Bit of a random post, but…
The name Ben came up with as a child is "Kylo". If I had to guess, his train of thought was:
Skywalker + Solo = Kylo
I genuinely love that The Rise of Kylo Ren hints that it's not some eldritch moniker but just a "cool name" that a kid came up with. Like, this is probably how JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan came up with the name, and years later: boom, it becomes lore that's tailored to the character's personality. Pretty neat.
#Charles Soule is my favorite writer for the new Canon so far#ALSO while we're on the subject of how names are invented#if we ever get a Deadpool-esque character in Star Wars who comedically breaks the fourth wall...#... they NEED to make fun of the Sith titles!#Like in the middle of a battle Vader arrives to back up the stormtroopers and the character points and goes:#“OH NO! It's Darth Vader the invader! Run before they bring out Darth Maul to maul us to death!”#*Vader lands in a puddle* “aHA! Darth Vader landed in dark waters!”#“hopefully Darth Vader is nobody's dark father!”#He gets captured and brought before the Emperor:#“Oh hello Darth Sidious how... Insidious you seem!”#He learns that the Emperor's master is Plagueis:#“Right! Because he worked with science and micro-organisms and plagues and stuff! I get it!”#Then learns Plagueis' master was Darth Tenebrous and falls silent:#“Okay so THAT guy wasn't even TRYING to hide it huh?”#star wars#Ben Solo#Kylo Ren#Snoke

Failing to Thrive then Thriving in failure
I just had the funniest notion. Time travel comedy, but the twist is that Palpatine is the one to go back in time.
So we start just after Kenobi, Palpatine has been emperor for about a decade, he succeeded. The Sith plan is complete, he has everything he had dreamed of and worked toward for a decade…and he is so bored. He never realized that 90% of his joy actually came from pretending to be a benevolent Chancellor and the intrigue of fooling people. Now he has shown his true colors and could not go back to pretending (it simply would not work). Being the Sith in charge is not as fun as he thought it would be. Even getting to openly torture people has lost its appeal after 10 years.
It’s ok for Vader. For one Vader was never interested in those intrigues in the first place. For two 45% of Vader brain is taken up by trying to resurrect Padme Amidala, 50% is taken up by Obi Wan Kenobi (Palpatine is not sure if Vader wants to kill Kenobi, Kriff Kenobi, make Kenobi tuck Vader in every night and tell him is it going to be alright, Force Kenobi to help Vader resurrected Padme, or make sure Kenobi is eating, taking care of himself, and has a good enough blanket), leaving only 5% for everything else.
Frankly if this is what Kenobi had to deal with before the war, Palpatine is somewhat impressed he got anything done.
Vader isn’t bored. Palpatine’s assorted lesser minions are not bored, they are living the dream of being as bigoted as their little fascist hearts desire. But Palpatine just could not find joy any longer.
I do want it clear. Palpatine is not repentant. He does not regret the deaths that he caused, the genocide, the enslavement, any of it. He’s just bored.
One day Palpatine finds a book, or maybe an artifact, or possibly a scrap of paper with an archaic formula. The title roughly translates to ‘Sith Master Time Travel’ (Listen The Son was also very bored, and being outside of Space Time meant He wanted to see what would happen). Palpatine is able to time travel, but only as far back as when he became a Sith Master. It was also a one time deal, he would not be able to use the method again AND it would destroy his origin timeline (not that that actually factored into Palpatine’s decision at all). Not to mention he would essentially be possessing and killing his previous, alternate timeline self.
Of course Palpatine time travels. He goes all the way back to the moment he became the Sith Master (it turns out the Sith titles are not just titles), looking at the still warm corpse of Hugo Damask, just as the Naboo crisis is wrapping up.
Now Palpatine had already decided to do some things differently. At first he was still working outward the Grand Sith Plan, if trying to keep his ‘Kindly Politician’ mask a bit longer, however he has decided that instead of Vader (or possibly in addition to Vader, if things get boring again) he will get Obi Wan Kenobi as his apprentice, figuring that there must have been a reason that every Sith Apprentice for 20 years ends up obsessed with the man (also because he thinks it would be funny to corrupt the Jedi’s ‘Guiding Light’). Dooku and all the pieces needed to start the Clone wars are already mostly in place. It is just a matter of maintaining until the clones are the right age. So he does what he needs to to maintain the Empire building plans and decides to focus on corrupting Obi Wan.
He fails, utterly. He fails so fully that Obi Wan did not even notice his attempts at corruption. Like he knew it would take time to corrupt a Jedi, he had done before after all, but he still expected at least a little change within the first year. There was nothing.
And it was not a case of Obi Wan not trusting Palpatine. This is still a decade before the war. Obi Wan is a grieving, freshly knighted, trying to keep up with a nine year old with somewhat unique trauma. Palpatine knows how to get Obi Wan to feel comfortable and trust him (Palpatine probably knows too well how to get Obi wan to feel comfortable and trust him, between Dooku and Vader). Obi Wan is just, for a given value, incorruptible.
Now Palpatine’s obsession switch has been flipped. He went into it thinking that corrupting Obi Wan would be a fun side project, a way to pass the time. He was wrong. He knows from the previous timeline that torture would not be effective (Listen if the torture mask specifically built to corrupt lightsiders did not make a dent after a month it is pretty well proven that torture will not cause Kenobi to fall, Palpatine knows this) nor would killing Kenobi’s loved work (again, if it didn’t last time we have some pretty concrete proof).
So now we have Palpatine trying every method he can think of to seduce Kenobi the darkside, always just shy of admitting to being a Sith or being creepy. To the point that he has actually forgotten the Empire building he was doing. He kind of even forgets to be Sidious. He almost ghosts Dooku, before he remembers that Dooku is Kenobi’s grandfather(that is not the correct term, Dooku tries to correct Palpatine an even dozen times before giving up) and gets Dooku involved in the corruption that is STILL. GOING. NOWHERE.
Dooku basically becomes Grandpa Dooku to both Obi Wan and Anakin, and falls back into the Light while trying unsuccessfully to corrupt Obi Wan to the Dark. Due to darkside vow complications (also because I think it would be really funny) Dooku is not able to say, imply, or otherwise do anything to make the Jedi suspicious that Palaptine is a Sith. Also, to a certain extent he thinks that as long as Palpatine is focused on corrupting his incorruptible grandson, the other Sith is not thinking about galactic domination (To be fair he is correct).
Palpatine spends most of his time trying to corrupt Obi Wan, while keeping up the act used to maintain Obi Wan’s trust. The thing is Palpatine is fully aware that Anakin in the original timeline was about observant as a particularly dense brick wall and would not have realized that the persona of ‘My friend Palaptine’ did not match the reality of ‘My pal Friendpatine’. Obi Wan would realize if his act was not consistent.
So Palpatine decided to keep the act up 24/7. And everyone knows that your actions become your habits become your personality.
Somewhere in year 8 Palpatine forgets how to Sith.
Technically he is still a darksider but not the extra layer of fucked up that comes from being an actual Sith. And he still has not even made a dent in Obi Wan’s light. He has also, almost single handedly, derailed the war that had been brewing and fixed about 40% of the corruption in the Senate. All without killing a single senator.
Palpatine spends most of his time very confused.
Palpatine lets his term as Chancellor end, having gone down in history as one of the most beloved Chancellors in history. The Clones are found and mostly are inducted as an arm of the Jedi Order. Jango Fett is given a metric ton of therapy, which helps him see that the Jedi were not actually at fault for Galidraan (Jango had, in fact, been the person to escalate things to violence) before he is allowed to take Boba back into the galaxy. By that point the Clones want little to do with him.
For the rest of his life Palpatine tries, unsuccessfully, to corrupt Obi Wan (who never noticed). At this point he is genuinely friends with a number of Jedi (He and Mace Windu have a surprising amount in common, including a love of the theater and a mild exasperation for Anakin Skywalker's antics). He is an honored guest at both the CodyWan and the Anidala Weddings (including a Jedi based wedding ceremony).
Honestly he is having the most fun of his life.
He is also never caught as a darksider. He never figures out how that is possible either.

“CURIOUS WHO’S BEHIND THE MASK, TARA?”
Summary: Tara finds out who's behind her school's mascot, and finds herself getting closer to them. But Ghostface has other plans for the two.
Warnings: Ghostface, angst, character death.
A/N: no pt.2 sorry & old draft that i shall post because i love u guys
"Woooo!" Mindy yells, clapping and cheering for her brother. It was a rare occasion to see everyone in the Core Four present at a football game.
But this was the championship game, and Chad was the star wide receiver. Sam smiles along with Tara, watching Chad celebrate at the end of the game, securing Blackmore the state title.
The team mascot, a fierce brown cougar, joins in the celebration by doing flips and cartwheels on the sidelines. Tara leans into Mindy's ear. "You ever wonder who's under the mask?"
"Curious who's behind the mask, Tara?" Mindy wiggles her eyebrows before chucking, adding, "Chad knows! Just ask him."
Quinn joins in, "They're hot too! Chad showed me a photo of them." Mindy thins out her lips, nodding in agreement.
Tara raises an eyebrow maybe she will.
-
Chad laughs, now at Tara, Sam, and Quinn's apartment, along with Mindy, Ethan, and Anika. "Why are you so curious about our mascot?" Mindy sets down her drink, cutting Tara off.
"Quinn and I were kind of hyping them up." Tara nods, confirming Mindy's words. "The seasons over with! Why are you still keeping it a secret?" Chad shrugs, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "It's just more fun this way. Keeps everyone guessing."
Anika tilts her head, intrigued. "But don't you think it's time to reveal the mascot? I mean, the suspense is killing me!" Chad chuckles and takes a sip of his drink. "I don't know, guys..."
Ethan watches Tara and Anika throw their heads back, sighing and letting out a small laugh. "Maybe you should just tell them before jump them and rip off the mascot costume." He jokes, earning a playful punch from Anika.
Chad looks around the group before pulling out his phone. "I guess you're right," Chad says, scrolling through his phone. He stares at his screen a bit before a voice is heard from his phone. "Hello?"
Chad's face lights up. "Everyone wants to see you without the mask. They've been asking about you all day." The group looks at Chad with anticipation, eager to hear who Chad has on the phone.
"Oh...uh, sure." You let out a laugh, placing your phone on your desk, ready to reveal your identity to the curious group. Chad flips the phone off his face, revealing the screen to everyone. Tara and Anika's jaws drop, their eyes widening in surprise.
"Oh my god." Anika mumbles, covering her mouth in disbelief. Tara, on the other hand, lets out a small laugh. "I didn't expect that."
You wave at everyone. "I hope I lived up to your expectations!" you say with a smile. Chad, still grinning, introduces you to the group. "Everyone, this is Y/N. Our school's mascot."
-
"Mind refilling my cup?" you ask, pointing to your empty cup. Tara chuckles. "Can't you just use the force and make it fill itself?" She teases, mocking your Anakin Skywalker costume. You playfully roll your eyes, knowing that Tara always has a quick comeback.
"You will refill my cup." You say, waving two fingers in a playful Jedi mind trick gesture. Tara laughs and obliges, taking your cup before making her way to the keg. A brown-haired boy places his own cup upside down on the pump.
"You're kidding me, right?" Tara asks the boy, raising an eyebrow. He grins, "Nah, last one's kicked. We got hard stuff in the kitchen though." The boy extends his hand, "Frankie."
Tara smiles, shaking his hand. "Tara. Lead the way." Frankie leads Tara towards the kitchen, and you watch with a slight frown. "Looks like you have a sith to deal with." Mindy says, nodding towards Frankie and Tara.
You light up your prop lightsaber, and Anika adds, "May the force be with you." You chuckle and reply, "Thanks, I might need it."
You walk to Tara and Frankie, ignoring the boy as you smile at Tara. "Is that mine?" You ask, pointing at the red solo cup. Tara nods. "It's tequila, so proceed with caution."
You raise an eyebrow and take a cautious sip. The strong taste burns your throat, but you manage to hide your discomfort. As you hand the cup back to Tara, you notice Frankie smirking at your reaction. "Not a fan of tequila?" Frankie asks teasingly. You playfully roll your eyes and reply, "Let's just say we have a complicated relationship."
Frankie chuckles and turns to Tara. "Hey, I have a bottle of Fireball in my room." You narrow your eyes at Frankie's suggestion, could he be any more obvious?
Tara shakes her head. "I'm good. Thank you, though." You smile, silently grateful for Tara's refusal. It had only been a couple of months, but you found yourself grown to Tara completely.
"Do you wanna go somewhere more silent?" she asks you, turning her back to Frankie. You nod eagerly, relieved to escape Frankie's presence.
-
"Ghostface chasing us...Sam being Billy Loomis's daughter...is just mind-blowing." You say to Tara, leaning your back against the snack bar. Tara looks down at her shoes, a pensive expression crossing her face. "Yeah, it's definitely a lot to process," she replies softly.
You lift yourself off the snack bar and take a deep breath. "But regardless. I'm happy that I'm with you. You've truly made a mark on my life, Tara. I don't think I've felt so strongly for someone, you know? I'm willing to do some crazy shit for you, if it means keeping you in my life."
Tara's eyes meet yours, her eyes darting around your face. She takes a moment to collect her thoughts before speaking. "I feel the same way... It's scary sometimes, but in the best possible way. I can't imagine my life without you either."
You smile, leaning down and capturing Tara's lips with yours in a passionate kiss. You slightly pull away, bringing your forehead to rest against hers. "I never thought I would find someone who makes me feel this way. It's like you've awakened a part of me that I didn't even know existed."
Just as Tara leans in again, she feels a sharp pain in her back.
"Tara!" You shout, holding on to her before she falls to the ground. Ghostface turns towards you, attempting to slash at you with his knife. Adrenaline surges through your veins as you quickly dodge his attacks and push him into a movie poster.
You manage to knock Ghostface off balance, causing him to stumble and drop his knife. Taking advantage of the moment, you grab Tara's hand and pull her towards the exit, determined to get both of you to safety.
Just on time, Sam and Chad open the door, and all of you gasp in surprise. "C'mon!" Sam shouts urgently, gesturing for you and Tara to hurry. Without hesitation, you sprint towards the open door, looking for an exit. But it's not long before you're back where you started—the four of you fighting off Ghostface.
You all manage to knock Ghostface to the ground, and you grab a gumball machine, urging everyone to keep moving. You lift the machine above your head, ready to smash it onto Ghostface, but before you can make your move, another masked killer stabs you in the side.
You gasp in pain as the sharp blade pierces your flesh, causing you to drop the gumball machine. "No!" Tara shouts, rushing to your side, but gets held back by Chad and Sam. You fall to the ground, two Ghostface's tower over you. The pain intensifies as you struggle to catch your breath, realizing that this might be the end of the line for you.
"Y/N!!" She screams again, watching them stab you repeatedly with a sickening frenzy. Your vision blurs and darkness starts to creep in, but you summon every ounce of strength, mumbling. "Run! Go!"
The Ghostface's turn to the three, wiping off their knives in unison.
-
"Great job. All of you." Detective Bailey says to the three Ghostface's. Sam and Tara's eyes widen when realization hits them. "You?"
"Yeah, of course, me." He chuckles before continuing. "Frankly, I expected more from the two of you after what you did to us."
"Us?" The Ghostface on Bailey's left removes his mask, revealing Ethan. "Mindy was right, it was easy to juke the roommate lottery. All I had to do was room with a conceited, condescending alpha, literally named Chad! Fuck, it felt good to kill him!"
Sam and Tara exchange shocked glances, their minds racing to process the revelation. Ethan's words hang in the air, leaving them speechless as they struggle to comprehend the extent of his twisted motives.
Tara's eyes then fill with rage, thinking back on you and Chad, and they mercilessly killed you both. Ethan grins and holds up his mask. "This one was your grandmother's, Sam. Nancy Loomis? It really runs in your fucking family, doesn't it? Speaking of family, "
Bailey buts in, "Wait for it!"
"My names not Ethan Landry, is it Dad?" Bailey laughs, smiling proudly at his son. "Dad?" Tara questions, even more confused.
"Wait, then who else does that leave?" Sam asks, her mind racing to piece together the puzzle. "I don't know?...Mindy?" The Ghostface on Bailey's right takes off their mask, revealing a familiar face.
"Hey, roomies." Quinn says, smiling. "You didn't see that one coming, did you?"
Tara's eyes widen in shock. "Yeah, cause you died!" Quinn chuckles. "Kind of didn't, though. It was a good way to get off the suspect list. Stab Mindy on the train. That sort of thing."
"I just had to make sure I was the first one on the scene so I could switch her out with a fresh body. You'd be surprised at what a grieving father can get away with." Quinn smiles, "I got Stu Machers mask. He was my favorite."
Everyone turns to the last Ghostface, who had been standing silently beside Ethan. The last Ghostface slowly removes their mask, revealing a face that no one expected. It was you, alive and unharmed.
"Still curious who's behind the mask, Tara?" You ask with a smile.
Tara's eyes widen in disbelief as she struggles to grasp what she is seeing. "But... how? How are you standing here right now?" she stammers, her voice filled with confusion and shock.
"I watched you get stabbed!"
The room falls into a heavy silence as everyone waits for an explanation.
"And Sidney supposedly saw Billy get stabbed," you continue, addressing the lingering doubt in the room. "He used pig blood, but that's out of date. Modern special effects have come a long way since then. It's all about creating the perfect illusion, and that's what I did." You explain, revealing the truth behind the seemingly impossible situation.
"I got Amber's mask." You say, looking at it before making eye contact with Tara. "See, I miss my sister dearly. You know Tara, she would call me and tell me how much she cared about her best friend, and not even two months later, you shoot her dead."
"She was trying to kill me!" Tara shouts. You clench your jaw, your own voice raising. "She loved you!"
Tara's face contorts with anger as she retorts, "She may have loved me, but she was also willing to take my life. I had no choice but to defend myself."
"...How are you, Amber's sister? Why weren't you in Woodsboro?" Sam asks.
You take a step closer to the sisters. "Me and Amber weren't biological siblings, but we were raised together since we were young. As for why I wasn't in Woodsboro, I stayed with my aunt... I never was a Cali person, you know?"
Tara glares at you, her anger still evident in her eyes. "Well, it's not like you would understand. You weren't there when it happened. You didn't see what she did."
"I may not have, but I know how she felt, and I saw what you did. I came here to get revenge for my sister and I will finish the movie she started with Richie, believe me."

Welcome to my exclusively SWTOR Tumblr; which is titled "Maybe You Should let the Wookiee Win"
This is where I'll be showcasing my SWTOR toons and adventures. I'm seeming to play a lot more SWTOR now that my wife is back in the game. Her hard-drive space on her laptop was down to near minimal, so somehow, she being more computer literate than me managed to get her game onto an external hard-drive which gave her space on the laptop's hard-drive to install the latest update and get her running again. She needs a much bigger hard-drive on her computer.
Of course, I'm running down to about 345 gigs of space too now. I really should have gotten a 4TB hard-drive. Will have to consider that later. My main toons are on the Star Forge server but I'm not restricted to that. I've also started making toons for the Satele Shan server (the other North American server) and that's where I've been playing on quite a bit.
My first toon I created on Satele Shan was Kyra. She originated from Star Forge, but I had to delete her and start over. (I didn't want to spend the cartel coins to transfer her)
My second toon was Sarlena Worriz.
Of course I also had to have a Jedi Knight - she's going a bit dark.
Couldn't exclude the Imperial Side either.
This is my wife's Jedi Consular (I'm male but enjoy playing female toons; she on the other hand creates mostly female toons).
I have had fun playing the evil Sith Sorcerer with Kyra. She's always been one of my favorites since I haven't unlocked many of the abilities that I have unlocked on Star Forge server. Eventually, I'll probably migrate to every server listed. Then I'm going to have so much fun trying to keep track of all my toons. Guess I'm going to have to keep a spreadsheet of all my characters and what their crew skills are.
On my Star Forge toons, my crew has 745M credits. My Satele Shan toons are poor as ****. So...back to the beginning, I guess...

Star Wars Rewatch: TROS
Oh, God.
Palpatine come back and ruining Anakin Skywalker's redemption. Why? How? Cloning, okay, so this Palpatine isn't the real Palpatine?!
We get to see Supreme Leader Kylo Ren for about 4 minutes before he's immediately benched by Palpatine as co-pilot. Why? I get they didn't want Kylo Ren as the big bad, but this is just lazy writing.
Green goblin, I remember you don't last long.
R2D2, they never wash him or nothing?
Maybe the First Order should win. They take hits and keep on knocking. They take losses and recovered, quickly and well. They always seem to have intelligence from somewhere. In short, they are competent.
Poe and Finn, have a great dynamic.
Rey is finally training for everyone who had a boner for two movies about her having a rocky fight montage.
They moment where Ren is praying over Darth Vader's mask and his mind bridges with Rey is a great reminder that these two are connected.
This film did something most franchise should never, it responded to criticism in real time.
Poe, you fucked up Han's ship. Stop attacking like she doesn't have a reason to be annoyed. Also, Rey is currently the sole Jedi in the galaxy, she should be training, not running off on every errand you have to do.
Colin Travano (whatever his name is) I wouldn't have wanted his script. Like at all. Poe and Rey do have chemistry though and you can tell they enjoy needling one another. It's just not endgame.
That Finnrey hug was awkward. It's a church hug with their butts sticking out. I'm Reylo to the core, but I have place for FinnRey in my heart. They're soulmates in a different way than Reylo is. Also, Daisy Ridley and John B are adorable and you can tell they enjoy working together.
In a flawed film, Rose Tico being sidelined was a wise decision.
Rey, Poe, Finn, Chewie and 3PO are cute. JJ Adams did seem to love friendships developing and for the third film we needed to see all these characters together on an adventure.
Kylo Ren is forging this dumb ass mask again. Look it worked initially, character wise and so forth, but at this point?! He smashed it and moved past the need for it. The audience liked that he smashed it. We have to see his face for emotional scenes. Why is it back? Oh I know! Because JJ Adams good juvenile friend was sad his mask wasn't in the film anymore. General Hux and Kylo are magically little bottle of goodness. We got so little.
We leave one planet for another planet but I keep forgetting what planet we're on. Title cards too much to ask?
Ren is actually pursuing Rey or The Scavenger because yes he wants her for himself. but he also wants to protect her from Palpatine. Their first force bond......... yeah. I've read the novelization so I understand it's been a minute since they've seen one another, but if I just watched the movie would I have known that? No. There is much they saying yet it's stiff and doesn't make much sense without context.
General Pryde. Why did we need him when we have General Hux?
I think Billie D Williams filmed all his scenes sitting down. He looks happy to be there but tired as hell.
Race through the desert of Pasaana. I like it. This crew does work and it feels like a fun adventure. There are cute, whitty moments between all of them and it works.
She heals a snake - Two halves of the dyad should only have been able to heal one another, but here we are.
The Trio and Co find the evil sith ship or whatever. The Knights of Ren gotta walk while Ren is flying. Ren tries to run down Rey, again this make sense in the novelization and not at all in real life. After Rey injures his planes, he crashes and the majestic prince emerges out of the flames. Seriously?! Why the hell are you covering this guy up?!
In a rip off of The Last Jedi we get a tug-o-war scene between the ship Chewie is on. It's not as great, but it's a good scene and we see how Rey's powers have grown. We know it's a waste of time though. They're evenly matched. It's a nice surprise when the lighting shoots out. Okay, I don't mind her being a Palpatine. I mind the retconning. I mind Palpatine magically coming back.
Rey confesses to Finn about her dream of her and Kylo Ren on the Sith Throne. Where? We would have liked to have seen this.
This is a nice FinnRey scene. Despite her display of "dark power", her killing Chewie presumably, Finn doesn't look at her any different. She's still Rey to him. He's patient and present and she describes her challenges. We still don't acknowledge Finn is force sensitive. Why isn't he training with Rey?
We are blazing through this movie. That's part of the problem we're just pushing plot points at this point. The movie needs to be more selective about slowing down and concentrating on character development. Something painfully lacking in this film. Even the Reylo scenes are about pushing the plot forward rather than pushing the characters forward.
3PO actually has a storyline this movie. Good for him. Look secondary characters in a trilogy, you get your moments and it ain't gonna be every film.
Zorri and Babu are nice additions. I like Zorri and the fact that Ren kicking her ass actually made her like her. Women supporting women. Were Zorri and Poe a thing. What's a spice runner? A space drug dealer?
Rey's social skills lack a bit. but she's great with Droids.
Wait, Chewie and Ren were both on Ren's Destroyer and they didn't even have a scene together?! Chewie's like an uncle to Ren.
Ren, show up in your boss ass destroyer to get your girl.
Standout lines -
Poe: 3PO! Move your metal ass.
3PO: How dare you we just met.
Finn, Poe and Chewie cowboying through the destroyer. Nice scene, doomed for failure I'm afraid.
Second Reylo forceskype is exposition. First real Reylo scene is exposition. Hey, movies gotta get it done haha but Ren literally is like here's the plot of the movie and everything you've been confused on up until this point. I will say watching the progression of the force bond that their spaces are now physically bleeding into one another. Nice touch. It's also nice to see what they each see when looking at one another through the force bond.
General Hux is the spy. Could've gone farther with this. RIP Dawg
Another FinnRey scene where you begin to understand Rey is pissed off and darker than possibly Finn thought.
Palpatine and Ren scene. I'm so annoyed Palpatine is in this movie.
We meet a ragtime band on horses surprise their former stormtroopers. All of them. From the same company. Sure Jan.
Seeing the death star again, so odd and doesn't look a thing like the original. We see scavenger Rey again.
Reylo fights again because Rey is the denial queen and she's free to take out her aggression on Ren. He likes feral Rey. In another less PG film, they've fought and then boned, but Leia died. Also, Dark Rey.... I'm here for it. Mostly cause it looks cool.
The film makers did the best they could with Carrie's Fisher passing. I thought they handled it with class and dignity while incorporating it into the film.
After Leia's passing and Rey healing it. Ren in his ever presented conflict nature overlooks the water when his father appears. It's poignant and character driven scene. It's beautiful scene about the enduring love of a parent. A flawed parent but a loving one nonetheless. Ben had two of those and he seems to finally understand that now.
Poe has a good scene with Leia's body about being a leader. Something that, despite all the bravado, he finally admits he doesn't know how to do. This would've been a great scene with her alive. Part of the issue people have the sequel trilogy of the lack of respect paid for previous generations. As if they are flawed and bigoted. On screen and off screen. A scene where Finn, Poe or Rey paid respect for the accomplishments of previous generations. Their courage and their bravery. Billie D. feels like just a stand-in.
Palpatine army blows up yet another planet. yawn.
Finn is a general bestow as such by Poe. Good choice. Sanitation worker aside no one knows more about The First Order than someone who was a stormtrooper. Finn reveals Palpatine wanted Rey alive...... then why tell Ren to kill her? Because if Rey didn't go dark then Ren was the fall back or vice versa?
So far it's not a bad film, just a disappointing film. The stuff that made my blood boil is about to come.
Rey isolates herself on Acht-to, burns the ship and we see ghost Luke. Why? She saw herself on the dark throne and she's afraid of herself. This might have meant something. At one point. It just feels like a retcon at this point. She's a Palpatine but Leia and Luke didn't care? Then what the hell were you worried about Ben for? If blood and legacy means nothing.
I'm not one of those people that need everything in a movie to make sense. It's also a space fantasy film, but damn.
Rey leads the Resistance to Exegol, she just doesn't know it. That was handy. No, really the way the movie sliced that together worked very well. Poe and Finn make a great speech about the resistance. Not as rousing as I'd like.
Exegol being the basis for the Sith religion is actually really cool. Wish we could've learned more. Empress Palpatine sounds like a boss ass name.
I hate everything about the ending of this film.
Rey once again goes into the enemy territory without a plan. The resistance doesn't really have one either except gumption.
Ben Solo is back! He's great. He's a hero. He's got great hair. He's likeable. We haven't seen him for 20 minutes, he doesn't say a word except "Ow" We have a beautiful Reylo moment where we Rey and Ben see each other through the Force Bond and she looks at Ben with such relief, joy and love that he's there with her. Ben fight like hell to get to her. This is it! Bendemption. We've waited three films for this. Then they tossed him off a cliff.
While it's a great scene of Rey listening to the previous Jedi's and rising up. I'm so confused how the dyad coming together empowers the devil. Ben has been made completely irrelevant.
I mean, we got a Reylo Kiss! It was epic and then it was over. We were lucky to get that considering Disney started to shy away from Reylo due to all the "controversy" I just hate this so we'll move on.
The hug was nice!
Rey Skywalker?
And that's that
#reylo#ben solo#star wars#finnrey#rey skywalker#rey star wars#kylo ren#kylo x rey#ben solo deserved better#rey nobody

12 DAYS UNTIL REXWALKER WEEK!
The countdown is really on now everyone! The month of October has been crazy and packed with fun events, but this is the excited reminder that RexWalker week is less then two weeks away, and we wanted to give some quick reminders as well!
Remember this is a week to celebrate the romantic relationship between Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex; and though we love to see any and all positive relationships with the two, we are only going to be reblogging and including romantic creations in this event.
There are two prompts per day, and it is your choice which you wish to do (or if you decide to do both!). We just ask you to make sure you include which prompt in your post so we can share correctly; and when posting to the AO3 collection (AO3 tutorial for this here), it is included in the summary and/or title. Note: If posting all prompts in the same work on AO3, we ask you include the prompt(s) as the title of the chapter, to help with creating the Master Summary later.
On of the prompts this year is "Sith AU", and we want to reiterate that RexVader does fulfill this prompt! RexVader is also encouraged for any of the prompts, as it is still an iteration of Anakin Skywalker. So, as long as you remain positive in the characters, we would love to see and share such works!
We do have a cutoff day for accepting posts (November 15th), simply for mods to create the Master Summary in a good time frame before the holidays. BUT we will still be happy to reblog and share RexWalker content here after that date, and will be continuing to do so throughout the year as well.
Please tag this account in your posts when sharing so we don't miss anything, and note we will be following the #rexwalkerweek23 tag when the week comes around!
Please remember to check the full Rules and Guidelines before submitting or tagging this account in your posts. And check out our pinned post for links to the prompts, FAQ, AO3 collection, and full schedule, as well as a link to a discord full of other people excited to celebrate this ship. OR simply hop to our main page for everything you could need to know. And if you still have questions, on anything with this event, feel free to send them in!
So excited to see what you all create!

Rewatch of ONLY Murders In The Building to prepare for season 4 (V)
<Part I> // <Part II> // <Part III> // <Part IIII>
Block #OMITBRewatch if you don’t want to read notes that will have spoilers up to seasons 3. Just to make it clear, while quoting, I use M, O, C for the main characters.
Also I’m putting this under a read more because it gets long. (also, also this is the fifth part and I finally added "only" to the title.)
S2 E7
Episode of Mabel.
There is Theo and that is a really nice apartment.
M: "Is that me? Did I stab someone? Again?"
Detective Williams baby is so cute! Keith.
Mabel: "Nice accesory." Theo: *Looks down at his ankle* Mabel: "You steal jewelery from dead people, and the state gives you and anklet. Kind of poetic." Theo: *slams the mug, pissed off.*
THEO DIMAS I'm deaf. I write, or use ASL _I catch only 1/3 of what you say,_ through lip-reading.
*insert that video from american psycho about the business cards.
Theo: "When you got off the train, you were in shock so I took you to my place like creep."
Theo is really nice.
Detective Williams is so great.
.... they are so stupid it's amazing... but also that apartment is poorly soundproofed
Talking about a two-men job on the toilet is a really weird thing to say.
M: "Ah, yes. The adventures of a teenage grave robber. Got it."
Theo likes the simple solutions. Nice.
Someone with frustration is playing Whak-a-mole
Crane game... my sister is so good at it. Better than Theo.
So, how did he manage to get the ring in the crane-game? Sleight of hand? He could have put it in there when Mable did not look.
Oliver probably has probably flash-back to the time Will was a baby.
The dads are consulting.
Oh Mabel :(
Of course she is angry, her dad is dying and he can't keep his promises and she does not know.
Uh oh... glitter.
That is such a good scene.
So, the background on Mable's phone... is that her fursona?
Omg... please... I know you need to look at the lips Theo, but please look at the street.
M: "Thank you for stealing my fish."
Oh right! A blackout!
S2 E8
Sith-Avenue Slasher
Something about this was correct...
Also love the fan-made merch. All the tie-die stuff.
You always get Oliver with dips.
Howard! Go for it!!
Psycharatist: "There may be more to life than cats."
... lmao Charles and Oliver bonding over the guy who operated their knees. Besties.
Howard: "Sevenlyn Marie Morris, num num!"
Smooth, Howard!
It's actually nice to see some side-characters in that episode...
Howard and that other guy are a match made in heaven... pity it does not last :/
Also the scene with Nina and the door-man is really good.
Oh... the whole house singing sound of silence. That is such a nice scene.
:(
Mabel takes the dips with her!
lmao everyone getting drunk in the lobby XD
M: "But why are you here? Other than interrogating teenage girls? Detective Kreps: "That's just one part of the job I happen to like."
YIKES YIKES YIKES
The GLITTER!!
S2 E9
Rose Cooper and Leonora Folger are the same person iirc.
Well the alimony is probably partly your fault, Kreps.
Kreps: "And she, or he, if that is your thing, they smile at you, and your whole goddamn universe turns upside down. And that's when shit gets really crazy."
M: "That is ASL for glitter." C: "Oh, that is kind of fun."
Congrats Oliver! You are the father!
O: "There's no real difference. All the European countries are esentially the same."
... boy.
Hey, Alice!
As I said, I did not like Alice but this is really tragic. It would have been nice for Mabel to have an artist as a girlfriend.
Oh lol... Rose just acted like she was Leonora.
And... now I think I remember that Oliver is lying about being greek... but it's a white lie?
25 Willow Dr Lake Placid New York
"Excessive Force Fighting Gym" ... that sounds fun and not serious at all. But gosh the upcoming scene is so good.
Hey, Teddy!
Lmao... Oliver just going for Teddy's throat.
O: "You're my son's father, you piece of shit!"
Kreps: "If I'm so stupid, how come I was able to land the smartes woman on the planet?"
It they weren't murderers their story would have been kinda cute.
Teddy: "Ow!" O: "Can I get you something!? Coffee? Water? A swift kick in the dick?" Teddy: "Look, Oliver, let me explain--" O: "Oh no, no, no. You know you don't have to. I was up all night talking to Roberta. She told me what happened." Teddy: "Did she tell you it only happened once?" O: "She said twice." Teddy: "One night, two times." O: "Well, now you're just bragging."
Mabel figures it out but comes to the wrong conclusion... I mean I would too.
Teddy's whole family was a bunch of crooks.
Teddy: "Aren't we square at this point? You send me to jail, I fuck your wife?"
Well, shit.
S2 E10
I remember that I really enjoyed the episode.
Poppy really had a shitty life.
The Mayor... yikes, yikes, yikes...
Cinda is such a bitch.
O: "Torture? Can we torture her? Charles, get your concertina and whatever you consider your 10 most intersting stories." C *rubbing his nose with his middle finger*: "Hm, let me just muse on that, uh, for a second." O *smirks*: "Mm."
No, Oliver it does not feel like a finale yet... but at least we got to see Poppy's background story.
M: "Oliver, what did we agree on?" O: "You and Charles do the talking."
I know people who are disgusted by the inside of the tomatoe but also someone who gets an allergic reaction when eating unprocessed tomatoes. I on the other hand can eat a tomatoe like an apple. And I enjoy it.
Liverwurst? Yum. Marmelade? Yum. Togther? ... nonono
Uma is great.
Lester's (Doorman) story is hardcore.
Oliver is so fast with giving away Charles' money.
O: "The sexual energy between you two was obvious. I'd say more, but this is a family murder podcast."
Charles and Oliver doing slow motion is so hilarious.
Don't waste food.
... love how Mabel ist using the ego of Poppy to confess.
Holy shit what a scene.
I remember the first time I saw that I was so freaked out.
And the fact that Cinda is now complimenting Mabel...
Again... if they weren't murderers, I would have wished Krebs and Poppy all the best.
C: "Hallelujah! It's a miracle cure!" Lucy: "Nice. you got de-dementia'd."
LMAO... How Charles tries his best to ask out Joy and luckily she understands his grunts.
Pity, that the mural is painted over.
Also it seems like Mabel and Alice stayed friends at least. Maybe dated some longer, who knows?
Awww... Will and Oliver having a moment.
I screamed when I saw Paul Rudd in that role.
But like what kind of ass do you have to be to get on the bad side of Charles?
*dramatic yodeling*

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love❤
a;lkdgjalkgs;fakfgj AHHHH Thank you friend!
I'm so sorry that this is all star wars but they are the most polished writings I've done in a long time
SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
the first one is
White Lie
For new followers is is the story of how Obi-Wan and Sas met, it takes place about a year before Attack of the Clones. This is only the first chapter but I swear I have more that I'm working on! I'm very excited to get back to it I just have to let the sith au brain rot subside
2. Agony and Hope
Speaking of the sith au. I'm currently working on chapter 4 and I really love this au its just a matter of making the dialogue do the thing that I need it to for characters I don't normally write lol
3. Sunrises and Fireworks
Happiest of endings- Obi-wan has adopted Boga. Boga has babies, Obi-Wan and Sas have babies- Skywalker babies- like???? its fun thats all there is to it
4. Hera and Sas have a bonding moment
This one doesn't really have a title, but I imagine it takes place a little after the battle of yavin and like its just Hera and Sas talking about mourning their jedi husbands and processing that
5. Let her Sleep
I think this one is my comfort fic and is definitely one of the softer things I've written.
Thank you so much for the ask friend!

1) Lily has a Cat Sith named Ebony that walked from the wilds in which she was borne, he might be the reason why her soul has reincarnated from her first life. Cat Sith's have the ability to steal souls before the pattern can claim it and she has a feeling that she knows Ebony for far longer from this life alone. There was never a day when he wasn't with her, although she kept herself warm in the winter woods from her ability to conjure flames, his soft body would curl around the babe that she was when night would come and it was under his watchful eyes that she learned to walk, correcting her like he would his own young. He entered the Arches with her and joined her in the castle where he sleeps at the foot of her bed and hunts palace mice.
2) Lily is a primal druid, although the trees keep secrets of their own, she has always found comfort in their embrace. With a lift of her hand, she can meld the Earth in defensive pillars. Water is a fluid element for her to control, as she is a talented bard and a Nightingale who earns her keep through those she seduces, water does not yield to others and finds another way. Being able to light her own fire in the palm of her hand is how she keeps herself warm as those who share her bed always return to their lover, she does not need for others when she is forged from fire. The natural world makes more sense to her than the complex games of society.
3) These are classes I've never played before and are therefore unfamiliar with but that's the fun of roleplay is to explore new and different perspectives so bare with me as this one will be a learning curve. Lily is in the bard class and druid race, so she would ideally have high charisma and help in situations where she could be diplomatic, change disguises, put on different identities, charm and seduce, sing and play instruments. While fighting she would use the elements that come from her primal ability, she'd know somehand to hand combat because of dance and be a long range fighter.
4) Lily has settled within the castle as her role of Courtesan like a kept bird, the cage has the illusion of being open as she is not held by title or by marriage and yet she knows she cannot leave by simple means. She was shackled to a life within the court and to the whispers that followed her, each day the cage's walls close in on her and she plants more seeds for a different life. Being a kept women offers luxuries and comforts that she could not find elsewhere so she has begun to make a home out of her station in life.
5) The patron that paid for the Harmonium was an old crone who had been the daughter of an important noble, she had never married, never had children and were forgotten by most. Lady Agatha Danbury vibes, she kept a careful eye on society and could see through most deceits even before they were committed. She took a liking to Lily and decided to fund her bard schooling, she might be the only person that Lily trusts and engages with that doesn't want sex only the best for the druid.

I THOUGHT YOU WERE REFERENCING ADRESTIN IN MY LAST ASK, I WAS LIKE HUH I WONDER WHAT THAT CONNECTION COULD POSSIBLY BE
VIRULEN WAS ANOTHER ONE OF SCADOX'S APPRENTICES?!?? ADRESTIN GAVE HIM THAT SCAR???
YOU MADMAN !!
I totally assumed Adrestin was Scadox's only apprentice! Now I wonder how he fits into A Burden of Legacy! I guess it makes sense that Adrestin would have to kill Scadox since he has more of a need to prove that he's vicious enough and ready to be a sith lord. So did Virulen's apprenticeship also end with Scadox's death or was he deemed ready earlier? Or did he have to get a new master if his apprenticeship wasn't finished? How long were they both Scadox's apprentices?
Sorry for the absolute deluge of questions lmao!
LOL everything is tied together!
At the point of A Burden of Legacy, Virulen had already been declared a Darth seven years before, so he wasn't even on the same planet at the time. He was already assassinating and causing mass murder for the Empire and making a very violent name for himself. Adrestin was held back from earning his Darth title because he pissed off a very high-ranking Sith Lord, who used his influence to ensure Adrestin didn't get the title he deserved for a Very Long Time (literally decades). It's a sore point for Adrestin, and he was more than a little jealous that Virulen got his title long before he did, even though he had a much shorter apprenticeship and is FAR younger. He's still happy for Virulen and proud of him, though. And Virulen likes to remind him that his jealousy balances out, because Virulen is SUPER jealous that Scadox determined that it would be ADRESTIN that killed him, and not Virulen. Just Little Sith Things.
Adrestin was 16 when he started his apprenticeship with Scadox, but Virulen didn't come around until 12 years later, and he was 7 years old at the time. Virulen earned his Darth title at 23 (Adrestin was 44), and Adrestin didn't receive HIS Darth title until he was 51, which would also be the same time as A Burden of Legacy. So in total Virulen was Scadox's apprentice for 16 years, and Adrestin was (officially) Scadox's apprentice for 35. HUGE difference in time. XD But Scadox knew Adrestin was ready for his title a loooooong time before that, he had wanted to give him the title way back when Adrestin was 28. Which was exactly the same time that he took on Virulen as his second apprentice. He knew Adrestin didn't need him as a teacher anymore.
A minor fun fact: It was at Virulen's ceremony for receiving his title that Adrestin met Erion :3
(I keep a timeline of events to keep all of this stuff organized, it's crazy detailed lol)

Sims is missing out...
It just occurred to me that sims has been missing some pretty decent opportunities to boost its gameplay. I mean with real meaningful, fun, and interesting content. EA has access to a decent amount of titles, yet they don't boost themselves up from the inside. I mean real crossover DLC and Game Packs. They have aliens in sims as they always do, but no Mass Effect Crossover? We can't meet commander shepard, get a suit of armor, pick a class type, and go on missions? They have "need for speed" and we can't get a Street Racing DLC, Get a car, Customize, go to work/streetrace, get promoted, and earn gear for the car to supe it up for performance and style in "CAS". They have the whole "star wars" pack, but they don't add the ability to become a jedi or sith, go to work and do jedi or sith content, meet and mingle with star wars characters, use the force as you see fit. They just came out with Space Jam recently and we can't get a lebron james/looney toons world crossover at all? Learn to play basketball, compete in the space jam, and unleash and catch looney toons running around and learn mischievous and funny actions from each one? Apex Legends their prime free to play game, could add clothing options to pick from, new pets, interactions, a free world based off of the apex legends world, a job as an apex legend even, get collectibles, collect useful items, add some monster hazards in the world with an apex monster hunting skill to fight them. There is Dragon Age, Dead Space, Anthem, It Takes Two, Crysis, Mirrors Edge, and Plants vs. Zombies, all with something to pull from, and create a myriad of clothing items, jobs, mini games, skills, hazards and occult like transformations. I'm not trying to harp on it, but really, I could think of a few things that could improve the game. And "Bust The Dust" is probably not my idea of fun, if even for just a quick moment of amusement. Whatever the issue is, i just feel like to a certain degree it can't be an acceptable practice to have all that content at your disposal and squander it in a consistently time-consuming way, don't get me wrong, sims is its own game, but they already mixed Star Wars into it. why not take it the full mile? Its not like I don't mod my game, and perhaps that makes me part of the problem, I don't converse with any official sims developers but i sure as hell know modders put more time into it than they do. I don't see why if they even put the smallest amount of their time in, why not make it something worthwhile? When they have all the means to make official crossovers, and bridge their game worlds in ways that have yet to be seen. The Sims is basically EA's "Kingdom Hearts" Gateway. And once they realize that, the game will be all the better for it. That is just my two cents. And Id honestly write to them about it, if i felt that I would get a serious reply. But only time will tell what comes next for The Sims.

Thoughts on Star Wars after watching the movies for the first time (contains spoilers)
So I just binged watched all the star wars movies for the first time (I had watched the original trilogy before but never really paying much attention) and I don't know if I like them or not. I have a similar problem as I do with harry potter where there's a million tiny moments where I just see so much potential and it would've been so good if only they would have done some things differently but at the end there are so many things I would change that it would end up being a completely different thing and not star wars anymore. Which I think just means they're not really for me, and that's ok, but I did still like them, I thought they were fun. I don't know, maybe it's too soon to tell and I need to give myself more time to really process it.
I think one of the things that made me feel like this is that the movies themselves really confused me as to what they were trying to be. It is clearly not a science fiction story because all the cool technology is more of a background prop than a theme, but despite what a lot of people say I don't think it is a space opera either. The interpersonal relationships of the characters only really matter and affect the plot in the final act of each trilogy where the bad guy and the good guy face each other and are forced to acknowledge the connection that they have, and in the original trilogy it isn't even that big of a connection. To be honest I felt like the movies were just trying to be both a space opera and a war story in a way that just felt like it didn't accomplish either of the two, I couldn't tell if the characters were an attempt at justifying the need for a final battle for every single movie or if the battles were an attempt at making character arcs end in a more epic or meaningful way (is George Lucas even aware that there are other ways to end a film?). Maybe I should have taken a hint from the title and known that I wouldn't like this because of how I don't like most war metaphors because of how poorly constructed they usually are.
Speaking of poorly constructed war metaphors, I really don't get the whole dark side vs light side thing. It seems extremely reductive to me. I know that you could argue that the Jedi are shown to have flaws in how they handle emotions and that there could be a Sith that was good and just used their feelings in order to use the force, and I would actually agree with it, but my problem with how it's depicted is that all of that is just meta commentary and it is not at all what the actual movies show. No movie actually delves into those topics, there are some hints towards that being the case, yes, but if your fictional world has a group of people that is evil and a group of people that is good, and you spend no actual time dealing with the question of what the words evil and good even mean in the first place or engage in the conversation of how evil and good can coexist or even be the same thing because they are subjective, then you're not doing that topic justice. And Anakin and Kylo Ren aren't enough of an answer when both of their storylines end with them just choosing one over the other. The truth is, every single Sith that is in the movies is a bad guy and every single Jedi is a good guy, even if they are shown to have flaws or they sometimes change sides, and to me that still feels reductive. I just wish there was more of an exploration of the possibility of being both dark and light simultaneously, Kylo Ren seems such a lost opportunity for that, he was so close to it until they just decided to revive Palpatine instead. And the whole good/evil thing isn't even the only moment that is like this where it could be great if only they had just decided to expand on it a bit more, there are slaves and sentient droids and genetically modified clones being used and killed left and right with no more than a few minutes in 9 whole movies that actually acknowledge the morality of it, and I understand that they didn't intend for it to be science fiction and that is what science fiction is, but the lack of interest of engaging in deep topics just frustrated me. But once again, I get it, I am expecting too much of these films, I get that most people that watch them do it for the cool futuristic sword fights and for the blowing things up and for the dopamine of watching the good guys win another battle at the end, whatever that means. Maybe Ursula K Le Guin has just given me so much that now I have too high of a standard for blockbuster movies that are just meant to be marketable and fun. And they are fun, so I don't see why I can't fully bring myself to say I like them.
Another thing that just irked me was how incredibly male these movies are. It is obvious in the lack of lead women characters but it is not just that. There are many many moments that are directly influenced by a more masculine world view. Both the Jedi and the Sith seem to be based on ideals of masculinity, one being the stoic rational emotionless men and the other being anger-driven oppressive men (I could write a whole essay about this). I laughed at Luke's reaction to his uncle and aunt dying because of how emotionless it felt, he only seems sad for a minute and immediately gets over it and doesn't think about them ever again in any of the movies. I also dislike that star wars is so explicitly about families and love that it is the beginning of the entire plot but it has a very narrow view of families where it gives so much importance to blood ties and legacy and such and it really seems like it all revolves around the patriarch of the family. Luke's insistence on calling Darth Vader his father and insisting on him still having a good side is quite weird to me considering he really doesn't know him at all. And although I do get Vader's hesitation in killing Luke because he knows it is the last thing of Padmé that is left, I think that it was such a wasted opportunity that he never gets to know that Leia is his daughter. He could have had an even more justified emotional reaction if he realized that the girl he had literally tortured before was his daughter and that he could have killed her without even knowing it just like he had killed Padmé without knowing it. But it is all wasted because the writers could just not conceive a movie where the climax is between a daughter and her father instead of between a son and his father because in their patriarchal view of family that is the only relation that matters, because sons are the ones that inherit a father's power because women have no power, and so Luke gets everything while Leia just sits back and looks pretty. Leia is the one with knowledge in politics and who grew up being a part of this fight but Luke is the one that is chosen to be trained as a Jedi despite both having the potential for it, he is the one that is told about his father and trusted with the information and he is the only one allowed to face him at the end and he is the only one who turns him and he is the protagonist. Again, lost potential. And at least the sequels seem to fix this issue somewhat and they give Rey power and authority and they give us characters with no blood relations until they then fuck it up and make Rey a Palatine and make her power come from her grandfather's power, a man's power. But even then they do show more moments of genuine care and love that escape these two options of being either stoic or angry, I think one of my favorite moments of all the movies is in the last film when they all hold each other's hands, it is such a sweet moment that I think would be impossible in the other two trilogies.
And I think against most people's opinions that the sequels are probably my favorite for this reason, it fixed some of the things that had to be fixed. And I think having a sequel in order to fix it was so necessary, but honestly I would have liked it to take a completely different direction. I both like and dislike them. I like Rey and I like Finn and Poe, they are my favorite trio in all the trilogies, and I like Kylo Ren because until then all of the talk of turning darksiders to the light side didn't feel that well thought out, but I truly don't like how they just go back to the exact same thing that the original trilogy was, movie 7 is the same as movie 4 and there is still too much time spent on battles and too little on actually engaging with the themes the movies are supposedly about, and the first order being so powerful honestly makes me feel like the ending of movie 6 was worth nothing. I would have liked it much more if the trilogy dealt instead with the aftermath to what happened in the originals and the lives of ordinary people like Rey and Finn. And even with how they are I didn't like the last movie, Palatine just came out of nowhere and it seemed to me just a cheap way to give Kylo Ren plausible deniability by having a superior to respond to so that people wouldn't get mad at his redemption and I also hated how they killed him immediately after redeeming him when in my opinion one of the most interesting parts of a redemption is the following arc of a character learning to accept what they've done and making amends and learning that not everyone is going to accept it. Him dying is just a way to be able to immediately make him a hero and not deal with the consequences of his redemption, and I feel that is quite cowardly for a movie to do. Every step of these movies I just keep seeing ways to evade delving deeper into the topics that they themselves bring up.
The original trilogy I don't know how I feel about. Maybe it is because they are the star wars movies that are the most praised for their originality which as someone who is an avid fiction reader is something I don't see in them, or because most of the people praising them do so from a deeply nostalgic feeling which I do not have having watched them only just now, or maybe it is because I see in them that weird outdated world view that old movies that talk about the future have. I do have to say they are better written than the prequels, and I like their pacing a lot more, though I don't feel any emotional connection with the characters even after 3 movies with them. I do like Han and Leia's romance, and I think it is an interesting set up for a fantasy world (because it is fantasy), but it is not much more than that.
The prequels I didn't like much either, but they did succeed at something that I really needed after watching the originals first (I watched them in release order) and that is giving context. I don't think they do a great job at world building, but however cool the mysterious aura of the originals was, they left so many unanswered questions like Leia somehow being a princess and a senator (for what senate we don't know) or who their mother is, and I finally got my answers here. I did also get more questions like what even happens during the clone wars but I think I'll only get answers for that in other adjacent star wars shows which I don't know if I want to watch yet. And I felt that the prequels were so strongly trying to give context and backstory and depth to the originals that they were often dealing with too many things at the same time and expanding on them too little. I also felt Anakin's switch to the dark side was too abrupt and didn't happen at the right moment, there are indicatives of him having been tempted by the dark side way before, yes, but they were too distant in time to make them feel relevant then and his scene when he switches sides is too sudden. It feels completely in character for him to kill Windu, but I would have expected for him to show at least the smallest bit of resistance afterwards, I think I would have been happy with even half a minute of hesitation or guilt before he surrenders, but that never happens. I do have to say the fight between Anakin and Obi wan was quite good, it was properly paced, it felt real to the characters and made sense, so even if I don't like ending a conflict with a battle just this once George Lucas can have it, I did like that fight scene, which honestly quite surprised me.
So, those are my thoughts for now, I might watch some of the other movies and shows that are out there because I did feel like I was missing a lot of context and lore, or I might wait a while and then rewatch the movies and maybe by then my opinion might have changed, I don't know. Also for clarity I have to say that I did not watch these movies in a good moment at all, I read Earthsea just a month ago which is a series that is not afraid of delving into deep philosophical questions and I think it made my expectations for other media way too high, and I also watched these movies right after I finished reading The Bell Jar, which in my opinion probably made all of the emotional moments seem milder in comparison, watching a boy consider the possibility of having to kill his own father (that he's known for 5 minutes, mind you) doesn't really seem that extreme after reading 200 pages of a woman in an asylum describing how she wants to kill herself.

In this idea of the "Gray Jedi" I always come back to the idea of Kreia and Jolee Bindo from KOTOR. And I think this is where we see what the prototypical "Gray Jedi" are. I don't know Jolee Bindo as well but from what I remember he is described as a Gray Jedi because he uses emotion when he uses the force. But I think what people miss is that he isn't some morally grey character who goes out and kills people and does terrible things. Rather he is a person who still overwhelmingly seems to be a Jedi and for all that his in game "Alignment" is neutral his actions show what he is.
Now I know KOTOR 2 way better so I will actually provide some thinking on Kreia. Kreia throughout the game criticizes your actions both light and dark. She comes across as the idea of a "Gray Jedi", a force user who does what needs to be done. But you look and she never advocates for helping others, she never stands for any way but the shortest. Starting on Telos IV she advocates you work with Czerka because they are the pragmatic choice. On Onderon she approves if you side with General Vaklu, on Nar Shadaa she criticizes you helping refugees instead of working with the Exchange. Her actions consistently show that she is not a good person. Beyond what your character sees as well is how she treats everyone around her. She breaks into Atton's mind to manipulate him, she forces Hanharr into servitude with the direct intention of having him kill one of your companions, she sends a message off to Darth Nihilus that he should go to Telos IV to find Jedi, exposing Atris, she corrupts Atris to the Dark Side - further than she already was.
At the end of the game Kreia even kills the Jedi Masters you have been searching for (unless the PC killed them in a Dark Side run), causing unknown amounts of damage to the remaining Jedi Order. She encourages you to this same pragmatic view and acts and thinks that you became stronger when you were cut off from the force. Despite this though (and some of the early 2000's game mechanics) the essential story of KOTOR 1 and 2 is that you either fall to the dark or ascend to the light. Neither makes a character more powerful lore wise (in game because of Force Storm and Life Drain the darkside is more powerful, but that is mechanics fighting narrative and also not that big a deal because while weaker force wave is still very good AoE damage). You single-handedly fight Darth Sion in KOTOR 2 until he accepts your philosophy or strength and gives up, you with just one other Jedi and the Mandalor (this was before the title became Mand'alor) fight Darth Nihilus who consumes planets for fun, and by yourself wade through a sith base killing well over a dozen lesser sith lords, several dozen sith assassins and Darth Traya who get this - Is KREIA! WHO SHE HAS BEEN THE WHOLE TIME! And you know what at 10 years old when I first played this I wasn't surprised, BECAUSE SHE ADMITS IT TO YOU!
In the end her philosophy isn't even that you can walk between dark and light (she even admits to having fallen) but rather that you (as in your character) should destroy the force, that the wound that causes you such pain should expand until ALL THE FORCE IS GONE because she thinks that would better than having the force there because she thinks it 'enslaves' people against their will. BUT EVERY ASPECT OF THE GAME DISAGREES WITH HER. You and your companions gain levels by getting stronger with the force, you become a beacon to people around you if you ascend to the light side, and you can do so much to help because you have the force. Yes it is possible to beat the game without it, but so much of what makes the story work is this juxtaposition between what evidence tells you (that the dark side makes things worse, that working together allows people to become the best of who they could be and do so much good, that in the end it doesn't take being the most powerful - explicitly you aren't as strong as Revan and for most of the game even as strong as you once were, but that good people standing up and helping is all that is needed for good to actually triumph) and the philosophy of the main antagonists.
TLDR: In an unhinged way even the prototypical "Gray Jedi" are actually either light or dark just with different philosophies that influence how they interact with you as a person. The idea of the gray jedi falls apart if you loot at the text, and subtext of what happens in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. While there are items that talk about Gray Jedi in there you never meet any who does not fall into the dark or ascend to the light, and any actual 'gray jedi' ability is just a game mechanic to allow players to play how they want.
TLDR of the TLDR: Gray Jedi are not supported even by the parts of Legends that seem to at first glance support them the most.
I don’t think some people realize why the gray jedi thing pisses some of us off so badly.
Imagine you like lord of the rings and you decide to look around the fandom.
And it turns out that 10+ or something years ago someone wrote a piece of fanfiction where they rewrote the rules for the ring. So instead of it only having one master and corrupting everyone else that tried to use it, it sometimes chooses to take a new master if it feels the person is worthy of it. And therefore this author’s self-insert OC can now use the one ring in all its glory without getting turned crazy.
This fanfic gets published (as some fanfics do) and most of the fandom has read it and loves it.
Now, when you (someone who has only dealt with canon works written by Tolkien) see this fic you go… huh. That’s nice, but it goes against the very point of the books and the lore tolkien created. So while it’s a good fic I’m not going to interact with it.
But then people keep harassing you for taking about/ writing the one ring the way tolkien wrote it to begin with.
And they SWEAR that this is the Actual lore of the one ring, and that YOU are wrong. Which is completely insane to you, because FRODE TOOK IT TO MORDOR FOR A REASON. There is only one lord of the ring!! That’s literally the name of the series that’s what it’s about!! If what the fandom was insisting about was possible, there would be no plot. In the original books.
This is why we are so upset over gray jedi!! Bc if it was possible to use the dark side but still be a good guy then wtf is wrong with Anakin? Why the fuck did Darth Vader fall to the dark side? Why did Luke struggle so much? If you can have your cake and eat it too why are the movies so fuckin long?? Why did Luke fail against Vader in Empire? what lesson did he learn in Return? Why would the movie be called Return of the Jedi if Luke had not learned the Jedi ways????
You can write OC’s as gray jedi all you want but when you start forcing it into canon it literally ruins the movies!

Okay but I would LOVE to here your heretical opinions on Padame if you ever want to share them or any of your other views on star wars prequel characters. Your character analysises are INCREDIBLE and really fun to read <3
Oh boy, are you sure about that? Well, the ask has been made so here, we, gooooooooooooooo!
Padme’s one of those strange characters who appears as one thing but in actuality is quite different. Because she appears as the first thing, and it’s something people really like, most people accept that at face value and if she’s not always consistent--well, she came from a series of screenplays written by George Lucas.
Padme comes across as a very noble, kind, and courageous character who is also quite politically savvy. At fourteen, against all odds, she saves her planet from invasion when the Senate did nothing, secured herself an ally in the chancellor (nevermind him being secretly Palpatine), and even after relinquishing her title as queen remains a major player in the senate for years and is seen as enough of a threat to warrant several assassination attempts (one so bad she has to be guarded by Jedi and sent home to Naboo for several weeks).
And I’m not saying she’s not any of these things. Padme is very courageous, is one of those odd politicians who... believes she stands for what she believes in (more on this later), and has a remarkable political career.
However, she’s also romantic to the point of being completely and utterly delusional, self-centered, and frankly a little nuts.
(Yeah, you knew you were waiting for me to say something terrible, WEREN’T YOU?!) Right, so what’s wrong with Padme?
Well, if you look closely at a few of her choices, the ones that never seemed to make much sense, then you can look at her other choices and... Well, it all sort of comes together.
That’s right, I’m talking about “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith”.
Attack of the Clones we have the very lackluster and strange romance of Anakin and Padme.
On Anakin’s end, his infatuation with Padme makes a lot of sense. She was part of the party that rescued him from slavery, she was very kind to him, and was the prettiest girl he’s ever seen in his life. Ten years later, always having harbored a crush on her memory and keeping it alive through whatever news he hears of her, she’s grown into a very beautiful woman and Anakin is by chance introduced back into her life. I get why Anakin falls head over heels for Padme, I’ll get more into this later and how their relationship has some major issues (aside from the obvious), but I understand why he marries this girl out of nowhere even when it could get him thrown out of the Jedi. (As an aside, since this is more of a Padme post, I think Anakin was spurred on in part also by the death of his mother and his massacre of the Tusken Raiders. Anakin’s life was flipped upside down in a very short amount of time, one of his great emotional ties is suddenly gone, and I think he has this internal crisis that culminates in him deciding to marry Padme. Without this, he and Padme may have become lovers, but I don’t think he’d marry her).
On Padme’s end... it’s a little less clear. Anakin has grown into an attractive young man, yes. Take out all of George Lucas’ dialogue, and maybe Padme finds Anakin very charming. However, Padme secretly marries a Jedi she’s known for three weeks. Now, I’d be a bit more forgiving of this, love is love and we can’t always think rationally, but there’s some other things.
Unlike Anakin, Padme hasn’t been spending the past ten years romanticizing her memory of Anakin Skywalker. When they met in Phantom Menace, Anakin was not only five years younger than her, he was nine-years-old. To fourteen-year-old Padme, Anakin was not then dating material and was instead this poor boy in slavery. Which means while Anakin has build up justifying this rapid romance, Padme really doesn’t. What this means is that her romance with Anakin reads a lot more like a romantic fantasy. Cute dashing bodyguard shows up, saves her life, through contrived circumstances they’re sent back to beautiful Naboo where they spend time together, only cute bodyguard is a Jedi and can’t marry, which makes their love excitingly taboo!
Everything Padme does, before and after this point, lends itself to this overdeveloped sense of romance. Padme wants to be whisked away, wants to have this secret unsustainable marriage with a man who cannot be married, she’s in love with the idea of being in love. Given how little time she spends with Anakin, how little they really know of each other, I’d say she’s more in love with the idea of Anakin than Anakin Skywalker himself. And this isn’t a bad thing necessarily, or at least not a grievous flaw, however, that’s not all.
Padme chooses to marry Anakin knowing he murdered an entire village of men, women, and children. She marries him almost immediately after the massacre of the Tusken Raiders. Note, she does not learn about this later and have to come to terms with it, she is right there. She is on Tatooine with him and sees him go to do it and then return.
Padme doesn’t take it... particularly well, that said, she also seems to shove it under the carpet immediately. She, first, marries Anakin within days after this event. She second, never really has a “holy fuck, Anakin” conversation with him. And worst yet, she never confesses to anyone else. Padme is a hypocrite and willing to sacrifice everything she believes in, albeit I believe unwittingly, for her romantic fantasy.
She tells no one about what happened. An entire village was brutally massacred, those who are already poor and oppressed and have no voice, by a man who is supposed to be a protector of all people in the galaxy. I’m sorry, Anakin, but if Padme was who you think she is then she would have to tell the Jedi Order at the very least if not the Republic. Instead, there are no consequences, only Anakin’s descent into guilt and madness as three years pass with it festering in the back of his mind. Padme does not stand for the poor, for the people, or for justice. She only does so when it does not conflict with her own interests, i.e. her actions regarding the invasion of Naboo. More, I do not believe Padme has the introspection to realize this about herself, she never realizes that not narking on Anakin was very very very bad. Three years pass and she lives the whirlwind romantic fantasy that she and Anakin both want. They’re secret lovers/spouses, meeting up at the oddest hours of the day and... This is three years of this ridiculous affair. Three years to come to terms with the fact that something must change. And then the kicker, Padme gets pregnant, and this is where the extra delusional comes in.
The child should have been a signal of the end. There can be no more secret now. Padme is having a child, presumably out of wedlock, and even if space is very very very different from our society I imagine this would be quite the scandal that could even get her thrown out of the senate. I believe Padme mentions as much to Anakin. More, Anakin is no longer a lover, he is now a father. What’s supposed to happen now? They raise this secret child, instructing them that Anakin is only a father in private, never in public?
Anakin and Padme briefly flirt with the idea of Anakin leaving the order. Anakin even wants to do so, but it... never happens. Now is the time it absolutely should happen. Yes, Anakin’s a big part of the war effort, but he could at least start talking to the Order and they could decide if it’d be a slow or fast exit.
My theory, Padme’s too in love with the fantasy. Anakin leaving means he’s no longer a Jedi, it means he’ll come to Naboo, be unemployed and be around. Anakin visiting will no longer be this romantic, fraught with the danger of being found out, passionate, short lived event for Padme. It’ll become real life. He’ll be a real, ordinary man, she’ll be a real, ordinary, woman, and that spark of romance will be gone.
I don’t think Padme wants that.
Which is why, even with the child on the way, we see Anakin and Padme continue to play out this ridiculous secret lovers fantasy. And then, of course, Anakin goes insane off screen.
Padme is told that, once again, Anakin has murdered dozens of children. Of course, this is a terrible thing to be told and she can’t process it. She needs to find Anakin and confront him, but people always criticize Lucas here and feel it’s out of character for Padme to have run to Anakin in sobbing hysterics with no plan of enacting vengence.
Frankly, I think it’s very in character. She did nothing about the Tuskens, remember? I think at the end of the day, the murder of the Jedi children means very little to her. What hurts Padme the most is that the fantasy of Anakin she married is not real. The Anakin she married would never murder the Jedi children, betray the Republic, or do any of what he’s done. And I think Padme only has that strong, iron, will when she knows the world she’s in. With the Trade Federation, her stance was obvious. Her people were being oppressed, butchered, and invaded. In this case, the world she knew no longer exists.
The Republic is gone, perhaps hasn’t existed in thirteen years, as it turns out the senator who had always been her biggest supporter was a Sith Lord. The Jedi are gone, children murdered by Anakin while those in the field are picked off by their own clone soldiers. Padme’s world has fallen apart, and I think that makes it much harder for her to be the girl we saw in Phantom Menace. In time, perhaps, she would have joined the rebellion but... I do think Padme might have also given into despair.
So, yeah, that’s Padme for you.
