Miles is 100% a theater kid you can't convince me otherwise

last song: i’m not 100% sure since my mom and i were just listening to christmas songs on the radio in the car, but last song i listened to on spotify was non-stop from hamilton :] i love when i can end on an actual break (either ending the show or, like this situation, stopping at intermission. just something that’s satisfying To Me.)

favorite color: i think it’ll always be blue, though i sincerely love pink and yellow as well.

last book: don’t ask me that!!!!!! i’m still struggling to get into a novel. i MISS reading novels!!!! can’t find one that i can sink my teeth into just yet. but, besides that, i read the Bible every day :3

last tv show: the crown. though i’m watching the crown and the chosen concurrently, both of them being comfy rewatches. (and yes, i do think it’s funny that both their titles are The C—)

2024 Game of the Year Countdown #11: Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch, 2017

I got this game for Christmas in 2018, and I’m not quite sure why it kept falling down my backlog list, but I never actually put it in and gave it a try. 

While I have a lot of nostalgia for Super Mario 64 and still think it’s the best 3D Mario game, I have always felt that Mario games work best as 2D side-scrollers. Perhaps that’s got something to do with growing up in an era when gaming = platformers, I’m not sure. The Galaxy games were only okay, and I had no taste for Sunshine. 3D World was decent, but it felt phoned in, at times. Odyssey feels like a return to form, despite a few issues I have with it.

One of my favorite things about Mario games is that if you’ve played one, you can come back and play another years later and the controls feel familiar. Odyssey feels great and all the movements and jumps Mario had in 64 are still there and generally work the same. Tutorials feel unobtrusive (for once!), despite the fact that they are so frequent. The camera does still fight you though, which is annoying. 

Theming in most worlds is well done, especially in colors and design. However, I found the music to be generally lacking. We do get a few fun songs for scripted events, but I didn’t think any world tracks were special or memorable, which was a bit disappointing. 

As for the worlds themselves, I found myself returning to certain ones much more often than others, such as the one that gave us Mexican Mario. Some only saw me as long as I needed to be there, and I never returned. It’s not too different from any other Mario game in that respect.

I used to hate when games gave us dozens of costume changes, thinking it was “empty” additional content. And while it’s fun to put Mario in a sombrero or a wedding dress, I do miss the power-ups we once had, and the corresponding costume changes that went along with them. I fully understand that you can’t just make every Mario game with only mushrooms and fire flowers, that’d get stale after 40 years of Mario games. Additionally, Mario games have kind of tried to draw a line between 3D and 2D by generally keeping the traditional power-ups in the 2D games. Instead, the 3D games will embrace a new gimmick like Cappy, FLUDD, or, most regrettably, motion controls. But, it was still a little strange that we didn’t get any mushrooms or super stars, two of the most iconic things in gaming. (I know some stars show up, but they aren’t the invincibility super stars I’m talking about) Most of the power-ups we do get in Odyssey feel restrictive, if I’m honest, since they limit our movement. I doubt people were clamoring for Manhole Cover Mario or Sunglasses Moai Mario, even if I do appreciate the throwback to Super Mario Land with that one.

My biggest gripe with the game is more of a mixed feeling than a straight up gripe: there are too many moons. After just a few days of play, I had 100 moons and had only been to two worlds. The game has so many to encourage exploration and to get us to try new things; but moons are so easy to get, it almost feels trivial to get them. Stars in Mario 64 felt much more…special? They weren’t necessarily difficult to get, but most required more work or thought, and therefore felt like more of a reward at the end. Moons are literally everywhere.

However, I like that each world has so many moons because when I really enjoy a world, I can spend more time there. You can buy hints to find new moons from Toad, and I have yet to run out of hints in any world. So by that measure, I like how many moons there are. Like I said, it’s a bit of a mixed feeling. 

When I really think about it, they might have put so many moons in to appeal to people with short attention spans or little free time. Play for 10 minutes. Get three moons. Feel accomplished. It still doesn’t change the mixed feelings I have, but this sort of style is a change from some of the 100 hour JRPGs I’ve been playing, so I kind of welcome the change of pace. Additionally, really frustrating moons can be passed over because there’s always an easier one somewhere nearby. It gives players a choice of how they want to play, and I have to appreciate that.

As I made my way through the game, I found new worlds less and less interesting. I can’t quite grasp why this was happening, short of just wanting to see the ending, but while I spent a whole week exploring Mexico, I was trying to get out of Soup World as fast as possible. By the time I got to the very end, I was ready for the final fight. It’s weird to feel this way with Mario games because it feels like I’ve left a part of my childhood behind by not enjoying Mario games as much. I still had a good time with Odyssey, but I doubt I’ll be returning to it very often.

A guide to Atarashii Gakko!

Atarashii Gakko is a Japanese girl group formed in 2015. In 2017, they signed with Victor entertainment for a Japanese debut, with the song Dokubana. They made their worldwide debut in January 2021 with 88rising with their song NAINAINAI. There are four members, Mizyu (24), Rin (21), Suzuka (21) and Kanon (21).

Mizyu is not only the oldest, but she is also the leader. She was born in Tokyo, is 4'11 and is a Capricorn. Her role is kawaii-but-fierce. When she was a child she was a model, she was also in not only a dance group called ABC under DSK, but she was also a Kyary Kid ( backup dancer for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu)!

Next is Rin. She is 5', a Virgo and she was born in Saitama. Her role is funky. She was a 1st generation model at DSK, and she was a junior model at DANSTREET in 2014. Mizyu and Kanon think she will be the first member to get married, and apparently she cooks rice when she is in a bad mood.

Third is Suzuka. She is the tallest member by 14cm, she stands at 5'6. She is a Sagittarius, and was born in Osaka. Her role is wildcard. She has two older sisters. One of them, Sakika, was a founding member and vocalist in GIRLFRIEND (disbanded in 2021). Her other sister Momoka works on the media team for the website TABI LABO. All three sisters have attended Caless Vocal and Dance School Osaka.

Lastly is Kanon. She is the youngest member, she is a Capricorn, like Mizyu. She is 5' and was born in Gunma. Her role is graceful. Her highest score was 100% and her lowest ever score was 60%! She goes to meet with her friends when she is in a bad mood. She can also run 50m in 8 seconds.

They have two albums, Maenarawanai (2018) and Wakage Ga Itaru (2019). They also have 18 singles: Dokubana (2017), Kimiwaina'17 (2017), Koinosyadanki feat H ZETTRIO (2018), Saisyu Jinrui(2018), Ookami No Uta (2018), Mayoeba Toutoshi (2018), Koi Geba (2019), OTONABLUE (2020), Quesera sera (2020), KOIBUMI (2020), NAINAINAI (2021), Freaks (2021), Pineapple Kyrptonite (2021), SNACKTIME (2021), Free your mind (2022), WOO! For the second time in less than a year, patrons at Blake Shelton's Ole Red Tishomingo witnessed the concert debut of one of his teenage stepsons.

Zuma Rossdale, 15 — the middle of three sons Shelton's wife, pop icon Gwen Stefani, shares with her ex-husband, rocker Gavin Rossdale — played his first public performance Monday, July 29 at Ole Red Tishomingo.

Zuma, who will turn 16 on Aug. 21, covered two songs by up-and-coming Oklahoma country music superstar Zach Bryan during the short acoustic set at his stepfather's hometown restaurant, bar and venue.

"I had no idea that he was going to come out ... and sing until Blake started talking," said concertgoer Jamie McGaugh, a devoted Shelton fan from Coalgate. 

"He did mention Kingston, and he said Kingston's influence was Gwen, but Zuma's influence was him — and he was all proud about that."

An Ada native, Shelton, 48, made Tishomingo his adopted hometown several years ago, and he opened the first location in his Ole Red bar and restaurant chain there in 2017. The eight-time Grammy nominee is known to occasionally perform at his Johnston County hot spot.

Shelton and Stefani, 54, started dating in 2015 after they met when they were both working as coaches on the hit NBC series "The Voice." The couple live on the sprawling Ten Point Ranch near Tishomingo, where they wed on July 3, 2021.

Last August, Kingston, then 17, played his first public set inside The Doghouse music hall at Ole Red Tishomingo, performing a series of original alternative-rock songs. An encouraging Oklahoma audience of about 400 music lovers witnessed his debut, including McGaugh, and her mother, Lanell Eclair, also of Coalgate.

For his debut at Ole Red, Zuma performed a more low-key and down-home show. At about 3 p.m. Monday, Shelton posted on X that he was planning to stop by Ole Red Tishomingo at about 5 p.m. that same day.

"I’m coming by to grab some food and thought I’d hop up and play 3 or 4 songs," he posted on the social media site.

McGaugh barely had time to drive from her Atoka workplace back to Coalgate, collect her mom and her daughter, Mazie McGaugh, and get over to Tishomingo. With the short notice, she said Shelton took the stage in the Ole Red restaurant, rather than the Doghouse music hall, for about 100 fans, mostly locals.

"We made pretty good time. It did dawn on me the other day ... 'He wasn't popped up at Tish in a while; I'd better be on alert because he may be gonna do that, because he does it once or twice a year.' You never know about him. But I never dreamed about it being on a Monday night," she said.

"I was shocked when he walked out. I was taken aback ... because I was like, 'Wait, he never has on a cowboy hat."

Along with the white hat, Shelton took the Ole Red stage in a blue plaid shirt, blue jeans and boots, to perform "Playboys of the Southwestern World," a fan-favorite song he dedicated to his youngest stepson, Apollo. Stefani and Apollo watched the show at a table alongside the pop star's sister-in-law, niece and nephews. Both the boys wore cowboy, hats, too, McGaugh said.

Shelton played "Pour Me a Drink," his new duet with Post Malone, solo before introducing Zuma. The teen took the stage dressed in a pale striped button-down shirt, blue jeans, brown boots and a black cowboy hat and carrying an acoustic guitar.

"This is Zuma, everybody," Shelton said, as the crowd cheered appreciatively.

"How y'all doing?" the teen drawled as he settled on a tall stool.

"Get the microphone where they can hear it," Shelton coached, adjusting the microphones for Zuma.

Strumming his guitar, Zuma sang solo on two popular songs by Bryan: "Oklahoma Smokeshow" and "Revival."

Everybody was excited. I think everybody was very open with Kingston. But this was more of the vibe that's over there, the country music. It seemed like everybody knew everything, and it was very shocking how good his voice was. I had no idea. He was very good," McGaugh said.

After earning rousing applause for his two-song set, Zuma yielded the stage back to Shelton, who closed the half-hour acoustic show with his signature song, "Ol' Red."

"I think those kids love it over here ... and everybody over here loves Gwen and her boys. They really do. I haven't ran into one person that said that they didn't like them, or that they weren't nice," she said

JJ knows his strengths and how to highlight them so even if he isn't that musically gifted he can still keep up! His upbringing didn't allow him to be anything but a little diva and I love that for him but I wonder how his personality fits into the group.

I've been treating this ask like a very fancy bottle of wine, really waiting for the perfect moment to answer it in the most interesting way possible, and now that LOOPiN is FINALLY (!!!) free from New Wave Music and they officially have a new home, I believe a post dissecting how they used to work under Seo CEO's awful control is a must. And here I have the perfect little moment to ramble about it! Which I love!

So, the short answer to your questions is: J.J fits in very badly on a personal level, and most of the other guys consider him unmanageable to say the least, but! LOOPiN as a whole has been so desensitized to Jiahang's (annoying!) personality because, as long as they were under New Wave, they all knew that he was an untouchable constant; both because of his father's grip on the company stock, and because in mid 2021 J.J made the very strategic decision to take active part on backing LOOPiN financially, and he did so by paying for their dorm room accomodations and making that his sole responsability - which is why in some pieces set on their 'flop era' you can notice that their home is just waaaaay too fucking nice.

But yeah, with anyone who's not Minwoo (from late 2020 up until literally a week before he publicly retired from making music), Haegon (often enough) or Hanjae, Jiahang has had very big professional and personal feuds that still linger. It gets ugly sometimes guys, it really does.

NEW WAVE MUSIC's LOOPiN & ITS HIDDEN HIERARCHY:

If in universe iNSYNCs or just people aware of them were to be consulted, they would say that the chain of command and order of company favoritism while LOOPiN were under New Wave Music (2017 - 2023) ended up as:

01. Minwoo; 02. Seungsoo; 03. Haruki; 04. O.z; 05. J.J; 06. Hanjae; 07. Gyujin; 08. Dylan; 09. Taesong; 10. Haegon.

*Former member Lee Beomseok is not included, but just so you know, he wouldn't crack the Top5.

Which, by looking at the graphic you can see it's pretty off! Let's dissect it!

(NOTE: The two white boxes around the Top4 symbolize leadership roles, and they obviously entail the Produce Line, but less obviously, in a ground right above it, stands Minwoo and J.J in a duo that we can informally call as 'LOOPiN's Crisis Management'.)

At the very top of the food chain, we have J.J: As mentioned above, and also said in posts in the past here and there, Jiahang's spot in LOOPiN was 100% bought by his father, but his privilege goes way beyond just sharing surnames with a major sponsor: J.J has an entire personal team of lawyers, a private stylist and his own manager/financial consultant, Han Qiong (39), which puts him miles ahead of everyone else who depended on New Wave's shady and unprepared staff team. Jiahang's influence is also very present in everything on LOOPiN's two last years under New Wave (which came as consequence of him being Minwoo's "apprentice"), but it's all very subtle, as he always hid behind Minwoo to not spoil his incompetent brat persona to CEO Seo Chanhyuk - many marketing stunts, a good parts of their visual identity and even some promoted songs were handpicked by him but signed off as Minwoo's decisions, and even the members don't know that. As of now, speaking of 2023-0T9-Rare-Rhythm-LOOPiN, only Taesong and Haruki are aware of their past almost co-leadership deal and know how frail J.J actually is with this start over on the career department. He has pretty much no idea how and what he should do next now that he doesn't have a clear advantage! A giant really fell!

Minwoo: Even before he took over the official leader position from Taesong in 2021, everyone working with LOOPiN behind the scenes knew Minwoo was the guy in charge: not only was he the frontman of the Produce Line, but not a single decision even outside the group's sound was made without consulting him, mostly because people felt like they should - his... passionate involvement, let's say, about every aspect of the group was very clear. He also kept riding the wave of his Boy Of The Week days as "the golden trainee", and the respect he build in the industry after butting heads with Chanhyuk and his brigade of shareholders to make LOOPiN creative independent, even though it did give everyone consequences - Seo CEO came to HATE his guts right after they debuted, and was a bitch about them just because Minwoo was always just as much of a bitch back. Him making Taesong the leader during their group debut despite Minwoo's obvious crave for that title was just as much of a move made to try to control them as it was petty, childish shit.

O.z: Wu Zhiming is not someone you can restrain, and New Wave Music came to learn that a beat too late; they also didn't know how to fully support him as a music producer, which O.z took no time to notice and start quietly networking his way into opportunities. Now, his music career outside of LOOPiN is the most stable - he's been the major producer and collaborator with Nico, an independent (and faceless!) singer that in universe has internet fame reaching the likes of Pinkpantheress, and he's definely the first member to reach stable international fame, even if it's a tad controversial. And that's something he did despite New Wave Music, and Zhiming has talked about it publicly with no fear, so everyone knows he's truly independent! You go, O.z!

Seungsoo: Seungsoo always has a hard time seeing the bigger picture, and with his career it was no different: he always assumed the Produce Line was an equal triad and even that he was Minwoo's second hand man (which, LMAO. NO!), and he constantly failed to see everyone always respected him the less. But he was and is a group producer, he did have a voice and some control of LOOPiN as a brand, and that automatically puts him above a lot of the members. Seungsoo is also very popular with the public, known as a sweet talker and charming guy, and his music is very sought after for girl groups and female soloists. He was not doing the worst.

Gyujin: Gyujin, the newest loop dude of them all, stands right in the middle. He joined LOOPiN at a crazy time, but he is flexible by nature and he worked himself into the public's good graces very quickly, all on his own; it barely took him 7 months to be iNSYNC's new darling dearest, which did give some brownie points with Seo CEO at the time. Gyujin is also very familiar with the entertainment industry, which barely changed in the years he spend retired from child acting, so he knew from the get go what to watch out for. His contract signing took 3 weeks because he kept going for legal tweaks, something that immediately set off warning sirens inside Seo CEO's head, but at that point, Gyujin was all he had to try to set off the fire of Beomseok's departure - and many other accusations! If he had more time inside the company, Gyujin could definely pull a J.J and find something to use to his advantage against Chanhyuk, because if there's one thing he'll always do, is find an angle.

Hanjae: As soon as Sangwon got out of the picture as LOOPiN's manager in early 2022, Hanjae found himself in a very interesting position, that being his elevation from someone that was literally hidden for two years inside their own group to a hotshot debutee actor - fully backed by Chanhyuk, who was so fucking tired of LOOPiN having collective fame at this point. As we know, Hanjae's crush on Haruki was old and a well known fact inside New Wave, and it ended up causing his professional downfall; Sangwon mismanaged him on porpouse in LOOPiN's early years to not only punish him for his feelings, but also just to torment Haruki. Recently, Seo CEO has committed the big mistake of trying to convince Hanjae to sell his exclusive contract to an acting agency on New Wave's last days, and despite Hanjae double crossing him and immediately telling everyone about the company's hidden fate back in January so they could prepare for it, Chanhyuk still planted a lot of doubt on Hanjae's mind about his Idol future, and that will be at play very soon, thanks to 'Kick It' winning the comeback poll! So stay tunned!;

Taesong: As said on the Minwoo section, Taesong's role as LOOPiN's leader was given to him because Seo CEO needed someone in charge to be under his thumb, and Taesong filled that role okay enough for as long as he could - Minwoo's very harsh criticism of his every move plus everyone's lack of respect of the sentimental way he used to run things eventually got to him mentally. He had many hiatuses in his career, and with each new one came more of a lack of interest from New Wave Music in him as a way of income. If it wasn't for his own volution and need to get better, Taesong wouldn't be the vocal powerhouse he is now - he payed for his own vocal coaches, all non affiliate with the company! By the time he returned from his most serious and longest hiatus in early 2021, making the (not so willing) decision to give out the leader position to Minwoo, all without notifying Seo CEO first, made him public enemy number #2, and it definitely showed on his sudden erasure of schedules.

Haegon: From pretty much day one, Haegon was not taken seriously by anyone inside New Wave Music as an Idol or person, specially in Seo Chanhyuk's eyes: his very unsettling attachment to former member Beomseok paired with his short temper painted him as a kid unwilling to grow up, and when Beomseok left and Haegon put up a whole dissapearing stunt for a week (he had to be fake announced to be put on hiatus!), any slight interest or patience Seo Chanhyuk had for him died. Dare I say, Seo CEO saw Haegon as his biggest signing mistakes, when you take into consideration that "he wasn't even good enough to make the main vocalist stay" - his own words! So Haegon was not encouraged to train beyond his habilities or given any sort of solo schedules. Haegon himself felt the company's disbelief in him in his bones, too, and found it hard to try.

Haruki: Despite being made the public face of LOOPiN from 2021 and onwards, and eventually starting as a model with a lot of company apparent support (big highlight on apparent), Haruki was not the target of favoritism in the slightest; it was the very opposite. None of the investment made by New Wave towards Haruki was genuine, made to be long term or took what he wanted to do as an artist into consideration. It was just Seo CEO buying his silence about his horrible involvement with Sangwon without explicitly saying to Haruki that he was buying his silence. Haruki also never had freedom of movement from the moment he became a Week Boy, and even small decisions he had the impression of being made without Sangwon's involvement over the years always ended up with his involvement despite his demands for the contrary, because Seo CEO did not care or respect him, ever. (Which is in my humble opinion one of his worst crimes: knowing and doing nothing for a share price. Fuck that man, honestly, fuck him.)

And in the lowest of lows, Dylan: In the old blog I had a piece that was fully narrated by Chihoon, and in it we caught a glimpse of the situation with his private contract under New Wave Music and by extension, Blockberry Creative; how his trainee dept was thrice everyone's size because he lost a private defamation lawsuit against both companies back when he was on Boy Of The Week, plus one claiming neglect from Seo CEO directly. Dylan's contract as a whole was barely legal and made by a lawyer that was at the time Seo CEO's wife-to-be (🥴), and the disparity definely showed as LOOPiN went on. Mind you: his first ever solo project (given how he did not promote his debut track 'Monster' or 'Teenager' with LOOPiN Look(a)Like due to an hospitalization), was his rebellion album released in 2022, and that obviously had no company support. Dylan also was on the down low obligated to see a 'company psychiatrist', something that is exclusive to him and was as shady as it fucking sounds - a lot of his growing paranoia as his career goes on it's not only caused by the things he becomes a witness to, but also the bad intentioned changes made in his medication.

...so...Lusty Lil's Wild West Revue, huh?

Yep. It's another Cedar Point ramble lol

One of my favorite things in parks is live performances. I'll admit, I don't often take the time to sit down and watch them when I'm at theme parks (although considering how many times I've gone to Kings Island, maybe I should carve out some time to do this in the future), but whenever I'm...let's say eating food at Festhaus and there happens to be a performance that's starting around the time I'm there, I'll almost always stay and watch. The performers always do an excellent job and their vocals are all around very pleasant to listen to.

When I went to Busch Gardens Tampa, the group I was with decided to actually take the time to take a break from rides and watch the circus-style act going on in the Stanleyville theater, and it was amazing. Those actors put so much life into their performances, and I have to commend them for that.

Now, my favorite show as of now is one I actually haven't seen with my own eyes (but that I've watched many times on YouTube), and that's Lusty Lil's Wild West Revue in the Palace Theater in the Frontier Town area of Cedar Point. First off, the vocals are wonderful. Everyone in that cast is clearly very talented.

Second off, the can-can girls are on a whole other level. Their kicks are together, at the same hight, and overall very impressive. I know for a fact that that number is absolutely exhausting (have you ever tried hopping and kicking for that long), so the fact that they get through the whole thing while still smiling and never faltering in their performance is amazing

Third, and this is semi/-tangential from the second point, they make a Hamilton joke regarding the three can-can girls and I thought that was funny

Fourth, the first song is a joke on how it's all good clean fun despite the fact that the place is (in-universe) owned and the show is led by a character literally named "Lusty Lil" which is funny as hell in my opinion opinion (I wish there was an official studio recording of this song. I love it so much lol)

Fifth, Dan. He's a fun character who deserves the world.

There's other reasons I enjoy this show as much as I do (the choreography in Belly Up, all of the physical humor, Lil's all-around immaculate girlboss energy, etc), but this show is by far one of my favorites in terms of theme park productions

And even better, Lil is a reoccurring Frontier Town character, too! She has her own lore sign in the Steel Vengeance queue, she hosted the 100 year park anniversary show in Frontier Town (the actress who played Lil in that show could SING-), she hosted the fake shoot-out event between Maverick and the Steel Vengeance trio during Steel Vengeance's opening year (which is a tangent for another day [that will likely include a ramble about how I think more parks should invest in walk-around characters], because I absolutely ADORE that show and that event lol), and her name is literally on the building of the Golden Palace Theater.

Lil is such a good and fun character, I love her so much

Track 11 Theory:

This theory is looking at easter eggs to guess that these lyrics are from Track 11 on THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can). This theory revolves around the imagery in Karma Remix music video.

One of the biggest motifs used in the Karma Remix music video is the golden string/invisible string. It connects Taylor and Ice Spice, who are both supposed to be representative of the Moon and Saturn respectively - giving homage to folklore's seven. invisible string is a song that is 100% about Joe and he was originally the karmic boyfriend. Since the eclipse scene in the music video was meant to be an easter egg for this new lyric, it could also mean that it's track 11 too due to both invisible string and Karma being track 11's on their albums.

Other Possibilities:

Many people theorize that this lyric is from the song Clara Bow because of the use of "her" in the lyric. Clara Bow was the it girl of her era, so she would have the capability to make a crowd go wild with just her fingertips. Plus, moonshine was frequently the alcohol of choice during prohibition in the 1920s, which was when Clara Bow was most active in her career.

Some also say that the lyric could be from Florida!!! due Taylor doing a specific action at The Eras Tour during the Lover set. She has a habit of pointing at the crowd in certain sections to make them go wild. So, the lyric could be reference to that and she had multiple shows in Florida. Plus, during The Eras Tour, Taylor stated that she gave up alcohol for the sake of her vocals and recovery from shows. Meaning, she put herself on a prohibition, forbidding herself from drinking any alcohol during this time.

3. second favourite ship: Tough call. I'll go with Avad/Ersa, because they 100% had SOMETHING going on. Starcrossed lovers my beloved.

Serendipity, pt. 1:Lyrics

Today marks the anniversary of the release date for Serendipity, the queen of all BTS songs.

My love for this song is deep and I find it odd how I never talked about it with anyone so I will finally analyze this song and celebrate it with you all.

I always get obsessed with concepts that I find somewhat fictitious but that still manage to occur in real life.

Like atomes crochus, soul mates, or serendipity.

Finding something without searching for it. As if all roads and small moments in your life lead you to that particular finding without you even being remotely aware it's happening until you are facing the finding.

When I found BTS, I looked through their songs and saw Serendipity and thought it was really a serendipitous finding because I had loved this concept for years.

And this song led me to Jimin...it was serendipity.

The lyrics captivated me as I love Namjoon's use of literary references and his poetic writing style.

As an overview, the song is written in Nam's point of view towards his secret love that he found without looking. Destiny and serendipity brought them together.

The lyrics are achingly romantic and show the longing he feels for this person. It is a declaration of love and reassurance:

All of this isn’t just a coincidence

Just just my own feeling

The whole universe is different from yesterday

Just just from your happiness

The opposite of coincidences, in this case, would be destiny. Namjoon found his love because of destiny. He implies that it was a combination of things that brought them together. This is where serendipity comes in. A series of events that led him to his love. And ever since his love is present in his life, he sees the universe in a different way.

"The whole universe..." part reminds me of my favorite poem by Pablo Neruda, poem 14 from 100 Love Poems and a Song of Despair, "You are like nobody else since I love you." Love can make you change your perception of things.

I also want to note the impact that this person is having in Nam's life. He sees the entire universe differently because his love is happy.

It is almost like the destiny of the universe

"I am your flower" is an answer to this poem by Kim Choon-Soo. In the poem, the writer is wanting to be recognized and gain an identity in order to not be forgotten.

By replying in this manner, Nam is telling his love that now that his love has called him, he has the identity of a flower.

"We bloom until we ache" is my favorite part of these lyrics because I see it as a straight reference to my favorite line in Neruda's poem again, "I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees." I find the concept of connecting flowers and blooming to love making beautiful.

And as a result of said love making, by the biblical definition, "I am you, and you are me" is two bodies becoming one.

Now, I'm not sure if Namjoon has read Neruda but he should!

Namjoom tell his lover that he is afraid because destiny is jealous of them and his love is afraid too. He notes that the entire universe has moved for two people and how extraordinary forces will act just for them two simply because of their love for each other. Serendipity occurs because of love.

Now, this is the part that Jimin laughed at, according to the BTS book. Namjoon was calling his love blue mildew or penicillium, which is an antibiotic that treats bacterial infections which was discovered by sheer serendipity. Penicillin is also the first antibiotic discovered. This leads me to believe that Nam used the reference of an accidental discovery to point to serendipity again and to show that something in his relationship was unique and some sort of first for him.

Because this person is their drug, they were saved and their love became an angel to him.

One of the most famous themes of this song is the calico cat, the rare three striped cat that Namjoon identifies as. When looking into calico cats, I found that male calico cats are rare (1 in 3000) and they only happen because of a genetic abnormality and the cat will not have genes that would make it a female, XX, or male, XY, but rather XXY, making the cat sterile.

Which again, takes me back to the theme of a relationship that involves unique and rare. In this case, Namjoon is the unique person with a unique identity to his love.

The last part of the lyrics touch on the concept of destiny again. Their love had been decided before anything began. Namjoon keeps asking his love to allow him to love them. Even if things are perfect, they shouldn't be afraid.

And the theme of becoming one shows up repeatedly in the end.

While looking for information about the song, I saw a few people saying that the lyrics reference The Little Prince. I've read this book quite a few times but didn't really see a connection to the lyrics. It connects to the poem, Flower, that Namjoon referenced but not to Serendipity directly or, at least, I didn’t see the connection.

Overall, the lyrics speak of a relationship that is unique and rare, one of a kind. The relationship came to be because it was destined that Namjoon and his love would find each other through a series events and not because they looked for the relationship themselves.

The use of flowers in this poem is done to give Namjoon and his person an identity and in order to reference love making.

Although Namjoon expressed fear because their love is so perfect, he also encourages the other person to not be afraid and allow themselves to be loved over and over again.

I absolutely love these lyrics as they are incredibly romantic and sweet to me. They show of a love that is pure, innocent, rare, and unique.

ahhhh every Cat Empire show is crazy. they are so fucking talented and you can tell they just love music. they do jam sessions on stage and the hype and positivity is so infectious. Felix does this thing that i love where he sticks the mic stand into the crowd and gets us singing. it's always such a fun time. and the fans, dude! we are all just music lovers and since i always go to shows alone, i love talking with them. they are the most down to earth, chill human beings.

and this show in particular, i got invited backstage to jam with the band 😭💖 we ate pizza and drank beer and it was the coolest experience of my life. i wish they toured N America more lmao

3: Worst concert you’ve ever been to

im very fortunate that most of my shows have been at least worth the money. but i can think of two right off the bat that i wasn't satisfied with. story time(s)!

Lindsey Stirling at the MET in Philly.

so, ive seen Lindsey Stirling three times. for those who don't know her, she's a violinist, but very poppy with dubstep mixed in. her shows focus very heavy on dance and theatrics. the first time was at a festival when she was suuuuper brand new (2015) and the crowd was alive. it was so fun. and it makes sense, her music is the type to dance to!

second time i saw her was another standing crowd situation in Manhattan circa 2016. when i say the crowd was dead, oh my god it was lifeless. i was embarrassed. New York City, what the hell?

then i saw her at the MET in 2022, which is a seated venue. and like, holy hell... everyone remained seated, even when Lindsey told the crowd to get up and dance multiple times. at one point i had put my phone up to record a certain part of the show and the girl sitting behind me immediately tapped me on the shoulder and told me to put my phone down. like, okay i get recording the show is annoying, but im not that guy. i just wanted to record a 10 second sequence she was doing but fine. i barely took my phone out during that performance.

but anyway, the stillness. listen, ive been to seated venues before (rock shows) and no one ever remains seated through the entire show. what the fuck is that? i was dancing in my seat while everyone around me looked at me like i was crazy. omg i just wanted to jam! and then my favorite song came up, Roundtable Rival (listen to this song and tell me how im not supposed to dance to this) and fuck it, i stood up and started to shake it.

to wrap up this long story, the girls behind me were so disgusted by my actions they full on left. there was only one other person in the floor seats that i could see who was also standing and dancing. and during the last song, Lindsey actually made everyone stand up and groove to the song (but even standing, these people were fucking dead).

i took my frustrations to reddit, asking if i was in the wrong, and got absolutely dog-piled with hate. even though Lindsey clearly said at least twice during the show to stand up. i haven't listened to her since. she's a talented musician, but the fans absolutely killed it for me.

Fall Out Boy at the Key Bank Center, Buffalo

this is gonna be a short one. this was in 2017-early 2018 i think. it was for their Mania tour. I had seen them the year before in Brooklyn and the show they put on was super fun, they really made use of the stage (this was an arena tour) and for that show, i had purchased nose-bleed seats. and for this one in Buffalo, i purchased floor tickets (it was significanly cheaper in Buffalo).

but they didn't utilize the stage at. all in Buffalo. all the theatrics i had seen in Brooklyn didn't exist here. the tracklist was pretty much the same, the graphics and pyro the same. but just a weak performance with no energy. i was so bored.

14: Moshpit, barricade, back, or rafters

i have sampled all these options, and 100% always prefer the barricade. i love being up close to the action and (usually) that up close is where the party is happening. (though i could go on a rant about how concert goers don't jump/dance at shows anymore, even some rock shows ive been to have just been. muted. i still dance my face off and make it a problem for the people around me).

tried one moshpit in my experience and the adrenaline is like nothing else. but i'd probably steer clear of it now. gotta protect my weary bones in my older age haha

19: Farthest traveled for concert/festival

before my trip in June, it was 400 miles (within the states). but after my last show, its now 560 miles (900 km)!

ive definitely thought about going to festivals overseas, especially since two of my favorite bands are English and Australian... but as much as i love traveling, i find it annoying to plan a trip around a concert so. traveling further than a few hundred miles just for a show is not something i typically do.
