#002. LIFE IN SHADOW ( season 2 )

PLOT DROP 002 pt 2 ;;

King Rhaegar sat at the high table, a fine figure in his royal attire, adorned with the emblem of the dragon. His keen violet orbs watched his guests, a soft smile playing upon his lips as he savored the roasted boar, the meat cooked to perfection and subtly seasoned. He seemed to be enjoying the festivities, laughing heartily at the jester's antics, clapping in rhythm with the bards’ songs, and raising his goblet in several toasts. His charm was infectious, his charisma a beacon in the grand hall.

Rhaegar, resplendent in his silver and crimson attire, rose from his seat of carved ebony, a goblet of Dornish Red glinting in his hand. A hush descended upon the sea of guests as his voice rang out, the words of the peace treaty echoing in the grand hall. The room was charged with anticipation as the King brought the goblet to his lips.

As if struck by an unseen bolt, Rhaegar gasped, the goblet tumbling from his grip, crimson wine cascading down like a river of blood. He buckled, a proud tree felled in an instant, his life extinguished as swiftly as a candle in a storm. His goblet lay abandoned, a silent witness to a king's fall.

Panic rippled through the hall, a tidal wave of terror and confusion. Swords sang as they were unsheathed, metal clashed against metal, a symphony of chaos. The madness was curbed only by the combined efforts of Prince Daeron Targaryen and the Stark King, their voices booming through the uproar, a lighthouse amidst a raging storm. A grim decree was issued: the Red Keep, once a beacon of joy and revelry, was now a prison. No one would leave the capital; no soul would escape until the serpent that caused the tragedy was brought to justice.

Without wasting a moment, the royal guards began a frantic search throughout the castle, interrogating guests, scouring rooms, all in the desperate attempt to uncover the culprit. The Red Keep was on high alert, its once welcoming halls now a labyrinth of suspicion. The dawn brought no relief, only a chilling discovery. The news descended upon the court like a raven of ill omen, casting a pall of suspicion over the Stark household. The remains of potion were discovered in Prince Richard Stark’s and Ser Silas' chambers. In the eye of this growing tempest, a lifeline was thrown over the next few days.

A betrothal between Prince Jasper Baratheon and Princess Wylla Stark was announced, a bond aimed to unite the dragon and the wolf, to bridge the widening chasm of distrust. A glimmer of hope pierced the cloak of uncertainty, but it was a fragile thread holding the realm together.

The air in the Great Sept was heavy with expectation, the echoes of Rhaegar's untimely death still resounding in the hallowed stone. The coronation of King Daeron was fast approaching. For now, the realm held its breath, caught in the delicate dance of politics and power, the shadow of betrayal looming overhead from the loss of their king.

ooc: hi everyone! in light of the sudden, tragic demise of king rhaegar, his son, prince daeron, ascends to the throne. as we navigate through this next plot drop, you are welcome to begin writing and crafting your character's own narratives during the actual event of the king's poisoning, or in the aftermath of this shocking incident, as per your preference.

prince richard and ser silas (thanks to muns bruce and amanda for being willing to have their characters part of this plot drop!) have been implicated in this unsettling event, victims of a dangerous plot that casts a shadow of suspicion over them. in other words, they were framed! however, this is not known ic.

amidst this turmoil, an opportunity arises to reinforce the bonds of unity between north and nouth. in effort of dispelling the rumours of the north's involvement in the king's death, both kingdoms have expressed hopes to solidify their burgeoning peace talks and establish a potent alliance by intertwining their destinies in a marriage of their noble houses.

      wherever  she  went  it  didn’t  seem  like  her  choice  MATTERED.  not  in  the  lab,  nor  at  mike’s  and  now  . . .  here  in  this  cabin  with  hopper  it  didn’t  either.  at  least  he  asks,  sometimes.  she  sits,  shoulders  hunched  inward,  arms  folded  over  her  middle.  the  place  has  been  cleaned  up,  livable,  and  she  has  HER  OWN  ROOM.  she  even  has  a  blanket.  but  for  all  these  new  things,  still  she  wants  for  just  ONE,  that  seems  out  of  reach.  “ i  know.  danger. ”  she  says,  bluntly,  it’s  only  been  forty - two  days.

001 :   TAKE US ALIVE   ——— OTHER LIVES

Other than being a big fan of this band, this was one of my more memorable moments hearing this song for the first time in my first watch when Abe was in York City (in season 2). It’s such a good song and it gives me such an Abe vibe anyway and especially at the point where Abe finally gains more confidence in his spying ability sort of like a “Test me and see what happens” sorta vibe.

002 :   TAMER ANIMALS   ——— OTHER LIVES

Another vibe song. I can definitely picture this song being used in t.urn in Abe’s scenes. 

003 :   HELSINKI   ——— THE NATIONAL PARKS

This is such a pretty song and does give me a t.urn vibe as well, gives me sorta the “turtle dove” song in t.urn. This gives me a super big Anna/Abe vibe with how Abe feels towards Anna and I can see this song being taken place when Abe is off to college, away from Setauket, or when he’s married to Mary. The lines “Oh, Helsinki, I was meant for you, my dear / Oh, Helsinki, when you’re gone I know I will wish you near.” Also the vibe of this song gives me a feeling of how their relationship would’ve felt like in the beginning: all this excitement with the engagement and everything, then the somber ending of this song is when they are split.

004 :   TURPIN HERO   ——— JAKE BUGG

Just a nostalgia song for me. It gives me such an Abe vibe and I couldn’t find it suitable for any other t.urn character than maybe Caleb.

005 :   STRAWBERRY BLOND   ——— MITSKI  

I just posted about this one but it gives me such an Abe & Thomas vibe. Always feeling in the shadow but also wanting to be recognized by his brother. In Abe’s view, Thomas has everything. Everything works perfectly for him and the way his father praises him so heavily gives him almost this unattainable quality to where Abe can never reach his level of success and likeness. “Oh, All I ever wanted was a life in your shape” is basically saying how Abe always wanted to be Thomas and was envious of his life compared to his, though Abe seeks to find his own path later on he’s still tied to Thomas in people’s comparisons.

006 :  HOLY BRANCHES   ——— RADICAL FACE

Another favorite artist of mine. “There’s a hole in your chest / from the time that you were born / one that don’t get filled / ‘cause you’ve always known you’re nothing they want.” This is another one of Abe’s childhood songs but this does give me a transformation into adulthood towards the end with the lines “I’ll bide my time until I’m something they want” which is a more hopeful idea. This song is very cynical but I find that suitable for him because Abe’s childhood was not all positive and happy all the time, more just in small glimpses. I don’t think Abe was as patient & submissive as the beginning of the song talks about, but I do see Abe feeling like he has to accommodate to everyone else, having to follow what everyone else is saying all the time in his youth to where he has no life of his own. So, by the end of the song, he basically is like “Fuck it, I’ll do my own thing and just wait until I gain some respect that will eventually come. I know my worth.”

007 :  DANCING AFTER DEATH   ——— MATT MAESON

Another vibe song but I can see some connection with Abe/Anna. Sort of more during s4 or when Abe eventually fully cuts off his affair with Anna. Also can see some connection to when Anna is going to get married to Hewlett with “If I let go, would you hold on? / Would we fly? “ to where he doesn’t know where Anna’s loyalty lies or where they stand, what she thinks of their previous relationship and what he thought was their new normal. He is still deeply connected to Anna with the lines “Do I know better than this? / You’re a word that I can’t forget / Though the thought rattles my brain” and finally acceptance towards the end but specifically with the lines “Is it safer to say that we tried?”

008 :   MAKE THEM HEAR YOU   ——— NINE

I get a general Culper spy ring vibe from this but also a personal vibe from Abe. The general Culper vibe is with the lines “And say to those who blame us / For the way we chose to fight / That sometimes there are battles / That are more than black or white” with the whole spying thing and how spying is usually seen as dishonorable and not “practical” for a war. Abe’s more personal line is right after this with “And I could not put down my sword / When justice was my right” it could also fit the spy ring as well with how Patriots felt disrespected and taken advantage of, but I see it for Abe in how he was able to do something about this. He was able to participant and help his cause and do his own form of justice, he couldn’t just sit around and do nothing when the opportunity was in front of him. 

009 :   BURY ME FACE DOWN   ——— GRANDSON

Another vibe song but I think this is more suitable for Abe’s character. It’s about his persistence and how he isn’t willing to give up so easily, his whole line Abe says in the show about how if he still has air in his lungs, he’ll keep fighting. 

010 :   METAPHOR   ——— THE CRANE WIVES

Another weird one where some  of the lyrics fit Abe. Abe lies a lot in the show and it’s kinda suitable in that regard, but also for the lines “I’ve gotten good at leaning on metaphors / I’ve gotten good at living on someone else’s page” which means how he was always Thomas’ shadow. He’s so good at molding himself to fit others’ version of himself (usually) so acting as someone else isn’t too hard for him either. “Don’t look too hard, ‘cause you won’t like the scars he left in me” references Thomas’ death and how this has effected him the most, could also be sorta suitable for his strained relationship with his father and how that has affected him. His whole childhood and upbringing has affected his personality greatly and can bring out his worst traits.

PLOT DROP 002

OCTOBER 3RD-9TH.

The weeks following a tragedy can only be described as such: emotional, crippling, & eye-opening. No one can hide behind rose-colored glasses anymore. Not when the shadows have come alive to claim such an innocent soul. And maybe that’s what is most frightening: Xenophilius Lovegood was innocent. He never had a say on the matters of such dark topics. He was neutral. He stuck to only the strange and curious things he found in the world. That is what made him happy. But now, he is gone. And the only question on everyone’s mind has been why. Why? Why? Why? Why? … And Who?

Maybe there is no good answer, though. Maybe things just have to come to an end. Even when it is the last thing on earth anyone wants.

But maybes aren’t good enough for those still alive. The lack of answers to this sudden death has stirred many… reactions. For the more delicate souls: tears have welled up in eyes until they became puffy, red, and irritated. Their answer became hiding beneath the comfort of thick blankets as their tears soaked the bedsheets beneath. “Tears are the best medicine,” they would whimper out as they lost themselves to their mourning. For those less, well, delicate: cigarettes have been used as disguises to hide exuberant smiles and smother the sounds of hideous laughter. They have come to swallow their joy until night falls. In the night, hidden like a kiss shared beneath secret lovers, their unnatural desires and joy come to light. To them death was beautiful. It was meant to be celebrated as much as life.

But, it wasn’t beautiful. It didn’t take your breath away in the right way. It paralyzed. It robbed most of their joy. It gave some the will to finally fight. The truth wasn’t beautiful, but it was galvanizing. It was a call to arms for those who had begun to fall asleep to the war raging right outside their very doors.

Now they demand answers. They demand action out of the Aurors where there has seemed to be very little. For all the students in the castle know, the room of requirement has been scrubbed clean and the body sent to the ministry then the morgue. Answers became vague, professors became secretive, and students became disheartened or frustrated. There’s a killer loose in the halls, after all, and nothing seems to be getting done. And doesn’t there feel like something should be done? Classes carried on. Clubs held meetings. The first quidditch match of the season has been announced. All such normal things… yet nothing felt normal anymore.

We certainly can’t mourn forever. But, this felt almost wrong. And why hasn’t the headmaster made any announcements since last week? Why hasn’t he been seen? Why hasn’t Filch?

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10TH.

The Quidditch pitch is drained of blue and green. As far as the eye can see, there is only red and gold. Most snakes couldn’t be bothered to watch the badgers fall to the lions, again. Some still went with hopes of seeing Gryffindor’s pride shaken were they to lose. The claws found more joy in the peaceful silence that would overtake the library with many of the students outside today. They knew they could shove their noses in a plethora of books without being disturbed, for once. But there were still a few, too, who preferred a nice day out in the sweltering sun, a light October chill cooling the back of their necks as they pressed in close towards the people around them to catch all they could of the game. It wasn’t the most anticipated game of the season, but it was the first one and, after the last few weeks Hogwarts had, it drew a crowd larger than expected.

Madam Hooch’s voice rings loud, and shrill, in everyone's’ ears.

“Mount your brooms, please.” A pause. Goggles get yanked down from the top of heads to shield eyes from the bitter winds. Legs immediately swing over broomsticks. Then, “Gryffindor. Hufflepuff. I expect a nice, clean game.” She stops, giving a more pointed glare towards the children in red who roll their eyes. “Now… Let’s begin.”

Brooms zip into the air as Hooch releases all four balls from the central circle. The Quaffle being the last as it is thrown into the air personally by Madam Hooch to signal the start of play. The Seekers, Florence and Ted, are quick to narrow their focus solely to the Golden Snitch as the world descends into the usual madness around them.

SCORES: Gryffindor scores 11 times ( Marlene - 4, Theo - 2, James - 3, & Substitute Beater - 2). Hufflepuff scores 6 times ( Ludo - 3, Benjy - 1, Greta - 1, & Daisy - 1). Ted Tonks catches the Golden Snitch by leaping from his broom to win the game.

BLOCKS: Edgar Bones blocks 13 attempts at goal, narrowly missing 3 of those blocks and having 1 really close call where he almost fell from his broom to block the Quaffle. Gideon Prewett blocks 9 attempts at goal, narrowly missing 2 of those blocks.

PENALTIES: None.

INJURIES: Roman Wilkes was missing from play due to being too sick. Marlene has a bruised rib from a Quaffle hit via Greta. Ludo has a sprained wrist from getting his bat stuck momentarily between Theo’s arms & broomstick. Benjy has a broken finger from Theo lobbing a Bludger at him which he blocked with his hand.

FINAL SCORES: Gryffindor with 110. Hufflepuff with 210. Hufflepuff wins! An unexpected upset for the Gryffindors.

The game was the perfect excuse. Nobody would expect a crowd to go to a game featuring Hufflepuff’s team. Most would have written it off, and that’s what they had done. That is exactly why Bellatrix Black, the Dark Lord’s Lieutenant, had called for a Death Eater meeting and Roman Wilkes had feigned sickness for the past two days. All so fifteen could gather, swathed in dark cloaks and glued to the shadows cast from the tall trees of the Forbidden Forest. There wasn’t a worry for the beasts that lurk in the woods or of being caught tonight. They were the most dangerous beasts there, after all, and they wouldn’t hesitate to obliviate the memories of any who wandered too close.

Fifteen formed a spacious circle in a large clearing of the woods. There are few curious glances and other more dangerous smirks; a couple almost buzzing with excitement. None knew why they were there. None except for Bellatrix.

Bellatrix who wore a twisted smile, her hand affectionately landing on Regulus’ shoulder as she gives an appraising look to each and every one of them. She stares down her nose at them. Two who had recently earned her warped approval for taking part in the death of Xenophilius while others had more work to been done. Now. She was done waiting and, apparently, so was their Lord. Letting go of her cousin’s shoulder, she steps into the middle of the circle and kicks at the black sack carelessly tossed there by herself earlier. Something lets out a low moan when she does. It causes another riotous smirk to briefly flash across her lips before she lets her arms spread out wide, palms up to the sky.

���Here we are. All gathered.” She looks at each of them again. Her eyes stop on Damon’s. “The time has come for action. Our Lord has told me of his plans and those plans include Hogwarts.” She snaps her head towards the direction of the castle. “The castle is theirs. He wants it to be his.” She snaps her head back towards Alecto this time, “So it will be his.” She moves towards Snape, her pointed nails curling and practically digging into the back of his neck. “Which means no more wavering sympathies or hesitation to act. You will act,” she turns to look at Walden behind her as her nails still dig, tearing at Severus’ skin. “He wants chaos. He wants distractions. He wants more blood as he makes his move towards the castle. Got it.” It wasn’t a question. It was a demand. Each of them would deliver or there would be severe consequences. The Dark Lord didn’t tolerate disobedience.

Letting go of Snape, she makes her way back towards the black sack and curls her fingers in a motion that signals for Rabastan to join her at her side. He wraps his hand around the opening of the sack as he does. Bellatrix gives one final unpleasant look at the lot. “Let Hogwarts know what devotion looks like. Let them think they know what true terror feels like until the moment our Lord arrives.” With that, she walks deeper into the forest. Rabastan three steps behind as he drags the sack through the dirt and over roots and stones that stir more whimpers of pain.

MIDNIGHT OCTOBER 11TH-30TH.

A Forbidden Forest half the world away grows silent, members disperse to begin the next step. Create fear. Create unrestrained destruction. Now isn’t the time for child’s play, but for boys to become men as they fulfill the Dark Lord’s simple request.

The walls will quake with this one sacred truth: the Dark Lord has let his bloodhounds loose.

There’s certainly been much unrest for the students — angry, sad, many emotions yet the castle seems to keep moving on. But will the students? Hufflepuff triumphed over Gryffindor at the Quidditch game surprisingly and in the midst of this game, the Death Eaters have all been given an important task to do. Will the Order simply sit back and let this happen — or will they begin to step up and refuse to let the chaos happen? We’ll have to see.

HEADCANON 002: ALEC’S WARDROBE & WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT HIM.

Alec’s cardinal / go-to colors are blue and black, generally. He wears a near-even, daily amount of both. However, he will occasionally be seen in other shades like; deep maroons/reds or dark green tones as well as grays. Each color holds it’s own specific meaning and can reflect his mood and personality. Below, I’ll explain each and how they apply to Alec (I’m not sure if this is intentional on the show by the wardrobe stylists but I like to believe it could be?) Most Shadowhunters are seen in black clothes and gear usually. Aside from it being sleek and sexy it’s also probably a means to remain hidden or “in the shadows.” But, we often see Jace, Clary, and Izzy in more bold colors that are fitting to their personalities. Alec’s tones are definitely darker and muted. It’s unlikely that you’ll ever see him in lighter/flashier colors or patterns. (With the exception of the world inverted verse where his personality is altered).

It’s worth noting that a person’s choice of color on any given day is often a form of non verbal communication. It says a lot more than you’d think it does about the person, their energy and their overall moods when they wear said color. It’s an outward reflection of them.

BLACK is the color of the hidden, the secretive, and the unknown. It creates an air of mystery and enigma. It’s darkness shields what’s on the inside and helps keep things bottled up and hidden from the outside world. In color psychology, black gives off a sense of protection from external emotional stress. It creates a barrier between itself and the outside world, providing comfort and protection of its emotions and feelings, while hiding it’s vulnerabilities, insecurities, and lack of self confidence. It’s the absorption of color and absence of light. What black covers, it’s contrast color; white, uncovers. (Alec’s seen in a lot of black throughout the beginning of Season 1 which is fitting for his character based on the fact that he was heavily guarded at the time and hiding his feelings for Jace, along with his overall sexuality. But then once he met Magnus and was encouraged to follow his heart, more colors came into play in his wardrobe.) 

BLUE is the color of trust and peace. It suggests loyalty and integrity as well as conversatism and frigidity. From a color psychology perspective, blue is considered reliable and responsible. And also exhibits an inner security and confidence. You can rely on it to take control and do the right thing in difficult times. It has a need for order and direction in it’s life, including living and work spaces. This color seeks peace and tranquility above everything else, promoting physical and mental relaxation. It’s often used to inspire focus and drive. (I mean, I’m sure I don’t even need to explain this one? It’s description alone is the epitome of Alec’s existence and the way he operates. Especially in his professional life where he’s loyal, integral, and responsible. Or so, feels responsible for a lot of things. He’s a leader and blue’s a dominant, leading color.)

GRAY is an unemotional, indistinguishable color. It’s detached, neutral, impartial, and indecisive, the fence-sitter. A bridge between light and dark, the medium between the two. It’s the color of compromise, being neither black nor white but a mixture of the two. The closer gray gets to black, the more dramatic and mysterious it becomes. While, the closer it gets to white, the more illuminating and lively it becomes. Being both motionless and emotionless, gray is solid and stable, creating a sense of calm and composure, and relief from a chaotic world. It’s subdued, quiet, and reserved. It does not stimulate, energize, rejuvenate or excite. (This one’s pretty self explanatory. It’s that battle between light and dark that everyone has. I would say his gray tones are more dominantly on the black/darker side so it’s natural air of mystery still remains.)

GREEN is the color that relates to balance and harmony. From a psychology perspective, it is the greater balance of the heart and the emotions, creating an equilibrium between the head and the heart. It’s also the color of growth, spring, renewal and rebirth. It renews and restores depleted energy. It’s generally an emotionally positive color and gives us the ability to love and nurture ourselves and others unconditionally. It’s a natural peacemaker but must avoid it’s tendency to become the martyr. (Another self explanatory one. This is also another close description of Alec with the whole head vs. heart balance.)

RED/MAROON is a warm and positive color like green and is associated with our most physical needs and will to survive. It exudes a strong and powerful masculine energy. Red is energizing and excites our emotions and motivates us to take action. (It’s also the color that provokes ravenous hunger.) It signifies a pioneering spirit and leadership qualities, and promotes ambition and determination. It’s also strong-willed and can give confidence to those who are shy or lacking in will power. The color red awakens our physical life force (it’s the color of our blood! How fitting!). It’s also the color of sexuality and can stimulate deeper, more intimate passions in us. Such as; love and sex on the positive side and revenge, anger and hate on the other. (Alec was seen in season 2 when he woke up in Magnus’ bed in red silk sheets, and then proceeded to put on a maroon shirt as he emerged to find a distracted Magnus missing from his side. He wears or is seen close to this color when passion, both positive and negative, need or are already, amplified.)

 ** It’s also worth nothing that Alec added more #COLOR# into his wardrobe after meeting Magnus. Coincidence? I think not. Magnus brings out emotions in Alec and as a result, his wardrobe changes to reflect those moods. # blesssss

       when  the  walls  had  trembled,  a  familiar  dread  rolled  against  her  chest.  hand  balled  into  fist  as  the  lights  flicker  --  her  brown  eyes  tore  wide  open,  looking  for  a  CRACK,  for  the  crumble.  but  it  had  settled  too  easily,  too  quietly.  she  wants  to  go  to  the  radio,  call  hopper  and  let  him  know  SOMETHING  was  here.  but  at  once,  she  wasn’t  afraid,  no.  she  could  protect  herself,  even  if  he  thought  she  needed  help.  she  peaks  out  from  the  windows.  rule  one :  keep  the  blinds  closed.  she  sees  something  BLUE  --  BIG  in  the  distance,  like  a  long  square.  a  door  opens,  and  a  man  gets  out.  in  fright,  she  lets  the  blinds  fall  loudly  against  the  window’s  glass.  not  stupid.  but  she  almost  wants  to  prove  to  herself  that  this  wasn’t  a  THING.  hand  hovers  before  the  door  knob,  she  flies  the  locks  off  the  door  with  her  eyes.  

she  watches  the  MAN  travel  closer . . .  maybe  he  needed  help,  even  if  he  looked  okay.  but  eleven  notices  he’s  traversing  very  closely  to  the  tripwire.  something  in  her  says  he  might  just  be  lost,  and  she  knows  how  that  feels.  she  doesn’t  want  him  to  get  hurt.  swinging  open  the  door,  she  makes  a  snap  decision,  “ wait !  there’s  the  tri- trippy  wire ! ”
