it had been quite a day for elyse , and that was an understatement. she took a another big step in her life. she has been a nurse for a while now , mainly in the pediatric unit, but she was no stranger to the others. the hospital she worked at was recently purchased by some billionaire with no experience in medicine , purely for a business opportunity. another way to have his name on a wall. as a result, it didn't take long at all for the hospital to turn to shit. for lack of a better word. for a nurse who usually enjoyed every shift , it was crazy to think to think that was no longer the case. but the reasons were right there with the day to day operations. it was no longer about the patient. instead, it was about how much they could draw out of patients and their families. the crack that had been forming in her split opened. so she quit. she was overworked & exhausted. it was time for an extended break. she didn't know how long or didn't care.

it has been a whole week since she had seen harvey. of course they had texted here or there a few times , but between both of their busy schedules neither had the time. until now that is. she walked in to the tall building pearson specter litt was housed, checking in and being let back to the elevators so she can use one to go to to Harvey's floor.

what happened when she got there was unexpected. when his eyes met her , his lips were on hers within a couple seconds. she forgot about all her troubles for the time being. her hands wrap around his waist and when their lips disconnected, she smiles up at him. speechless. it took her a few heartbeats for her to regain it, just in time to answer his question.

❝ well , can't a girl visit the best closer in the city to see him? ❞ she asked, before biting her lip. ❝ and I have some news. I quit my job at the hospital. I am done. ❞

the truth is , she needed money. something she didn't think about until after she officially turned in her resignation letter and walked out for the final time. she had bills to pay and she was still a single mother living in one of the most expensive cities in the united states. but she had options , something she was very much grateful for. however , that will be on the to do list for when the sun rises again tomorrow. now, she just wanted to enjoy the time with harvey.

as she walked with him to his private office , she lets out a deep audible sigh. she was glad that less people were there at that time. usually the firm was crawling with all types of people ⸺ paralegals , lawyers , and clients. but she had to admit , before she had never taken a interest in law ... until now. the more time she spent at pearson specter litt, the more interested she became in everything.

once the two of them were in the privacy of his office , she tuned to him. ❛ i know , it's crazy to believe but … I think I made the right choice. ❜ she told him before continuing. ❛ well, remember when I told you about how the hospital was just purchased by some billionaire? well , the changes he has made are just terrible. and it quickly became just a quick way to make a buck, or a few thousand of them per patient. now last I checked , a hospital is supposed to heal people , right? I thought so ⸺ anyway , they announced today they will no longer take any health insurance. cash only services , they doubled the prices for every test in the book. I just can't be at a place like that , you know? ❜

maybe rushing up to her in such an excitable fashion was a tad excessive, especially when he was still in the lobby of his workplace, & it was a possibility for any of his colleagues to happen upon his behaviour & spread word about his private life -- the nosy ones in particular . still, after a week of limited contact & a long, gruelling week filled with difficult clients and complex deals, he needed a break. he was only human, after all.

yet, when he meets her eyes again, it's obvious that there's something troubling her. she's happy to see him, sure, but there's an undercurrent of frustration & stress weighing down her frame that has him concerned. she cracks an absent - minded joke, to which he pleasantly smiles at , but he's more curious to know what's been going on with elyse. thankfully, he doesn't have to pry, elyse seems to want to tell him as much as he wants to know.

hearing her words, he's shocked -- she'd worked hard for the post, he'd saw her nerves and excitement first hand when she started working there. to quit all of a sudden ... it was quite unlike her. brows furrow, before he asks, " what happened? are you okay? " he takes a look at his watch -- it's pretty late , most of his colleagues are either taking a dinner break or out of the office by now . he makes a decision, guiding her gently towards the office lifts by the waist . " hey, how about you come up to my office for a break? you can tell me all about what happened there. "
