 which was written around 1340. But they also noted in passing that the Temple manuscript is actually a complete copy of a later text whose original composition is attributed to the Florentine merchant Giorgio di Lorenzo Chiarini: the Libro di mercatantie et usanze de’ paesi, or Book of Trade and Customs of Countries. Only three other manuscript copies of this text were known to Franco Borlandi, who produced a critical edition of the text in 1936.3 The earliest of these, dated to 1458, is now in Florence, as is another dated 1483 (Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, cod. Pal. Panciatichiano 72 and cod. Magliabechiano, XXIX, 203, respectively). A third, probably close in date to 1480, is Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, ms. it. 911. A comparison between these manuscripts and MSS BH 007 COCH shows marked similarities, though the Temple University manuscript is the only one to have originally included an introductory miniature.
Giorgio di Lorenzo Chiarini, El libro di mercatantie et usanze de’ paesi, Paris, BnF, ms. it. 911, fol. 1r and ibid., Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, cod. Magliabechiano, XXIX, 203, fol 1r (photo from Borlandi 1936)
Editions of the book were printed in 1481, around 1497, and 1498, while the widespread diffusion of the book’s contents was further assured by its verbatim inclusion within the two earliest editions of Renaissance Italy’s most popular text on mathematics for merchants, Luca Pacioli’s Summa de arithmetica, geometria, proportioni et proportionalità (Venice: Paganinus de Paganinis, 1494; Toscolano: Paganinus de Paganinis, 1523). However, the printed versions of the book abandon the tabular layout of the manuscripts and compress much of the information into running text, rendering it less useful as a reference tool. It seems clear, then, that our manuscript is not based on the first edition of Chiarini’s work, produced the same year as the manuscript.
The 1481 edition of Chiarini’s text (left), and its position in the 1494 edition of Pacioli (right)
Though our manuscript’s introductory miniature on folio 9r has been excised, and the coat-of-arms below it obliterated, the book helpfully contains a colophon on folio 100r stating that it was copied by a certain Lodovicho Bertini on an unspecified day in July 1481. A coat-of-arms of the Bertini family is discernable on a terracotta monument by della Robbia in the church of San Jacopo in Gallicano, north of Lucca 4, and it is not impossible that the same arms were originally present in the manuscript’s escutcheon. On folio 100r of the manuscript there is also an ownership inscription from the following century written by a certain “Matteo di Lorenzo du Matteo di Francesco,” stating that the book was purchased on 25 March 1591 in Florence, by which time it would already have been seen as an antique. Given the changes over time in commercial conventions and currencies, the usefulness of such a treatise would have diminished quickly, especially during the Age of Discovery. Between its possession by this owner (who may have had it fitted with its current binding) and its presence in the collection of the vellomaniac Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792–1872) as his ms. 6994, the book’s whereabouts are unknown.
(SPC) MSS BH 007 COCH, fol. 100r (final page of manuscript, with colophon by Lodovicho Bertini and ownership inscription of Matteo di Lorenzo di Matteo di Francesco)
Though facts about the copyist Bertini’s life are scarce, his work as a scribe is documented elsewhere. A year before completing this book, for example, he is known to have copied another manuscript known alternately as the Pratica di mercatura or Alphabeto di tutti e costumi, cambi, monete, pesi…. This manuscript is now in Pisa, Biblioteca universitaria, ms. 539, and as far as we can tell based on a list of the manuscript’s contents and a partial transcription, it is virtually identical with the present manuscript, despite never having been identified correctly as a copy of Chiarini’s Libro di mercatantie et usanze de’ paesi.5 Knowing the proper of the source of the text, and understanding that it was not an original work by Bertini, we can start to question why he undertook to make two copies of the same preexisting manual. Was one intended for a friend or relative, or for sale? Or did Bertini plan to keep both copies? A comparison of the reproduction and transcription found in Luciano Lenzi’s article from 2003 on the Pisa codex6 with a detail of folio 92v from our manuscript is instructive:
As is evident from this comparison, our copy is written in a more formal script, with a more refined layout.  It may have been a keep-at-home copy of the book complete with heraldry and introductory miniature, while the copy now in Pisa may have been intended as a more utilitarian vademecum to accompany Bertini’s travels.

Digital Marketing Strategy – 7 Questions To Consider Before Planning Strategy
Tumblr media
Well! Digital Marketing, is the trendiest and most effective way of marketing, people are trying to make the best use of it. But it is quite natural, that everyone is not really aware of all the methods of digital marketing and their results. Which is why, it is very important for you to get engaged with an external agency like us , who will help you to plan the best digital marketing strategy for your business, by knowing your budget and requirement. Before planning any kind of marketing strategy, you need to know about the following 7 questions.
1. PRODUCTS/SERVICES:
Before planning any strategy for you, we try to study what your products are or what kind of services you provide. Basically, we try to understand your whole business deeply. We try to know what your products are, i.e is it E-Commerce based? Or do you provide any kind of services? Are you a consultancy or a doctor or maybe a manufacturer? We do a proper background check and only then we suggest a suitable marketing strategy for your business.
2. TARGET REGION:
It is very important for us to know where is your target audience. That is, from which area they belong to. This will eventually help us to pin-point the target region geographically. It differs from business to business. We can generate leads from even 1km target area.
3. TARGET AUDIENCE:
Target Audience is another aspect, which is really essential to note before planning your best suitable strategy. It means that we need to know about your client base, that is which sector your audience is from. Your target audience can be patients, local public, doctors, farmers, manufacturers, dealers, etc. This data is necessary for more effective campaigns.
4. NATURE OF AUDIENCE:
What is the nature of your audience? An important question to be dealt with. There can be two kinds of audiences, i.e B2B or B2C. Which means, does your business deal with bulk buyers or the end customer.
