In recent weeks, @puzzled-zebra got me into the anime (and manga) Ancient Magus' Bride.

Before I say any more, I want to say I've only seen the first season's worth so far! So please no spoilers beyond that!

I am far from being an anime enthusiast. I've tried a few different ones in the past, but very few stuck with me, and I've only seen one or two all the way through.

But AMB has gripped me hard... and I think a large part of that is just how many parallels there are to Jamie's story. I don't know if that makes me self-centered, but it's a story that feels familiar yet very different, and just makes me happy in its own right. Come for the parallels, stay for the beautiful art, charming characters, and intriguing story! ^w^

Anyway, I've made a couple artworks centered around AMB, but I'm gonna put them under a read-more for different reasons.

Some warnings for the below: 1; Painting of a semi-realistic canine skull. I feel like it could creep people out, so I wanted to be cautious about it. ^^ 2; SPOILERS for AMB; Season 1, Episode 8 and beyond of the Anime and the equivalent portion of the manga.

I wanted to do a painting, and brain said it would be fun to try Elias' skull head.

It was very fun, but also... a pain... as you can imagine...

Context for this next thing (this is the spoiler part);

The person on the right, who is a black fae dog who's seen here in human form, is becoming the Familiar of Chise, the person on the left. Because it's a Magic Bond™, there was a whole big cinematic to-do around it.

It gave me a silly thought.

I feel like that bit can only be fully appreciated by AMB fans, but I wanted to include it anyway. X3

I've got half a mind to list out all the parallels Zebra and I have noticed, but that'll be a later project. ^^

Been thinking about Chise and Elias a lot lately. Like I wrote over on Twitter:

I love their complicated, messy relationship. About how much they've both grown as individuals and a couple since he bought her, and how humans view them versus how the fae do.

Straightforward couples are great, but the mix of parent/child, master/servant and lover that they carefully navigate is so much more compelling, and gives insight into their characters I don't think you'd necessarily see if they were "normal."

They each have the chance to lead and to follow, to learn where their boundaries are but also how to safely expand them (don't kill her friends, Elias >[ ). They learn to trust and to have faith and to live when neither of them did much of any of that before meeting the other.

What drew me to AMB in the first place was the really messed up nature of their relationship, and it’s the thing that keeps me firmly planted here. Watching them grow and change as people is some of the best storytelling I’ve read in a long time, and I like that it isn’t straightforward or easy or simple. I like that they have missteps, I like that they stumble and lose ground while they navigate a world neither of them know. It makes every step forward that much sweeter.

Each single-sided ornament measures 3" round, and is finished with a resin coating for durability, and has an 1/8" ribbon for hanging. Rear sides are painted in glitter and resin.

These ornament an many other fun items can be found at Chimes and Charms at the Pennsylvania Renaissance faire Yuletide festival, beginning November 24th, and running for 3 consecutive weekends.

They are definitely now the Premier Tier Husbands. The tier higher than my regular husbands.

Elias making my mind not scramble too much. it's like, okay. You're a little like Plo. Plo will approve of you. Plo will probably be interested with you and you would find the same with him.

You two would talk of ancient times (LOL). Ramble about his Baran Do Sage lineage and Elias *might* be comfortable sharing in the magic and sciences, the alchemy and plants because PLO IS ALL THAT.
