8 | TRIAL BY FIRE
Pairing: Giyu Tomioka x Fem!Reader
Sympathy for a Demon Masterlist
Y/N'S P.O.V.
Giyu pulls you down the mountain with a steady hand, leading you safely away from the wisteria. Your heart is still racing, the memories of the trial lingering like a shadow in your mind. Not to mention everything after, too. You can't help but feel relief wash over you as you leave the forest behind. You're sure it would have suffocated you if you had stayed any longer.
At the bottom of the mountain, you arrive in a small town that is unfamiliar to you. Its atmosphere is a complete contrast to the vibrant life of the forest, as if the colors have been drained away. Even though it is supposed to be day, it feels like night. The town is gray and quiet, an eerie silence hanging in the air. You look around, uncertain of your surroundings, and turn to Giyu for answers.
"I don't know where we are," he admits, his voice low but steady. "Stay close," he says as he begins to walk over the bridge into the town.
As he walks ahead, you find yourself gazing at his back, a mixture of emotions swirling within you. He's willing to stand by you, to protect you, even now that he's aware of what you are. When he turns around to face you, you quickly look away, your cheeks warming. His question pulls you back to reality. "Are you coming?"
You nod, your heart still fluttering with a combination of nerves and gratitude. "Yes," you answer softly, and you begin to run after him.
Together, side by side, you step into the strangely deserted town. There's an eerie quietness that envelops everything, as if time itself has come to a standstill, and you can't shake the feeling that something isn't quite right in this town.

As you and Giyu walk through the silent town, a sense of unease continues to gnaw at your consciousness. The deserted streets and empty buildings give you a chilling feeling.
Suddenly, a low growl resonates through the air, sending a shiver down your spine. Giyu tenses beside you, his sword at the ready. You exchange a quick glance. Then, the growl grows louder, and from the shadows emerges a demon, its form shifting and contorting with every step.
Giyu's gaze narrows as he takes in the demon's appearance. It's a serpent-like creature, its scales shimmering with an eerie light. The demon's eyes gleam with malevolence, and you can sense the danger it poses.
"You know this guy?" Giyu mutters under his breath, his usual composure tinged with concern.
"No," you gulp. "But I think he's able to manipulate the air around himself."
"I can see him, Y/N, but he's like you. I can't sense his presence," he then whispers to you.
Your heart races as you realize that the two of you are going to have to take on the demon's strong abilities. A knot of worry forms in your chest. You've seen how capable Giyu is in battles, but standing in front of probably one of the strongest opponents you've faced with him so far is unnerving.
The serpent-like demon's head darts forward, its jaw snapping dangerously close to Giyu. He barely manages to dodge in time, but the demon's speed catches him off guard. Its form shifts, leaving both of you disoriented. Giyu's movements become hesitant as he struggles to predict the demon's attacks.
You clench your fists, a mix of fear and determination coursing through you. You have no idea where your sword went- not that you'll need it anymore, but you know that you can't let Giyu do this alone, especially if his abilities are rendered ineffective.
As the demon lunges again, you sprint towards it, using your illusionary techniques to create confusion. You then move with precision, each strike calculated to keep the demon off balance.
While you and Giyu engage in battle against the serpent-like demon, the tension in the air is palpable, but amidst the chaos, your movements become more synchronized. Each strike complements the other's as you work to overcome the demon. However, even in the heat of battle, the two of you can't seem to let go of your arguing.
When the serpent demon's form shifts, Guyu shouts to you, "Watch out, behind you!"
"Behind me? Really?" you reply, a grin tugging at your lips as you sidestep an attack. "Because I totally couldn't have figured that out on my own."
Giyu rolls his eyes, his focus on the demon. "Don't get in my way, Y/N."
"Me? Get in your way?" you scoff, landing a solid strike on the demon's side. "I think you're the one struggling to keep up."
His sword clashes with the demon's scales as he mutters, "I don't need your commentary."
As you continue the battle, your banter continues to mix with the clashes of his sword. The serpent demon's attacks become more erratic, evidence of your joint efforts. Each time Giyu dodges, he shoots you a pointed look, as if to say, "See? I can handle it."
You roll your eyes and respond with an exaggerated shrug, intentionally taking a step back to dodge a sudden lunge from the demon. "Oh, sure, Captain Serious. I'll just stand here and let you have all the fun."
His lips quirk into the tiniest of smiles, hidden beneath his stern exterior. "Just make sure you keep up."
You reply with a short laugh, your attention swiftly returning to the battle. Your rhythm with Giyu has grown remarkably fluid, each of you predicting the other's movements. The serpent demon's tactics become less effective, a clear sign that your teamwork is overpowering its trickery.
Giyu lunges forward, his sword finding its mark on the demon's throat. "Gotcha," he grumbles triumphantly.
You're quick to respond, a playful grin on your face. "Well, well. Looks like you had a few tricks up your sleeve after all."
He rolls his eyes, but you can tell he's struggling to hold back a chuckle. The demon's form wavers as it lets out an agonized roar, the culmination of your combined efforts finally bringing it to its knees.
As the serpent demon disintegrates into ash, you and Giyu stand side by side, chests heaving from exertion. The tension in the air begins to fade away, replaced by a sense of accomplishment and a shared understanding.
Giyu turns to you, a hint of a smile quirking his lips. "You know," he says, "for someone who can't shut up, you're not half bad in a fight."
You mockingly gasp, placing a hand over your heart. "Are you giving me a compliment, Giyu? I'm touched."
His expression shifts into something softer, his gaze meeting yours. "Just don't let it get to your head."
You let out a soft chuckle, the connection between you two more tangible than ever. As the tension eases, you exchange a meaningful glance with Giyu, a silent acknowledgment that despite your contrasts, you can find unity in crucial moments.
Giyu then begins to walk away, his back turned to you as he sheathes his sword.
"Hey, wait up!" you call, jogging to catch up with him. When you reach his side, you then ask the question you haven't been able to get off your mind. "So, uh, what does this mean for us?"
His response is measured like he doesn't quite want you to know what he's thinking. "You can stick around, and we'll see."
Frustration creeps into your voice, "What do you mean 'we'll see'?"
He maintains his mysterious demeanor, but a small smile tugs at his lips, "You'll find out."
Despite the groan that escapes your lips, a smile forms on your face, and you both continue your journey in a quiet, yet happy silence.
