10 Anti LO Asks
1. Persephone hasn’t finished a semester of school-wants to apply to law school. Makes sense right? Haha.
2. WHY is cerberus so generic?? and he's not even a greek breed (or any of the other dogs)?? like was it really that hard to google some greek breeds? they have some big intimidating dogs too, but i guess thats asking too much in her GREEK MYTH comic. also he doesn't even have three heads most of the time? that's his one defining trait besides being scary and still rachel fucked that up. it's so annoying she can't even be bothered to keep basic things correct while still claiming to be an expert.
3. ngl im happy rachel cut out the erotes. just off her depiction of eros she still has very bad ideas about LGBT+ representation (seriously the gay best friend trope post 2013? with eros being obsessed with a woman and the only hint he's bi being a cut scene? wow) so her trying to cover the god of homosexual love, the god who was made via the love of two men, or the deity of intersex/being non gender conforming would be more than awful. they deserve to not be in this heterosexual mess.
4. webtoons promote anyone other than LO and give them the massive marketing campaigns, financial backing, and extra resources and deals RS gets challenge (Impossible)
5. tbh i dont think the height difference is particularly bad (ive shipped couples with even more of a difference) i think it's more the combination of how young she is (and how the comic keeps bringing up its weird but then being like ok now forget about it??), her childish personality ,and the overemphasis on hades' power and experience over her that it becomes an issue. if she was a confident, sexually liberated 700 year old goddess who knew her worth the height difference wouldnt matter, IMHO.
6. see the romance in LO is off because rachel cannot help but make HxP the most powerful, desired, amazing etc characters in the whole story, yet at the same time wants us to pity them and feel like he "deserves" they each other to be happy because she insists they're the "real underdogs" like??? neither LO H or P have any disadvantages, flaws, or conflicts to make them not be together so rachel insisting they're this tragic romance is just like no?? they're just not acting like normal people??
7. All this talk about Hera entering a relationship with Echo really shows how blind Rachel must be to problems in the ships she sets up. As some one mentioned earlier, it’s a rehash of a boss lusting over a worker. But like, Hera also pretty often talks about how lowly she think of nymphs. So not only would she be with a worker, but a worker from a race she actively believes is below her. If this was like a commentary on how Hera isn’t actually that different from Zeus then that’d actually be really interesting, but if she did this, it would only be to girlboss Hera. What a mess
8. i've seen some defenders say "oh there's only critique of LO now that it's popular" like?? no there were people calling it out when it was on discover and rachel was just some tumblr nobody. critique has only picked up more and more over the years because its just that more known and the issues are only getting worse and piling up, not some hate over popularity? im sure there is some critique over that but most of the critiques has been here for /years/, not only in the last few months.
9. ive actually seen some lo stans defend the age gap AS the modern aspect because "age gap relationships are more common now" which 1) no theyre not, and 2) what 19 year old is hooking up with a 2000+ year old man?? like MAYBE if he was actually 45 like he's "mentally" supposed to be then ok MAYBE they have a point, but he's not?? hes literally supposed to be thousands of years older than her in every regard? like literally the argument makes no sense??
10. I feel like Persephone being older would actually be a much stronger point to the story than her being 19/20, and not just bc of the weird age gap. She could still have the same characterization and plot, but it would be better to aide in her frustration of being sheltered/desire to be taken seriously as a goddess and want her freedom, and to actually hammer home demeter's controlling ways, because as it stands now she just looks like an overdramatic, spoiled child with no perspective.

I rarely do written posts in Tumblr anymore because I am still figuring out how this new UI works in general (and there might be still be some bugs about writing posts + leaving them on drafts + publishing them accidentally as well), and tbh, between the past two months have been sorta chaotic and very mentally draining (besides some work I have been doing) and me attempting to think around some of my few active fandoms... well, haven’t had an eureka moment where I sit and write what I think about stuff.
So, let’s talk about some “stuff”.
Some days ago, I accidentally noticed by PURE CHANCE that some of the completed webtoons I was going to “eventually read” in LINE were going to get “locked”/converted for Daily Pass. I mean, tbf, I knew that they were going to stick to this plan since past October, but it seems they really went full force this month (they only “locked” like a couple of series back then). And it’s exactly how I thought they would do so - popular series that have been already completed, old and recent.
I’m not going to complain about “Daily Pass” because I do have some thoughts about that and the fact they could use another model than just readers farming/buying coins, but, what do you do, especially since lots of these series are PRETTY long (140+ chapters long)?
My complaint does come from that, as a web user, I found this by pure chance, despite them saying they would announce what series would be locked in a 30-day advance notice. Because there’s no apparent indicator in the main page about THIS (The only Notice/News detail you see down below the page is about Canvas creators). Heck, I don’t think they even tell you about it in their mail newsletter, which kinda suck :))).
So, anyway.
I checked and, yes, a couple of VERY old series I was interested in reading were/are going to get locked. Problem, like I mentioned? THEY are pretty long! I know I can binge read as much as I want, but I cannot make miracles like reading over 100 chapters (if one series, try thinking about 2 or 3 - I WAS NOT GOING TO DO THIS) in less than 12 hours! ESPECIALLY if those series were going to get locked THIS WEEK.
FML.
...anyway crisis was averted when I had to let go some interesting series that I may would get my way to read them (if there is a new buying/rental model they would apply) in the future... BUT I did read stuff I was curious or wanted to read... and mainly old stuff that I was willing to eventually finish one day.
Opinions on those series?
Okay, as brief and spoiler free as possible:
Untouchable: A story about modern-day vampires that instead of drinking blood, they have evolved to absorb the energy of their preys. This one is a romantic series about Sia, a vampire model and this human guy who has a very deep microphobia, and she puts her eyes on him when she realizes that his energy is like none she has tasted before. But, again, dude has microphobia (that is more or less controlled as time goes on).
I stopped reading this one for a while because I was sorta smelling love triangle from a jealous friend of hers that OBVIOUSLY didn’t want to be looked as “just a friend”, lol. Like “how would this get solved”, kind of thing in your typical romance stuff. But then, last week I retook it... and it wasn’t as bad... but it leaks typical shoujo stuff/problems that become a newer obstacle as time goes on and on (misscomunication, lack of trust, overprotective family ANNOYINGLY hurting their own offspring, sudden deux ex machina...?). So, I think it finished fine... But man, I was so pissed off in how some stuff was managed at the end, lmao. Especially the way a “villain” was redeemed? I know that they say “karma is a b*tch”, but, DUDE KILLED PEOPLE BEFORE!? and you redeem him in a “lol, you will find out how love will make you feel” LIKe, DUDE, WHAT THE HELL. DON’T REDEEM HIM LIKE THAT.
Ghost Wife: I started reading this series in an unofficial manner a long while ago, but I supposed that the first chapters are pretty slow and it didn’t catch me on in the first place. It’s about a girl that starts seeing ghosts/spirits, and there’s this one that becomes WAY too attached to her, that offers her two options: either been eaten/killed or agreeing to be his wife. Given the title of thise series, you might wonder she accepted the second one
My lesson? Should have kept reading. The story picks up when other ghostly creatures are introduced and they start interacting with the main female character and her “ghost husband”, especially since this ghost cannot really imitate human interaction and his solution is “hypnotizing” everyone so he can “normally” fit. And the interaction between those two becomes more gracious and natural. You can feel that she likes being with him, despite the dangers of attracting ghosts that might kill her and all that. Heh.
Other lesson I had is that: the artist isn’t EXACTLY well into action scenes and some other details (but their ghostly creatures’ designs are TERRIFYING), so, I thought “well, I know there are other artists like this in the webcomic/webtoon environment, I shouldnt be too worried about my art once I get done with mine, right?
Also, some details started to make sense later on. And I cried like a baby in some moments, as well. Don’t have too many complaints, though. Perhaps more obvious “falling in love” moments... but then I realized that some actions speak lots better than words.
About Death: And speaking of “crying like a baby”, this one. This is a very old work, and it’s a gem, and it’s short, to top! And HECK, the art was AMAZING. Very touchy, and it makes you think. There’s quite a lot of South Korean webtoons that have made me cry because... they really make you think a LOT about stuff... especially about life and death.
Oh! Holy: Story about a shy and lonely loveable dork that is in love of his childhood friend, and that they eventually find each other in high school. Said childhood friend is idolized in school (but she is... hmmm... a dork as, well). Oh, he sees ghosts. OH, and she dies within the first three chapters accidentally :3. Shenanigans happen.
I HAD A LOT OF FUN WITH THIS ONE. SURE, it’s another shoujo but WAY less dramatic than Untouchable, because this was comedy (so, a rom-com!). And this one made me want more and more to read it. The characters all had an amazing personality, chemistry and their interactions were FUN AS HELL. The author seems to have my my sense of (dumb) humor, and the art was too attractive and knew where it should bright.
I don’t think I have too many complaints about this one. I may have felt unsatisfied in some minor stuff, but everything else felt “okay” to me, in general.
A couple of things, though: localization and some quality stuff relating to translation in this series. I cannot judge the translation, but I do think it could have handled more quality checking on this one or proofreading, I’m not sure. I know that these (licensed and translated) series come in a weekly basis, but they REALLY need to pay more $$$ to their own staff to not let this stuff happen THAT frequent.
Localization is a bit of an issue I do HAVE though, and it is the same as in “Ghost Wife” and some other recent Korean series they have licensed in the recent past: Why using English-localized names, though? SURE, they retain their original last Korean names... but... why don’t keep their FULL NAMES, I wonder? I mean, weren’t we supposed to be over that kind of stuff already (videogames, JPN anime, manga other foregin stuff)? Is it because marketability? And/or because some names are “puns” that couldn’t easily be translateable in other languages?
If it’s the latter, I think the same is applied in other regional language localization, like, in Spanish, original English language “Axed” is called “Natacha la del Hacha” and you cannot wonder how it crawls over my skin. I know this series is BUILT ON and is full of puns (as I am following it)... but... “Axelia” is a much more cooler name than “Natacha”... :I or so I THINK? Don’t take me too seriously...
In “Ghost Wife” I get it, you have spiritual creatures... their “human” names are puns of what they really are, and these words MAYBE don’t have too much meaning in English or Spanish or whatever... but... its a bit... glaring... when the main cast has English first names... and then you have a side character called... I dunno, “Soyeon” :I. or Haetae (a creature that didn’t have a human character name...) or, heck, characters that never appear again like... there was this “Damien” dude that for some reason, his name is slipped a couple of times as “Suho” (I wonder, his original name). But, then, you have people named “Liz”, “Drake”, “Sarah”, “Nathan” ????
I suppose that in “Oh! Holy” that might be the case, too. The original Korean name of the series is “오!주예수여” that is translated as “Oh! Lord Jesus”, because Holy in Korean is named “Yesu”. And, *sigh* I think that says enough. The pun STILL works... but :’))
But at the same time, I think my thing with the English localized names in “Oh! Holy” is that they are... blatantly boring and I don’t think they fit their faces. At all. But, maybe that’s me? (I mean, the “ultimate” reaper is called Norman. NORMAN.) Like I said, they still keep their original Korean last names... but... ugh.
(this is coming from someone who gave two of her characters very not obvious Spanish names given that they are Mexican, but I do have some valid cultural and VERY obvious explanations about those...)
Also - I don’t get LINE Webtoon’s selectiveness in this localization decision. Some of the South Korean series they bring, they do KEEP their original full names (see “A Good Day to be a Dog”, “Ghost Teller”, heck, the afforementioned “Untouchable”), but then you have stuff like “Oh! Holy”, “Ghost Wife”, “Scorching Romance”, “Mom, I’m Sorry!” or “Lookism”... ?????
And, this is very blatant annoying because a) K-Pop is HUGELY global mainstream nowadays and you can hear/read fans screaming their NAMES?! And 2) K-dramas are also pretty popular these days???
??????
*LONG SIGH*
There’s a few series that I want to check out, but I still have some more days for that to happen (heck, even a bit of more than a week). But, it SURE DOES suck that most of the interesting series I had my eyes on all were going to get locked this WEEK. :))))

hello !!! i'm a bit late but i wanted to make sure that i got my intro out as soon as possible !! i don't have any cute nicknames or aliases, so you can just call me payton ( she/her ) ! pst timezone, big 'ol weeb and bts/girl group enthusiast . truthfully, i haven't written on tumblr in quite some time so i'm a little nervous... my writing isn't the greatest, but i can guarantee that i'll put in a ton of effort and what i lack in skill i'll make up for in enthusiasm and adoration for your muses asjdgdkjfhd but enough about me ! are you guys ready for the cutest girl in the world ??? this here is my happy pill jane ! 19 years old, born and raised in yongsa . i haven't finished writing up a proper bio for her yet, but you can find the most basic information here. under the cut i'll be leaving a few details to help you get an idea of what she's like, as well as a few wanted connections for anyone that's interested ! of course my inbox is always open to plotting, as well as my discord ( just ask if you don't have it already )
info !!
this girl has no tragic backstory !!! i don't do very well with angst bc *twt vc*im baby and i also felt like a character like jane wouldn't really.. have ?? a sad past? i just couldn't picture her personality being the way that it is if she'd gone through something sad or traumatic growing up.
as i mentioned before she was born and raised in yongsa! her parents own a small but relatively popular bakery in the outskirts of town, so they weren't wealthy but they definitely made enough for the family to live comfortably.
she's an only child. very coddled and very loved. definitely plays a big role in how she turned out so energetic and positive even when she got older.
she's in a band !!! she started the band in no hurry with her friends in her first year of high school after spontaneously deciding to pick up the guitar in middle school. nothing too intense or heavy, just music that jane and her bandmates have fun making and performing. she's the guitarist and vocalist.
that being said, she can almost always be seen carrying around or playing her guitar. that's her baby.
super positivity energy love blast !!! . . . or . . . something like that ? she's just. a ball of neverending optimism and energy. tbh it's probably more exhausting for the people around jane than it is for herself. good luck
likes just about anything and has practically zero dislikes unless they're food related or just. people being mean for no reason.
very honest and straightforward. often fails to read the mood and will say things that don't need to be said. please do not rely on her to back you up on a lie, especially on the spot. she cannot do it. she will fail you.
weeb. likes to watch anime, read manga, play video games. she especially likes romance and fantasy genres, but tends to be drawn to just about anything that has cute or attractive characters in it.
very sensitive. very. she feels her emotions very intensely regardless of what they are. she has a hard time showing this side of herself to others, and especially around those that she's close to, as she feels that her energy and positive attitude are her best way of encouraging and being there for her friends. when upset, the feeling usually doesn't last very long and she's able to get over it quickly, with the only exception being if she feels especially hurt by something.
i . . . am not sure what else to put here honestly ajsdfhnkd feel free to message me if you have any specific questions!
wanted plots !!
the best friend. could be a childhood friend, or just someone she grew closer to over time. this person is closest to jane and knows her better than anyone else. could work with multiple people as well; i'm all for a best friend group !!
the unlikely pair. jane and this person are complete opposites, and yet somehow they've managed to become friends ( let's be honest, jane probably just followed them around and bugged them until they eventually caved and warmed up to her asjdhndfh ). many people don't understand how the two of them get along so well, but jane considers them a very close and dear friend .
#1 die-fan. pretty self-explanatory. this person knows of and actively supports jane's band, going to as many live performances as possible and cheering her on. whether they're just a fan of the music, or if it's because they're close to jane herself doesn't really matter -- their constant support means the world to her.
the first love. hehe, i had to include this one. jane, despite being the type to romanticize just about anything, has no actual experience with romance. all that she knows of it is what she's seen in dramas and anime, read in manga and webtoons. surprisingly, the thought of falling love, or having someone fall in love with her, has never really crossed her mind. that's why, when she falls for this person, she's a complete mess about it. painfully obvious, probably, always trying to impress them and get their attention even if her methods come across as ridiculous. cute pining. could or could not be requited, completely up to you.
the guardian. to put it simply, jane's personality worries them. they're very aware of how ditzy, forgetful and clumsy she can be. through some way or another, they find themselves taking care of her and giving her advice. she's a handful, and this person will often remind her of this, but her positivity and gratitude are endearing, so they don't exactly hate it.
keep it down !! sometimes when jane can't make it out to the studio to practice, or when she gets a sudden spark of inspiration, jane will just practice her guitar and singing at home. the only problem is that she can be a bit . . . noisy when doing so. this person in particular is especially bothered by it. no matter how many times they've come to complain, and no matter how many times jane tries to laugh it off and apologize, it just seems to keep happening . . .
#yj:intro#( ooc. )#( i tend to ramble i apologize asjdfhnkdfh )#( pls love jane she is a good person !!! )

sorry you have weirdos in your inbox who keep talking about triggering topics for you, syrup
@ the people who keep bothering syrup: leave syrup alone! if someone tells you, "i don't want to talk about this subject. it's very triggering for me." then out of respect, you should drop the subject. you aren't gonna change anyone's mind by pestering someone who isn't interested in hearing your arguments, anyway.
sorry about all that. btw, i read what you said about your idea about the sanctuary for the useless and i think it sounds pretty cool so far! it would be amusing to see the objects interacting with each other, and sounds like it's going to be suspenseful once they start working towards getting to the sanctuary ^^
tumblr or deviantart could be good places to publish your comic, like you said before. but also, i think webtoon would let you upload it for people to read there too, if you're looking for other suggestions.
don't worry, it wasn't that many people bothering me, just enough to stress me out, i took a nap and haven't gotten any other weirdos since then. thank you for defending me though. <3
and yeah! I was hoping for something like that with the comic. something like a silly and light hearted beginning that turns more dark/suspensful as the comic progresses. it'd definitely be a more interesting series to make, my only problem is my motivation and energy seems to drain faster if I'm making comics rather than one panel images.
and ooooh i've never even read anything on webtoon, but I'll keep note of that. I actually had the idea of it being maybe like, a story ask blog? Where the blog has a story that slowly progresses as people send anons and aks to the characters to help the story progress or something, but idk yet tbh.

i want start a new drama, im thinking about my id is gangnam beauty (i read the synopsis but didn't find that interesting tbh it seems a little silly) and the other one is your house helper. based on your opinion which one should i start? and btw i really love your tumblr :)
thank you for liking my tumblr :) ♡
your house helper focuses on more than one charecter and each charecter have their own story. Its really a heartwarming drama. it doesn’t only focus on relationships, they tackled alot of issues such as lgbt, gender stereotypes, sexual harassment and pstd. my two problems with it is the lack of chemistry between the two leads and the lack of developments on some parts.
and as for my id is Gangnam Beauty, it focuses on the charecter mirae and her struggles into loving herself and accepting herself, the synopsis may seem silly but the drama is dark and heavy. I think the reason why the webtoon is really popular in korea is because it shows lookism, misogyny and beauty standards which is something alot of women struggle with. I like that they are showing her internal struggles, she didn’t do plastic surgery to get a boyfriend or to fall in love like the synopsis implies she just wanted to be accepted and for people to stop harassing her. I can’t wait to see her grow as a charecter.
I think both dramas are great on their own ways. it depends on what you like.

ok so last night i read this webtoon called sometimes more like always which i found through IG lol and i went in w such low expectations that every decent writing thing it ended up doing literally BLEW ME AWAY. it’s almost like how i felt when i read the manhwa that summer for the first time which is seriously good and ppl should read it
but i also want to say that by no means does that mean that this is an extremely well-written comic. it’s an amateur comic and when you read something that’s published on a site like smackjeeves/webtoon/tapas/sometimes tumblr (i mention tumblr since i have read comics through it but there’s really only like 3 comics i’ve ever read through tumblr) you need to have very low expectations going in or else you will always be disappointed. like more high-end/official sites like lezhin and bomtoon i think you can have higher expectations for but the three i mentioned previously are for ppl who tend to be doing it as like a very low-key hobby (and it’s different from ppl who have actual specific sites for their comic like paranatural) ... although i do think this comic is pretty good for what it is, i think they write/reveal their plot points well specifically they do a good job w foreshadowing and having backstories/explanations that actually make sense based on what info you have of the characters at the time
some of the dialogue is pretty amusing and i like it but there’s also some dialogue that’s like this-is-the-shit-i’d-write-in-middle-school or where i’m like ‘... i don’t think this is how it works/i don’t think guys talk like this’ which is like natural i guess based on the fact that apparently this is the authors’ first BL comic and what i know of the authors through that one side ep where they introduced themselves (i.e. don’t identify as male). the reason i note gender is bc i don’t identify as male and i think that really affects how /i/ write dialogue bw guys ... my early stories w mostly male characters had absolutely horrendous dialogue and while i don’t think i’m that much better today tbh but oof
i’m assuming it’s (at least) partly inspired by korean manhwas bc 2 of the mains are korean and have full korean names which i don’t necessarily have a problem w but i’m not 100% sure if the authors are white or poc and while i do believe that you don’t necessarily have to be a certain ethnicity/race to write a character well i’m always like ‘eh’ for white ppl writing poc characters.
i’m interested in xiao jian and silas’s story bc 1. you know i love side pairings more than the main 2. they’re friends to enemies (and eventually back to friends and then to lovers ya know) and i fucking love tropes like that so and 3. i like how they look together lmao. the main pairing is ok, i do like them individually as characters but i don’t think their relationship being developed that well so every time their relationship is the focus i’m like ‘ok chop chop let’s get back to xiao jian and/or silas’.
the latest update was really interesting though, i felt so bad for xiao jian’s crush getting outed but now i have a stronger theory for why silas hates xiao jian (i was afraid they were gonna do the homophobic route when silas was like ‘he’s not as innocent as you think’ to goeun (i literally had to search that up. i’m really bad at remembering korean names) and i was like ‘oh no they’re gonna make him homophobic’ but thankfully they’re not going that route. while it does happen irl i feel like it’s very overused in stories and i think it’s more interesting to do other conflicts) which is that silas was going out w someone previously and xiao jian (being his normal nice and polite self -- which was FORESHADOWED through mentions of how women seem to like how polite he is) was nice to the SO and so the SO broke up w silas bc they liked xiao jian. there are some flaws in this theory bc like for instance damn silas must’ve been a real asshole for the SO to drop him like that but i really think that’s where it’s going esp when silas was like ‘you have the NERVE to have a crush on me after what you did’ so it has to be abt a relationship or something.
ok EDIT: i just reread the confrontation scene and my SO theory has less juice bc the dialogue doesn’t necessarily point towards an ex like i thought it did when i was reading it sleep-deprived and is more so silas being like ‘how can you like me when you know i hate you’ ... still think it has something to do w xiao jian being polite to someone and it somehow backfiring on silas but now i’m less sure
the art style is really nice ! looking forward to seeing the art improve more as the comic goes on bc that’s how all comics work (which is why i always think abt doing a comic of my own fr bc 1. i really do want to do a comic fr and 2. art improvement happens w/o fail and i need that)
anyway long story short it’s a cute comic! the writing is a little on the weaker side i feel but it’s pretty good compared to other amateur comics and i’m excited to see how the story develops!
#no but seriously ... it's not a BAD comic per se but i was seriously hyping up how good this comic was when i was reading it sleep-deprived#at like 2am last night#which is why i took the time to write up a really long thing for it#sometimes more like always#reading

I rarely write about (Korean) webtoons, but I kinda wanted to write about this one even if it’s about some short thoughts because... I REALLY shouldn’t give them a binge read in 2 days or something like that.
I finally went to read “Orange Marmalade” by Seok Woo and I’m “hmmmmmm” about it as a whole.
I understand, it’s a bit cheesy. A cheesy high school romance which also touches the whole oppresion topic because the main female character (Mari) is a vampire.
Cannot stop comparing to what the author went to do later (HanaHaru/ Days of Hana) because it treats similar themes and I KINDA want to say OM is more like a proto-storytelling version of what he (?) eventually did in HanaHaru.
Both are a romance drama story with a supernatural touch although the latter ended up in a more tragic note than the former :I. I was expecting OM being a bit more tragic than it was... because HanaHaru really spoiled me in that point, hah... hah.
But, that didn’t stop me from reading it because I wanted to know what the deal was with it. That’s why I came to that conclusion “so, this pretty much is more of a prototype for what Seok Woo ended up doing in HanaHaru”, even though from another perspective in the same opression-kind of root.
I will say this, from the 2nd part onwards it gets a nice development boost, the first was REALLY slow in development although understandable if you are in the feet of Baek Mari (the female MC) because she is a vampire and the way she acts so distant is because she REALLY doesn’t want to get involved with humans because she has suffered from discriminative agressions in the past (that made her and her whole family move because they would become a perfect attacking target).
It’s when she starts giving herself this opportunity to have friends and a boyfriend that she realizes she wants to live as normal as possible as any human... excepts she knows that just the slight reveal that she is a vampire, her entire friend circle would crumble around her because they have this entire prejudice about vampires = monsters and... WELL. You know.
The world might change little by little, she thinks and hopes. Probably. Especially when a famous singer comes out as one, and the opinions about her seem divisive at best. Except that the prejudice is soooo impregnated within people around Mari that it makes her doubt about what will happen if she comes out as a vampire publicly.
...especially with her boyfriend, Jung Jaemin. A guy who has been catalogued as a “mysoginist” (lmao, what) by his peers just because he wants to avoid contact with girls... except Mari, who was initially attracted to him because his blood is “very sweet”. Also, has a complicated relationship with his mother because of stuff that happened in the past (that are later revealed to be related to the fact that she ended up marrying an old flame who happened to be a vampire, so he suffered abuse from his biological dad’s family DUE to this fact alone. GEEZ.)
Don’t let me start with how I was bothered with some typical shoujo-like clichés, even if the development kinda twisted them around. There was also some unnecessary drama that I could be fine without it, just to make some characters’ background deeper than they were, or just for the sake of making more problems come by... I guess?
For example, by the last arc of the series, it was already revealed that Mari was a vampire in front of all the school. And all of this not coming from the alpha-b*tch that Jo Ara has been for an enormous portion of the series, oh, no - it was from a very, VERY salty and childish kneejerk reaction from a girl who happened to be Han Sihoo’s “girlfriend” and who was extremely friendly with her when she was introduced. Like, LMAO? And the worst part? It’s because this jerk told her “lol, no, I only see you as a thing/prey because you are only a human and I MAY have fallen in love with Mari and I MAY be marrying her”, so “YEAH, let’s reveal to the entire school that you are IN fact the vampire because you robbed my boyfriend, so I WANT YOU BOTH AND YOUR ENTIRE SPECIES ANNIHILATED???” WHAT THE HELL. That’s... very childish of you??? You both have been very friendly with each other... and just because the jerk was a jerk... you turned against her back? WOW, how petty of YOU.
And the weird part of this, becasue the author never touched it? It looks like both this girl and Sihoo reconcile by the end of the series...? Huh? At leat, in my head I’m like... “maybe they got things right... but oh, boy, what the hell happened right before it...”
Hmm... yeah... It was a nice read, and all that in general... it could have been better, I guess... and I suppose the execution in this series’ plot might have been improved in HanaHaru (despite all the tragic trips it went for... I am like, “well, at least no one dies in OM... because in HH... WELL”
I know by the fact that there’s a drama adaptation (from 2015) and the responses are very... mixed. From what I’m seeing in the tag... I’m kinda “:/c” because it looks (and feels) quite different from the webtoon. Not like my expectations were high, tbh... really put more emphasis in a love triangle which was... not really a LOVE triangle in the webtoon? Sihoo is a JERK in the webtoon, he mellows to Mari way later when she emphasizes to him that she REALLY wants to see the world around them (vampires) to change but his views are not helping at all (dunno what to say about readers who wanted those two be together either...?). Also, what I’m seeing about a sudden flashback arc to the past...? What? Lol.
Ahhh... (a bit offtopic) I’m not really looking forward what might happen in other drama adaptation series that are announced for the next two years like Favorite Part or a Good Day to be a Dog, in all honesty (even more in the latter due to the supernatural topics it has)... *suddenly worried, and expectations from lower go even lower... Like, SURE, OM was released less than 5 years ago, and other adaptations may have been... uhm... better than OM was, I guess, like My ID is Gangnam Beauty (or worst? like, Possession was a mess and a half...)
ALSO, an hilarious extra point - looking back when LINE Webtoon was just starting (so, around 2015?, they still have been using their official tumblr account) in the tags is hilarious as hell, because they REALLY spoil an important point in the series which wasn’t revealed until... ch 80-something, LMAO. I DUNNO if this was actually taking approach of the fact the drama was airing and/or it might have revealed in the drama earlier... but... GUYS???? I MEAN, SERIOUSLY????
