I have to confess I'm always a bit fascinated when I see an artist posting huge quantities of Homestuck fanart, then I creep their archive and it turns out they only got into it, like, last month. It's interesting to see how people interpret the various characters' designs without the context of fifteen years worth of fandom discourse bullshit constraining them. A decade ago that blonde Vriska would have gotten them hounded off the Internet, and now it's just a thing you can do!

Gamzee - I feel absolutely feral over any of the purplebloods, but especially Gamzee. I love him so much. Probably a big part of it is that he's a capricorn and that we both have similar home lives. But I've always found him to be the coolest character, I wish he had more screentime. I love that he's a look into childhood trauma and religious trauma, something that a lot of people, especially where I live in America, are subjected to. He's so loyal to his religion, and there's a multitude of reasons as to why that could be, but he doesn't have an identity out of it, which is how a lot of people with religious trauma feel. You lose not only yourself but the people around you due to religion, and I think all the purplebloods are a prime example of that and the mentality that "the church knows what's best for you, others don't". Also Gamzee in homestuck is very passive most of the time, he offers advice no one takes, he is always there to listen but no one asks if he's good, and he's kind of tossed aside until he has a meltdown/goes sober. I think it's relatable to a lot of people because once you stop being the chill friend and you start setting boundaries or you start cutting people off, suddenly you're the bad guy. If me and gamzee met I think we'd be cool with each other, not even joking. I think I'm open minded enough to listen to this fool talk about rainbows for 20 years OR to just make sure he's good (after the sober shit). I am pissed off tho over HS².

Eridan - ERIDAN MY BELOVEDDDDD. I love Eridan. The fandom does this man so dirty. Eridan literally only needed a friend. And not a friend that just tries to make him do what they want (*cough*fef*cough*). He needed a friend like Karkat (and I got hella BEEF WITH KARKAT OVER A LOT OF HIS SHIT but that's for another day). Eridan literally felt like he was more friends with Karkat and anyone else, and it's because Karkat literally gave him his own options, not just tell Eridan what to do. He literally couldn't stand Sollux, and not even in a kismisis way, but like a genuine distain and whenever he tried to express that people tried to force a relationship on him that wasn't even true. It wasn't like what he had with Veiska were they wouldn't hurt each other, like Eridan literally wanted Sollux dead and his friends were like "we get it you wanna fuck—" NO B HE DID NOT WANT TO. LISTEN WHEN HE TALKS FFS. Eridan deserved so much better, bro. If we met he'd call me a slur but I think just like with Gamzee I'd have the patience to listen to him and actually be like "well why is that" and he'd be able to let off steam. I miss the bastard.

BONUS:

Chahut - adding hiveswap too just for the fun of it. But like I said, I love the fuckin clownsssss. I love how relatable chahut is because like this girl is going through hard emotions with going off planet and being an adult. She's so terrified of growing up that she's reckless. It's literally all over her pesterquest that she's doing stuff TO get in trouble or the possibility OF getting in trouble so she has an excuse to not grow up. Which I totally get as a 23 year old, I'm absolutely terrified of being 25 and the thought of it terrifies me due to trauma. I love her character because she has this front and it's so clear it's a front but it's also not COMPLETELY a front. Like, she's playing a character and the character is herself type stuff. If I met her in person though she'd either kill me or we'd go to church together and I'd get the shit beat out of me there, tho.

Zebruh - I just like this dude because he's a stinky, filthy, evil, awful Stan. He's manipulative and horrid. I like that in a man. If we met he'd probably get in my pants bc I'm too nervous to say no, tho. Also his dad would terrify the crap out of me and call me a slur.

Feel free to ramble and overshare if you want, I'd actually love to hear all of it from anybody who's willing to share, because I'm very curious as to why people love the HS characters they do so much. We all kind of fixate on that one character, and tbh most of the characters I don't really get, so I'd like to hear what makes each character special to yall, so that maybe I can understand the appeal of more of them. :)

I think HOPE would be desolation bc desolation is all about destroying hope!!! Like eridan could be an avatar of the desolation, bc being the prince of hope means he was destined to destroy hope/destroy through hope.

Yea that actually makes a lot more sense! Then rage would probably be the Hunt? Or the slaughter? Idk but it can be fun to think abt these!!
