2024 Writing Round-Up

It's the last SSS/WW for the year and I have nothing to share, since I finished Ever After and am not itching to start something new (and I'm back on my Persona bullshit). Luckily, @that-disabled-princess tagged me in this writing round-up, so I am doing that instead. Please enjoy my bespoke banner.

I posted 10 works on AO3, with three being WIPs. I have published 85,165 words in 2024. Oh boy, let's get into it under the cut

I did actually publish stuff in January and February, but those were multichaptered things, and I am putting the works in the months I finished them/last updated them.

So, with that said, let's start in March!

February Friday Event 2024 (Radio Silence, gen, WIP)

I have written 2 of the 4 prompts for the February Friday event. I started the other two, but I just.... haven't finished them. I should. I liked what I have written for it. Completing this fic wasn't a priority and it shows. Oof.

吃了吗? (Glee, Tike, 1.564 words)

Part of the series that explores the Asianness in Glee, and yes, it was me projecting on Tina again. Tina feels disconnected from her Korean heritage due to her adoption. Oop. I really, really liked this one and I think it's one of the best titles of the year. Yes, the title is Chinese, not Korean, since it mostly takes place in a Chinese restaurant. Mutual, 你吃饭了吗？

APRIL ❤️

All of me loves all of you (Class, Charlie/Matteusz, 2.598 words)

A story idea that I have had for years and I'm glad I finally wrote it down. Charlie is an alien, gasp! And he only looks human. In this fic, he shows Matteusz his alien self and reflects on his human disguise. I'm really, really happy with this one and it's one of the reasons that my love for Class reawakened this year.

Just Some Guy (Carry On, Snowbaz + Matt/Leslie, 15.664 words)

HONESTLY ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I HAVE EVER WRITTEN, if I may so myself. It's Snowbaz's 7.25's canon years at Watford from the perspective of someone who doesn't give a shit about them. I fucking love this fic. I fucking love MCD (Matt Christopher Davis) and I loved writing how disinterested he is in the whole Chosen One shenanigans. It makes for a fun fic, but it also makes sense if you look at the state of the world. So many people keep living ordinary lives while weird shit happens, and MCD is just ordinary. He's just some guy.

Find My Way (Legally Blonde, gen, 1.358 words)

I was on a Christian Borle binge during the summer, so I rewatched the musical Legally Blonde and this fic is a missing scene. Vivian realises what is happening and decides to break up with Warner and back-up Elle. I think it's neat.

OCTOBER 😺

What's in the name? (Glee, multi, WIP)

The first multichaptered installment of my Asianness in Glee series and it's all about names. It's partially me trying to make sense of some of Glee's choices, and me lifting from my life again. I have published Wes and Yu-Jin's and Tina's chapters. The one for Blaine is not written and I have started the one with Mike and Tina. I'm struggling with the latter, especially since I don't really understand Mike's circumstances either.

Ljubili se (Glee, Klaine, WIP)

Ah, yes, the fic that I love but also regret. I've started it for the 2023 Klaine December Challenge. I am just stuck on it, even though I have cool stuff written for it. I just don't know what to do with this one, to be honest. I want to finish it, but I have also realised that I don't like writing it anymore because I am so stuck on it. I am waiting for the inspiration to strike and for my passion to be re-ignited, because do I regret it? I also like writing it when I am writing it. And I am excited to share what I have for later chapters. There's a lil moment where Cooper tries to flirt with Denise and Quinn and Blaine are standing there like🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️. I will see where this fic will take me, I guess.

DECEMBER 🕯️

All's fair in love and war (Class, Charlie/Matteusz + Matteusz & Quill, 16.646 words)

The story that deserves better, since it has, like, 9 hits, but hey, that is what happens when you write for a small fandom. Which is a shame, cause this is also one of the best things I have written this year and I also enjoyed it a lot. I loved delving into the morality of the show Class through Matteusz, who is a middle man in-between two people with extreme conflicting opinions. And he loves both of them. Please watch Class, and read my fic after that!

Ever After (Glee, Klaine, 30.624 words)

The fic for the 2024 Klaine December Fanworks Challenge, which I did finish! Blaine is living in the kingdom of Daltonia, and Kurt is stranded in this place, so Blaine tries to help him get home.... to another world. I had a lot of fun, especially since I stopped Ljubili se for it, and it reminded how much I love writing Klaine. I also liked my world building here. I just think it is neat. I really enjoyed this one. I think I left some things open, since I didn't have room for more, but December was Ever After thought almost 24/7.

Klaine Valentine's Challenge 2025

We have organized a Klaine Fanfiction Challenge for Valentine's Day for 9 straight years. You can find all the past entries HERE. We have been debating whether to do one more this year. Is there still interest? Both for readers and enough writers that will make our work worth it? 1. how many works do you have on ao3? 306

2. what’s your total ao3 word count? 2,858,132. I should throw myself a party when I cross 3 million because that's like 20 novels.

3. what fandoms do you write for? Many over the years but atm only 911 Lone Star

4. do you respond to comments? why or why not? Yes! Sometimes very late! Sometimes not as thoroughly as they deserve! But people take time to leave comments and I think it's good manners to respond even if just to say thank you

5. have you ever had a fic stolen? Oh yeah lol. A few just outright copy/pasted with a find + replace done to change the names to whatever other ship (one time it was Klaine from Glee I think.) And once someone posted a fic to a fandom bigbang that had an entire scene blatantly ripped off from a fic I'd published months earlier in that same fandom. It wasn't copied word for word but it was so blatantly just taken from my fic and reworded somewhat that multiple people noticed and told me about it. The organizers of the challenge refused to do anything because the person refused to admit to the plagiarism so that fic is still up 🙃

6. have you ever co-written a fic before? yes several! with friends in multiple fandoms. It's so fun, I would do it again in a heartbeat

7. what’s your all-time favourite ship? Nope. Will not.

8. what are your writing strengths? Dialogue, digging into complicated emotions.

1: black or white gcv animation <3 it's not what i would call my best drawing (bc it's, yknow, not just one drawing) but it is what i would call the product of a very obsessive thought and some frantic art sessions. objectively it's the coolest thing i've done this year so it deserves the top spot. i'm proud of it i hope to glanimate more next year. also this isn't art but it's a relevant post that i still stand by months later

About the pairing tournament I had the bad idea to see the reposts and read the tags. and it was awful. I still don't understand why if you like a pairing you need to automatically bash the other. And no, the klainers actually were not the ones doing the bashing. It's been 10 years for God's sake. *shakes head*

When this was all over, I was going to do a reflection post about it, might as well use this ask.

The thing about the poll, that I've exerted since the beginning, is that it's not that one thing is better than the other -- it's that one thing ultimately has more people voting for it than the other. It's a popularity contest. There was a day that Klaine would have dominated so hard that it would never have been a contest, but those days are gone.

The Klaine army is, though, still around. We're just old and tired and polls like this don't really matter anymore. We've won a ton of them. I think the Brittana fans are we were ten years ago when we gobbled every poll up.

Anyway... some thoughts.

Yes, unfortunately, I read ever single note on the blog. Not one single Klainer was mean. Not one. Be proud of that.

I do think 90% of the Brittana fans were fine -- some of them said nice things about Klaine. Some of them were here just for the fun of competition (looking at brittanapolls). Most of them did just want their team to win.

Also... no one cared about this tournament until the very end. Much like the song tournament (which was not me) people showed up who didn't even partake in 99% of the other polls. Which... fine. But the point of the tournament was just fun, and I think a majority of the tournament was fun. People didn't get nasty until the very end, which was a shame.

Out of the people who were asshats.... I noticed a trend. Most of them were -- Not Glee blogs -- or in that I could not find Glee content on their blogs. Which makes me wonder if they even like the show -- or they just prefer w/w pairings.

And, there were three-ish things I kept seeing in the notes --

A) How dare Klaine crash the Brittana wedding which, omg, *pinches nose* Clearly what is missed is the fact that the writers wanted to appease everyone while making lengthy speeches about gay rights. I don't think anyone was fully happy with that, and I know a lot of us Klainers would have liked something different, too -- but to have that be a reason to be mean? That is bonkers to me.

B) Blaine and the cheating came up again, which I find hilariously hypocritical. Santana admits that she cheated all the time. Brittany cheated on Artie without much thought. Neither of them seem to have any remorse about it. So... that point doesn't hold water at all.

C) The one I think really got under all of our skin - that somehow voting for Klaine meant misogyny or hating women. And I just can't with this... voting in a meaningless poll has nothing to do with supporting women. If you really want to support women -- you can, volunteer somewhere that helps women in need, vote for abortion and transwomen's rights, or.... respect the fact that some women connect to different fictional characters than you. My god.

So, anyway... it's a shame these people live in their hate more than their love. You do have to shake your head on that. Nothing they say, though, should make you feel bad or less about what you love. We all do connect to different fictional characters for different reasons.

10: Churro kiss set. I do think this is a nice set and I really like the colouring, but tbh it's only on the list because I didn't make enough gifs this year and I really don't like the other two sets I made that actually have extra stuff added in lmao

9: ATOG characters set. I think this is a really fun set! I had a lot of fun with the overlays and different fonts and trying to figure out which scenes would work best to represent the characters as they are in the fic. And something about a cutout in the middle of blocky text with cursive text filling it in??? Idk man it just hits for me personally

8: Candles set. Listen Blaine might have been a little off his rocker for choosing this song but the lyrics really work for them later on??? You can stay mad about it if you want but I'm into it. I think this is a fun set. There are probably some things I'd change if I were to do it over, but I still enjoy it as is.

7: Klaine through the seasons set for Klaine Secret Santa. It's not too complicated technically speaking, but I think the colouring came out super nice and vibrant and the concept is just fun and I love a nice fade and perfect loop you know?

6: Message in a Bottle Brittana set for glifswap. I'm super happy with how the colouring turned out in this one because when I started it was a challenge, mainly with how red the last gif was but I think I made it work! The green was also a fun challenge for me, but overall I'm very happy with how this set turned out.

5: Guilty as Sin Kurtbastian set. There's something to be said for some nice simple text slapped on a crunchy old looking set you know?? This one is like. Understated but it hits right I think. If that makes sense. And it's very me with the desaturated colours lmao (I am working on that in general but in this set it works)

4: I Can Fix Him No Really I Can Kurtbastian set. I went in a pretty different direction with this set vs any other set I've ever made and I think the effect ended up looking super cool! Very happy with this set.

3: Prom Queen set! I love the concept and I just think they came out so crisp and pretty.

2: Dark Blue Kurt set. This is like... the epitome of backslasdelta gifs. Immaculate vibes. It pains me to not put it in first place tbh because I do think it's gorgeous and so me, but it's only missing out because there are a couple minor flaws I can pick out and it doesn't really have any fancy effects like the first place entry has.

1: Yet again a gifset I made for you tops the list lmao it's gotta be the Brittana Best of Me set in first place. Like it just turned out gorgeous and is technically the best set I've done this year. I think I just am more dedicated to making things perfect when I'm making things for you with your input, whereas when I'm making them on my own I'm lazy sometimes sldkjfg

Kurt and Blaine could easily not have met on a staircase in high school. They could have met a few years later in college instead.

This story is AU from within 2x06 ("Never Been Kissed"), with many of the broad strokes of canon remaining except where I thought they would be different because of the AU or other factors. It takes place in Blaine's first year of college, starting about a year from now. There are some spoilers through 3x22 (“Goodbye”).

He applies for an internship at Vogue, and Isabelle sees in him the perfect fresh face to liven up the magazine, and convinces him to try out as a model. Kurt meets Blaine, and in spite of their 10-year age difference, sparks fly. Can they overcome misunderstandings and sabotage to find their happily-ever-after? Klaine model AU.

1. Favourite season 1 episode: Laryngitis (1x18) I was torn between this episode and Theatricality. But I decided to go with the episode that gave us Rose's Turn.

2. Favourite season 2 episode: Born This Way (2x18) The hardest decision for me, as there were so many great songs and very coherent storylines this season. Especially the narrative around Kurt is very good. I was thinking of either Prom Queen because of the beautiful story around Kurt and Blaine. But I decided to go with Born This Way because I love the music here, 4 out of 5 songs are in my Glee playlist. Somewhere Only We Know is definitely in my top 5 Glee songs, Born This Way is iconic, and As If We Never Said Goodbye just shows how good Chris/Kurt can sing.

3. Favourite season 3 episode: The First Time (3x05) It's rather difficult for me to decide here, because I found the season weaker, especially after season two. There is again a lot of good music, but the story has only scattered highlights for me, the characters don't do much and some story strands are not consistent. I like the music in Michael and Dance with Somebody but the story is only ok. I like the (sad) story of Karofsky in On My Way, but the episode is too packed for me. I chose The First Time because of the Klaine story and the good West Side Story music.

4. Favourite season 4 episode: The Break-Up (4x04) Please don't hate me, but I love a good cry. And maybe the authors could have come up with something other than cheating (I feel like that's the only thing the authors know to end any relationship?!) But I thought the whole situation was so realistic and well written. They are just 17 or 18 year old boys in their first relationship. Misunderstandings and mistakes are just part of it. I like that they have time to develop independently, and it's even nicer when they get back together. I also love the music in this episode.

5. Favourite season 5 episode: New New York (5x15). I love the New York story; I love domestic Klaine; I love the friendship between Blam and Kelliot; I love the glitter rock vampire scene; I love that Klaine is arguing, communicating, and making adult decisions. I love many of the songs.

6. Favourite season 6 episode: Dreams Come True (6x13) I thought it was a great ending for Glee, especially in combination with the 2009 episode. Is it realistic that all Glee Club members are super successful and famous? Who cares! I loved that the main characters all had a great future written for them. And I love that Klaine become parents in canon.

7. Episode that makes me cry: The Quarterback (5x03) and The Break-Up (4x04).

8. Episode that makes me laugh: Puppet Master (5x07) I love puppet master Blaine!

9. Favourite tribute episode: Michael (3x11) This is difficult, the tributes are always very good. I'll take Michael, but more for the music.

10. Favourite Christmas episode: In A Very Glee Christmas (2x10), I LOVE Baby It's Cold Outside. But for the story, I like Glee, Actually (4x10) better.

11. Episode with the best songs: I can hardly decide, there are so many good ones. The first episode that comes to my mind where I like every song is Duets (2x04).

12. Favourite sectionals episode: Hold on to Sixteen (3x08) The Unitards' number is great; the Troubletones' singing is great (don't hate me, but the costumes and choreography aren't for me); I love the New Directions' setlist, everyone gets a chance to shine and the songs form a good unit.

13. Favourite regionals episode: I just realized that I find the regionals setlist all just ok. I'll take Journey to Regionals (1x22) because of Bohemian Rhapsody.

14. Favourite nationals episode: City of Angels (5x11) I have to say that I liked the New Directions setlist here better than in season 3. Even though Paradise by the Dashboard Light is of course great, I never liked the focus on one soloist or couple in competitions. I just like it when everyone sings together. And they were so much better than Throat Explosion.

15. Episode most people like but I don’t: I can just agree with @fallevs. Blame It on the Alcohol (2x14) Although I think the party is generally fun, I hate Rachel's selfishness. There is ONE other gay teenager who her gay best friend likes and she is trying to start a relationship with him. Because he can sing. Even though there are 99% other straight boys at her school and she knows that Kurt likes Blaine. The same goes for the Kurt is biphobic thing. He's a boy in love who is hurt by his crush, and the writers didn't write that argument well.

16. Episode most people dislike but I like: Again Puppet Master (5x07) I just love puppet master Blaine. He is so funny.
