eddie and sydney growing up internalizing the expectations of their jobs. both put everyone’s needs beyond their own because that’s what they were taught their whole life. they feel the need to be the problem-solvers, the heroes to everyone.

adrian looking after jill long before she was revealed to be a dragomir. he was probably her only friend at court, since he also feels like an outsider at court. then when jill has the bond, she understands adrian's actions and feelings.

sydney and adrian related to the expectations set by their families and friends. how they are the only one who sees the other's true self underneath the masks they put on for the rest of the world. they hold each other accountable for their mistakes and encourage to do better. they are each other cheerleader's. they grow together.

eddie and jill going through so much at such younger age and are both survivors. how eddie admires jill for her strength even before she became more confident, and how jill feels the same with eddie. how jill knows eddie so much, his devotion to protecting others, that she “freed” him from his duty to be her guardian to save sydney from re-education.

despite all their differences and all the reasons why they shouldn’t work out as family and friends, they proved everyone wrong.

you know how there are many parallels between Chris and Wesker?

hear me out.

An AU where Wesker sort of merges with Chris via Uroboros, a lá Venom, resulting in a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type of thing.

Chris usually is the one in control, but sometimes, Wesker takes over his body. Not only mentally, but also physically (blonde hair, iconic cat eyes, face shape, etc.) with Uroboros and everything.

Chris has to keep Wesker's iconic shades somewhere on his person at all times, just in case if Wesker takes over.

Ooo I like that!!

People getting confused as to where Chris is when Wesker is causing havoc. I can imagine the horror of Wesker taking over Chris in front of someone like Jill or Leon, they can't kill him because that would kill Chris too. I love the idea that Chris would be mentally conversing with Wesker and getting on each other's nerves but Wesker can tell him on things Chris doesn't know about (eg. details of an organisation or person that Chris isn't aware of) and provide strategies. If Chris can't handle something or if he's in danger of dying Wesker will take over and take the heat. They would make a very dangerous combination. It's a nice concept of the two of them literally being intertwined in mind and body and feeling what the other feels, learning and understanding each other more through memories and emotions; like how Eddie and Venom developed their relationship and became inseparable. I remember that psychic abilities is a thing in the RE universe, I don't know the full details of it but it might not be entirely impossible for Chris and Wesker to merge or Wesker putting his consciousness into Chris? 🤔 Physically merging though I'm not sure about, but then look what happened with Birkin; the virus became it's own and for a time it was two bodies in one until Birkin was no more.

In RE5 there's a rare animation that can happen during the volcano fight where Chris is restraining Wesker from behind while Sheva attacks his core/heart, and the Uroboros tentacles were wrapping around Chris as if to assimilate him or merge him with Wesker.

I wonder what would they would have merged...or Chris would get consumed by Uroboros like Wesker was

What hold on what ships absolutely do not make it past high school or at least college

Controversial, but I have very little faith in Rose and Dimitri from Vampire Academy. I really am not a fan of them or their age gap. Same with Jill and Eddie from Bloodlines.

I have zero belief in any couple from The Mortal Instruments, they all moved so fast and esp Clary and Jace are just all chemistry from what I recall. I just imagine they have way too many fights to happily stay together.

I didn't finish Shadow and Bone but no way do Alina and Mal stay together, he was such a whiny baby.

Also I love Lara Jean and Peter from To All The Boys I've Love Before . . . but yeah um, they aren't endgame. But they would remember each other fondly as a good first love.

Literally any of the couples from Jennifer Lynn Barnes books, I'm so sorry but those books reek of compulsory heterosexuality. I have zero belief in her m/f couples and truly believe she needs to write canon lesbians or aroace girls as her next mcs. Toby and Jack from The Squad absolutely don't make it but they are still casual friends and he is very supportive of her coming out journey.

And idk who was endgame in House of Night but no way by the end was there a relationship that was written to last based on the ones I remember reading.

How would you rate resident evil storytelling and it's characters, esp remakes?

Well RE storytelling isn't good so jot that down-

Okay, but seriously, before I get into this let me tell you I have never really been into the zombie narrative as a horror connoisseur the same way I'm not into "white guy kills everyone" horror movies. The white guy kills everyone story is just as easily found when I turn on the news, but zombies?

With zombies the ending is the same. Find the cure or everyone dies eventually. It's the sub genre that relies the most on jump scares with mascot horror recently sliding in alongside it. I couldn't pinpoint the exact decade where the zombie narrative switched to being more character focused in order to keep the genre fresh for people who enjoy it, but we are currently in the aftermath of that decision.

That said, RE storytelling isn't good. It can be fun! I put fun and good on two different graphs when I judge the writing in the piece of media I partake in. For example? The Venom movies are so much fun! They have nothing to do with spiderman which is the symbiote's literal origin story for finding eddie brock later. This is a facet many comic fans find blasphemous, but if you have half a brain or aren't a dick about canon requirements, you'll still get so much enjoyment out of the movies themselves. They stand on their own without spiderman, which I think is a feat well done. Very fun and entertaining.

So yeah, RE storytelling and the characters can be fun. There is a potential for it to be good, but in order for that potential to be reached Capcom has to do something they forever avoid in their writing.

Commit to Ada's mixed feelings about Leon and her job. Commit to Leon's mixed feelings about Ada and LYING about never seeing her to Hunnigan, a woman and co-worker he can actually trust. Commit to showing Jill's unhealthy reliance on Chris just as much as we see Chris' unhealthy reliance on Jill. Show Barry as a family man who's made mistakes with his wife and kids and tries to work things out. WHERE IS HIS WIFE CAPCOM? Show Rebecca reminiscing on her time from RE0, and IDK place a letter she sent out to someone from a strange address who's speech style looks vaguely familiar. Show Sherry's trauma from her constantly healing body and make her have a weird relationship with doctors. Show that Sherry got to interact with Claire at the very least?????? REDFIELD SIBLINGS?!?!?! REDFIELD SIBLINGS SURE DON'T FUCKING ACT LIKE SIBLINGS. WHAT THE FUCK WAS DEATH ISLAND? IM GONNA-(cane drags me off stage)

Edward “Monks” Leeford was an unofficial heir to Leeford fortune, son of Mr. Leeford and his first wife Jill, and older half-brother of Oliver. Born between Mr. Leeford and his wife Jill, he was a firstborn and expected be an heir. However, when he was a child, his parents divorced. Resentful of the divorce and later her ex-husband in love with a woman named Agnes, Edward’s mother would blame them for their misery, thus causing Edward to believe that way and losing sense of feeling empathy. In young adult age, he learned of Agnes having his father’s child and that Mr. Leeford plans to appoint the baby as his heir instead of him. When Agnes was giving birth in Leeford Mansion alone, he snuck in and saw Agnes dying. Instead of calling for help, he neglected her death and stole her baby Oliver before putting him in the underground orphanage he has been stock investing. Edward made sure there were no evidences that Oliver was related to their father. With forged evidences, he told his father Agnes and the baby died. However, Winston, who was Leeford’s butler back then, learns that the baby was not dead and believed Foxworth Family could help finding the baby boy. For years, Edward had public image as “perfectionist” Business tycoon, but a wealthy investor of crime organizations.

At one point, he noticed one child’s record was missing in underground orphanage, discovering it belonged to Oliver. However, he have predicted that the boy would end up either be homeless or recruited into petty criminals’ gang as he recalled in his father’s will that if Oliver commits a crime, he will be disinherited and all inheritance would go to Edward. However, months went by, he recognized Oliver in a party at Foxworth residence, discovering that Foxworth Family has adopted him. Frustrated, Edward believed if this news reached to his father, the old man would desperately get Oliver back. When Oliver goes to school with Jenny, Edward bribed the kids who dislike Oliver manipulated them to lock Oliver in an abandoned storage beating him up and left him to die as they light the place in fire. But, Oliver was saved by Jenny, Minerva and other friends. From time to time before Oliver escaped the orphanage, he has been drugging his father with prescription that could cause Alzheimer to get him defenseless before lighting a fire in Leeford’s vacation house where Mr. Leeford was. When leaving, he didn’t realized Fagin was around to return the wallet to Mr. Leeford, discovering the house in fire and rescued the old man. 

Days later, at the time Oliver was brought back to Fagin’s barge, Fagin and Dodger came to Sykes’ warehouse. Witnessing Fagin’s attempt to get extended time to get money he owed and Dodger fighting against Roscoe and DeSoto, Edward told Sykes to have their account close as he would pay 1/3 of debt in behalf of Fagin with better idea; kidnap Jenny and Oliver for ransom from Foxworth Mansion. Sykes agreed with the plan, but was disturbed when Edward told him to kill Oliver. At the first day Oliver was lured to the warehouse, he met Edward for the first time in life and learned that they are half-brothers, much to shock of Jenny, Sykes Roscoe and DeSoto. However, Edward said he never sees Oliver as a family, but an eyesore as he angrily beaten the poor boy. Feeling guilt, Roscoe attempted to stop him but was held back by DeSoto. Seeing the slight disloyalty, Edward threatened Roscoe by mentioning his wife and daughter’s name, adding with how they could be “worth a billion”, implying he has no qualm in kidnapping the woman and child before selling them off in human-trafficking, igniting Roscoe and DeSoto’s anger yet couldn’t make any resistance. Soon, Edward left to visit Foxworth Residence where he told the family he will return Jenny and Oliver if they agree to give up their business to him. Later, as he watched the Foxworth’s about to sign the contract, it was interrupted by Fagin and the gang, visibly surprised to see Jenny and Oliver alive. When the gang exposed him in front of the family and the press, Edward made last attempt to kill Oliver but was stopped by his father who has been alive and healed. It was also revealed that he has made attempt in fabricating the will that benefits him and plan to blow up the underground orphanage where the children were still living there. The location, papers and other informations of underground orphanage was submitted to police by Edward’s mother, resulting in Edward betrayed by his mother. Even when arrested, Edward continues to throw hateful curses at Oliver.

In the trial, he still shows no remorse as he explained his reason behind the crimes; he claimed that he was giving the world a favor by putting unwanted orphans into good use before they die as it is his way of social service, adding people should be grateful of this “greater good”. He added why there is a “natural order” in crime such as murder; the reason murderers kill the senior citizens, women, teenagers, children, the “gays” are because these victims were “socially weak and useless”. For that, Edward was sentenced 3,000 years with no parole in Rikers Island, the worst prison in New York City. Edward yells people are foolish to believe in “justice” as it does not apply in a nation of capitalism, darwinism and elitism. However, Dodger who was present in the trial said he himself has already confessed his twisted justice and he would spend his entire lifetime and afterlife thinking over what are the wrongs he committed, even if he won’t understand. Edward was taken away to Rikers island, where he would be what he despised to become: the socially weak and useless creature where he would be spending his life becoming all inmates’ sandbag, slave, and their “salty-milk toilet”.

As a long time VA fan , I'm really sad that we won't be able to see how Jill and Eddy's relationship has evolved and how everyone else views them. Are the moroi disapproving and scandalized that a royal moroi is dating a dhampir? (Probably) How does this make Jill feel? What are there future plans?

This might change when I finish my reread, but for me, Jill and Eddie were one couple I always forgot about and maybe this is why. At the beginning of Bloodlines, Eddie is explaining that he can't be with Jill because she's a princess and he's a disgraced dhampir but at the end they're together even though Eddie is assigned to Adrian and Jill is at Court? The whole situation is confusing and to me at least it felt like they were just thrown together to give Eddie an endgame partner. I personally don't really feel like they're endgame but I won't argue with anyone who does. It just feels super rushed like a lot of other aspects of the latter half of the Bloodlines series unfortunately.

In all of my post-canon timelines I don't think I put Eddie and Jill together but honestly I should really consider it just for all those questions. Most of said timelines involve some big scandalous event changing the Moroi world and you're definitely right that the last Dragomir princess being with a dhampir would be outrageous! First she's illegitimate and now this?? (I even made a post a while ago wondering whether Jill would have been accepted as a Dragomir had she been a dhampir). It would be especially interesting for Lissa I think. She's friends with both of them and would want them to be together on a personal level but I think being Queen would give her a more difficult perspective since until she has her own children, Jill can't just throw away her royal status.

Don't know if this counts, but a ship I could have seen happened in the future had Richelle or if Richelle comes back to the VA world. Is a relationship forming between Zoe and Angaline's brother that we met in The Last Sacrifice (Don't remember his name at the moment). Not only would that be amazing character development for Zoe. That storyline would be so interesting, giving how the Alchemist feel about The Keepers. Not only that, but as we know Richelle doesn't bring something up to not have it come back in some way. It would also just be hilarious irony for their dad. The daughter that was suppose to be the family Alchemist, gets together with Marcus Flinch (if Silver Shadows is anything to go by) the rebal Alchemist. The daughter that was the family Alchemist, gets married to a Mori (Adrian) and shuts the Alchemist down. And the daughter that was begging to become an Alchemist, ends up with a dhampir who has no issues with being a human and living in a forest. That would just eat him up inside and I would be here for it. Also just imagine Zoe having to hear how happy her two older sisters are from their mom.

And I'm just like everyone else, I want to get to see more of Jill and Eddie's relationship. I think we are all ready to see a relationship between a Royal Mori and a dhampir and how their world thinks about it. Since Sydney and Adrian live in the human world.

Honestly that would be extremely intriguing to watch play out if that were to ever happen! Because we know Zoe doesn't necessarily hate and recoil away from Moroi and Dhampirs so them growing on her could be a possibility especially after she clearly felt bad about sending Sydney to re-education.

after their breakup in 1985, i don’t think either sam or steph was particularly promiscuous. i think sam was in a few somewhat serious relationships (with eddie, with valerie gaynor, probably with someone else i haven’t invented yet), and i think steph kept revisiting the same few partners in a semi-regular rotation (her freshman roommate jill, katie, maybe some other guy i haven’t invented yet, and sam himself!) without ever opening herself up to a serious relationship again. i think sam kept trying to find what he had with steph in someone who lived closer, but much like steph, all of his partners kept moving away. conversely, i think steph was trying to do away with the kind of bond she had with sam ... always and only to find that she’s not good at casual. sam knows he’s not good at casual (see: the way he absolutely would have gotten together with carrie if not for charlie); steph is in denial about it. they are incredibly messy (together and apart), but i truly think they were soul mates on some level they could never quite reach

Dead Head: The War Room

The third episode of Dead Head takes us into the show's lower level of hell, the lower class one.

Once again the action of the show starts on a day delineated by an event related to the Royal Family, in this case the Queen Mother's birthday, so 4th August.

Like so many people for whom the capital has become too hot, Eddie travels to Birmingham where he hides out in a squat, and spends his time gambling. To his surprise he spots Jill, the girlfriend of his friend Caractacus in a pub. It was at Caractacus's flat in London that Eddie was picked up by MI5 and she was present then. Eddie makes her tell him where Caractacus is, and so they get on the train together to Bristol. There, Eddie begs Caractacus to make him fit for the forthcoming battle, and Eddie hides out among the Black community in Bristol. Eddie, Jill and Caractacus come back to Birmingham where they set out to persuade Stoker, the man who originally gave Eddie the commission to collect the box which turned out to contain a severed head, to tell them what is going on. Eddie obviously wants to find out what is happening and why he is being framed by the establishment for the murder of this young woman, but things don't turn out as he would like.

Every review of this episode I have seen, including the DVD commentary by the writer, Howard Brenton, comments that this episode rather goes off the rails, and indeed it does. Personally I wouldn't want people to be put off this show by that fact: in fact I think the problem of the murder is more present in this episode than it was in part 2 so in that respect it manages to stay more on subject. However since the series is very much thematic I am going to deal with this episode with reference tothe show's recurring theme of Eddie's body.

It doesn't appear in the DVD commentary and I haven't mentioned it before but there is a prominent theme of physicality in this show, and it nearly always revolves around Eddie. There isn't a single apparent meaning to the scenes where he is either in the bath, exercising, having sex, or otherwise naked, though. Far be it from this show to have a simple understandable set of symbols! In this episode the fitness aspect dominates. Roughly half the episode is spent with Caractacus putting Eddie through a fitness regime to get him fit for the war and get him off the booze. In my opinion this is where the show loses its way, because way too much time is spent on this. You could even say that it's unnecessary because other plot devices could have been used to elaborate Eddie's closeness to Caractacus.

I think that although there isn't a simple explanation for the symbol of Eddie's body, the scenes in which this device is used mostly establish relationships with other people: his jealousy that his ex-wife is sleeping with someone else, his preparation for and concentration on the task in hand, his fear of Hugo's apparent homosexuality, his forced submission to being dried by Hugo because he's handcuffed, and so on.

In this episode the purpose of these relationships delineated in physical terms is to lead us to a climax where Eddie (and we) gets a revelation of the true nature of all these relationships.

I know I said that the consensus on this episode seems to be that it loses its way, but I actually like it. As I said my own criticism would be that the fitness regime arc is too long. I am also not sure what is being depicted: we see a number of Black people who are in some sort of community with Caractacus who is clearly their boss, and so I wonder whether we are intended to think that this is some sort of opposition to the powers that be who cover up murders. However you understand this community it is never clearly developed. There is also a problem to my mind with how they get Eddie off the whisky. This episode is intended to depict the lower class circle of hell, and I think that even in the 1980s if Eddie could stretch to a bottle of whiskey to pour down the loo every day the people surrounding him could have found a better use for it than that.

Although I have fixed on one plot aspect and the relationships to which it points, I am absolutely certain that this episode of the show could lend itself to many other interpretations as well. The rich plot of this show is one which I think has also meant it isn't very popular because of the amount of work it requires on the part of the viewer.

Youth Services System Welcomes New Chief Financial Officer

Youth Services System, Inc. (YSS) introduces Chris Sengewalt as their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective December 2023, after their previous CFO resigned. Sengewalt brings 16 years of experience to YSS and an abundance of knowledge in the financial and nonprofit sectors. Sengewalt acquired a bachelor’s degree in accounting through West Virginia University, MBA from Waynesburg University, and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in W.Va. Before joining YSS, Sengewalt spent the majority of his career working for and in support of nonprofit organizations. Sengewalt served as a Controller at Russell Nesbitt Services, another local nonprofit in the area, for three years and a Controller at Bethany College for three years. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the finance offices, monthly reporting, banking and investing relationships and much more. After his time at Bethany College, he continued to work as an outsourced Controller until joining YSS. Sengewalt wanted to continue his career working with nonprofits. He says, “I came to YSS to have an impact in my community. I have always enjoyed working in the nonprofit sector and hope my experience and abilities can propel the agency far into the future.”  He continues, “There is a solid financial foundation laid by the prior CFO, and I want to build upon that so this agency may serve our communities and serve them well into the future.” At YSS, there are over 25 programs offered throughout the agency, which Sengewalt will be overseeing. Jill Eddy, interim CEO at YSS says, “We are fortunate to have Chris join our Youth Services System, Inc. team.  His experience has provided him with necessary knowledge of social services and the challenges that nonprofits face.” Eddy continues, “We look forward to his leadership as we continue to build YSS’s capacity to serve our community.” Sengewalt is a lifelong resident of Wheeling, W.Va. Besides just loving The Melrose Twins, I really like that in TFH Sydney sacrifices herself for Eddie, not for Adrian. It's part of her character not being reduced to her relationship with him.

She loves the whole gang (Jill is the first one she gets attached to), and she loves magic as a way to assert her autonomy and to help others, and it all comes together in a really tragic way at the end of that book.

And as much as it's painful for Eddie, it's great that someone actually put him first, for once. He would have readily died for her before letting them take her. But she would rather face her worst fear than see him hurt or dead.
