Adrienne had tried to be strong, she really had, but as the hot iron met her skin, the resilience had given way to the tears that had fallen down her cheeks. The burns on her arms radiated heat that she could even feel on her face. Her jeans had been burnt through and through the charred fabric you could see the red, blistering marks the iron brand had left. 

But that was almost an hour ago, and the tears had stopped. She was too tired, and too weak. They hadn't given her any water, much less food, but after a while she had fallen asleep. The metal bear trap that was holding her up couldn't stop her from sleeping, even as it pulled at her skin and got tighter as she moved. Adrienne had to set her legs a certain way, but she had fallen asleep.
