,,,,,I am now begging twitter to cite their sources. what is this, who wrote it, what context was it posted in, was it even posted.
Best I could find as a source is someone in some reposts comments saying this was on old document shared a while back as an example of one of their pitch documents. That seems plausible, but isn't a reliable source
If you do a reverse image search, it does seem to link to a now deleted tweet by Linke, so at best I can say that he has interacted with this image. (If anyone knows how to restore a deleted tweet, please let me know, the waybackmachine turns up empty)
#i do think this is most likely real but my whole point is that i can only find embellished hearsay so far#also im not going discuss the contents of this until i know the actual context but it reads like a standard aesthetics pitch doc#also if you want to get pissed about the pop culture quote (from 2012 “Girls” where it gets said by a gay man apparently)#at least get pissed about the reference to an antisemetic pop culture figure too (although it seems to be used removed from its origin??)#never heard the term before but also decidedly not my place to decide on. im only qualified for the queerphobia aspect#mom look i got an ask#i might have to get a separate tag for this at this point. but i dont want to#arcane#arcane season 2#christian linke#sidenote but as a german it is fucking me up to keep talking about Christian Linke when Christian Lindner just ruined our government#and we have a Linke party

Lisztober #14: Perdendosi
I proudly present: A song about the difficulty of learning to love silence, written by someone who can never sit still, always has to be busy with something and has a huge coffee problem. Yeahy! Best combo! It must be so beautiful, the silence. So another real downer today before we get steamy again tomorrow. Otherwise we'll all get depressed. @franzliszt-official : Sorry in advanced that we have to praise your body again tomorrow. But, alas, we love your soul, too. <3
‘What had he forgotten and why? As soon as someone had said something, he forgot it again without the other person realising it, because he was able to give everyone else the wonderful feeling that he was interested in them,’ writes Christian Lindner (the author, not the German politician of the same name) in his book “Sommermusik” about Liszt.
In Franz's life before Weimar, there were always times when he wanted to stop the restless life he was leading. Times when he briefly disappears and then returns reinvented (and louder). At the peak of Lisztomania, he collapses with a fever after touring life, with all its ups and downs, takes its toll. But he doesn't care. The show must go on. He is driven to compose; driven to catch up his lack of schooling in Raiding through self-study...and everything always has to be perfect. Perfect. Perfect! He writes and listens, he reads and enjoys …and tortures his fingers on his mute wooden travelling piano (which is in Weimar and is so beautiful and sad... if you ever make a pilgrimage there, you'll understand me) in the carriage to ever more difficult feats. (And then someone comes along and says Thalberg was better? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, CLARA?)
And then he sits on a bench here on Nonnenwerth early in the morning and looks at the same sky I'm looking at right now, the mountains once again shrouded in mist, cut off from all the hustle and bustle, while the hysterical Marie has fallen asleep in her bed after yet another row. And he looks out over the Rhine and thinks about his death. And from a letter to Marie, we learn how things must really have been for him at times: ‘You feel it, you know it. For me, there is nothing but grief, ennui, and bitter, anxious sadness in all these things. After all, I am not completely extinguished; however arid and monotonous the path may be, I will walk it to the end.’ Oh, Franz.
We wanted to do the exact opposite musically for today's theme ‘Perdendosi’, i.e. a bit of a crescendo, while the text fights against it, but 24 hours is not enough for that. So let's channel a bit of Evanescence, with a wind machine and flying crows. That's okay too ;)
Incidentally, the refrain is from the poem ‘Vereinsamt’ by Friedrich Nietzsche, who could also write really beautiful things before syphilis and the f***** Wagners made him so shitty.
Welcome back to the Liszt musical!
The silence is dreadful The silence does not stop It roars in his ears And he can hardly stand it And yet in the silence A strange power He cannot remember What it does to him The crows fly swiftly to the city Soon it will snow Blessed is he who still has Has a home now His trembling floats way Has yielded to nature it joins a heart That lies to itself His hands are heavy And motionless on the lap The hardest of all etudes Is his own lot The crows fly swiftly to the city Soon it will snow Blessed is he who still has Has a home now Silence becomes a lover Which he spurned before And a feeling of warmth Blows through his body It is as if an angel Has taken pity on his soul And God's bright lights Made their way to him Don't go away! Don't leave me alone! Where everything is loud, nobody can hear you scream! The crows fly quickly to the city Soon it will snow Blessed is he who still has Home now The life he knew Can no longer continue on The notes he never played He can now understand them

i don’t know a word a word of german but it looks like you guys are either having a tremendous amount of fun or Going Through It bad. or both at the same time
both. definitely both. for me, the fact that the coalition has failed is kinda whatever, and it's been tremendous fun watching the most annoying libertarian (christian lindner, ex-minister of finance as of 24h ago) get sacked and badmouthed by olaf scholz (current chancellor), who for maybe the first time in his life showed some spine while doing so
however, new elections will happen in march (some politicians demand even january) and they will mean the end of the somewhat progressive government we have had for the past three years, because the cdu (fairly conservative) and the afd (far-right) will be the winners (although so far every party refuses to work with the afd so their chances of actually governing are very low)
but for now it's all fun and games and a good chance to make fun of some politicians!

English translation (more or less):
Group around CDU politician Wanderwitz
113 MPs submit application for AfD ban proceedings
For months, a cross-party group has been working to initiate proceedings to ban the AfD. Now, according to SPIEGEL information, the members of the Bundestag have submitted their application. It is expected to be discussed in December.
Consultations before Christmas
The parliamentarians want to ensure that an application to ban the AfD is submitted to the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe before the next federal election and, if possible, examined.
Due to the premature end of the traffic light government and the associated new parliamentary elections, the plans now came under time pressure.
Context:
The "Ampelkoalition" (literally, "street light coalition", more information on Wikipedia) recently had a political upheaval with the firing of the German finance minister, Christian Lindner due to arguments about the federal budget and missing money (some more on that, in German, from the Tagesshau - you can use Google Translate if you're unable to read the German).
Now, Lindner was a member of the FDP, a political party that formed the Ampel coalition, which makes their coalition look bad and fractured the coalition. This has incited a change in Germany's federal election date, which is currently discussed to be 23rd February, 2025 (Tagesschau). This election is to be a "vote of confidence" - effectively, the German people will be voting if they do indeed trust the current government.
While all of this is going on, a petition has been brought to Germany's Federal Constitutional Court (AKA Supreme Court), where it is based in Karlsruhe, to disband the AfD (long form name: Alternative für Deutschland; AKA Nazis, as close as current German government regulations can be loopholed for political parties).
The three parties in the Ampel coalition are the FDP, SDP, and Die Grünen. The FDP is "Freie Demokratische Partei", the SDP is "Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands", and Die Grünen is "Bündnis 90/Die Grünen". All of these are what can be considered "left-ish" to an American perspective, in the sense of being focused on, as a coalition, various aspects of democracy, socialism, and environmentalism.
This is not a one-to-one of the US Democratic party, and like all political coalitions, has its own share of infighting due to different and sometimes competitive goals.
This will be a critical time for Germans to vote, as the Ampel coalition has been a strong political force for a while, and their main opponents in political approach and ideology have been - to be a little reductionist - the AfD, the CDU (Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands), and CSU (Christlich-Soziale Union in Bayern).
The CDU is very religious, as demonstrated in their name, and the CSU is the Bavarian-specific version of the CDU (more or less). Bavaria is a significantly-sized state in south-eastern Germany, and its economic strength compared to the rest of Germany has had an impact on national politics despite its distinct cultural identity in comparison to the rest of Germany.
As far as I can tell, there is not (currently) a competitive coalition or political party to leverage the power vacuum of the Ampel coalition that would otherwise be taken up by the AfD and their cohort. What will happen up to election time is up for debate, but this is the current state of events.

There is always risk in pulling a quote from the Internet from someone famous; often the quotes are paraphrased, falsely attributed, or just plain made up. But this past week really deserves the following quote, purportedly from the father of the Russian revolution, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
He said: “There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.”
Where do we even start looking back at the last seven days?
The collapse of the Democrat Party was on full display this past Tuesday here in America. And its fallout — from a billion dollar election war chest to $20 million in debt — is a scathing indictment of the stench of dysfunction in this country. But really, that’s the just start of some of the wild news that emerged from countries around the globe this week.
Germany — The three-party coalition government effectively collapsed, according to The Guardian, after Chancellor Olaf Scholz unexpectedly fired Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who is also leader of the coalition member Free Democratic Party. The country’s instability comes at a most inopportune time; Germany’s economy is about to implode from looney-tunes ‘green’ policies that have crippled the energy and manufacturing sectors. Watch this story as it unfolds, it is absolutely one of the saddest tales of complex incompetence that has the potential to set off an economic crisis of epic proportions.
Israel — Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu dismissed his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday, and by Wednesday, Israelis were protesting in the streets of Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem, as reported by Sky News. Netanyahu attributed the firing to a "crisis of trust,” while Gallant appeared to press for a hostage deal in Gaza, drafting Orthodox Jews into the military, and an inquiry into the failures around the October 7, 2023 terror attack. Of course, given the ongoing hostilities with its neighbors, uncertainty and instability is breeding ground for error or worse, erratic decisions. Hear that ‘tick tick tick’ sound? You know what that is. Be prepared mentally, spiritually and any other way you can think of.
Spain — Two words you don’t often see in the same sentence: Spain and flooding. But over the past couple of weeks, Spain has suffered terrible flash flooding. About two weeks ago, in Valencia, almost 1.5 feet of rain fell in just eight hours. This past week, rain came down so quickly in the coastal town of Cadaques, that a torrent of water washed 30 or more vehicles down the street piling them up against a bridge like so many dinky toys. Unlike Valencia though, there was no loss of life in Cadaques (thankfully). Protests have been reported — lots of angry people are watching government inaction as confirmation of its contempt for its citizens.
Taiwan — Now this is what you call ‘just-in-time’ delivery! From The Defense Post:Taiwan has received its first batch of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) from the United States, Taipei’s defense ministry said Wednesday, as the island races to boost its defenses against a potential Chinese attack.Washington has long been Taipei’s most important ally and biggest arms supplier — angering Beijing, which claims Taiwan as part of its own territory. In the past five decades, the United States has sold Taiwan billions of dollars worth of military equipment and ammunition, including F-16 fighter jets and warships.Of note, the HIMARS system can fire a variety of munitions, including the Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), which Taiwan has also purchased. Given a range of about 186 miles, which means it can reach mainland China, the ATACMS system is just another finger poke in the Chinese eye.

Einmal DFB-Pokalsieger, einmal UEFA-Cup-Sieger, fünfmal deutscher Vizemeister, dreimal deutscher Vizepokalsieger, einmal Vizeeuropapokalsieger.

2024 / 06
Aperçu of the Week:
"The goal constantly recedes before us. Satisfaction is in the effort, not the achievement. Total effort is total success."
(Mohandas Karamchand "Mahatma" Gandhi - Indian lawyer, publicist, moral teacher, ascetic and pacifist who became the spiritual and political leader of the Indian independence movement)
Bad News of the Week:
Germany is once again the "sick man of Europe", writes the political magazine Cicero in a newsletter. This goes back to a term coined by the economics professor and President of the ifo Institute for Economic Research Hans Werner Sinn in 2003. He was referring to an ossified state that is unable to change as quickly as required by changing conditions. And which is therefore threatened by stagnation, which in view of the general dynamics effectively means a step backwards. As a result, economic and welfare state reforms took place with "Agenda 2010" under the Social Democratic Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, which, according to Sinn's metaphor, brought about a "recovery" of the "sick" economy.
Is it that time again? Does Germany need therapy for more flexibility? If you were to ask Brussels at the moment, the answer would probably be yes. Because the European Union has every reason to think that Germany is rigid, stagnant and backward-looking. And this is due to the Liberals, the Free Democrats in Germany (FDP). The smallest partner in the coalition currently in power at federal level (with the Social Democrats and the Greens) is standing on the brakes and clinging to the past. So much for the "progressive coalition" label that they pinned on themselves after the 2021 election.
There were already dark omens. From the outset, FDP Transport Minister Volker Wissing had shown little ambition to achieve the climate protection targets in his area of responsibility. He was stingy towards rail and public transport and doggedly defended the stupid concept of e-fuels, as he wanted to be "open to technology". It was therefore no wonder that Germany opposed the fade-out on combustion engines for trucks and buses at the last minute at EU level - because if not all coalition partners go along, Germany has to officially abstain, which in effect is like a rejection.
And this was not an outlier. Barely a week earlier, exactly the same thing happened. It was about a supply chain law (important for environmental protection and against child labor, among other things) that had already been negotiated at length and in detail, and was originally even a German idea. Here, too, the FDP suddenly thought that this would demand too much of its favorite clientele, i.e. the economy. Conclusion: the party wants to protect neither nature as a whole nor individual beings, but the market and share prices. The impression is slowly growing in the EU that Germany can no longer be relied upon. Its decisions are just as erratic as Hungary's. Ouch.
Remarkably, it is the FDP party leader and Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner of all people who is now stating that "Germany (is) not the sick man of Europe, but out of shape". His party repeatedly complains that it is unable to distinguish itself sufficiently within the coalition. This would be the reason why the FDP remains stable below 5% in current election forecasts - in other words, it would be kicked out of the Bundestag at the next election. I would therefore almost wish them to dissolve the coalition and call early elections in which they would lose. The only problem is that the conservatives from the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) would then come to power. And against them, with their current downright reactionary party leader Friedrich Merz, even the FDP looks modern and contemporary. Dilemma.
Good News of the Week:
After Giorgia Meloni of the Fratelli d'Italia in Italy, a right-wing populist has also won the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands: Geert Wilders from the Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV / Party for Freedom). He has been a member of parliament in the so-called Second Chamber of the States General since 1998. For years, the blonde avenging angel has been making a name for himself as a flawless right-winger, especially against everything that is not blonde - commonly known as immigrants. He is so outspoken that the Dutch public prosecutor's office has even initiated legal proceedings against him for incitement to hatred. And the British Home Office imposed an entry ban on him and then actually (no joke!) had him arrested when he traveled to London anyway.
Now Wilders and his PVV have won an unexpectedly strong increase in votes in the parliamentary elections at the end of last November, becoming the strongest parliamentary group with 23%. Many political observers put this down to the fact that, on the one hand, his unusually gentle demeanor made him appear more electable than before. On the other hand, there is also a general shift to the right in the Netherlands, which likes to focus on supposed immigration problems - Wilders' apparent core competence.
Meloni actually managed to form a majority coalition with the Lega Nord and Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia and become head of state. Fortunately, Geert Wilders does not have this in common with her. Last week, negotiations to this end collapsed. Although three other right-wing parties have even made it into parliament. It is now completely open what will happen next. Will Wilders try to form a minority government? Can other parties form a majority against him? In any case, it is good news that this sleazy populist is at least not finding it easy to translate his growing popularity into actual political power.
Personal happy moment of the week:
On Sunday evening, three generations of our family were at a demonstration to manifest. Fridays for Future had postponed its actual topic and, supported by many other interest groups from society, invited people to the "Sea of Lights for Democracy" on the Theresienwiese in Munich. Up to 300,000 people came together for a serious reason where the Oktoberfest usually takes place and the focus is on fun. And they loudly opposed right-wing ideas that are gaining ground with the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland / Alternative for Germany): "Fight back and resist - against fascism in our country".
"Happy" is perhaps not the right term for my feelings at this moment. "Satisfied" is probably more accurate. Satisfied that not only the usual suspects from the young, the left and the woken were there. But also conservatives, families, senior citizens, traditionalists... - simply everyone. United in the feeling that sometimes you have to stand up for things that should actually be self-evident. For values. Because they are valuable. Never again is now!
I couldn't care less...
...that the British monarch Charles III is suffering from cancer. Every day, hundreds of his fellow countrymen receive the same diagnosis. And no one is calling for sympathy, let alone taking them up in prayers. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak would do better to reorganize the kingdom's ailing healthcare system than to use the publicity-boosting tear-jerker. Because unlike ordinary people, the Canadian head of state (yes, he still officially is) doesn't have to worry about excellent medical care.
It's fine with me...
...that the term "race" remains in our constitution. In the coalition agreement of the federal government, it was agreed to remove the term from Article 3 of the Basic Law. Article 3 states: "No one may be disadvantaged or favored because of their gender, their origin, their race, their language, their homeland and origin, their faith, their religious or political views." Opponents of this wording fear that the word "race" alone is racist. Supporters see problems in finding a legally equivalent substitute formulation. I think that everyone knows what is meant.
Post Scriptum
The Appeals Court has ruled: Donald Jessica Trump cannot invoke presidential immunity. His lawyers had argued that he was protected against prosecution in office - even for his role in storming the Capitol to prevent the appointment of his successor Joe Biden. Now he can be investigated and impeachment has become a possibility. Unfortunately, this will achieve nothing. Because the next legal step will inevitably lead to the Supreme Court. Which was largely appointed by him. At the very least, he can then expect the proceedings to be delayed until after the election in early November. And then, as we know, Trump intends to appoint a loyal MAGA head to the Department of Justice who, like him, sees the whole process as a partisan political "smear campaign" - and will simply have the proceedings dropped.

Ooooh boy, alright. So.
I will try and give you a summary of all the memed about things that happened since November 6th but I will probably miss a few things, so if any other Germans see this post please add on.
Basically:
For three years, the FDP, the corrupt libertarian party, with its head Christian Lindner, tried to block any good idea to help poor people, disabled people, homeless people, women, children,... Basically anyone who ever needed help ever. This of course made the government look like it never got anything done, and made Olaf Scholz look like he has never worked a day in his life. The only time I was aware of him being Kanzler was when he wore an eyepatch for three weeks after a jogging accident. This all changed on November 6th.
On November 6th, Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz asked for Minister Christian Lindner to be fired
He concluded the speech in which he did so with "... doof." which is very much how you would talk to a 4yr old
He then went on live television to basically drag Lindner through the mud publicly (which he deserved)
Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and head of the green party apparently looked like he had cried or was about to cry??? Idk I've only seen memes about this and not the actual source
Lindner was trying his best to act as the victim, and since he is the head of the FDP, he asked his party to leave with him. Which they did. All except for Volker Wissing. There are quite a lot of memes about that as well
It was clear pretty that Olaf Scholz would lose the vote about whether the parliament still trusted him and the greens (and Volker!) to govern Germany, and that there would be a snap election
At first it was said that we don't have enough paper (what?) to have the election before March.
Now the date for said election was set to be at the end of February (don't ask me why we suddenly have enough paper) which caused outrage in Köln (cologne) because of fucking Karneval
Since the last few big elections held in Germany all had the right extremist (Nazi) party AfD in first or second place, all fans of democracy got real scared about this one being so soon. Also because it was pretty likely that the CDU might be getting a lot of votes now, since they act as if they wouldn't form a coalition with the AfD. But since they have been leaning further and further to the right, who knows. Also they are very much anti trans ppl and almost as racist and sexist as the AfD while also being as corrupt as the FDP. Truly great.
Also the CDUs Kanzlerkandidat will be a man who was against making it illegal to rape your married partner. As in. If you were married to someone who raped you, it doesn't count as rape. Who also called it immoral to have marriage equality, but the rape thing is even worse, I think.
Robert Habeck announced that he is running for Chancellor. In a video. Where he wore a swiftie style bracelet that said Kanzler era (Chancellor era).
Some prick from the CDU tweeted that, if Habeck wins, that will be the fault of women because they are emotional, and so we should think about inofficially taking women's right to vote away.
That got a lot of backlash (understandable) and he changed his header to the words "women's right to vote, 1919" (pathetic)
The press now discovered that Lindner had actually planned this downfall of the government for months, because the FDP has been doing miserable in the polls for... I can't say forever but for quite a while. Which is crazy, right? Throwing the country into chaos because you are unpopular? Potentially allowing Nazis to run Germany once again because people don't like you?? Who does that???
Now. Everyone is basically stumbling into election mode. There are countless interviews and press releases. And in an interview on a podcast, Robert Habeck said that he doesn't think of Markus Söder (CSU, which is like CDU but in Bavarian) of his enemy, but thinks that Söder has a crush on him. But he doesn't reciprocate said crush.
I probably forgot something, or a lot of somethings, or messed up the time line, but these are the things ghosting around my head rn.
Do you really want to know all the T on the German government (if you're not aware already)?
Absolutely. I get a bit from the news and the bit of German I understand, but it seems like there's a lot more!

Cold winter: Chernobog
CHERNOBOG
Category: Slavic mythology
Chernobog is often invoked or name-dropped as one of the Slavic deities – but the truth is that… well maybe Chernobog does not exist at all. Yes he has a good place among the numerous Slavic gods… and yet he might be a pure invention. Let’s take a look.
I) The facts
Chernobog (the “black god”) is a god attested in texts linked to the beliefs of a specific branch of the Slavic people – the Polabian Slavs.
He first appears in the Chronicle of the Slavs”, by twelth-century German monk/chronicler Helmold who wrote it as he accompanied the Christianization process of the people of the Elbe (aka the Polabian Slavs). In his Chronicle, Helmold describes “Zcerneboch”, the “black god”, as a deity of misfortune worshipped by the tribes known as the Wagri and the Obodrites. According to him, at each feast and carousel they passed around a bowl over which they uttered words of execration in the name of two gods, a good god and a bad god. The bad god was supposed to be the one causing “adverse fortune”, and beyond “Zcerneboch” was also called “Diabol”. As for the good god, who arranges all propitious fortune, Helmold does not give his name, but people reconstructed as “Belobog” or “Bielobog”, “the white god”, to oppose Chernobog’s “black god” (Zcerneboch/Zcerneboth being the early Latinizations of the name).
We will have to wait until four centuries later to have the next mention of Chernobog. Around 1530 a Dominican monk of Pirna (Lusatia) called Johan Lindner listed the gods in his description of the pagan beliefs of the Sorbs ; but other historians of his time have strongly opposed his work as unreliable. For you see, Johan Lindner did not do any field research, all he did was collect and compile various written records and monastic sources – a wide range of documents, true, but that he just collected and compiled uncritically.
Next came in 1538 a Pomeranian chronicler named Thomas Kantzow, who wrote of the duo of gods in his “Chronicle of Pomerania”. Talking about the various idolatries of Pomerania and paganism predating the German Empire, he lists the worship of deceased kings and leaders, the worship of the sun and the moon, and finally the worship of a duo of god “venerated above all other gods”. One is Bialbug, the white god, the good god, that they honored because he brought them good things and to encourage him to keep doing good things ; the other was Zernebug, the black god, a god who was honored only so that he would stop doing harm to humanity. Kantzow also added that the better way to appease Zernebug was by offering him human blood – and from this Kantzow again, like Helmold before, identifies Zernebug with the Christian devil, as a negative entity seeking to destroy “Man’s body and soul” through a wrong and false worship.
Another text came afterward talking about Chernobog, but unrelated to Kantzow’s work: the “Cosmographiae universalis” of Sebastian Münster (German cartographer and cosmographer), published in 1550. As Münster looks at the practices of the Polibian Slavs, and after mentioning the harvest rites of Svetovit (an actual Polibian Slav god of abundance), he described as worshipped by the Rugians a duo of gods, Belbuck and Zernebuck, the white and black god acting as a “good and evil genius” or as “God or Satan”, each one acting as the source of all goodness or all evilness in the world – Münster explicitly describing this as similar “in error” to the Manichean belief. Münster’s text was copied word for word by Daniel Cramer (theologian and professor of Szczecin) in his “Pommerisches Kirchen-Chronicon”.
The last historical mention of Chernobog we have is in the anonymous “Historia Caminensis”, also based on Münster’s word and taking back his specific expressions, but this time mentioning Chernobog as the patron-god of the Vandals.
II) The interpretations
Now… Beyond these texts we have no more information about Chernobog (and Belobog his eternal partner). We don’t have texts which were written by actual “Slavic pagans”, we don’t have solid archeological traces (or just a handful), and as you probably know only fragments of the Slavic mythology(ies) survived to this day. And given these gods of good fate and bad fate were described exclusively by Christians, with strong Christian lenses, many centuries after the original Polabian Slavic religion died… While the existence of the duo is attested, it is not actually certain. In general there are four different points of view when it comes to Chernobog (and his pal).
1) We trust what these guys wrote. Chernobog and Bielobog were actually Slavic deities worshipped before the Christians arrived (or maybe they were known under other names – “black god” or “white god” might have been simply epithets or nicknames). They might have been reinterpreted the Christian way, but they did exist as gods and had their cults.
2) Chernobog and Bielobog never existed and were completely made up by those wacky Christians.
3) Chernobog and Bielobog were invented by those wacky Christians… BUT, while they did not exist as deities in the Slavic religion, the Christians invented them based on actual elements taken from Slavic religion and mythology.
4) Chernobog and Belobog were misunderstood by Christians: they were the recently-Christianized Polabian Slavs ways of interpreting the God and devil figures of Christianity, but since their grasping and assimilation of the idea wasn’t identical to what the Christians believed and preached, these monks thought that the names they called “the devil” (Chernobog, black god, evil god) actually denoted a pagan deity that happened to correspond with the Christian devil.
These are roughly the four dominating theories that have been running around, with each new debate around the Chernobog figure bringing more elements to the discussion.
# The text of Helmold became MASSIVELY popular in the 19th century, and as people reconstructed the old Slavic religion, they loved this concept of a dualistic religion. This led many scholars of the century to actually link the Polabian Slavs to the various Iranian populations, who were the poster-boys for such a “mythological Manicheism” ; comparing Chernobog and Belobog to the figures of Ahriman and Ormuzd. But this precise argument is also what put off a lot of people, as the links between Slavs and Iranians are tenuous at best, inexistent at worst.
# There are two mountains in Upper Lusatia whose names are often brought to the table: Czorneboh and Bieleboh, neighboring mountains whose names are obviously inspired by Chernobog and Bielobog. In 1690 Martin Grünewald, deputy headmaster at the grammar school of Bautzen, wrote a historical description of Upper Lusatia, and passing by the mount Czorneboh he mentioned how once the cult of Chernobog was practiced at its top, and how remains of Chernobog’s altars could be found near Bautzen. Nearly a century later, in 1783, Karl Gottlob von Anton (of Leipzig) also wrote of the Czorneboh as a mountain “named after Chernobog”. A proof that Chernobog existed? Well… no really.
# For you see, the mountain Czorneboh only received this name somewhere in the 18th century – before it went on by other names, such as Praschwiza or Schleifberg, and it is strongly theorized that this new name was chosen PRECISELY because of the popularity of Chernobog and how tales of Chernobog cult were told about it. So the legends came first, the name later, and not the reverse. In fact the mountain officially went by the dual name of “Schleifenberg/Zschernebog” from the 1780s onward – and we will have to wait for the mid-19th century for the mountain to be exclusively called “Czorneboh”. Similarly, the mountain had a strong “devil” reputation – there were numerous tales and legends about the devil appearing or being worshipped on this mountain, folktales mixing pagan rites supposedly held there ; oracles delivered by the devils that haunted the rocks ; or attempts at Christian pilgrimages which were persecuted by the pagans protecting this mountain. But again, these stories arose in the 19th century, in the middle of a romanticism wave that had popularized the reconstructed Slavic religion and boosted Chernobog’s reputation. Finally the numerous names given to specific areas of the mountain (devil’s pulpit, devil’s window…) were also recent inventions – the earliest of them being “devil’s stones”, from the end of the 18th century.
# The topic of the “topological name” debate also arose with other villages supposedly named after Chernobog, such as Chernobozhye in Russia or Chernobozhna in Ukraine.
# Those that defend the “Chernobog did exist but was not a god” theory usually claim that Chernobog was probably some sort of folkloric embodiment of bad luck or misfortune, that Helmold over-interpreted as a pagan deity (for example if someone saw Jack Frost and instead of a folkloric character claimed he was a god British worshipped as a deity of the frost). These theories notably mention how Helmold’s invention might have been a mix of three “ingredients”: first the early Christianization of the Slavs, which left in them a strong dualist and moralist influence shaping their stories and legends ; second, the strong belief of the Slavs in malevolent spirits causing disasters ; third, the fact Slavs had an habit of personifying fate. One explanation for how Chernobog might have come into being points out that his name seems to be the mash-up of two different folkloric evil spirits: the bies (bes), and the czart (chort).
# Many people also point out that maybe Helmold was too literal in the transcriptions of what he heard: while he wrote about a “black god” and a “white god”, “black” and “white” might have been used in an abstract way to describe “good” and “bad” (something proven traditional among Slavic people, where devil and evil spirits are called “black spirits” while benevolent and helpful spirits are called “white spirits”) ; but also the term “god” might not have been “god” at all but rather another way to describe “fate” or “luck” – and so maybe what Helmol heard as “black god” rather was “black fate” or “black luck”, basically a poetic phrasing for “bad luck” – again feeding into the idea that the rite he saw with the bowl wasn’t a worship of gods, but rather a form of superstition.
# And of course, as I said before, there are also those that claim that Chernobog was just the Christians monks and writers having a misunderstanding when the Slavs where just speaking of the Christian devil and hell – not only do they use the strong ties, comparisons and evolution of Chernobog and his “domain” into the devil and demon-haunted hell-gates ; but they also use the arguments that “devils” are described under the name “black spirits” (see above), and how the whole “Chernobog” thing might come from how Christian art of the time and the area depicted the demons of hell as being black of skin.

Chernobog’s popularity also got a big renewal in the 20th century thanks to American media. Disney was one to popularize it through their movie “Fantasia” where during a sequence the Devil holding a Sabbath is called Chernabog – though Disney did not invent this out of nowhere, as said sequence is an animated adaptation of Mussorgsky’s own musical piece, “Night on Bald Mountain” where already Chernobog was reinvented as a devil-leader hosting a witch Sabbath (what Disney did was basically switch the “o” of “Cherno” into an “a”). Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe reused “Zernebock” to turn him into the fictional patron-god of the Saxons ; Marvel Comics also had their own interpretation of Chernobog. And of course how could I forget Neil Gaiman’s novel, “American Gods”, where Chernobog is one of the main “old gods” we follow the lives of, alongside Anansi, Odin, Ostara and others.
Before stopping this post I want to point out something… When I first learned of Chernobog and Bielobog, and for a very long time until quite recently, I heard, read and knew of one strong theory that was basically presented as fact to me (and doing a quick research to refresh my memory, this interpretation is still there). This interpretation of the duo Chernobog and Bielobog claimed that Chernobog and Bielobog existed as “neutral” Slavic deities of nature – Chernobog embodying darkness, night, winter and death, where Biebolog was light, day, summer and life, and the two were locked in an endless rivalry. But when Christianity arrived Chernobog was turned into a devilish god of “evil” bringing misfortune, where Bielobog became a god of all good things, in the moral sense of “good”. I know it is a very strong theory and interpretation that has been going around a lot (and that recent media from Neil Gaiman’s novel to Marvel’s comics have used) but I avoided talking about it in this post because I couldn’t find sources talking about this theory or exposing it. I just did a brief research, so I invite you to go deeper on this subject if you are interested, and maybe find the source of this specific “natural Chernobog” interpretation, as a “dark god” who was turned into an “evil god”.

So, for anyone wondering what is happening with Germany, here's a quick summary.
Yesterday we had to elect a new chancellor since Angela Merkel has been in that position for 16 years.
Now, the German parliament might be different than some other countries. We basically have 6 big parties there but from those 2 or three always form a Koalition. Koalitionen are formed so that a chancellor can be elected since we only vote for a party who chooses someone of them as that person. Since a party never has a big enough majority to elect them, multiple parties go together to make that majority.
However, there were basically only three parties who were likely to form a Koalition like this. One party was the CDU, a Christian conservative party that has basically been in a Koalition for as long as I can remember. They were also the party Angela Merkel is from. To replace her they choose Armin Lachet. Now, he is one of the worst choices they could have done because he a.) failed to fold his ballot correctly so that everyone could see who he has voted for which technically is seen as voting fraud since he might influence others with his choice but we just looked over that. B.) He literally can't form a sentence that makes sense or not contradict himself. There have been multiple talks or interviews where he downright was rude and interrupted others and denied statements that he had mad prior to this year.
Another party was the SPD, a social democratic union who wanted to elect Olaf Scholz. Now, he was involved in a financial scandal but other than that, he also just seemed a bit disrespectful or lacking in manners.
The third one was the Green Party with Annalena Baerbock. This party is mainly focused on climate change, making a green future and making it digital. She has been the best choice out of these three since she had clear ambition and was always able to answer questions.
Now, we have three other main parties who are in our parliament.
We have the AfD which has been questioned many times for being extremely right but they somehow always passed. They are homophobic, racist, anti maskers who basically were formed a few years ago and got popular because a lot of people where unhappy with Merkel during the immigrant crisis and voted this party out of protest.
We also have the FDP which claims to be liberal, yet is the textbook example of rich capitalist who just don't really do anything? Sure, they have never really been in power but they also just make empty promises.
And lastly we have Die Linke which is basically the party that is always seen as extremely left because they talk about topics like Gender etc. Many people don't vote for them as they see them as "too progressive."
Now, we have many other smaller parties but sadly none of them have really been able to reach 5% so they don't get a seat in our parliament. However there's great options here and much more fleshed out ones then the people 6 ones but since the main 6 are so established, especially with elder people, we won't see them change anytime soon.
So, yesterday's results showed that the SPD had the most votes overall, very closely followed by the CDU.
Now, both parties wouldn't have enough votes for a majority so they would need to get 1 or two other parties for a Koalition.
The SPD has made it quiet clear that their ideals are too different from the CDU to form one with them, so that leaves them out of the equation.
The AfD is disliked by every party and all have refused to cooperate with them which also means they aren't an option.
Die Linke sadly didn't reach the 5% mark. However they still got in since you need 3 Direktmandate or 5%. For anyone wondering what a Direktmandat is, this basically means that a Candidate of that party won in a certain region (they got the most votes and would be elected as a representative of that region.) Since they scored so low and barely got in, they also aren't an option which you guessed it only leaves the FDP and the Green party.
Now, before I continue I want to explain a bit more and what I touched upon in the last paragraph. When we have a federal election, you get two votes. The first is directly for a representative of a party from your region and doesn't influence the general vote as much. However this vote can secure certain people of parties a place in the parliament. The second vote is the important one since with that you vote for a party which will then elect the chancellor. So, there will be different vote results because there's two votes.
Going back to the original point, we know now that only 4 parties could form a Koalition. And it needs three of those to form a majority.
The options for that Koalition would be the SPD, the Green Party and the FDP (which is also known as Ampel Koalition which basically means traffic light Koalition since the SPD is red, the Green Party green and the FDP yellow.) This would not be ideal however it would be what the majority of votes represent and would want (this is more left than the last Koalition and would mean that the people who voted based on climate change would hopefully be listened to.) When forming a Koalition it is important to note that certain goals of the parties will be compromised since they all tend to aim for different things which means you should form a Koalition with the parties that least make you compromise your goals. This coalition would mean that Olaf Scholz becomes chancellor which would not be ideal but the Green and SPD would mean that climate politics might actually become serious and they also have more similarities. We would still have the FDP which sucks but at least two other better/good parties.
The second option would be the CDU, the Green Party and the FDP, also known as Jamaica Koalition because the CDU is black. Now, this is what a lot of us don't want because a.) We dislike the CDU and know they won't do shit and b.) We know the FDP also won't do shit. Furthermore this would mean that Armin Lachet becomes chancellor which is bad. Additionally, the Green Party would completely lose credibility since they only gained so many votes because of their climate ideals which would all not be meet should this happen (the CDU doesn't care and the FDP is capitalist, so they wouldn't do some of the major changes the Green Party wants to do.)
For now, we don't know who will be chancellor or which of these options will happen since the FDP and the Green Party want to talk with each other first and then approach the SPD/CDU. Since they are smaller but still know that there decision is the decided, they want to first look which party most likely fits them. However, Christian Lindner, who is the head of the FDP had already said that they think the SPD is too far left which is why a lot of us are worried. (I would also like to point out that that statement is complete bullshit but you probably already got that from my tone. The SPD is left but in reality probably more centre than anything else. The only actual left parties of the big 6 are Die Linke and Die Grünen in my eyes and even the last one is more leaning for me. Might also be because I am very heavily left but yeah.)
We are currently just waiting for the decision and disaster to happen.

G7 Countries, EU Taking Measures to Prevent Crypto Use to Evade Sanctions – Bitcoin News
G7 countries and the European Union are examining ways to stop the use of cryptocurrency by Russia to evade sanctions. “We should take measures to prevent listed persons and institutions from switching to unregulated crypto assets,” said Germany’s minister of finance.
G7 and EU Seek to Prevent Crypto Use to Evade Sanctions
The Group of Seven (G7) nations are reportedly examining ways to stop individuals and companies from using cryptocurrencies to circumvent Western sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The G7 countries comprise Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the U.S.
Finance ministers and central bank governors of the G7 countries held virtual meetings this week together with Ukraine’s Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko. Germany’s minister of finance, Christian Lindner, was quoted by AFP as saying Wednesday:
We should take measures to prevent listed persons and institutions from switching to unregulated crypto assets. We are working towards this in the context of the German presidency of the G7.
“The problem is known and we are working on it,” Lindner said in an interview with Welt TV on Wednesday. He explained that “It’s about maximally isolating Russia at all levels” and having a “maximum ability to sanction,” which he said includes crypto.
This week, the U.S. Treasury Department also said that it is monitoring Russian efforts to use crypto to evade sanctions. “We will continue to look at how the sanctions work and evaluate whether or not there are leakages, and we have the possibility to address them,” said Treasury Secretary Jenet Yellen.
A growing number of countries and organizations are placing sanctions on Russia since its invasion of Ukraine. They include cutting selected Russian banks from the SWIFT messaging system, rendering them isolated from the rest of the world.
The 27 EU countries have imposed four sanctions packages on Moscow, including freezing Bank of Russia’s assets and disconnecting seven Russian banks from the SWIFT financial-messaging system.
The European Union will include cryptocurrency in its sanctions against Russia, French Finance Minister Bruno le Maire confirmed this week after a meeting of EU finance ministers. He told a news conference:
We are taking measures, in particular on cryptocurrencies or crypto assets which should not be used to circumvent the financial sanctions decided upon by the 27 EU countries.
The French finance minister added that the sanctions against Russia have been very effective, stating that it has disorganized the Russian financial system and paralyzed the Bank of Russia’s ability to protect the ruble. The Russian currency fell more than 30% this week.
