I have had so many arguments with able-bodied people about how yes, some people can still move your legs and be in a wheelchair. It is possible for people who are able to stand and cross their legs to be in a wheelchair. The number of people who insist you can’t *really* be disabled because you can cross your legs or move them is exhausting. I am 100% Ruth did this very, very intentionally as a fuck-you to all of those people.

Doctor Who, one of the biggest TV shows in the country, just showed an ambulatory wheelchair user getting out of her wheelchair to transfer to a desk chair. They showed a disabled person getting up out of her wheelchair. On national television.

AND THEY EVEN BUILT IT INTO THE SCRIPT!!!

They don't just mention it in passing, they write it into a tirade of hate which is explicitly written to be extreme, unfair, and absolutely wrong.

This is huge.

if i had one nickel for every time the word “lesbian” was spoken aloud on doctor who, i’d have two consecutive nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s incredible that it happened twice in a row and neither example was during that whole series with an openly lesbian companion

okay this made me very happy.

I kind of love that the reason 14 took 10's face was not some huge conspiracy, not something the Master or the Toy Maker or anyone else did to him. It's literally just because he was not okay, he knew he was not okay, and he needed to find Donna, his best mate, the one person in the universe he would let take care of him.
