Welcome to the 10th annual Klaine Valentine’s Challenge! We can't believe it's been 10 years. This will most likely be the last Valentine's Challenge we do. We really, really hope writers will come out of the woodwork and write for our fandom one more time. That would be lovely. Please please consider sharing the love with fandom, ten years after our show ended.

The library will post a song prompt, complete with lyrics and video (if available), at midnight EST starting on February 1 and every single day through February 14th.

The challenge is to inspire new Klaine fanfiction, Klaine fan art, Klaine gif sets, or Klaine fan videos. All with the theme of LOVE. 💗

You're welcome to do whatever your muse tells you. Either write a 14 chapter story (we'd prefer 14 chapter stories), or 14 separate one shots, or you can create art/gif sets/videos. However you interpret the song is up to you. Perhaps the title moves you, the lyrics, just one line in the lyrics - it’s totally up to you. The more words, the better!

I try to . . but to be honest Ive gotten a bit overwhelmed with my inbox right now, so Ive stopped at the moment. I do read every one and love that people take the time out to write anything at all. One day I'll finally catch up and answer everything. *sigh*

6. Angstiest Ending?

Most of my stuff usually ends up happy at the end . . . with a lot of angst in the middle. So not sure if you'd qualify this as angsty but its certainly not a happy ending. . . Come Into My Parlor (Glee/klaine)

7. Fic with the Happiest Ending?

Like mentioned before i think most of my fics have happy endings . . .so I'll pick this one - because it is a pretty wholesome feel-good ending: Falling for You (Glee/Klaine)

8. Do you get hate?

No. I've gotten some very passionate comments, mostly about what characters are doing in certain stories, but nothing that I'd take as a personal attack against me or my writing in general.

9. Do you write smut?

I do but its a constant struggle because it doesn’t come easy for me. Most of the time it slows me down writing because i agonize over those parts so much!

10. Do you write crossovers?

I love Klaine and FirstPrince equally. Those boys make me so happy.

15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I intend to finish everything . . .eventually - the problem with me is WHEN I'll get to do that! An ongoing list of my WIP can be found here.

16. Writing strengths?

Dialogue, I guess . . humor . . angst? . . Maybe I should ask any readers about this. What do you all think I do well?😂

17. Writing Weaknesses?

Smut . . . its so challenging. And just finding time to write in general.

18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue? 

I don't mind it. . . As a reader, I like the extra depth it brings to a charater. As long as there's a translation for me to read. I enjoy it. As a writer, it can be a bit nerve wracking because I think and write in English and then try to translate it over, which sometimes doesn't always work. I am lucky bc one of my betas speaks Spanish so I often bounce ideas off of her when I need that for characters. But for a recent ongoing WIP, I decided (because I'm insane) to include A LOT of French in my dialogue. I had used an online translator, but thankfully one of my readers jumped in to offer to help with corrections and any French translations going forward!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Officially - like posted stuff, would be Glee/Klaine . Though I've been making up fandom AUs/ bits of stories in my head for years before I knew what fanfiction was! i just never shared it with anyone! 😂

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?

I love all of my fics! It's hard to say which is my all time favorite . . but I will say that ( though it's almost finished - 1 more chapter left) If I Can Make Your Heart My Home (Glee/Klaine) will always hold a special place in my heart . . its been a true joy writing it and seeing how others have reacted to it. It's also my longest piece to date - a little over the length of a novel (127,206 words) - and has taken me a LONG time to write . . ( its been a year and 10 months) The whole writing process for this has been very challenging and very fulfilling to do. I have very much fallen in love with the AU and will be happy to revisit it after the fic is complete.

2024 Writing Round-Up

It's the last SSS/WW for the year and I have nothing to share, since I finished Ever After and am not itching to start something new (and I'm back on my Persona bullshit). Luckily, @that-disabled-princess tagged me in this writing round-up, so I am doing that instead. Please enjoy my bespoke banner.

I posted 10 works on AO3, with three being WIPs. I have published 85,165 words in 2024. Oh boy, let's get into it under the cut

I did actually publish stuff in January and February, but those were multichaptered things, and I am putting the works in the months I finished them/last updated them.

So, with that said, let's start in March!

MARCH 🪻

February Friday Event 2024 (Radio Silence, gen, WIP)

I have written 2 of the 4 prompts for the February Friday event. I started the other two, but I just.... haven't finished them. I should. I liked what I have written for it. Completing this fic wasn't a priority and it shows. Oof.

吃了吗? (Glee, Tike, 1.564 words)

Part of the series that explores the Asianness in Glee, and yes, it was me projecting on Tina again. Tina feels disconnected from her Korean heritage due to her adoption. Oop. I really, really liked this one and I think it's one of the best titles of the year. Yes, the title is Chinese, not Korean, since it mostly takes place in a Chinese restaurant. Mutual, 你吃饭了吗？

APRIL ❤️

All of me loves all of you (Class, Charlie/Matteusz, 2.598 words)

A story idea that I have had for years and I'm glad I finally wrote it down. Charlie is an alien, gasp! And he only looks human. In this fic, he shows Matteusz his alien self and reflects on his human disguise. I'm really, really happy with this one and it's one of the reasons that my love for Class reawakened this year.

MAY 🌻

Just Some Guy (Carry On, Snowbaz + Matt/Leslie, 15.664 words)

HONESTLY ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I HAVE EVER WRITTEN, if I may so myself. It's Snowbaz's 7.25's canon years at Watford from the perspective of someone who doesn't give a shit about them. I fucking love this fic. I fucking love MCD (Matt Christopher Davis) and I loved writing how disinterested he is in the whole Chosen One shenanigans. It makes for a fun fic, but it also makes sense if you look at the state of the world. So many people keep living ordinary lives while weird shit happens, and MCD is just ordinary. He's just some guy.

JULY 🌼

Find My Way (Legally Blonde, gen, 1.358 words)

I was on a Christian Borle binge during the summer, so I rewatched the musical Legally Blonde and this fic is a missing scene. Vivian realises what is happening and decides to break up with Warner and back-up Elle. I think it's neat.

OCTOBER 😺

What's in the name? (Glee, multi, WIP)

The first multichaptered installment of my Asianness in Glee series and it's all about names. It's partially me trying to make sense of some of Glee's choices, and me lifting from my life again. I have published Wes and Yu-Jin's and Tina's chapters. The one for Blaine is not written and I have started the one with Mike and Tina. I'm struggling with the latter, especially since I don't really understand Mike's circumstances either.

Ljubili se (Glee, Klaine, WIP)

Ah, yes, the fic that I love but also regret. I've started it for the 2023 Klaine December Challenge. I am just stuck on it, even though I have cool stuff written for it. I just don't know what to do with this one, to be honest. I want to finish it, but I have also realised that I don't like writing it anymore because I am so stuck on it. I am waiting for the inspiration to strike and for my passion to be re-ignited, because do I regret it? I also like writing it when I am writing it. And I am excited to share what I have for later chapters. There's a lil moment where Cooper tries to flirt with Denise and Quinn and Blaine are standing there like🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️. I will see where this fic will take me, I guess.

An inside joke that is a sequel to an inside joke! BOOP! I peaked here.

DECEMBER 🕯️

All's fair in love and war (Class, Charlie/Matteusz + Matteusz & Quill, 16.646 words)

The story that deserves better, since it has, like, 9 hits, but hey, that is what happens when you write for a small fandom. Which is a shame, cause this is also one of the best things I have written this year and I also enjoyed it a lot. I loved delving into the morality of the show Class through Matteusz, who is a middle man in-between two people with extreme conflicting opinions. And he loves both of them. Please watch Class, and read my fic after that!

Ever After (Glee, Klaine, 30.624 words)

The fic for the 2024 Klaine December Fanworks Challenge, which I did finish! Blaine is living in the kingdom of Daltonia, and Kurt is stranded in this place, so Blaine tries to help him get home.... to another world. I had a lot of fun, especially since I stopped Ljubili se for it, and it reminded how much I love writing Klaine. I also liked my world building here. I just think it is neat. I really enjoyed this one. I think I left some things open, since I didn't have room for more, but December was Ever After thought almost 24/7.

I don't start a story I don't intend to finish. I do have several ideas in my list of things to write that I'm not sure I'll ever get to, but hey... who knows.

Angst is my absolutely favorite thing to write. I'm pretty sure you guys have already figured that out.

17. Writing Weaknesses?

I guess the smut? I also struggle a lot writing beginnings - it seems like so much depends on them.

18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue? 

I'm fine with it, and I've used it a few times, as long as it doesn't end up being weird to read - like if it's there too often or there are things translated that have no need to be.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Uff. It's hard to remember. I'm pretty sure I wrote fanfiction about my favorite singers when I was a little kid.

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?

At the moment? Probably Undiscovered. I just enjoyed it so much. Maybe Solid Gold or The Awakening. It changes depending on my mood.

Summary: Fourteen scenes from the lives of Blaine Anderson, grad student and avid birder, and Kurt Hummel, clothing designer and Vogue writer, from before their first meeting during the COVID lockdowns of spring of 2020 through falling in love. Written for the Klaine Valentine’s Challenge 2025.

Chapter 10: Magic

With people being discouraged from taking public transportation except for work, Blaine hadn't had a chance to go to some of his favorite spring birding spots.

“I wish I could show you the salt marshes,” he told Kurt one day when they were walking through the neighborhood toward the nearby cemetery so that Kurt could practice using his “new” binoculars somewhere people wouldn't accuse him of looking in their windows (which, to be fair, he did do sometimes; he had given Blaine a very detailed description of the wallpaper in the living room of Mrs. Finkelstein from across the street—Blaine couldn't fault Kurt for looking, the design sounded so fascinating—as well as an adorable rundown of mispronounced book titles from the shelves of the Nordic literature professor who lived above her). “They attract such an incredible variety of birds. You could double your life list in an afternoon, I bet.”

“Considering that my life list is only around five birds right now, I expect to be doubling it today at the cemetery.”

“You've seen more than five different species since we met.”

“Yes, but I only started keeping track on eBird yesterday.”

Blaine laughed. “Good thing I've kept lists of all our neighborhood sightings. I'll share them with you when I get home and you can add them to your account.”

“So where are these mysterious salt marshes, anyway? They sound like something you’d find in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.”

“Yes, probably. But you can also find them here in New York City along the shore. There's an amazing one a few miles from here. It's got great birding even outside of the migration, because of all the different habitats there—water and reeds and a bit of coastal forest. But I haven't been able to get there this year for obvious reasons.”

“You don't have a bike?” Kurt asked.

“No. I never needed one. Transit got me everywhere I needed to go that I couldn't walk to.”

“Rachel and I both have bikes. I'm sure she'd let you borrow hers. And if she doesn't, I'll just steal it from her on a temporary basis.”

Blaine chuckled again. He loved the way Kurt made him laugh. He had almost forgotten how to do it in those first few weeks of lockdown. But now, whenever he was with Kurt, he found himself laughing all the time—because Kurt said something funny, or because everything they did together felt new and exciting, or because Blaine had so many joyful feelings that they bubbled out his nose in tiny puffs of air.

“I'd love that,” Blaine said. “And I’d be happy to give it a thorough dousing with bleach before I give it back to her.”

“You are such the consummate gentleman, Blaine Anderson,” Kurt said.

Blaine giggled.

There was promise in the air as they entered the cemetery. They were the only ones there but the birds, singing and chattering and calling their morning communications. Blaine could pick out cardinals and song sparrows amid the robins and housefinches. He pointed his binoculars through the gravestones toward a forsythia bush, trying to track down a chipping sparrow whose call he’d just heard.

“A yellow-rumped warbler!” Kurt gasped.

“Where!?”

Kurt was standing five paces away, his binoculars in front of his face and trained in Blaine’s direction. Blaine turned around to follow Kurt’s line of sight. “In that juniper?”

“No, no,” Kurt said. “It's right where you're standing. Look down.”

Blaine looked passed the hem of his yellow chinos toward his feet. He twisted to look behind his feet. He looked to his left, then to his right. “I don't see it.”

“Too bad. I'm getting a great view.”

Blaine looked over his shoulder again. He tried again to link the angle of the binoculars with some object.

“I never knew their rumps could be so shapely,” Kurt said, his voice unusually flirtatious for describing a bird.

Oh.

Heat rose to Blaine's face. Delight bubbled out of him yet again in the form of laughter.

Kurt was looking at Blaine’s ass—and enjoying the view.

“So I’m the yellow-rumped warbler, am I?” Blaine asked.

Kurt grinned. “The finest I've ever seen.”

"No. Yes? Oh God, Kurt, when did you do this?"

"I definitely did NOT do this! Everything was in place when I left. Tell me you didn't hit your head."

"No, this!" And he started reading: "You always make me happy, To the sweetest man in the world, You're the best husband, I'm so lucky to have you, Happy anniversary, I love you forever, ..."

"Oh... You found it!"

"Looks like I did."

"Well... um... it was a long time project... Like really-really long."

"I can imagine! It must have taken days. Or a week or two! When did you work on this? How did I not notice?"

"I started a while ago. About 4 years or so..."

Blaine's eyes widen so dramatically that Kurt can't help but laugh.

"I didn't just do it yesterday, honey. You got them like that."

"No way."

"I'm telling you."

"But you give me a bow tie every month."

"I know I do. And each one has a little message inscribed on it. I'm not saying it was always easy, but... you like it, don't you?" - Kurt asks hopefully.

"Of course! I love it, this is the sweetest thing ever, Kurt. I love you so much!"

"Then it was worth it. I love you too!"

"Why didn't you tell me about this years ago?"

"It was a secret project, obviously... I was hoping you'd notice one day, but it was more of a surprise. I just wanted to... I wanted to be with you somehow, even when I wasn't."

"Oh, Kurt..."

"You know me," Kurt said with a shrug, "deep down, I've always been just a silly romantic..."

5. Do you respond to comments? I try to so hard! But I wrote "live" for two years and got behind on a few stories and as much as I want to I'm not sure I'll ever catch up on those. But I try to keep up with current stories as I go now!

6. Angstiest Ending? Oh gosh. I don't do angsty endings. I'm all about angst throughout the story, except when it's gratuitous. But I always promise klainebows at the end. 💙💛🌈

7. Fic with the Happiest Ending? Sonder. I really poured my heart and soul into that fic, and I think the ending had the effect I wanted.

8. Do you get hate? Not exactly. For the most part, everyone is just so lovely and I appreciate the community aspect of fanfic!

9. Do you write smut? Yes, I do! 🔥 I actually enjoy writing smut, because specifically with Klaine, I feel like it's one of the ways their souls converse with each other, and I love thinking about it from that level. I always want it to feel as emotional as it does hot.

10. Do you write crossovers? No... But I've been thinking about writing a Merthur fic for years now. And someday I might. But maybe a Klaine/Merthur fic could be fun. (Will probably never happen!)

11. Ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge. 🤔

13. Have you ever co-written a fic? Not really. I did a round-robin style story once, but I consider that a different thing entirely than co-writing.

14. All time favorite ship? Klaine. My OTP forever.

15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have never not finished a story. I have a few small projects I work on in private, but I don't post on AO3 unless I know I'm going to finish them. I'm like this in "real life" too; I can't function with things hanging over my head.

16. Writing strengths? Communication dialogue, and smut. (I hope)

17. Writing Weaknesses? I am very detail-oriented. Sigh. Sometimes I wish I could write more 25k-word stories.

18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue? I don't do it much as I'm too scared I'll mess it up (I say, shaking in my boots for an upcoming chapter of Just One Look), but as a reader as long as I can get a translation in some way (either in text or in the notes) I love it.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Klaine! (I didn't discover fanfiction really until my adult life). I knew what it was, but had never read any.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written? This question is always so hard! It's funny because some of my favorites are the least popular with the fandom...so figure that!? Cry of the Lost Boys, Magic Spoken at Midnight, and honest to goodness, Stranger Than Crackfiction is so silly (affectionate) but so full of love, it makes me sad sometimes that more people haven't read it! 🤣 I have no regrets. I love writing for the Klaine fandom! Mwwwwwwwahhh to all of you still reading!

1. how many works do you have on ao3? 306

2. what’s your total ao3 word count? 2,858,132. I should throw myself a party when I cross 3 million because that's like 20 novels.

3. what fandoms do you write for? Many over the years but atm only 911 Lone Star

4. do you respond to comments? why or why not? Yes! Sometimes very late! Sometimes not as thoroughly as they deserve! But people take time to leave comments and I think it's good manners to respond even if just to say thank you

5. have you ever had a fic stolen? Oh yeah lol. A few just outright copy/pasted with a find + replace done to change the names to whatever other ship (one time it was Klaine from Glee I think.) And once someone posted a fic to a fandom bigbang that had an entire scene blatantly ripped off from a fic I'd published months earlier in that same fandom. It wasn't copied word for word but it was so blatantly just taken from my fic and reworded somewhat that multiple people noticed and told me about it. The organizers of the challenge refused to do anything because the person refused to admit to the plagiarism so that fic is still up 🙃

6. have you ever co-written a fic before? yes several! with friends in multiple fandoms. It's so fun, I would do it again in a heartbeat

7. what’s your all-time favourite ship? Nope. Will not.

8. what are your writing strengths? Dialogue, digging into complicated emotions.

9. what are your writing weaknesses? Exposition (how do they get from place A to place B I dont' know and I hate writing it!) and world-building (not necessarily the creating an AU plot kind of world-building but the super creative fantasy kind where you create a universe with different rules than this one. I'm so shit at that)

10. first fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter rip lol.

Klaine Valentine's Challenge 2025

We have organized a Klaine Fanfiction Challenge for Valentine's Day for 9 straight years. You can find all the past entries HERE. We have been debating whether to do one more this year. Is there still interest? Both for readers and enough writers that will make our work worth it? If we can get at least 10 writers to take and complete the challenge, we will create another KVD for 2025 - 10 years after the end of the show. P.S. If you're a new writer and don't know what's involved - we post a love song (complete with video and lyrics) every day at midnight from February 1 - 14 and you can use anything from the song - title, lyrics, part of the lyrics, etc. to create either a 14 chapter love/romantic story, or 14 drabbles. You post one chapter or drabble every day. Our goal has always been to have at least 1000 words a day, so ideally we'd gain many new multi chapter stories. However, you do whatever moves or inspires you. XO
