This is something that Shirai recently confirmed in the 8th anniversary Q&A on the Yakuneba community website, specifically here in the second batch of answers released.

With the way it's translated, I'm unsure if "know" means everyone who ever knew this information or characters who are alive at the end of the story and are aware of it.

These ones are for sure:

So that leaves four others.

If it's characters who are alive and people can mean anyone, then the Grace Field Demon Boss might count since his fate is unknown after chapter 177. The last we hear about him is that the royal demon guard arrested him after his head was lobbed off.

I also default to Mike Ratri knowing as the head of the Ratri clan with access to the database containing all the information related to the cattle children:

I talk about this here, too, but it seems like Krone brought a dossier with information about the plant #3 children with her in order to confirm the veracity of Ray's bait note implicating Isabella's assistance in their upcoming escape due to knowing Ray was her biological son. If Krone had access to information like that, I don't think it's out of bounds for Mike to have it as well. Even if he isn't aware of it at the time the children arrive in the human world, if he's a point of contact with the cast to help them settle into the human world initially, I wouldn't be surprised if delved deeper into information regarding children of note like the full score trio.

If we're including characters who have died, then the list looks like this:

With the ninth person being up in the air, though as of right now I settle on Mike for angst in my own silly little headcanons and AUs.

Interestingly, there's also this line from the second chapter of the mystic code book:

"The farm authorities didn't want Isabella to suspect that Ray is her biological son" makes it sound like this was common knowledge among the upper ranks of headquarters (and something I like angsting about in posts like this one. If Isabella is off limits from being eaten due to being the youngest and most capable Mom the farms have ever seen, then eating her son is theoretically the next best thing).

But again, I'm not sure how much of this is tied up in the translation and how much of this is Shirai being potentially contradictory after a decade of being involved with this story.

Do you think Emma and Norman would figure out this fact all by themselves later?

I appreciate how you word this because I'm of the mind there is absolutely no way in hell Ray would ever willingly reveal this information to anyone without prompting from outside forces until his very late teens/early twenties at the earliest (see here for an extremely indulgent AU of mine that incorporates a throughline they discarded in S2 where Isabella goes after the kids as an extreme version of an outside force).

If he has any say in the matter, he's taking this information to the grave.

However, that doesn't mean Emma and Norman can't discern things on their own. After the events of the escape arc, if a fanfic author runs with the idea that Emma and/or Norman picked up on this but remain quiet on the subject because that's Ray's secret to keep or reveal (something I've seen before), I think it's reasonable, though I think it's less likely for Emma to rediscover after losing her memories and assuming she never regains them.

I'm also someone who likes to overthink about this panel from chapter 174 and Norman's incorporation in it. It could easily just be due to knowing Ray had a unique relationship with Isabella due to being her spy for years…but why not throw more angst in with him knowing the extra layer of gravity in this exchange between the two as another reason for his knowing and somber expression? (You could also extend this to Emma, but I focus on Norman just because we can see he's looking back at Ray whereas Emma's still looking in the general direction of Isabella). He had over a year in Lambda to reflect on his time at Grace Field and pore over all the oddities he noticed between Isabella and Ray but chalked up to other things at the time…and isn't that so incredibly like Ray to keep that kind of conflict and pain to himself, either to spare others or because he loathes pity. There's a sad fondness tinging the thought.

I also like to entertain the idea of Peter and Norman interacting more because it's one of the least explored protagonist and antagonist dynamics in the series. Even if it isn't prompted by having a familial connection with Norman that I touch upon here:

This is already long but a tangentially related conversation to this eventually comes up with Peter asking about Emma and Ray. On the surface, it's to connect with Norman and learn more about his life at Grace Field, but the ulterior motive is to see if there's any information he can glean about these kids to find and capture them quicker. Norman will give it to him for having the tact not to slip and refer to them by their numbers like he's sure he wants to do, but he's still incensed at their names in his mouth. There's also the chance that Peter might reveal a crumb of information himself about their status (because Norman can't see why he would be asking unless he had something to gain from it, so that has to mean their escape was a success and they were all alive. The alternative would kill him), so he entertains the conversation. --- #also it might seem counterintuitive to kill Emma and Ray if he wants to engender love for him in Norman #but the sentiments are Norman would have eventually outgrown them anyway so it's fine and he'll get over it lol

The full score trio are kind of like celebrities among demon nobility and humans at headquarters.

So I could see Peter asking Norman about them to gain information, and maybe one of the things he brings up is Isabella's connection with Ray, possibly bringing up the note if he somehow managed to be privy to that information (maybe Sarah told him, maybe he stumbled across the note in Sarah's office during the transfer of power from her to Isabella as Grandma since Isabella most likely came across it among the treasures Sarah collected over the years, like the embroidered map of headquarters in the second light novel/Krone's bonus chapter, lots of contrivances to work with) to both see how Norman reacts to it and as a means to evaluate how trustworthy Isabella is in her new role.

Something I imagine for that earlier mentioned Isabella Raids the Bunker AU, but I think it's transferable to other scenarios as well, is Ray divulging that secret to Norman in light of the circumstances, and Norman revealing he put the pieces together because he had a lot of time to think at Lambda, citing a few instances that made more sense to him because of it, and in an echo to their exchange in chapter 13/S1 episode 5, Ray responds with something along the lines of "I really can't get anything past you, huh."

Norman's intelligence is one of the many reasons he's fond of and cares for him, how capable and attentive it can make him, but there's bittersweetness and grief tinging those words due to the situation in general and at the thought of him having been obvious about things back at the house that all circle back around to him loathing the idea of pity directed at him when roughly sixty of his siblings at Grace Field plant #3 suffered a worse fate under Isabella's care, a few of them as a direct result of his choices.

It's the self-loathing that makes his mind interpret his friends looking at him with pity when what they're offering him is understanding, compassion, and love.

todo is the type to call you to talk about your mutually favorite idol: TAKADA-CHAN! he was so stoked to meet another fan like him, not minding that you were part of the fandom! yet lately, it seems like his late night calls would stop focusing on takada-chan and more about you…

you lay back in bed with your cellphone pressed against your right ear. on the other line was your best friend, todo, as you spoke excitedly about the meet and greet with takada-chan. you were simply reminiscing about how amazingly sweet she was, and how you nearly passed out when she agreed to take a selfie with both of you.

“ahhh i can’t stop grinning, thinking about that day aoi!”

a small chuckle was heard on the other line as todo seems to simply remain quiet, allowing you to do most of the talking, only interjecting when you asked for his input or thoughts about how he felt during that simply amazing day.

yet, the more you listened to him, the more his answers seemed nonchalant- almost lackluster, even.

“how did you feel when takada-chan grabbed your hand, giving it a shake?”

“it was alright.”

“wasn’t takada-chan super cute in her outfit! her theme was shooting stars!”

“yes, she was cute.”

“uhm, do you think she has the perfect singing voice?”

“i’d much rather hear you sing.”

your mouth was wide open in a gape, his latest answer was enough to make your head spin as you looked down incredulously at your phone. upon noticing your sudden silence, todo was heard letting out a string of curses.

“fuck, i’m sorry… did that make you uncomfortable?”

you felt yourself shaking your head in response, placing your phone back against your ear, “n-no! not at all aoi, it’s just… uhm… i didn’t expect it?”

todo’s rich chuckle fills your ears. “ah, and why is it unexpected, cutie?”

the heat felt against your cheeks was damn near unbearable, and you clenched your eyes shut, ignoring the sudden racing of your heart when you shakily tell him, "well, i mean... isn't takada-chan your number one girl?"

upon hearing your question, todo lets out another hearty laugh, his voice taking on a sudden softness- tone made gentler from the pinpricks of adoration he was beginning to feel for you.

"honey, takada-chan stopped being my number one girl the moment you stepped into my life. why would i ever want an idol that i can see once every 2 to 3 months, when i've got my own angel i can hold in my arms every single day?"

you could literally feel your heart begin to race from within the confines of your chest, making a sudden epiphany fill you as you allowed todo's words to repeat themselves over and over again within your head...

"so, what do you say, babygirl? you feel like goin' out on a date with me tomorrow? if you say yes, i'll take you to your favorite ice cream parlor and buy you as many flavors as you want."

you couldn't stop your giggling if you tried, falling back into bed while admitting to todo with a wide grin on your face, "it's a date!"

megumi is the type who will always accept your calls regardless of how late it is! if you're ever feeling anxious about anything, be it an upcoming exam, an argument you had with your parents, or just needed a 'good friend' to keep you company, you can always count on megumi.

your tears were still streaming down your face when you brokenly spoke into the phone, knowing that megumi was listening intently to you on the other end.

"fuck, 'gumi, it just hurts when my parents scold me for not having any particular goals in life. they get so mad at me, comparing me constantly to my older sister. she's driven and passionate about becoming a doctor, yes, but that's not what i ever wanted to do."

you hear megumi let out a scoff, yet still doesn't speak a word as he allows you to vent about the argument that you had with your parents earlier today at dinner.

your voice takes on hushed tones, being mindful at how it was 2am and that your parents were in a deep sleep right now. taking in a sharp inhale, you angrily wipe away at those tears that refused to stop streaming down your face.

"it's just, i'm so fucking tired of hearing the same conversation every day. i'm only on my second year of high school, and i shouldn't have to make a career choice so soon."

"i agree. i'm actually feeling pretty pissed along with you, so your feelings are completely valid."

and just like that, you felt your heart become considerably lighter in response to megumi's reassuring words. your tears finally slowed down its angry cascade down your cheeks, and you let out a giggle while thanking megumi.

"seriously megs, thank you, for always making time out of your day to listen to my rants. i'm honestly so shocked that you're still around, listening to me bitch and moan all the time."

megumi's laughter succeeds in making you shiver in response, making an almost dreamy smile paint your features as you felt so happy that he couldn't see you at this exact moment.

"don't mention it... i'll do anything to make you feel better..."

the hidden passion hidden within his voice makes your heart flutter in response, yet before you could call him out on it, megumi immediately changes the subject by clearing his throat suddenly, "listen, tomorrow's the start of the weekend. how about i take you out? we can have breakfast at that cafe you're always raving about."

you giggle and felt yourself nodding eagerly in response. "yes, that sounds perfect... thank you."

not wishing to stop talking to him, you spend the next few hours talking about your plans together, your anger being quickly replaced by sheer joy thanks to megumi.

best friend vibes who will talk your ear off about anything and everything all at once! you just loved hearing yuji's voice when it gets passionate about discussing the things he loves... but lately, it's been getting difficult for yuji to hide that the thing he loves the most has always been you...

"uhm, can i tell you a secret?" your name comes from yuji's parted lips in a bit of a tremor, making you feel a little worried for him. you sit up in bed and start picking at the ends of your comforter, wondering why yuji suddenly sounded so anxious.

you heard the sounds of rustling and movement on the other end, already picturing your best friend pacing around his room as he began to mumble softly, being too quiet for you to really discern what was being said.

yuji whistles on the other end, and you can just imagine the perfectly handsome smirk now spreading over his lips. "babe, i really like the sound of that. let's do that real soon... can i come over tomorrow and see you?"

with the biggest grin on your face, you nod and tell him, "nothing would make me happier, yuji."

you hear your boyfriend let out a pleased hum on the other line, just simply basking in the sound of your voice as you kept going on and on about everything that you did today.

you laugh along with him, but finally relented and told him every single details about your meals throughout the day. when you finished, yuta lets out a pleased hum, and you could imagine his expression being one in deep thought.

"not bad, perhaps my love isn't so hopeless after all?"

"i'm doing just fine! but i will admit, i do miss your cooking, yuta." your smile was a wry one, truly missing your boyfriend since he had been away for so long. even with the distance, your heart truly still sang for yuta, since he always did his best to call you every day, no matter what time it was.

which made it considerably easy for you, especially during the late nights where you would find yourself missing him. whenever such yearnings struck, you would simply go back to your chat logs with yuta, or recall the conversations you had with him.

your heart was filled to the brim with love for him, making you giggle as you tell him, "now, that's enough about my day. tell me about yours."

hello, i was late to the fandom so i might have missed out on this discourse but do we ever find out the real content of Ray's letter to Isabella? Is it something of a plot point the author hasn't developed in canon? If so, what would the plot be you think? Thank you so much!!

Shirai has never officially, explicitly stated in an interview what's in the letter Ray writes in chapter 22/S1 episode 7, but I've talked about this before and personally find it funny how he made a big deal out of the mystery surrounding it back in a 2019 Jump interview (translated here):

When I feel most people’s first guess as to what was in it after the escape arc concluded was eventually confirmed in December 2020 with the release of chapter 181.3:

A farewell letter from a son to his mother that reveals their biological connection when headquarters purposely kept it a secret.

It's meant to be such a huge revelation it stops Krone in her tracks and deters her from digging around in Ray's room further to discover the rewards he's been receiving for six years and the lighter fluid he's been stockpiling for five.

(Mystic Code Book Chapter 1 Q& A | Chapter 22; Krone evens whips out records she brought along in her suitcase from headquarters to corroborate what she's read.)

I've also talked before about how Ray's retaliation was threefold in its pettiness, and this letter falls into points 2 & 3. After years of bottling up his anger and resentment toward her, he wanted to incriminate her by implicating she at very least knew about the escape, potentially that she even helped with it, all because she knew of their biological connection and wanted him to survive (the same thing he wished she would have said to him back on his sixth birthday at the gate):

He found it sickening how she could choose to prolong her own life by sacrificing all his siblings over the course of her tenure at Grace Field. With this, he thought he would seal her death at the hands of the demons she groveled before like a dog, while he would die on his own terms as a human.

What he didn't count on was Isabella's prioritizing results over rules was something that was enabled by her mother, to the point they were willing to remove Krone from plant no.3 altogether.

Ray assumed Krone did not have the means to contact headquarters like Isabella did, so she would keep the bait and bide her time until presented with the opportunity to reveal it to someone higher in the chain of command. Ray assumed Krone would still be at Grace Field at the time of the escape, and that after he was dead and the four other oldest kids were gone and headquarters was looking for an explanation for how a blunder of this magnitude could have possibly happened, Krone would show her hand to usurp Isabella's position.

It's why he's so caught off-guard when Isabella reveals she made a move first.

As for why Shirai gave conflicting information about this, I'm assuming he wanted to leave the door open for multiple possibilities before his health tanked and he began aggressively cutting off story branches so he could still complete the series under his own power and maintain his sense of artistic integrity.
