Charles loves hugs! Hugs aren’t common in the Rowland household when his dad is around, but when he’s away, mummy spoils Charles with hugs. He quickly learns that hugs are her way of telling him he’s safe and loved. So when he’s in school, he shares them with friends. Edwin and Mr. Kutta are his favourite to hug—aside from mummy. And although Edwin isn’t much for hugs, he melts into Charles’ all the same. 

Edwin is not a hugger. He’s as picky with hugs as he is with food, and he rarely initiates them. The only times he does is when he’s with Charles and/or his dads, but his dads reassure him that that’s fine. While Niko hugs people as freely as Charles, Crystal would rather someone hold her hand in comfort when she’s sad; Edwin’s learned that people show love and support in all sorts of different ways.

Crystal did not grow up with hugs. She was brought up to be a proper, polite young lady, and affection wasn’t something she’s used to. Hugging is new and awkward for her, but Niko and Charles are teaching her how to do them properly. And although Crystal still finds hugging a bit weird, she’s learned to see them as another way to show affection with her friends and her beloved butler. She’s practicing hard so when her aunties come to visit, she can hug them perfectly.

Niko believes her mama, papa, and baba hugged her as soon as she was born. Mama and baba made sure to let her know every day that they both love her very much through hugs, and although Niko knows hugs can mean so many different things, she thinks they’re the simplest and best way to show someone they’re important to you. She would hug the whole world if she could! So if she refuses to hug you… well. That just means she doesn’t like you very much.

Thomas is very prickly with hugs. Because he only knew Papu, Auntie Tess, and his toy Burger for the longest time, he’s only really comfortable hugging them and a few other people, like his best friend Niko and maybe Crystal. And although he’d rather initiate hugs, he’s learned that sometimes he has to wait for friends to tell him it’s okay to hug them. Thomas would really love to hug Edwin, and he’s currently practicing how to ask him for one politely at home with Papu.

Monty is not used to hugs as well. Esther isn’t a very affectionate mother, and as an ambitious actress, she’s often busy with new projects. But once Charles hugs him for the first time, Monty discovers he quite likes them, and begins asking for them in his own way. Thomas is his favourite to hug—he privately thinks the chase and the squeaky noises Thomas makes are absolutely hilarious.

If parenting has taught me anything, it is the importance of getting down on your hands and knees and teaching not just facts, but love and enthusiasm for the natural world.

This is my son Q and me. I have dozens of photos like this by now, even though he is just two years old.

Every chance I get, I will kneel down with him and show him the little creatures all around us. Especially when they are frogs. He loves frogs for some reason. No idea why.

It is important that we all see this together. It is beautiful. It is magnificent. We are here. It is improbable to the highest degree. It is fleeting, but it is everything we get. And we can get so, so much of it. If we just get our faces into it and really absorb it.

So that's what l'm trying to do here, I guess. Get all of you to join me in the reeds. And I am so happy to have so many of you along for the journey.

I adore the blog and I adore internet archive, but I have trouble searching the archive. It feels a bit daunting to explore more. Do you have any tips and tricks for scouring it? Thanx <3!

hi! yes. i have a few tips.

firstly, if i search using this formula, it will come up with far more specific results than if i just typed in stained glass. the internet archive is quite unpredictable at times (and there's porn on there lol) so be wary. you can also search in a similar vein with the command creator:"[insert creator here]" using either of these tools can narrow down your search incredibly.

you can also sort search results (for specific OR more general search queries) by media type which is incredibly helpful for me, as i primarily post photos on here. this is under the filter settings on the sidebar, really easy to navigate! you can also search by year or a range of years, or the subject tags (clumped by most commonly used within your search results).

one really helpful thing, too, is using google. sometimes i'll search like this:

and tons of results will show up with links similar to or matching your search.

other strategy would be to look through the featured collections:

the met and the cleveland museum have both made their collections public, and there's tons of art/artifacts/objects/etc that are all tagged with the metropolitan museum of art tag & are grouped together if you click under the images tab.

my general strategy for perusing the archive is a mix of all these methods, but also just clicking around. let's say you're on the page for this work:

if you click the date, it will take you to everything that originated on that date, and if you click the indicated tag, it will show you everything tagged 'woodwork' on the archive. then you can filter those searches by media type/year/subject or whatever depending on your initial search.

a Cyborg who grew up in a humble family but had everything ripped away from him, now existing not just for himself but to reenact justice and revenge through the cosmos.

Then theres a Puppet who’s essentially “born” into royalty due to being the creation of a ruler, whose purpose is to maintain order in their land.

boothill had a humble upbring with a family that was forged through compassion and care, yet you had everything. you're sole purpose was to be crafted into royalty to then take your creators place yet no amount of family could be felt. the only thing you two had in common was your lack of humanity.

the ipc had forced his hand into seeking out revenge but it was still ultimately his choice to shed himself of his remaining humanity. you never had a say, you're creator created you for a sole purpose that was dictated from the very minute you became alive. and in that way you could almost be envious that boothill was no more human than you were yet he still had control over his future.

You don’t think Cole realises just how affectionate he is.

A pat on the back, a gentle clasp on the shoulder after a job well done, a noogie if he’s feeling playful. He’s changed a lot over the years, but he’s still the same man you love. He’s carefree, keeping tension off the air with his chatter. He’s close to the rookies, putting up with Hana’s teasing jabs or going through one of Zarya’s ‘easier’ regimens. He trains at the shooting range with Fareeha every Thursday. He tries to help Baptiste with whatever he can, even if he’s more distracting than helpful.

He’s not shy with physical affection—that much is obvious. He’s more careful with his superiors (as he should be, you think bemusedly) but with you?

Total free rein.

He kisses your cheek every morning, greeting you with a good morning, sugar that never fails to elicit a reaction from you. He kisses your forehead every night, holds you close against his chest as his fingers dance across your skin until you both fall asleep. He likes having his arm around your waist, loves letting your hands brush together when you walk side by side.

Soft is the very last word he’d use to describe himself, but you know it for sure: your Cole Cassidy is a total softie. 

If it were any other time, you’d tease him for it, but your love for him consumes your being entirely. You let the innate desire for him to be yours, heart, mind and soul, grow stronger every time he glances your way. You want to be the only one who gets to see him like this—asleep, at peace, at home. He’ll call you a sap if you ever say these things out loud, but the redness at the tips of his ears will betray him. Much like the smile on his face will.

The morning sun shines and peeks through the gap between the curtains as the day begins its course. Cole grumbles something in his sleep, not quite ready to start the day just yet, and languidly pulls himself closer to your body. You can feel his chest against your back, rising and falling with each breath he takes. It falls into a rhythm that lulls you into a state of tranquillity, but as much as you’d like to stay here, there’s a lot of work to catch up with today.

Begrudgingly, you push yourself into a sitting position. The sooner you get it done, the sooner you can rest, right?

“Cass,” you whisper, gently shaking him awake. “Get up.”

He blinks one eye open, his brows furrowed until his gaze lands on you. Relaxing and sinking deeper into the sheets, he wraps his hand around your wrist and pulls you back down. An endearing chuckle rumbles in his chest at the surprised yelp you let out.

“It’s our day off, sweetheart.” Sleep is still evident in his voice as he speaks. He leans forward to press a gentle kiss to the back of your neck. “Work can wait.”

You sigh in mock exasperation, though you don’t make an effort to pry his arm off your waist. “You promised to help out Torbjörn and Baptiste today, remember?”

“No clue what you’re talkin’ about.”

“Cass.”

“Hmm.”

You bite back a smile. “You’re gonna prove Hana right, y’know. About you being a lazy bum.”

“Can’t I just spend the morning in bed with my partner?” His complaint is more playful than it is of genuine upset. With how close you are to him, figuratively and literally, you can just tell that he’s in a good mood. “Come on, sweetheart. Five more minutes.”

And his five more minutes will turn into ten more, fifteen more until someone inevitably comes to look for one of you and rings the buzzer at the door. It’s never five more minutes with him, but as he peppers soft kisses from your neck to the curve of your shoulder, you think you don’t mind spending the entire morning like this.

YOUR PART IN THE QSMP STORY ANIMATION WAS SO GOOD, OH MY GOODNESS. It took me a hot second to realize, but after that it was like, how could I have missed it? It was so obviously your art style, your version of Quackity, and it was so *good*.

It's amazing to see how much better your animation has gotten since the days of Your Obedient Servant and Tubbo and Quackity's 'don't trust anyone, not even me', but it's still so obviously your animation. It's just incredible.

All the kudos to you though. That was such a good MAP, and it was an incredibly pleasant surprise to see a familiar artist in the fray.

Did Charles ever fall into a lake perhaps during a school outing? Did Edwin hug him to keep him warm after that?

Or did Charles get lost after he had a fight with someone and Edwin talked with him to keep him company until they were found?

So far, nothing like that happened to Charles! But sometimes, just like any 4–year-old, Charles gets sad. Once, when Edwin noticed, he wanted to make his bestie feel loved and decided to make Charles a whole book all about Charles!

Charles couldn’t believe ten whole pages of nice things about himself.

Jessie since youre one of the few people I trust with comic book recomandations and a friend of mine would like to read some good captain america, winter soldier and black widow comics I decided to come to you.

i am not the biggest steve/cap fan so i admittedly dont know too much on this one!!! but what i do know:

required reading captain america: red, white and black

i would use this reading order and start with captain america vol 5 which is SUCH a good run for the whole captain america cast. its the start of the winter soldier arc so it begins w steve and progresses to buckycap w sam and nat as his supporting cast

and far be it from me to miss an opportunity to preach the buckynat gospel

here is a black widow reading order that's incredibly thorough, but i've linked where is like.. reasonable to start w the 1999 mini series

some honorable mentions for nat would be name of the rose, the 2016 samnee/waid run, the things they say about her, itsy bitsy spider etc

for bucky, beyond his captain america vol 5 run, he's never really had any outstanding solos imo, hes at his best as a support for nat or sam or as cap in an avengers or invaders book

winter soldier 2012 isnt too bad, the electric ghost storyline at least (issues 15-19)

for serious tho: Yosuke's "cool" for the shit he doesn't try to do. He's not cool when he gets a fuckin' scooter or he trying to act smooth or when he thinks he's being "funny".

he's cool cause he's a loyal friend and cares bout his team and the people around him and manages to pull them together to do shit as a group. He's cool cause he took Teddie when he had nowhere to be in and cool cause he cares about Yu and Nanako and he's cool cause he lets shit roll off his back even though it hurts (and he does this because he's found something more important- friendship)
