retconning Dean into a perfect mini-parent is so gross and flat bc the gas station funyuns and stolen Christmas barbie dolls of it all is what makes it so gutwrenching. like ofc he wasn't churning out home-cooked meals ofc he couldn't shield Sam from loneliness or instability!! he was a CHILD. isolating 2 little kids and asking 1 of them to be the other's sworn protector is psychologically ruinous for BOTH of them. Dean can't save Sam from the abusive situation they're BOTH in no matter how much of himself he carves up. and that. is what makes me wanna claw my eyes out.

s1 dean is bright-eyed and lovely and charming and funny and he just wants to do some good in the world, he just wants to help some people, and he falls a little in love with the girl of the week not in a ‘player’ way but in a ‘he has a huge heart and is a little lonely’ way. he wants to be loved back so bad. he wants someone to ask him to stick around. he wants someone to choose him. and he doesn’t know yet. he doesn’t know yet about the angel that will choose him above all else. he doesn’t know yet about the love that’s coming.

cas is literally dean’s person. like thee one person who knows all of him, the good and the bad and the stuff he’s never told a soul, and Cas is the one person dean can literally tell anything to and know cas will listen and not judge. and vice versa, dean is that person for cas. also, there’s no pressure to talk either. they can sit in companionable silence together for hours. they just love being around each other ouuugghh

you can't even have a decent slowburn these days. characters will get together after 2 seasons. inexcusable. there needs to be a real-life decade at least.

I need to see it happen. I need to see Cas realizing he can have the one thing he's always wanted. I need Dean, fresh from rescuing cas from the empty, to surge up and kiss Cas because god he missed him so much and hes waited so so long to do this but oh god he didn't think this far ahead and cas isnt moving at all so he pulls back all nervous and flustered and looks at him. Cas is staring. His eyes are wide, he's tilting his head slightly as they flicker over dean's face, and then they're getting even wider and hes slowly leaning back in and the side of his mouth is just starting to curl up and his eyes are shining and it might be tears but it doesn't matter because he grabs dean and pulls him close and kisses him with all he has, and only then it sets in that he gets to have this. His love, his life, his happiness. He gets to have all of it.
