also i realize i'm saying all these noble and beautiful things about the channel from the purest depths of my heart. but actually i'm also just doing this because i fucking love the witcher books and it pisses me off that people don't know about them that much in english and i can only go for so long (seven years) with people not knowing that there are books. or that the witcher is from the 90s. or polish.

STORY TIME

this would have been in 2013, when This Is Us was out in theaters. I used to work the customer service desk at a niche, arthouse movie theater (which basically meant I had fuckall to do for 6-8 hours a day) but for some reason, we got the 1D movie, which meant we ALSO got the lifesize promotional 1D standee. (I wish I could find a better picture, but it was this one exactly.)

ANYWAY. we had a problem bc teenage girls kept RIPPING THE HEADS OFF their fave and stealing it. legit, I think we had to replace the entire thing like 3 times.

to combat this problem, the owner of the theater decided to post a security guard right next to the standee (conveniently located 3 feet away from where I sat at the customer service; i stared at it a lot) during our busy hours, so as to deter any further decapitation.

I was chatting with the security guard one night (SUPER friendly lady, maybe in her early 40s) and I mentioned that I was a huge fan of 1D

THATS WHEN SHE TELLS ME that she'd worked security FOR one direction the last time they were in my city, like at their hotel. she said she spent like 5 hours sitting in a chair right outside the door of their hotel room, and these are the facts she relayed to me:

-they spent a lot of time at the open window, waving at fans down on the street

-they were VERY loud and rambunctious, like the entire time

-she couldn't remember which one, but one of the boys in particular had been very friendly and always addressed her by name

-at least one of them (I think we know who) was nude QUITE OFTEN and was NOT ashamed of it

-the one who was nude, quote, "had nothing to be ashamed of 👀"

tl;dr: I worked at a movie theater during a pivotal time in cinematic history and learned some fun inside facts from a chatty middle-aged security guard
