hi. im a young person who had been suffered from an unknown possibly respitory possibly skeleto-muscular disorder for likely my whole life.

for 4 or so years I have been suffering from chronic depression, thanks to a drug called montelukast.

When I was put on this drug it was not know to cause mental health disrupencies, but a little over a year and a half and 9 months after i was diagnosed with ocd and anxiety, and several weeks after i was diagnosed with major depression, a study came out.

It proved that this drug has unlocked inactive mental illness pieces inside people. For me it was depression. For others it has been psychosis, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and more.

There have been 82 completed cases of suicide in correlation with Montelukast discovered by the FDA. This drug that is still on the market, marketed and prescribed mostly to children and babies for asma, has killed almost a hundred people at least.

This information was fully discovered a year and a half ago, but some mental illness and montelukast associations where added to the side effects in 2008.

This medication is prescribed to people of all ages, but mostly effects children.

The FDA have said that this drug should only be used in extreme cases of asma and similar disorders, and only when patients respond to no other treatment.

If you are a patient or a parent on, previously on, or about to begin Montelukast, please, please, at have a conversation with your doctor about if the pros outweigh the cons.

Unfortunately, since so much is discovered about drugs and medicine every day, many doctors are unaware of the extreme side effects of this drug, and continue prescribing it like usual.

This drug can be helpful and good to some people, but it is very important to be informed about the side effects of every drug before you take it, especially if the drug has killed 82 people.

Please, please, do not let yourself or your family member become a victim to this drug like me, and signal boost.

Men, Trauma and Homelessness

Now that we have covered some basic facts regarding women, trauma and homelessness, it is time to dive into men, trauma and homelessness. This is an important topic as the vast majority of people who experience homelessness are males. They make up 70% of the homeless population while females only make up 29%. The other 1% are transgender and non-binary individuals. Even though more males are homeless, they are less likely than females to find a shelter as 49% of males are unsheltered compared to 45% of females (Moses, & Janosko, 2019).    

But what leads males to experience homelessnes? Well, it is a combination of structural as well as individual factors, but I will focus on the trauma aspect of it since this is a trauma and homelessness blog after all. As mentioned before, homeless males were identified to be exposed to more physical violence/trauma compared to homeless females (Woodhall-Melnik et al., 2018). And contrary to popular belief, trauma is more common among homeless males than mental health issues or substance use disorders. Fewer than 4 in 10 people experiencing homelessness are dependent on alcohol and fewer than 3 in 10 people abuse other drugs (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2020).  

The trauma they experience does not only impact their mental health, but also future relationships with their partners. Despite enduring physical violence and trauma, some males are able to live life and hold down stable housing while having a family, but after a relationship loss with their partner, they can experience homelessness for the first time. For many of them, this experience can snowball into substance dependence, involvement with the criminal justice system, and experiences of mental illness (Woodhall-Melnik et al., 2018).

It also also be noted that homeless males tend to live in isolation, be severely psychiatrically impaird, and be a military vertern with PTSD compared to homeless females. They are also more likely to have serious substance abuse problems, be hospitalized for substance use, and be involved in criminal activities (Kim et al., 2010).

I rode to work and then happy hour and then to a show at the Trailhead! It was cool riding wearing my sweatshirt for some of the riding. There was sprinkles on the ground but I didn’t get wet at all in the morning. It rained during the day and that was it.
