second i would like to submit some propaganda for wei wuxian and lan wangji! i love them!!! and one of the things that i love about them is that lan wangji recognizes wei wuxian when he comes back to life despite being in another body and despite wei wuxian trying NOT to be recognized! wwx has been dead for 13-16 years (continuity is wobbly). lwj has absolutely no reason to believe that he has come back from the dead at this time. wwx is in the body of someone that lwj is vaguely familiar with, he is not possessing the body (wwx's brother has a magic lightning whip that let them know that)(he's also there btw that's not important but lwj's absolute disdain at the brother's existence is super funny especially since it comes from him being protective of wwx), but lwj still knew that it was him and immediately chose to make up for the last 16 years of them being apart by never leaving him again and facing off against all of the major clans to keep him safe.

also, there is such a sense of relief in all of their scenes together!!! this is especially apparent in the tv show but every time they run into each other on quests (which is a lot. they're in two different clans in two different territories but somehow always end up stumbling into each other. must be the soulmate thing) there's such a lovely sense of "oh, everything is going to be okay now that you're here." even if things objectively will not be okay. after they had a super dramatic breakup in the rain that directly preceded wei wuxian harboring a colony of fugitives in a haunted burial site and being Public Enemy Number 1, the next time they ran into each other it turned into a lovely, fluffy date complete with lwj meeting the kid wwx is helping to communally raise that lwj will eventually adopt after wwx dies.

ALSO! i do want to say that wangxian has been super important for queer asian rep! the fact that a self-published gay webnovel from china has had so many adaptations and gained global popularity is a testament to how they've captured people's hearts. wei wuxian was a 2d anchor for the 2021 tokyo olympics! ao3 had to limit the number of tags that could be on a fic because of a wangxian fic! please vote for my favorite soulmates i love them dearly.
