Then this is the tournament for you, pal!

Submission Rules

This is for songs with under 3000 views/streams (on whatever platform). (It was going to be <1000, but I wanted to be able to put in OrcaMind songs. Basically just the less popular the better.) Songs with more views will still be considered, though. It depends on how many submissions I get. It’s preferable to be able to listen to the song online somewhere. Since obscurity is key, though, inaccessible songs on physical or lost media still qualify, they just might not get many votes.

Submit songs in this form or the ask box. (The linked form is preferred, to keep it organized, but whatever.)

Submissions will close on… I don’t know, July 4th maybe? Depends on submission quantity.

How this will work

I don’t want to deal with complicated brackets, so the bracket will be single-elimination, and will have a power of 2 (or maybe 3, depending?) number of songs. In determining which songs will fill that number, the following will be considered (in order of priority):

Obscurity

Submitter enthusiasm/provided description and reasoning

How good I think it is

Propaganda is allowed and encouraged.

These folks couldn’t compete in the big leagues, so now we’ll make them compete against each other, but for no reward!

welcome to the kenshi yonezu song tournament!

this is a poll tournament being held entirely for fun :-) hosting will be lax and the rules will be somewhat laidback too so keep in mind!! & note that this isn’t necessarily a tournament to find the best or most well written/produced song of his (though you can absolutely vote based on that) just vote for whichever song you like more! i’d personally encourage more of a gut-feeling than logical/technical aspects, but the criteria upon which you vote is ultimately up to you!

once all songs have been submitted they’ll be seeded according to popularity (as per my attempt at creating a more fair bracket), but i’ll post the bracket and ask for a general consensus/confirmation before we go through with it! ← please be nice to me

must be a song either written by or featuring kenshi yonezu (meaning collaborative songs like uchiage hanabi & nanimono are eligible for submission!)

yes, this includes his vocaloid songs as hachi!

if a song has both a vocaloid ver + self cover, please specify which version you're submitting! and of course, you're welcome to submit both!

multiple submissions are encouraged!

propaganda is optional but highly encouraged!

lyric analysis, music theory, interview quotes, song background + context etc. are more than welcome as supplemental material

Welcome to This Must Be the Tourney, the latest (and this pollmaker’a debut) entry in the field of increasingly specific Tumblr gimmick brackets.

Our competitors, you ask? None other than the different covers of Talking Heads’ 1983 Classic, “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” - Because goddamn, there are a lot of them! Maybe even enough to give someone the crazy idea of making them fight to the death!

Rules are the same single elimination bracket you’re used to, with one minor twist: The Talking Heads’ original 1983 studio and 1986 live versions of the song will not be included in the primary bracket. Instead, they will both be given byes all the way to the semifinals, where the victors of the main bracket will finally get to face off with the versions that started it all!

Participant Conditions are just what you’d expect: If it’s a version of the Talking Heads’ This Must Be The Place, it’s eligible for entry - Although the pollmaker will be doing their level best to make include only one entry per band. Other than that, knock yourselves out - Live performance, studio performance, street performance, shittiest mic you’ve ever heard performance - If they’ve got a place, this must be it.
