f! kylar's fixation on you is a lot more romantic than her male counterpart - partly influenced by her LOVE for all things shoujo - she makes an effort to write slews of poetry about you, steals things that you personally value; like jewellry or special trinkets (as well as lots of clothing and lewd things...) solely because she craves to recreate a loving connection with you. she wants to be as meaningful to you as those silly little trinkets are. she'll hold them above her face at night - just staring - wondering what makes them so, so special to you.

she likes to dress cute - opts to wear skirts paired with sheer stockings rather than pants, with a baggy oversized sweater that her boobs still jut out of - her style definitely changes depending on how she's feeling. at low jealousy, it's noticable that she makes an effort to look presentable for you. she sprays on hefty amounts of cloying perfume, wears little pink clips in her hair, and actually hangs up her school shirt rather than leaving it crumpled on the floor. but at high jealousy, her efforts towards maintaining her cute appearance are thrown out the window. her hair is knotted, cut at jagged angles and perpetually put on the backburner until she feels like fixing it. (which is not any time soon unless you plan on talking to her again) her clothes are dirty, noticably crumpled and unwashed, and she just looks really tired. the makeup she wears is smudged, mascara runs down her cheeks if she even makes eye contact with you. she's a mess in the most heart-aching way possible.

as mentioned above, i think once you start dating kylar she'd wear some subtle makeup - just to see if you notice it. maybe a light dusting of blush on her cheeks, some eyeliner smeared on her waterline to make her eyes pop, just little things that emphasise her features because you've already told her you think she's pretty even without it.

one really cute thing that i think would stay prevelant in kylar in f! or m! would be that they would quietly ask you to cut their hair... it's really hard for them to reach the back themselves... BUT!! specifically with f! kylar, you'd both look at pinterest boards together, picking out what hairstyles would best suit her face shape!! she'd love it so much too, only because you're pressing your chest up against her back and you're so warm that she's struggling not to faint. (m! kylar is skrunkly and just asks you to cut it enough so that it doesn't touch the back of his neck)

her wedding plans are much more cohesive - rather than being a series of uncoordinated scribbles in a sketchbook - she has a whole journal dedicated to the venue (the forest), eight separate collages of different wedding themes, ideas of what you'll wear, ideas of what she'll wear—

overall, she's a lovesick fool. (literally just kylar with E cup tits and a MEAN set of birthing hips to match) (still petite and scrawny though... maybe if you coaxed her into taking care of herself a nice pair of love handles will form :) hnnngg)

Okay, so. I'm in Love with the Villainess. Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou. WataOshi. Whichever title you want to refer to it by.

Before reading or watching it, I wondered why the hell people were holding up this random villainess isekai light novel with an over-the-top masochist main character as a landmark yuri title. Okay sure I don't doubt there's yuri going on, but how can it be so special?

Then I watched the anime. "Huh. The series and its main character are clearly and unambiguously lesbian in a way that so many other series can't bring themselves to be. And it has the most frank discussion of queer issues I think I've ever seen in anime or related media. Yeah, I think I see now, it is a cut above." And both because I've heard the novels get into a few things a little more and because the series now has its hooks in me enough for me to want to read the novels anyway, I read the first novel. And yeah, that does add a bit.

And then I read the second novel. The latter bit of the anime does cover the first bit of the second novel, but it's mostly new territory for an anime-only or anime-first such as myself. And holy fucking shit. Spoilers under the cut.

For one thing, the anime/first novel dropped some trans hints about Yu, and that turns out to be a whole transfem allegory - which isn't unheard of by any means, but it's not especially common in a work where that isn't the main focus. And not only that, but there's an actually explicitly textual transmasc in Rae's past life, who forms part of Rae's motivation to make considerable effort and take considerable risk (up to and including treason) to make sure Yu can live as a girl - once Yu states that is what she wants, it is important to note. Random yuri villainess isekai light novel says trans rights, and will absolutely stand by it.

And then all of the stuff about class and inequality comes to a head, and remember how the game that Rae's in the world of is titled "Revolution"? Yeah. One of those happens. Various hints have been dropped about what happens, largely centred on Rae making efforts to save Claire's neck in the most literal way possible when things really go down. But holy shit does that turn out to be more effort and a much more complex endeavour than it appears at first... or for most of the time while it's going on, for that matter. Ultimately she arranges things so that while the revolution still happens (it is basically inevitable), overall loss of life and suffering is minimised, and the general situation is as good as it possibly could be. By the time the proverbial smoke clears, Rae and Claire are openly living as a couple, which is a lot more than you usually see - one of the things Rae comments on is how in per previous life, too much of the yuri she read ended with at least one of the girls either dead or winding up with a man, which annoyed her enough to write fanfic based on series she likes with unsatisfying endings to fix that. And though the game did have a yuri spinoff, the original - the events of which she was living through and manipulating - was het. The character she winds up with was never supposed to be a romanceable character to begin with.

And that's just the first two of the five novels. Living through and changing the course of an actual revolution and settling down with her partner is just 40% of the whole story. (And less if more novels get published.) I've just started the third novel, and it's certainly looking like the rest is going to be at least as much of a ride as the first two were.

This really is an outstanding series. It's Dungeon Meshi levels of "I cannot stop thinking about it" to me, which if you've seen how much I post about that, says a lot. And I haven't read even half of it yet.

I've found out that reita is gone three months later

so yesterday at night, august 15, I found out that reita was dead... and I couldn't' believe it, it was so surreal and I cried reading the words of ruki for him. it pains me to know the gazette members were friends, mostly reita and uruha that used to know way before.

tbh I haven't listened to the gazette since 2016

I met the gazette's music at 18 or something like that and

now I'm 36 and I have clinic depression and when the gazette made their second world tour, the country I live in it's close to argentina, I had a friend who had an argentinian friend that got me a front row ticket for the gazette concert, I got the flight tickets for me and my friend, and then I had a shitty nationality that didn't let me go anywhere (I already changed my nationality) anyway, I didn't get the visa to argentina, I was so sad I wanted to end everything. I went straight to the psychiatrist, it was the first time I really wanted to end everything, every bad thing that had happened to me, not being able to got to the gazette's concert was the last blow, and someone I thought as my best friend back then, she got to go and it made me so sad and angry 'cause she wasn't even a real fan compared to me, she just happened to listen to their songs that year and go (she dedicated ito to me 'cause she missed me, and hell I told her 'bout that song's meaning, that's my proof she wasn't a fan)

so I stopped listening to the gazette, but this year I felt like listening to, and last night I was listening to layla by eric clapton because a kaleido star's fanfic I was reading with the characters layla and yuri, and I wanted a name for the main female character of the book I was trying to write, I thought layla was cool, but there's already too many L in my main male character's name, so I thought of reila (I thought it was reira) and there was "what happened to reita the gazette" on the search while I was looking for reila's lyrics, I thought it was a illness or accident, but no, reita is gone.

I found out that reita is gone while listening to eric clapton playing guitar.

I went to wikipedia and I thought a troll edited the page, a horrible joke, but it was real and it means I'll never go to a the gazette's concert in my life, maybe I still can, but it won't be the same without reita, he is the gazette and he is my fave bassist and I remember when I was young and grew up with the gazette's songs, I got excited just by watching their pvs on the screen, everytime I read their interviews were so inspiring, just a bunch of young adult friends that decided to pursue the same dream together. I wish I had that kind of friends, and let's face it, most jrock groups break after a few years, the gazette were friends with the same dream that lasted over two decades, they were losers that had each other and followed their dreams and made them come true and to me the gazette isn't one of the best rock/metal groups of japan, to me they're one of the best in this whole universe.

and I went to two aerosmith lives where they were in their 60s and I dreamed of the the gazette were going to rock 'til they were old in his 70s.

tbh I'm curious about reita's passing, I want to know why, last year matthew perry died and I love friends, it was shocking, but I did know why, however asian artists are more discreet than western ones and we may never now about what happened to reita. there's so many rumours and the gazette haven't released new songs since 2021? I guess there'll be a new bassist and I won't hate on him, but it won't be the same.

reita was so young, not 45 or 47, he was 42 and I don't want to believe in the horrible rumours. whatever happened to him, it was his life, if there's heaven, another life or another world I hope he's in peace.

Okay this ship caught me completely by surprise, because like I went into the expansion fully expecting to ship WoL with Wuk Lamat and there even was some content for that, but in the end I felt I enjoyed Wuk Lamat more as a daughter/little sister figure for the WoL

Then for a good while I was sold on Wuk Lamat x Alisaie, because Alisaie consistently used l'amatyi to refer to Wuk Lamat and we know that that's a term of endearment in Tural. Also Alisaie can't help but have massive lesbian vibes with any woman she interacts with

Okay for many reasons actually

First of all, the story constantly matches up Reason and Resolve as complementary halves of a greater whole. So shipping the Vow of Resolve with the Queen of Reason makes perfect sense

Then you have Wuk Lamat and Sphene bonding over their love for their people and their desire to understand each other (with a little extra "robot learns how to feel" spice for good measure)

Add to that Wuk Lamat's insistence that she can't let Sphene got without first confronting her and fully understanding her, leading to a youtube compilation's worth of her calling out "Sphene!"

All culminating on Wuk Lamat punching a hole through reality in order to have one final conversation with her, saying that she finally understands all of her, AND THEN AWAKENING HER HUMAN PERSONALITY AGAIN THROUGH THE POWER OF THE MEMORIES THEY SHARED TOGETHER

and in the end you have the perfect storm of TRAGIC FUCKING LESBIANS!

Pride and Prejudice, Shipping Gone Wrong

Alright little side thing after my last reblog that I think is important to talk about

I ended that last post by saying I don't think ppl who ship queer ships are better than those who stick to canon, and even said some were monsters that shouldn't be allowed to vote and I'mma get into that. Let me break it down for you.

Okay jokes aside, this is actually a very serious issue that does not get addressed the way it needs to.

The way you ship says a lot more about you than you think. It can highlight some prejudices you may not realize you have and there's layers to this shit too. (side note: I will be using examples. If your favorite ship is mentioned, it's not an attack on you or that ship as a whole, I'm talking specifically about how people engage with these things. Don't think I'm trying to police you, and if you're truly offended maybe you should be. Do some thinking)

IS IT LEGAL?

If you ship children and adults together or promote canonically abusive relationships, you're automatically weird. We don't need to look any deeper into that, you said all that needs to be said about you.

Morally Dubious Ships

Now, this one is a little more subjective and there's more forgiveness to be had here. Sometimes people don't realize a ship is kind of problematic. Sometimes that's a writing issue. Like you ever look back at a show or movie you watched as a child and go "oh my god how the fuck were these the heroes"? It really could be that and I'm not gonna judge you for interpreting something the way the writers wanted you to. Sometimes relationships that are abusive or just unhealthy are portrayed as something to strive for.

Sometimes it's not a writing issue and more of a "where do you draw the line" kind of issue. For example, take Otayuri. It's the pairing of Otabek Altin, who's 18, and Yuri Plisetsky, who's 15 going on 16 around the time that they meet. Now, if someone my age (I'm turning 18 in a month) said they had a 15 year old partner I would definitely have some questions, but I'd need more context before outright saying "oh ur a creep". The age gap isn't the issue, if you're mad over three year age gaps you need to get off the internet and go outside. It's more about where they are in life. The reason a senior in hs dating a freshman is strange is because the freshman is fresh out of middle school, and the other is literally about to go to college. Those are two wildly different worlds developmentally. My personal opinion on Otayuri is that since they've known each other for a while, they both seem to be equal mentally, and the way in which their relationship grows is not predatory in nature, I don't see a problem with it.

But that's just my way of viewing this ship. Other people might think those ages are unacceptable no matter what. And that's great for them. The bottom line here is that it's up in the air. You're not wrong or right for thinking any sort of way about the morality of it. No one gets hurt by the existence of this ship.

Bakudeku is a little harder to argue for. Right off the bat, shipping a bully and their victim together is kind of crazy. Like if you told me you were a Bakudeku shipper from SEASON 1, I would run away as fast as humanly possible because dawg, WHAT THE FUCK??? A relationship where one party doesn't even respect the other as a human being does not work and should not be promoted. In my eyes, the only way this could happen is with a lot of character development on both ends and with Bakugo apologizing at some point. That could actually be very interesting, it's great when fanfic or comic writers do that and do it well. When I was in the MHA fandom, I enjoyed the ship but it was by no means my favorite and the top reason is that the characters weren't in the right place for that to happen properly. If you think that's wrong, then again, more power to you. I have a lot of respect for people who can draw hard lines like that. Either way, it is very much up to debate as to whether or not this is okay, we're getting into "this may hurt somebody" territory.

But Sydney, what does this have to do with prejudice?

Most ships are inherently harmless. People are just having fun. Sometimes amazing content comes out of that, but other times... it's not that cute.

I'm gonna go back to the MHA fandom for a bit, not to trash on y'all cuz there are by far worse fandoms but I have more personal experience there. I wanna avoid speaking on a fandom I've never been in. One of the most irritating things for me was the mischaracterization of a lot of the main characters in MHA. No, I don't think everything needs to be exactly canon and if they do anything out of character in your fan work, you're evil. There's a certain breed of mischaracterization just REEKS of stereotypes.

A thing I've noticed is that in a lot of fan work, especially ones that have more sexual content, the character that's the "bottom" or whatever other words you wanna use for that, is typically made to be more feminine, less muscular, and they lose a lot of their personality to be an "uwu innocent smol bean". The other one will be hypermasculine, be super protective and dominating even if in canon, they are none of those things. The twinkification usually happens to characters like Deku that are more emotional and treated as though they're weaker, but he is not the only one. That's happened to characters like Bakugo too. FUCKING. BAKUGO. THE MOST AGGRESSIVE MF IN THE DAMN ANIME. The second he gets put into that submissive role, it becomes his whole personality.

Are we starting to see the problem here gang?

People are taking these characters and altering them to fit into their idea of what a queer relationship "should" look like or what they think is the hottest kind of queer relationship. That is fetishization without a doubt. This shows me that you don't see gay people as people and refuse to.

This bleeds into another issue. One of racial fetishization. As a kpop fan, I've seen kpop ship art and fan fics. Now, whether or not shipping real people is okay or not is a conversation for another day. We're focusing on how these people are written/drawn. One of the interesting things I've seen is that people will sort of use idols as a vessel for another story. They're not necessarily writing about them but more so building off of their persona or how they're generally perceived. So "accurate" depictions aren't something you're gonna see. The most worrying depictions are ones like what I described previously. The difference is, it's indiscriminate. Idols have been written into both roles before, it just flip flops between whoever fans think is the least masculine. This is already weird as is, but consider that Asian men are often seen as "lesser men", more feminine, weak, etc. Consider that Asian women are seen as shy, innocent, submissive and things of that nature. These are the ideas on which these "uwu cinnamon roll" characters are built upon.

Now, you're probably thinking I'm reaching, but peep this. What if we move out of Asian-centric media? Does the same apply? YES. VERY MUCH SO. In fact it's MORE OBVIOUS THAN BEFORE.

One of the more popular queer ships in the Spiderverse fandom is Hobie x Pav. A black man and an Asian man (South Asian specifically but still very much Asian). Now, one would expect that a movie that has so much diversity and puts an emphasis on looking at people past appearances would create a fandom where all the characters are treated like people. WRONG!!!! Pav is constantly smol baby twinkified to death and Hobie is made to be meaner and more aggressive than he ever was in canon. Here's those silly little archetypes again!

And here's a reminder of the stereotypes around these races, just in case y'all forgot.

Asian men = not manly, unathletic

Black men = scary, dangerous, hypermasculine

Mind you, neither of these characters are any of these things in canon (I mean for fucks sake PAV BACKFLIPS OUT OF BED IN THE MORNING, HE IS IN NO WAY "WEAK"). And to deviate this much says only one thing. You don't actually see these characters and people like them as individuals. Your idealized version is literally awful fucking stereotypes that get people, especially black men, killed. Tell me again how you're not racist?

Headcanons (oh lord)

These homophobic/racist characterizations bleed into headcanons as well. They are in no way mutually exclusive. If you're drawing or writing a character a certain way, you probably have headcanons to match that. And a lot of you have shown your real selves this way.

For example, this has less to do with shipping and is moreso a general fandom issue, but ppl be headcanoning Miles as poor or that he steals spray paint. Bitch, what??? Miles has a cop for a dad and a nurse for a mom, that income is fucking insane. PLUS, he goes to a private school in one of the most expensive cities in the country. They go out of their way to emphasize this in ASTV, there's a whole scene about it. He is not poor. Miles G is, but not Morales. No sir.

So, if there's no evidence to say he's poor... and it's been explicitly stated that he's not... hmm... I wonder why people would think that?

Surprise! The answer is racism.

Same thing for the stealing headcanon. He fights the spot in a deli in ASTV and still asks how much his food will be. And if his uncle was in the graffiti scene already, why would he not supply Miles with spray paint? Y'all skipped through not only his actual characterization but all the possible, legal ways he could've gotten his hands on that and went straight to stealing.

But noooo, you can't be racist if you're a Spiderverse fan, right?

But let's bounce back to sexuality for a minute. Those headcanons directly affect the way someone ships a character. Sometimes your sexuality headcanons are not coming from a good place and y'all need to know that.

I actually had a conversation with my lesbian friend today. She said a friend of ours had told her "you're going to love One Piece, there's great lesbian representation.". Like she straight up fed her the idea that Nami was a lesbian. She even told her she had a girlfriend in one of the movies. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. I'm not a One Piece fan. She also told her that Nami hated men. I read the first four volumes of One Piece. Nami does NOT hate men. She's not as friendly to men around her because she hates pirates and has a very specific dynamic with her crewmates, who are mostly male. That's two different things. So, she was telling me that she felt really disappointed that the only thing that made this character a lesbian was the fact that she didn't have a love interest and "hated men". Now, from what I understand, there are some interactions she has with women that can be read that way, again, I'm not entirely sure since I don't watch that, but the fact that this other friend's main selling point to my friend who's actually a lesbian was that there was a mean lesbian main character that hated men is kinda crazy, don't you think? (Also, side note, things are kinda weird with the one piece friend rn, we're working that shit out. So if you're wondering why we're even friends I literally found this out today so yk).

Let's think about common stereotypes about lesbians. One of the big ones is that since they're not attracted to men, they must hate them or that they're gay because they hate men. Newsflash buddy, it's kind of hard to find a woman nowadays that doesn't hate men at least a little bit, gay or not. If that was a prerequisite for being a lesbian you'd probably see a hell of a lot less straight women. Another stereotype is that if a woman shows no interest in men, she must be a lesbian. Like, no, she could be ace, she could just not want a relationship in general. I even double checked to make sure she wasn't canonically confirmed to be one so I wasn't talking out of my ass. She could be bisexual, pansexual, literally whatever kind of sapphic but your mind jumps right to lesbians because you think she hates men and she's mean? Right...

But I'm not done here, let's get into one of the more common acts of stereotyping I've seen. My ace buddies, I am SO SORRY oh my god.

Every time there's a character who is nerdy, not as social, and doesn't explicitly show attraction to anyone, they get headcanoned as aromantic and asexual. I actually wanna applaud the One Piece fandom real quick because the amount of people who fuck with the Luffy is asexual headcanon is great. He's the exact opposite of the type of character that commonly gets headcanoned to be asexual. This is the kind of stuff I want to see. Headcanons based on things the character actually says and does and not stereotypes. Shout out to y'all, back to the ranting I guess.

One of the more annoying things I've noticed is that autistic coded characters are usually the most likely to be headcanoned as asexual. Now, if you know anything about how autistics are viewed in society you'd know people think we don't have sex, don't know what it is, all sorts of other shit. So to see that constantly, it really bothers me and I'm sure it bothers the aces out her as well. The idea that the only way you can exist is as a socially awkward "undatable" character must be really awful to see. It's either that, or they attach that label to characters that hate love or look down upon people who have romantic relationships. Or maybe you might get someone who thinks a character is too cute and innocent for sex and gives them that label. Again, more negative stereotypes.

But when there's actually an ace character and they don't fit people's idea of what an asexual looks or acts like, or if they're attracted to them, they just ignore that part of them and do whatever they want.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who made it this far. This is a very necessary conversation and I know it's gonna ruffle several feathers but in times like these it's important that we recognize how our hatred affects others.

But yeah, onto *why* this is important.

The post I reblogged and responded to was somebody comparing a certain type of canon shippers to Trump supporters. I explained why they weren't right but not exactly wrong either. There's a direct correlation between the way they thought about shipping and the rhetoric of the right. Remember, the same people fetishizing others and disguising stereotypes as headcanons and creative liberties were right next to you in the voting booth deciding whether or not you should have rights.

The truth is, this election showed us that we truly cannot trust each other as much as we thought we could. The people we thought were our allies sold us for their own validation or to make their groceries cost less (which won't even happen btw but I digress). The people who were holding our rights over our heads were busy taking that from others in other countries, and also just straight up murdering them (free Palestine y'all. And Congo. And Hawaii. And Sudan. And Haiti. There's a lot. Colonialism knows no bounds). And after the election? Poc were continuously excluded from the conversation even though we're the most affected on every front, and when we were brought up it was to tell ppl some of us voted against our own kind.

This post is to make y'all better allies. This post is to make you more conscious of the things you're saying and doing. This post is to remind you that art has power and you need to use it responsibly. It's here to show you that just because someone identifies the same way as you or is okay with the idea of your identity, does not mean they're on your side. And your vote does not absolve you of your own biases. You can still vote blue and be racist. You can still like media with a bunch of representation and still hate the groups of people in it.

And in a way, this post is kind of for me too. As a black queer person who's been in fandoms since they were 10, I've only become more frustrated. It's become such a hostile environment for minorities of all kinds and I'm tired. I needed to get this out somehow. Y'all can't keep getting away with this, you're ruining it for everybody in these fandoms and in the world.

5. Hoffman. yeah he's inconsistently written as hell and the way he was handled in Saw 3D makes me want to eat drywall, but I love an absolute irredeemable bastard of a villain and he's just fun except when he's not. also I told my two cousins about "epic bad luck" and "we're all the same color on the inside" and they both lost their shit laughing, which was beautiful to me. they truly gave my man some of the worst lines in the entire Saw canon and I kind of love that <3

4. Perez. no explanation needed I think but she's gorgeous, she's smart, she's a badass, she's the only one who sees through Hoffman, she needed so much more screentime!! and she was/is one of my favorite characters to write in fanfics.

3. Adam! my boy. I adore his sense of humor, his empathy, his strong emotions, his shady morality but kind heart despite the shitty circumstances he's having to live in. his fate makes my heart hurt. it's devastating and it's our first indication of what John's "philosophy" really amounts to. the way he haunts both Amanda and Lawrence is just. chef's kiss even if the latter was more just... implied than explored. he and Amanda need to be BFFs in Saw fics more often.

2. Strahm. he's such a dick and for what. I ADORE obsessive and messy and impulsive and flawed characters who fuck up repeatedly, and I love it when they're tragic because they fully doomed themselves with their choices, but their choices were inevitable because of who they are as a person. I also love both the water cube scene and the ending of Saw V, they're such fun traps and such iconic scenes. and I may or may not have noticed his eyelashes a few times. sue me.

and 1. AMANDA. she's the beating heart of this whole franchise and I will die on that hill. she's such an incredibly complex and tragic and beautifully written character and I will throw hands with anyone who insults her. and she is THE horror lesbian to me. love the toxic yuri with Lynn, and her vulnerability and messy emotions and empathy for the trap victims, and the way she struggles with the weight of her own actions. she's such an icon. if I ever write Saw fic again (unlikely at this point but hey! no telling the future!) it will be either about her or about Perez.

I really wanted to write a love triangle between Fiona/Yuri/Chloe, mainly because of the Wheeler arc in the Manga.

because at one point we have:

Fiona still being coo coo over Twilight.

And I wanted to write a short fic where Fiona sees Chloe and Captian retrieve Yuri, but thinks it's Twilight!Yuri. Then Fiona sneaks into hq/hospital/ [name place here] to rescue him before they figure it out its a disguise.

Fiona in full Delulu mode confesses her love to Twilight to a K.O.d Yuri Briar (lol he'll be fine) but CHLOE overhears the confession and now is jealous that the twerp (Her gremlin! Chloe's obnoxious coworker!) had a girlfriend this whole time!

Something Something

It ends with Twilight recovering at home with his wife and kiddo. Fiona is at peace for finally confessing her love and is just waiting for Twilight to realize it.

And Yuri is now being actively pursued by Chloe who is accusing him of having a girlfriend in secret. She is giving him the shakedown of all shakedowns and Yuri clues into Chloe maybe having feels for him.

I just couldn't write it to work out really. Not enough people were lined up and I ended up writing Mistaken instead. (Which turned into the bane of my writing existence for a few months)

when I started shipping it if I did: I started shipping them about a year after I got involved in the Vesperia fandom, so about 9 years ago.

my thoughts: HHHHH my otp for the game. I love them. But I'm also kind of glad they aren't canon because I don't trust Bamco to write them well.

What makes me happy about them: There 2-3 years pre-game when Flynn and Estelle were each other's only friend and I think about it constantly. (Well, Yuri was still Flynn's friend, but after Yuri left the Knights they weren't really lose for those years). Flynn was the first person to show Estelle friendship, and I aaaaaa.

What makes me sad about them: Probably just that they're a rarepair so there's like, next to no content. In canon, thinking about Flynn's role in Alexei's coup and thus his guilt over what happened to Estelle because of him is SO SAD.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: Well, there isn't really much fanfic in the first place, but of the fanfic that exists, I with there was more that dug into the deeper aspects of them. Like, I don't think the way they are in canon is the set-up for a healthy long-term relationship. They've both got some idealized images of the other to work through (of seeing the other as a perfect knight/delicate princess). And the way they work through those unrealistic views in order to love the authentic person is a whole process that a lot of fanfic skips over.

things I look for in fanfic: I'm always looking for any sort of Flystelle fic that has some meat. Like, I can enjoy a quick shot of fluff, but like I said before, I love a fic that digs in deeper. And I am always here for hurt/comfort, but I especially like it when Flynn is the one who's hurt and Estelle supports him. Partly because Flynn is my go-to whump magnet, and partly because it's an inversion of the "expected" dynamic of a knight and a princess. I want to see the knight in peril and the princess rescue him!

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: My second choice for Estelle is Judith, and my second choice for Flynn is Yuri.

My happily ever after for them: They live together in Zaphias. Estelle is a novelist who works from home and occasionally stays with Rita in Halure for extended periods, usually whenever Flynn is going to be out of town on Knight business for a while. They have a family and work together with Ioder to bring reforms to the Empire. Estelle's biggest job is making sure Flynn doesn't overwork himself.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: Estelle is big spoon when she drags Flynn away from work and pulls him into bed and holds him tight so he can't sneak out to write one more report. Flynn defaults to big spoon in other cases by virtue of being significantly taller so it's just easier.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Just sitting around talking. Discussing the books they've read and places they've been and ideas for the empire. They just enjoy each other's company.

Now Judelle!

when I started shipping it if I did: I think it was around 5 years ago. One day I was watching the scene where Yuri talks to Judith in Zaphias castle after the Sword Stair, and the way Judith talks about Estelle suddenly clicked and I said "oh no I ship it now."

my thoughts: Estelle is the anchor that pulled Judith out of drifting aimlessly with Ba'ul. Judith has such a subdued way of speaking, but when she talks about Estelle, she sounds fiercely protective.

What makes me happy about them: I love both of them opening up each other's worlds. Judith represents the freedom Estelle was denied all her life, while Estelle is the stability Judith hasn't had in a long time. I just think they're cute

What makes me sad about them: They're even more of a rarepair so it's almost impossible to find content. I'm pretty sure they only have 1 fic on ao3 and that was written by me.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: Well... there is no fanfic.

things I look for in fanfic: I just want them to be happy and giggly and have fun together. I think they would both make each other better people, with Judith encouraging Estelle to focus and Estelle encouraging Judith to take part in the world and open herself to others.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Estelle with Flynn, and Judy with Yuri. Those are my two top ships for Vesperia, so Judelle is more of the "if not those other two, this one" option.

My happily ever after for them: They don't live together, because Judith wouldn't want to be grounded all the time, while Estelle does want to settle. They get together whenever they can. Judith writes her letters while sitting on Ba'ul's back, and Estelle always gets excited when she sees that speck in the distance of Ba'ul flying toward Zaphias.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: Estelle tries really hard to be big spoon, but Judith tackled her into a bear hug.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Heading out into the world and exploring.

Alright, on to characters.

Alexei:

How I feel about this character: He's an amazing character. He's a poorly utilized character. He's so complex. He's a one-note villain. I think I see a lot more in him that a lot of people do, and all my interpretations are drawing directly from things he says and does in game, but also at some point reading between the lines becomes doing the writers' jobs for them. I don't know. I really like him.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I don't really ship him romantically with anyone, but I'm a fan of fucked-up and unhealthy one-sided Yuri/Alexei, and also fucked-up and unhealthy Flynn/Alexei where Alexei is using Flynn's crush on him to manipulate him. Both of these are sorta ships but mostly the premise for drama and angst fics. Oh also his unnamed OC ex-wife who dumped him and triggered a midlife crisis.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I'm also interested in Flynn and Alexei's relationship in a non-romantic context, but also I like the idea of Duke and Alexei being estranged friends. I like to imagine they were close friends who joined the Knights together, making them an even closer parallel for Yuri and Flynn

My unpopular opinion about this character: I think he has clear motivation for his actions in canon. I know a lot of people say he's just vaguely evil for world domination, but without even looking at content from side materials, he's pretty direct in canon about wanting to reform the Empire in a similar way that Flynn does. He has all the same ideals that Flynn does, but was disillusioned after the war that he could achieve those goals without going to extremes.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Not die at Zaude!!!! I've said this a thousand times but he should have been the final villain. He's got all this personal drama with the heroes and then he just dies and we go into act 3 with no one to fight against. And he was just getting really interesting when he realizes he fucked up with Zaude but he died before getting a chance to explore that realization.

my OTP: I mean.... nothing romantic really. Either of the aforementioned Yuri or Flynn angst relationships are good.

my cross over ship: Hm.... I am wracking my brain and cannot think of any.

a headcanon fact: I think a lot of his more grandiose villainy is an intentional act - he failed to save the world as a hero, so he's going to do it as a villain. He'll play the role of villain if that's what the world needs of him, and I think framing it that way in his mind helps him distance himself from what he's doing

And finally, dear Judy

How I feel about this character: She's super cool! I find her hard to write and it's hard to find fics that I feel really nail her. She's so... slippery. Both blunt and subtle. I love the way she slowly opens up to the others over the course of the game.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Yuri, Estelle, and Flynn are the main ones. I can enjoy Judith/Rita content sometimes too.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: All of the above romantic ships are also good friendships. I love the way Yuri and Judy vibe together, whether they're romantic partners or not. And also her relationship with Ba'ul!

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't know if this is widespread enough to be an unpopular opinion, but I don't believe she and Rita are sisters.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish she and Yuri had continued the flirty banter they had in Ghasfarost, and I wish she and Yuri had a more in-depth talk about what she did after Nordopolica and his feelings about punishing her for that, both for Yuri's development and her own.

my cross over ship: Judy/Izumi Curtis from FMA would be amazing

a headcanon fact: She doesn't "talk" to Ba'ul with words and full sentences, it's more like a telepathic exchange of emotions and images and moods. She's spent so long primarily communicating with him in this way that she's sort of forgotten how to talk to people with spoken language, which is why she can seem a little weird sometimes.

the Yuri on Ice relapse is a thing and the withdrawal is a thing too that anime is a fucking drug I don't know how I don't know why but it is. it legit got me spiralling on Tumblr and Twitter, just searching for ice adolescence.

after that search I came to the conclusion that iceAdo is probably selved until further notice, mainly bc there is an anon Twitter account basically saying they are a Mappa employee; tweeting that Mappa won't ever announce that they are cancelling IceAdo bc it would look bad on investors but honestly idk like... leaving fans hanging with no answer also looks bad for the investors no?

furthermore, the whole Avex & Mappa thing with YoI couldn't be ignored either but it just boiled down to money. mappa wanted more money and Avex locked them in a contract that cut Mappa very little money (allegedly). Some fans speculate that Mappa is delaying IceAdo bc they want to pressure Avex but again it is all speculation.

honestly, after all that, I just opened AO3 and read every YoI fanfic I could find bc I have little to no hope that IceAdo is coming. the worst part about all this is that YoI is an original anime, therefore there is no official continuation apart from animation. it is also unlikely that Avex or Mappa gonna hand over production to another studio bc let's be real here, YoI put Mappa on the map, there is no denying that.

But then again it is not impossible bc Wit studio (the studio that originally produced Attack on Titan and whose name was put on the map by AOT) handed over production to Mappa bc they have no time to produce the final season.

This kinda shows that to handover production is possible but then again, we are talking about mappa here... infamous for overworking their employees and underpaying them among other things (allegedly)

anyhow, I'm saying IceAdo is possible but the possibility is... less than 10% (In my humble and limited opinion)

Might write fanfic of trans Tohno Shiki confessing to Inui Arihiko and developing an even more loving relationship than before while not changing too much about what made them fall in love in the first place. Inui Arihiko is literally easily the one with the most chemistry with Tohno Shiki and arguably the only one with any decent amount of believability without the aid of being a protagonist in an eroge, a guy surrounded by girls that conveniently love him despite all his bullshit while being a teenager and fighting over him and heteronormativity hell, etc etc you get the picture.

Literally the only reason there's no romance or h scenes with Inui Arihiko in neither Tsukihime or even more ridiculously in Kagetsu Tohya is just homophobia and heteronormativity. Of course the guy best friend with the most chemistry before and after the story starts isn't an option for romance, heterosexual otaku men would shit themselves over the mere presence of it like they'd shit themselves over the presence of men in yuri, they are of course the presumed audience at all times in this sort of eroge, the creators probably don't even consider it outside of potential doujinshi, and of course it's 2000 and 2001 respectively, not that things have gotten that much better since.

Like sorry, but even within the context given of the story and its plot beats, the most believable girl to actually be interested in Tohno Shiki is Yumizuka Satsuki, and she doesn't even have a route yet with one probably able to win easy bet money that she doesn't get one by Tsukihime's 25th anniversary. And as far as route girls go, the most likely would be his sister Tohno Akiha.

Arcueid got cut into 17 pieces by him and she gets treated dickishly by this literal teenager who also gets close to raping her at one point.

Ciel is a 24 year old woman with a job at the church who gets written like a literal child sometimes just to have cat fights over the protagonist but in real life would probably think he's a victim getting wrapped up in supernatural issues at the best of times and a little shit like when he threatens to rape her to get what he wants at the worst.

Hisui is literally afraid of the touch of men and probably wouldn't want someone who can't even respect her wishes of keeping the lights off at her most vulnerable moment, let alone want to associate with another so potentially dangerous Tohno.

Do I even need to explain with Kohaku? That ribbon be doing wonders for all she's been through and how she feels about the Tohno family in general. She's clearly taking intimacy where she can and can I can get why and believe that she wouldn't hate his guts, but other than being the one guy her age in her life he doesn't have much going in terms of actual appeal for her, other than saying some nice things sometimes with some of those moments being when he confuses her for her sister.

Akiha at the very least could be argued to have the least amount of reason to have a vendetta against him other than maybe Hisui depending on how deeply pained she might feel for her sister, and also has the benefit for having no fear of a man's touch and could probably handle Tohno Shiki's consent issues far better. There's not a whole lot going on in favour of Akiha loving him so much as the path of least resistance such as having an actual history that wouldn't connect him to as much trauma as much as the sisters who are literally trying to and complicit in trying to kill the entire Tohno family or at least those within the mansion. Maybe Hisui would be most likely if one made Akiha not incestuous but that would be changing her character a bit much given her role in the story I'd argue, it's debatable though.

But yeah, Yumizuka Satsuki at least before becoming a vampire (hard to tell afterwards given she hasn't gotten a route where she doesn't end up dying), and especially Inui Arihiko are the most believable and could even be argued to be the only ones that make a decent amount of sense realistically, though I wouldn't go that far personally. Just another obvious male to male paring victim to homophobia and heteronormativity. Didn't mean to make this post so long, but oh well, lol.

I feel like I can't speak on DE just because I haven't finished or explored it as thoroughly as I'd like to yet. For MXTX books... God I'll be so honest it was silly and fun the first time, but I cringe rereading the whole Statue Mecha scene near the end of TGCF. It's so ridiculous and outlandish that it breaks emersion for me a bit.

And I guess there's a part of me squinting at it going, "Isn't there something a little weird about ascribing transmasculinity to a character who -- in the real world -- is part of a race that's often feminized (the "pretty Asian boy" stereotype) and is visually the most slender and short of the male characters? Like? That feels a little weird to me, ya'll..."

(Like, not saying stop, I get it, and the fanfics handle it really well on the whole, but also like... I think it's worth asking ourselves (1) WHY Kim gets this treatment over Harry or another character and (2) WHAT kinds of queerness we're ascribing onto characters. Total works: 55 (there are a couple stragglers under another pseud, not counted because they're hubby's.) You would think that ICOFBG would have passed the Merlin fic by now but it picked up steam this year and they're gaining at about the same rate. Pocketful is doing very well for a fic told by Sir Not Appearing in This Film. It's honestly probably the best thing I've written from a sheer complexity and execution standpoint. I still can't believe I wrote the whole thing.

About the process: Most things that I write end up being written in one big lump. The Merlin fic was not... 2016 was a crazy productive year for me because I used writing to dissociate from some very gross real world stuff that was happening, and I started writing the Merlin fic, picked up Check Please, wrote a bunch there and then came back and finished the Merlin thing, then dove into Yuri on Ice and came out of all of that with two unfinished series (Check Please, Yuri on Ice) and a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. I spent the first 3 months of the pandemic doing absolutely nothing except listening to audiobooks and playing digital jigsaws, and then I needed a break for my hands from the digital jigsaws and watched The Untamed and haven't really emerged since from that fandom. But 2021 was not really a writing year, I had like one charity thing that was fast and didn't take a lot of time, so I was like, Hey, that was fun, I can do TWO in 2022, and then the first one took 2 1/2 months to write, months to edit and 6 weeks to post to the point where I was basically doing nothing but that story for 4 1/2 months and then I opened the next project and...

Well, it turned out I'd set that aside for a reason and it took me longer to make myself write 18k than it had to entirely write and post 180k. I did it, but I'm a bit burnt out for a while. The only solution I know to burnout is to do something else, so I've been playing Skyrim this year. I did Fallout 4 earlier in the year. At this point the fact that they came out with a 10 year old game in a remaster that did not fix the bugs of the original is just funny. I hold my fic to a higher standard than they hold their paid-for game and boy howdy isn't that just how it goes. More user stats below the cut if you're remotely curious.

I tend to go into writing mode once or twice a year, sometimes I don't some years, sometimes I'll write like five stories in a row in a series. This is probably not a writing year unless an idea bites me hard, as I'm not doing any challenges/charity auctions this year.
