“Only Shallow” kicks things off with a bang – four of them, to be precise – with O’Ciosoig’s iconic snare attack serving as a battle cry before being joined by the beatific jet engine of MBV’s sheets of sound, less a rock band than a turbulent sea set ablaze by a red and pink sunset. I got to do a track-by-track breakdown of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, my favourite album in the whole world for over a decade, for Spectrum Culture. Pretty stoked on this one! As usual, click the Link In Bio to read the full review. . . . . . #MyBloodyValentine #Loveless #Shoegaze #Shoegazer #ShoegazeClassics #indieclassics #KevinShields #ColmOCiosoig #BilindaButcher #DebbieGooge #AlanMoulder #1001Albums #GreatAlbums #TheGreatestAlbumsOfAllTime #November4 #1991 #November41991 #90smusic #90sclassics #OnlyShallow #Loomer #Touched #ToHereKnowsWhen #WhenYouSleep #BlownAWish #JSimpson #thesublime #AlbumReview #SpectrumCulture #ForestpunkClassics https://www.instagram.com/p/CpQJhuwMZ6H/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Talk, Talk, Talk, The Psychedelic Furs. 1981
Smash Hits Review
“One of the most exciting sounds in contemporary rock...Rep's lyrics are...a mixture of the genius and inept. Well worth a place on your turntable” 8/10
Mark Ellen
1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die
"Talk, Talk, Talk is their finest moment. Their influence can be traced across the spectrum, with elements of their approach appearing in everything from Ryan Adams to the vocal style of VNV Nation. ..One of the most significant, but underrated British rock bands of the 1980s."

Over the last couple years I have been chipping away at 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die Book by Robert Dimery.
I am currently at 651 out of 1,001, not including albums I have heard before but want to listen to again.
Every now and then there will be an album that blows me away.
William Orbit's Strange Cargo III (1993) is one of them.
4 out of 5 stars

Japan - Quiet Life "JAPAN releases the LP "Quiet Life" on Hansa Records in England. Tracks on the new album are "Fall In Love With Me," "Desperate," "In-Vogue," "Halloween," "Alien," "The Other Side Of Life," and the title track "Quiet Life." There is also a cover of the Velvet Underground song "All Tomorrow's Parties." The LP marks the change in Japan as a guitar-glam band, to more of an electronic funk inspired group. Reviewing the Lp, Sounds magazine said, "You never know quite what to expect with Japan. In a seemingly ceaseless quest for success, their short career has to date spanned at least four markedly different musical styles. And yet somehow, despite the often calculated, contrived nature of these moves, the band have never become victims of the changes..... While I'm unsure that Japan will ever become a 'major act' (this despite the 'big in '80' predictions currently being bandied about) 'Quiet Life' is already an album of the year. And this with the current 12 months barely four days old. Believe it." - Post-Punk Diary, George Gimarc . #Japan #QuietLife #OnThisDay #MusicHistory #PostPunk #OnThisDay #OnThisDayInMusicHistory #PostPunkHistory #Glam #GlamRock #January4 #January41980 #1980 #80s #80sMusic #1001Albums #1001AlbumsYouMustHearBeforeYouDie #440 #PostPunkDiary #PostPunkChronicles #NewRomantic #DavidSylvian #RichardBarbieri #RobDean #MickKarn #StevenJansen #SimonBell #AllTomorrowsParties #MusicJournalism #JSimpson https://www.instagram.com/p/CJpmhepIRr2/?igshid=1pxbi7ngfzlif

Album 1: In the Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
A Wee Small bit of history: This is Sinatra's ninth album. As a parallel to much of his romantic, woo-ing music, In the Wee Small Hours is a concept album about heartbreak, depression, loneliness, and melancholy. 1955, Capitol Records.
It's not your average Sinatra, but I think I liked it more because of it. Maybe my existence just leans a bit more towards the melancholy, but I want to listen to this while I drink red wine after dark or drink slightly too strong coffee before everyone else is awake.
This has all of the perfect aspects of sad bastard music, with that lovely '50s orchestra accompaniment. I find myself wanting to have and to lose a lover just so that I'll feel this on a baser level.
More than slightly jazzy with a dash of slow swing, this one is a keeper. Personal favorites from the track list are "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning", "Can't We Be Friends" "Last Night When We Were Young", and "Ill Wind".

36/1001 - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, by Bob Dylan
It's absolutely wonderful what a man like these one can do with just a guitar, his voice, and the sporadic harmonica. The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is just that. Of course, with some classic inside: "Blowin' in the Wind", "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall", and "Masters of War".
The performance of the guitar is even more spectacular in "Girl from the North Country", and in "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right". "Down the Highway" is somewhere between blues and folk, . And if you're looking for some examples of that sporadic harmonica, check "Bob Dylan's Blues" or "Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance".
Definitely worth listening to "Oxford Town", "Talkin' World War III Blues", and "I Shall Be Free". I also found "Corrina, Corrina" very captivating.
Many of the songs in this record represent a clear protest and a critic to the society of those years. What I know for sure, is that it's great music. And it's Bob Dylan's.

Stand! By Sly and the Family Stone (1969) #160/1001 Completely and utterly extraordinary in every respect. The way the group combines their vocals is worth the entrance fee alone. This is an album that I could listen to every day and never get tired of it. Ok so I'd make one change, the track Sex Machine is nearly 14 minutes long, which is too long for any song, no matter how good, so I would swap this with the totally amazing Soul Clappin'II (a bonus track) and you are left with a near perfect record. Next record: Violator by Depeche Mode
