in honour of the fact that i am still somewhat (?) into dead poets society despite being hyperfixated on fnaf now, have some headcanons about the dead poets and co reactions to fnaf lore.

i just know meeks and pitts would be fnaf fans - meeks, being a fan since the WEEK the first game came out, while pitts got into it around sister location. they just both have different ideas of the lore - pitts would get it from matpat and meeks would get it from first hand sources and gibi's good idea bad idea - meaning meeks can only recount the lore up until UCN, and pitts can keep going until the latest fnaf game. they both still manage to talk for the same amount of time, somehow

ginny would ALSO be a die-hard fnaf fan (being into the games since fnaf 3 - fnaf 4), but like... seasonally. as in, her hyperfixations usually last 2-6 months, and has her fnaf hyperfixation about 1-3 times a year (literally me). knows the basic storyline of fnaf 1-7 and knows some parts of the games after that, but she needs to routinely check the fnaf lore presentation that she, meeks, and pittsie made together to catch up on the details. still she would be up by the fnaf presentation board with meeks and pitts for moral support and to input information about external references (e.g: things the characters/games were based off of)

they'd try SO hard to explain the lore to the rest of the dead poets, but since they're both telling different stories they're all confused to some degree.

todd would be struggling to keep up with both versions of the lore but he'd absolutely LOVE the premise of the games and beg meeks and pitts to help him get into fnaf and other horror games like it (like batim/batdr). he loves horror movies the most but i think he'd be an avid enjoyer of horror games with insane plot too. he wouldn't be as caught up on the lore as meeksie and pittsie but he'd try his best. i feel like his favourite character would be the puppet because of her very poetic (?)/tragic demise and afterlife.

charlie would have no idea what's going on, despite having heard of fnaf before - no matter how many diagrams and references meeks and pitts include the fnaf lore is just way too convoluted (too many dates/two different versions) for them and none of the information retains in their head (mood). that's not to say they're not having fun though - they love all the animatronics and shit and are extremely supportive of this interest despite not understanding a single thing. their favourite character would probably be some variation of foxy (most likely mangle or funtime foxy)

neil wouldn't get a single thing either and he'd be... mildly disturbed by all the murder and dark themes in the game because i think he wouldn't like horror themes that much (plus its his first time learning about fnaf - he had VERY restricted internet access), but he'd still support meeks and pitts (and, later on, todd) throughout their whole explanations. he still thinks it's interesting and LOVES the tragedy of all the characters, especially character like michael and charlie. i think he'd be able to grasp the concept of remnant pretty easily, but the whole 'sharing parts = technically possesing other animatronics' thing would mess with him a little. his favourite character would be michael just because of how TRAGIC and pathetic the guy is

knox would be like neil in the way that he's a little freaked out by the whole thing but tries (key word: tries) to be supportive. he'd heard of fnaf before but he never imagined it to be this complex/bloody. also you know when people judge horror protagonists for doing something stupid? yeah, he'd 100% do that to characters like michael/henry/gregory and everyone else would be like "it's a FICTIONAL, HORROR, VIDEO GAME for a reason, knox!!" would have a hard time with all the lore, but somehow is able to keep track of all the characters. i think he would like phone dude or phone guy best because. i don't know actually i think he just finds them silly (/pos)

cameron would be... very disturbed and concerned for their friends' mental health, is absolutely horrified when meeks explains, in excruciating detail, the whole scooped michael fiasco (she provides scientific input and talk about how it would FEEL for michael in that moment). he wouldn't outright tell anyone that he thinks the whole game is terrifying but everyone would know anyway - still, they keep up with the lore surprisingly well for someone who if horrified by the game, they're only out-bested by todd and ginny (as well as meeksie and pittsie, of course). his favourite character would be elizabeth because he sort of relates to her

chris wouldn't be horrified at all by the game and find it mildly interesting even, but would still definitely be confused by the lore (it's a lot of information - even i can't retain it all that well), and it's not really their style of game anyway. they still show support for the people interested in fnaf and attempts to add her own interpretations during the conversation, even if they end up being wrong. accidentally gets hyperfixated on the toy animatronics and continuosly asks ginny to tell her about them so she can be interested in them properly (her favourite is mangle - they affectionately call it their sick, stray puppy)

meeks would be the one that had to explain the lore to mr keating because she wrote about the tragedy of charlie emily in one of her essays and mr keating didn't know who that was and asked about it. she spends the entirety of lunch and her free period to explain the entirety of the fnaf lore to mr keating. mr keating is mildly concerned about meeks' mental health/well-being and considers calling her mom, but sees how eager meeks is talking about the lore and decides against it. finds the concept very interesting after a while and loves the poetic implications of remnant/william's motivations and all of that. he off-handedly makes a fnaf reference in class a couple days later and all the fnaf fans, and the kids who aren't really fans but know of/about the game just quietly stare at him and each other in horror, trying to figure out who snitched to mr keating about fnaf while meeks tries to sink into the floor

some other teacher (like mr mcallister) walks by the dead poets discussing fnaf lore at an especially gruesome part (more specifically, the bite of '83) and is, understandably, very disturbed and concerned, especially at the way they talk about it so casually. at the next teachers' hangout he brings it up and mr keating just laughs and goes "ah yes, the bite of '83. i remember that." meaning he remembers when meeks told him about it. everyone else thinks this means that the bite of '83 actually happened and the dead poets are just?? casually talking/laughing about an event like that?? it's eventually cleared up somehow but yeah. they nearly end up involving parents before they clear it all up

Fears

Fear is normal, it is an emotion that keeps us human.

We as humans, are driven by a lot of different factors— and emotions are one of those.

Fear has kept me up at night. Fear has made me think about countless scenarios and possibilities of what i fear of, get me.

I have instilled a lot of fears within. I've spent too much time on the internet in the past and had explored different surfaces of the internet.

Purple guy, was one of the example of my fear when I was around in the age of ten. The Five Nights at Freddy's (FNaF) is a game and was released in 2014 to be played by millions.

By the time it was released, Markiplier, a favourite youtuber of mine had a series of gameplays about it. The game FNaF was about a night guard (which is played by the player), being sent to an abandoned pizzeria for a nightshift and observing all the scenarios throughout the whole night until 6am, without knowing about the unnatural and horrible things that was about to go down.

Purple guy wasn't introduced until the second game of FNaF was released, whereas the game featured minigames in order to tell a better story within the main plot.

Along the series of this game, he is the main antagonist and serial killer who is directly responsible for the murder of the young children. He had tricked several young children; murdered them; and stuffed the corpses in his personal built animatronic suits(As per the minigames of the game has shown). Though after getting away with the crimes he had committed, he still had his miserable end and died in this very animatronic suit where he had tricked several of his victims:

I was actually impressed by how Scott Cawthon, the creator of this game, had me on edge every night just by imagining purple guy popping out from any corner of my room. I was a kid with a very imaginative mind and I was exposed to the internet without any restrictions, so the tailored story about purple guy alone was very scary for me.

I've also come to realize that maybe I am not an avid fan of real life horror stories, since it scares me and really makes me wary of my surroundings. I take this game as another display of my fear, Fears to Fathom: Norwood Hitchhike. This is another series of games under Fears To Fathom, where the game developers have made each games from the stories submitted by anonymous users. Norwood Hitchhike was about creepy motels, cults, and a stalker which I wouldn't go into detail because this game just gives me the horrifying chills whenever I think about it.

Another favourite youtuber of mine, Jacksepticeye, played two games of FtF and this was the last video I've watched of it since there was no latest release of another game yet.

Throughout the game, it made me uncomfortable because I thought at every corner the player creeps on would have jumpscares. Little did I know that the whole setting and scenarios of the gameplay itself was far more scarier than the anticipation for jumpscares.

The plot in this game episode was about a woman who was an interstate driver and drove along a path where unusual and goosebumping events went down. Unknowingly, if you aren't attentive enough to details, a creepy man will be stalking the player when the character went to a nearby gasoline. Thus, leading to eerie events.

Games like these, applying the most real life acts and situations, does activate a fear in me. For instance, being a night guard at Freddy's Pizzeria from the game FNaF and surviving the whole night without dying by looking out for your power consumption due to possessed animatronics. The Fears to Fathom (FtF) using the most realistic storyline and then incorporating it with such creepiness, fills my head with a lot of nerve-wracking scenarios in real life.

Whenever I think about these scenarios in games and try to reflect it in real life, of course it never fails to kick in the fear bar alive in me. Despite gaining a fear from events like these, I cope through the conditioning of my mind. Conditioning my mind beforehand whereas I encourage myself to think about thoughts that will definitely help me go through along to the end of the day where I am still alive. Having these kind of fears sure are unavoidable, but having a healthy way of coping from it will surely help you stay sane.

Mandela Catalogue and the horror of not knowing 'why'

I'm gonna preface this by saying I impulsively scrawled this down on a whim- this is clumsy and prolly full of grammar mistakes. Sorry about that :/

I honestly have never encountered an analogue horror series that had an impact on me like Mandela Catalogue.

I'm a bit of an avid horror fan, so I am a little desensitised to the tropes, the scares and the stories. I think horror is actually quite a hard genre to write because it's very easy to fall into the formulaic way of doing things and also difficult to create a compelling story with the right amount of twists and turns, plus you're doing all this while also trying to actually scare people. Horror always seeks to make impact and because it's frantically firing rounds here, there and everywhere, it's really hard to hit the target.

This is where the Mandela Catalogue comes in... but I'll take a quick side to talk about another horror franchise so we can get a better idea of what the hell I'm getting at lol.

When the first FNAF game came out, I was enthralled by the horrific idea of dead children haunting animatronic suits, aimlessly wandering about in hopes of getting their revenge on their killer. The subject of the Purple Guy was such a massive topic way back when, that it was hard to avoid the character. Best of all though, it was hard to work out why he did it. Why did he commit such a heinous crime? What was he getting out of it? We didn't even know his name, let alone his personality, his reasoning or his face.

The mystery of 'why' was the biggest piece missing from the puzzle, teasing us at what we didn't know. And to add salt to the wound, what we didn't know outweighed what we did. 'Why were things they way they were? Why did the Purple Guy do what he did?' was what certainly frightened me back then.

An unanswered question is something I'll always find more terrifying. As humans, I think we're constantly wanting to rationalise everything- it's just who we are, we like explaining things away. So when someone or something commits an action out of the norm with no particular explanation, it frightens us.

'Why' is what made FNAF scary. And explaining that 'why' so elaborately has taken some of that horror away. Now, I'm still invested in FNAF and will always be happy to engage with new instalments, works and whatnot, but unfortunately, I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to because things have become so convoluted and entwined. Putting names to faces, family troubles and sci-fi concepts like Remnant, have kind of taken that grounded-horror-feel away from the original franchise. Now, that's not to say FNAF is a shadow of its former self, I just personally am not as into it as I once was, and I think that's because of the lack of mystery. I'm no longer asking 'why'. I'm more of just staring at the screen with knitted eyebrows as I wonder how the hell Fazbear Entertainment hasn't gone under already at this rate of innumerable scandals attributed to its name... maybe that company is just as stubborn as Afton, who knows.

Mandela Catalogue on the other hand, has exploited our fear of the unknown excellently. I am genuinely terrified of the main antagonist of this series, a.k.a Satan (though it is up for debate as to whether he is Satan, an alien or even fallen Gabriel but I'll be going along the lines that he's the devil).

Satan has always been a fascinating concept to me, partly because I've always been intrigued by the idea of something so ungodly even its own creator isn't really sure what to do with him, but also because we don't really know his whole story. Satan is hardly mentioned in the Bible, he's kind of elaborated on in other scriptures but again, not much is known about him other than that he's the bad guy and he's not gonna win in the end because no one can withstand the might of God.

Mandela Catalogue, uses that fear of unequivocal evil compounded with mystery to make Satan terrifying. What I love about the series is we don't see much of Satan and we don't know why the fuck he's doing what he's doing.

All we know us that he's executing his plan and we're bearing the brunt of it. And that's frightening on an existential level.

He knows what's going on, he's doing whatever he's doing, he knows why he's doing it and we don't.

That's how you do horror like this. You don't tell your audience 'why'.

Now, we can try to give some reasoning, using reference to previous depictions of Satan and also the Bible itself to suggest that maybe he's taking revenge on God, or maybe that he wants to be God, or that perhaps he's jealous that Jesus is the new favourite and lashing out at him, but we can't definitively take these reasons as gospel (pardon the pun :P).

That's what's so scary, we don't know why, we can't explain this and because we can't explain this... we can't predict, we can't prepare and we can't understand.

Mandela Catalogue exploits our need for reason to create a villain so terrifying that he hardly ever needs to show up- we can just behold his work and dread.

Nazuna can't say he's an avid gamer, he largely hasn’t played anything since becoming a student and Idol. He doesn’t really have the free time to be spending on video games.

However, he does, every once in a while, indulge himself- usually to catch up and play the games he loved in his childhood. He won't quickly admit it, but he's a fan of Kingdom Hearts. He owns a large amount of the games and tries to get through them on school breaks and holidays… but he's definitely someone who likes to wander and check every little detail.

Now, you playing video games is another thing. He's very happy you have something to relax and take breaks with. He'll happily listen to you rant about any of the games you're interested, doesn’t matter if it's about lore as deep as the FNAF timeline, or as simple as groaning into the table because you just can't beat this one stupid level!

If you've taken a particular interest in a game then he'll sometimes go and look up the game to learn about it! It might just be a quick skim of the plot line, or some short YouTube gameplay videos, but he likes being able to have a conversation about it! If it's important to you then learning about it lets him learn more about you!

If you invite him to come play with you, well he can't just deny you. Cute Co-op games like Minecraft and Stardew Valley are more his speed, but he won't mind more competitive games like Mario Kart! Regardless of if you win or loose he'll always compliment you skills~

How does Nazuna like Horror Games? Well the short answer is he doesn’t. He likes to act big and tough and he'll always SAY he won't get scared… but you can tell by the way he sits still as a rock and barely talks when playing that maybe he's just a little freaked out. He'll stick to just watching you play, if he can.

If you're someone who is rarely frightened and takes risks then he'll be a bit jealous. He'll always end up muttering about it, "Why would you go in there!? It's gonna get you, it's seriously going to get you! Run FASTER!".

If you're someone who gets scared too though, then theres usually a lot of yelling and clinging to each other. You'll always end up in a fit of giggles over being scared by something that probably wasn’t even meant to be scary. (Getting jump scared by a peeper slamming into your base in Subnautica IS scary, okay!!)

My favorite events are definetly Halloween and Archives. Im excited for Overwatch 2 because they say its gonna be more story-based but idk if im totally convinced. I also like the summer event because bathing suit skins lol.

Favorite skins would be Snow Angel Mercy, Beekeeper Mei, Honeydew Mei, and Slasher: 76. I also really adore the Formal Doomfist skin like 👀 he has no business looking that snazzy.

My all time favorite that i don't have is the Pink Mercy skin for breast cancer awareness. i was taking a break from overwatch at that time :(((

Honeydew and Beekeeper!! I forgot about those!! I love those two, I have Beekeeper but I never got the time to get Honeydew so I guess that’ll have to wait 💔 and Doomfist 😏 the kin goes WILD for that skin

Oooo I don’t have any goldens yet mostly because I don’t play comp much <looks at my 1000 bronze SR> but I really wanna get Zen’s or Bap’s, which I think I’ll get next season since I’m at 2k points :)

As for other games, I’ve been playing Minecraft on and off since ~2013 (Bedrock ed.), I play Pokémon Go on the off-chance as well as some GTA5 for PS4, I also have Team Sonic Racing for my PlayStation but I haven’t played it since last year. I also have a Switch but I really only play Splatoon 2 on it :)

Happy Easter-Fools Day everyone! Tumblr just pulled a funny joke on me actually, where I was half way through typing this post up and then the post just... disappeared.

7: Mighty & Ray’s Adventures??? 

So if you’re as avid a Sonic fan as I am, then you have already seen the first episode of Sonic Mania Adventures. It’s so awesome, right?! 

Well, during the SXSW Sonic panel, the idea of Mighty and Ray being in the animated shorts was brought up; and I decided that would be a good excuse to try and draw them in Tyson Hesse’s adorable arty style!

If video games were around in cuphead times, would any of your oc's play them? If so, what's their favorite game?

Absolutely! Paris wouldn’t be an avid player of anything he wouldnt like fps games, and would go for things more like Little Nightmares and Unravel. He wouldn’t take to horror or jumpscares very well but would like aesthetic mysterious games with nice visuals, but as a child he would adore the LOZ series and the Mario games.Morpheus would be very good at fps shooters but would prefer things like DDLC, DDADDS, Stardew Valley, Undertale, etc. He likes a good story with some mystery/replay value and pretty visuals. He’d love the Hitman games too Acryl would like fps shooters much more and would be pretty decent at them. He’d also really like fps style games with stories, like The Evil Within and other similar horror games. He’d be an avid Dead by Daylight multiplayer fan. and fnaf since cringe culture is dead The Apothecary rejects video games entirely and prefers reading or silence, but if forced to play a horror game he’d throw the controller at the first scare and refuse to play anymore because “im not scared its just stupid”. He would despise fnaf for its very trapped and helpless style of movement inhibition. hes easily startled and would be easy prey for jumpscare games.Judgement destroys in battle royale and likes racing games most of allGaia likes fps shooters and gun n’ runs, and the sonic franchise.
