I have to wonder if the "stardust" she's surrounded by is a slight reference to Blavat calling the lower magnitude stars "stardust". Most of the kids at the orphanage would count as that, or at least half of them.
Oh, and Tomo Kimura is definitely still the translator, and he's still having Snake call Doll "he". I'm wondering why Kimura has stuck to that. Perhaps Snake and his snakes really don't know Doll's a girl and just assume Doll to be a boy. 🤔 But Doll hasn't corrected Snake.

Our Daily Homily
Tumblr media
by F.B. Meyer
"Comfort ye, comfort ye my people saith your God." - Isaiah 40:1
There is a considerable interval between the preceding chapter and this. The Jews are now nearing the term of their long and bitter sufferings; their fiery trials have done their work.
Comfort, because sin is forgiven.—"Look to the wounds of Jesus, brother," said Staupitz to Luther. At the foot of the cross alone can sinners be comforted. We need not only the assurance of forgiveness, but some knowledge of the way in which it has been obtained, and the grounds on which it is based. Our hearts are never truly comforted till we learn that God is faithful and just when He forgives.
Comfort, because God is on his way to deliver.—The imagery is borrowed from the progress of an Oriental prince or conqueror. Great gangs of men are sent to level the ways before him. Be of good cheer, the prophet says; your God shall come with a strong hand. See the mountains become a way; the crooked is made straight and the rough places smooth. The glorious Lord comes to deliver the afflicted from his strong oppressor, and all flesh shall see it together.
Comfort, because the Strong Deliverer has a tender heart.—He comes as a mighty one, but He feeds his flock like a shepherd. Strong and sweet, mighty and merciful. The Everlasting Father, but the Prince of Peace. Those arms sustain the universe, but they gather lambs.
Comfort, because He faints not, neither is weary.—Others may tire after awhile. Physical strength droops and declines. Time seems long. The current may sweep lovers and friends out of our reach, but Thou remainest! "The Creator of the ends of the earth fainteth not, neither is weary."

The fic in question:
A wonderful fic written by kohane420 that is also incredibly funny, rereading it now and wow, its still as amazing as when I first read it. Its the first part of a two-part series awakening beat and its really cute. I’m pretty bad at summaries but you should definitely go check it out.
Also incredible bonus is I missed an update from 3 DAYS AGO even tho I was SUBSCRIBED HELLO so anyways go check out the new fic its really thought provoking it gave me a lot of brainrot I love it so much
Note: Please let me know if I’m cluttering up any tags so I can adjust them accordingly, I’m doing this mostly as a hobby so I don’t want to dump a random thing in tags so just hmu 👍
Run itself and some notes regarding it below:
1st Run! Had me dying! The word count was 4166 I was confident I would not succeed but I managed!
Tumblr media
1: Do not wake up and immediately go run, I took a nap and woke up 2 hours late, forgot to drink enough water and ended getting stitches on my left side and holy damn it hurt
2: The school I ran around for like 2 laps is called RVHS, its kinda a mix of Kamiyama and Miyajou (Think high class prep school and mixed gender)
3: Plans actually got changed cuz I woke up too late and didn't want to run on a dark highway
4: This time is not accurate cuz I paused to take 2 minutes or so to stretch my arms cuz it cramped sorry homies
5: Listened to some music while I ran! The starting music wa Darling Dance - Minoharu + Miku cover and the ending song was A lone sheep/Hitsuji ga Ippiki covered by VBS + Meiko,
6: both of them are great songs but I’m now realising I should have ran to beat eater but well, I’ll do that for the second part :( :D

Day 19: Enough is enough
Knees buckling | Repeatedly passing out | Head lolling
Eddie likes his new position. Sort of.
The people at dispatch are friendly enough, and aside from the run-in with Josh in his first week when he ‘hijacked a call’, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. Sure, it’s low on the action front but that’s what he’d wanted. Right?
Right.

dead boy detectives reading list
with the show finally out i figured it was a great time to share my reading list again! check it out below the cut 👻☠️🔎
Tumblr media
-
Tumblr media
⏳ the sandman #25 (1991)
this is their first appearance!
Tumblr media
🐇 the children's crusade (1993)/free country: a tale of the children's crusade (2015)
1. the children's crusade #1
(2. black orchid annual #1
3. animal man annual #1
4. swamp thing annual #7
5. doom patrol annual #2
6. arcana annual #1)
7. the children's crusade #2
alternatively you can just read free country. whether or not you read the annuals i recommend reading free country's middle chapter
!!! in place of the annuals there is an additional middle chapter that was created for the book "free country: a tale of the children's crusade" where it is placed between the two children's crusade issues. the boys don't actually appear in most of the annuals (they are in two panels of swamp thing and appear in doom patrol) and reading them isn't necessary but i figured i would include them as they are part of the story.
Tumblr media
❄️ winter's edge #3 (2000)
this is an anthology. their part is the 'books of magic: waiting for good dough' story starting on page 19
Tumblr media
🐦‍⬛ the sandman presents: the dead boy detectives (2001, 4 issues)
i believe the tv show's esther finch was partially based on this run's villain.
*
(they do have a part in 'death: at death's door' from 2003. it's short and really just a retelling of events from sandman #25 with some minor changes. the entirety of their appearance in death: at death's door is included at the end of the next comic im listing so i am not really adding the death: at death's door book to the list)
Tumblr media
☠️ the dead boy detectives (2005, one-shot)
this book was made by jill thompson in a very cute manga-esque style
Tumblr media
👻 ghosts (2012), time warp (2013), the witching hour (2013)
these three are anthologies. the story 'the dead boy detectives in: run ragged' runs through all of them. 'run ragged' kicks off the next run.
Tumblr media
🔮 from the pages of the sandman: dead boy detectives (2013, 12 issues)
this is the comic where crystal is introduced! a book collecting all 12 issues titled 'dead boy detectives by toby litt & mark buckingham' was released in 2023
Tumblr media
🔎the sandman universe: dead boy detectives (2022, 6 issues)
the most recent run, centered around some really interesting thai mythology and featuring multiple edwin moments that i am sure you will love
-
and that's everything! i also recommend buying the omnibus if you can. it includes everything minus the 2022 run plus some additional bonus content!
Tumblr media
i hope this is helpful! feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the comics. dead boy detectives is my number one interest so i should be able to answer
have fun reading! 👻

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #25
June 28-July 5 2024
The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Is putting forward the first ever federal safety regulation to protect worker's from excessive heat in the workplace. As climate change has caused extreme heat events to become more common work place deaths have risen from an average of 32 heat related deaths between 1992 and 2019 to 43 in 2022. The rules if finalized would require employers to provide drinking water and cool break areas at 80 degrees and at 90 degrees have mandatory 15-minute breaks every two hours and be monitored for signs of heat illness. This would effect an estimated 36 million workers.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced $1 Billion for 656 projects across the country aimed at helping local communities combat climate change fueled disasters like flooding and extreme heat. Some of the projects include $50 Million to Philadelphia for a stormwater pump station and combating flooding, and a grant to build Shaded bus shelters in Washington, D.C.
The Department of Transportation announced thanks to efforts by the Biden Administration flight cancellations at the lowest they've been in a decade. At just 1.4% for the year so far. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg credited the Department's new rules requiring automatic refunds for any cancellations or undue delays as driving the good numbers as well as the investment of $25 billion in airport infrastructure that was in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The Department of Transportation announced $600 million in the 3rd round of funding to reconnect communities. Many communities have been divided by highways and other Infrastructure projects over the years. Most often effecting racial minority and poor areas. The Biden Administration is dedicated to addressing these injustices and helping reconnect communities split for decades. This funding round will see Atlanta’s Southside Communities reconnected as well as a redesign for Birmingham’s Black Main Street, reconnecting a community split by Interstate 65 in the 1960s.
The Biden Administration approved its 9th offshore wind power project. About 9 miles off the coast of New Jersey the planned wind farm will generated 2,800 megawatts of electricity, enough to power almost a million homes with totally clear power. This will bring the total amount of clean wind power generated by projects approved by the Biden Administration to 13 gigawatts. The Administration's climate goal is to generate 30 gigawatts from wind.
The Biden Administration announced funding for 12 new Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs. The $504 million dollars will go to supporting tech hubs in, Colorado, Montana, Indiana, Illinois, Nevada, New York, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. These tech hubs together with 31 already announced and funded will support high tech manufacturing jobs, as well as training for 21st century jobs for millions of American workers.
HHS announced over $200 million to support improved care for older Americans, particularly those with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The money is focused on training primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health care clinicians in best practices in elder and dementia care, as well as seeking to  integrate geriatric training into primary care. It also will support ways that families and other non-medical care givers can be educated to give support to aging people.
HHS announced $176 million to help support the development of a mRNA-based pandemic influenza vaccine. As part of the government's efforts to be ready before the next major pandemic it funds and supports new vaccine's to try to predict the next major pandemic. Moderna is working on an mRNA vaccine, much like the Covid-19, vaccine focused on the H5 and H7 avian influenza viruses, which experts fear could spread to humans and cause a Covid like event.

Living His Word
Tumblr media
"No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you." - Joshua 1:5
The words of our verse for today are words that God spoke to Joshua. Moses had died and Joshua was now the head of the people of Israel. In order to strengthen Joshua's resolve in his new capacity, God assured him that He would be with him just as He was with Moses. God had been with Moses through thick and thin and the same would now be true for Joshua.
This meant, first of all, that God would help him to govern the nation of Israel. This was no small task. God described the Israelites as a "stiff-necked people" (Exodus 32:9) and Joshua surely knew he would face severe challenges in this regard. God's promise, however, was that no man would be able to stand against him and take his authority from him. Secondly, this meant that God would help him lead the people into battle against the Canaanites. This, too, was no small task. God knew the opposition was entrenched and fierce. That's why He led His people the long way to the Promised Land. He knew they needed time to get ready for battle (Exodus 13:17).
God also promised never to leave Joshua or forsake him. Given the difficulties of Joshua's new position of authority, this was a comforting promise to receive. Joshua had taken control of the Israelites and was about to lead them into the most difficult period of their national history. With God's help Moses had successfully led the people out of Egypt and to this point in their journey and Joshua needed to know that God would help him as well. He needed to know that God would not abandon him when the going got tough.
Perhaps you find yourself in Joshua's shoes today. You have been led by God to this point in life and you are about to take on the most difficult task you have ever faced. The people you lead may be rebellious, there may even be one that covets your position, and the opposition may be entrenched and fierce. If so, then take heart today, for the God of Joshua is your God too.
He will be with you and He will not leave you or forsake you.
